davaoeagle June 5th, 2006, 08:11 PM i'm just amazed by your lies and i guess all of the informed members of this forum is watching on your lies. if i can only move my world just that, i will bring you to the davao trade office and ask them for you what investments made up the target amount they have already attained this early of the year. i will bring you to the office of davao mayor what projects has been made of a billion pesos barrowed from bank. i can't believed i was reading development news reports of davao if i am to believe you.

davaoeagle June 5th, 2006, 08:26 PM FYI...sa davao ko nidako....tiga skyline ko.. igraduate from addu from HS to College... lived outside for a year lang (manila para magreview) been to cdo last week lang 2 DAYS kay nagbisita ko sa barkada nako..its unny how you guys accuse me of not being a davaeno kasi lang i have my complaints about my city
did i say i hated davao? no! i just expressed my feelings na wala masaydo economic activities sa davao....whY would i express that? BECAUSE I LOVE MY CITY AND IM AFRAID NA THE CITY OFFICIALS ARE TOO PASSIVE IN PROMOTING DAVAO CITY!!!! you express your love for davao by saying that everything is rosy, i express mine in a different manner..
Ok Bro, i apologize for what i said- I was definitely out of line there. I give you the benefit of the doubt now re: your claim to be a Davaoeno. But you can't prevent people in this thread especially the hard-core Davaoenos like me to denounce your impairing statements. You started on a wrong foot in this thread and you appeared like a chip from the "davao-bashing blocks" which this thread (read Davao) is not a stranger to.
Just like the old adage, "Look before you leap". If I were you, I'd be more careful next time in venting my take in sensitive issues. You won't go wrong being proactive and sensible in words and actions.
I understand your being edgy now as regards developments in Davao. You don't see much physical activities this time but like what the other forumers are saying Davao is not remiss in this area as more than a billion pesos worth of infrastructures are in the pipeline and waiting for physical movement to start. You might wanna read more to keep yourself fairly abreast on this line.
For me, Davao need not look to its local neighbors to get ahead in the (dev't) game but I'd absolutely love for it to crane its neck over to the western and norhern parts of the globe as they are rather hackneyed to be ahead than us by eons and eons. I may sound cocky here but that is my take on it.
Welcome to this interesting thread!

THE amended motorcycle ordinance or Ordinance 0189 has been finally implemented Monday after a month of suspension.
This after City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte ordered its implementation, Traffic Management Center (TMC) chief Celso Gempesaw said.
Duterte earlier said the ordinance has to be reviewed because of it affects on the livelihood of some Dabawenyos.
Ordinance 0189, which is an amendment of Ordinance 737, requires drivers and riders to wear crash helmets and limits the number of backriders to just one.
It also prohibits the use of a single motorcycle as public conveyance or habal-habal.
"I would call on all motorcycle drivers to follow the ordinance because starting today (Monday), the ordinance will be strongly implemented," Gempesaw said in an interview Monday.
Aside from banning motorcycles to be used as public conveyances and limiting passengers to just one, the ordinance also prohibits motorcycle drivers from carrying children younger than eight years old as passengers.
"You are not banned from using your motorcycles, but if you do intend to have a rider, then make the rider use a helmet as well," he said. "If you want to take your child for a ride, then bring proof that he is really eight years old or older."
Gempesaw said first offenders will be fined P1,000, second time offenders P2,000 and third time offenders P3,000.
Until the fines are not paid, the motorcycles of the erring drivers will be impounded at the TMC, he said.
He added that unregistered motorcycle units will never be retrieved by the owner.
"Even if the motorcycle is not used for habal-habal purposes or the driver has not violated the ordinance, they can never get their motorcycle back. Once unregistered motorcycles are impounded the mayor doesn't want these released ever," Gempesaw added.
There are more or less 14,000 habal-habal operators in Davao City.
davaoeagle June 5th, 2006, 08:52 PM THE upcoming 7th Davao Business Conference will highlight the various investment potentials of the region, the Department of Trade and Industry in Southern Mindanao announced.
This activity is the annual gathering of the different Chambers of Commerce and Industry (CCIs) and other stakeholders throughout the Davao Region.
This year's DBC will be held on June 22 and 23 at the St. Therese Gym, Madang in Mati, Davao Oriental, with the Davao Oriental Eastern Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc. (DOECCII) as the host in partnership with the local government of Mati.
With the theme "Convergence and Collaboration: Davao Region's Key to Business Dynamism," the conference will put emphasis on the cooperation among government and the private sector in developing a favorable business climate in the region.
Prelude to the conference proper will be the opening of the Davao Investment Showcase and Exhibit on June 22. This will be the venue for the launching of the Davao Industry Cluster Development Plan and the business-matching session.
DTI Regional Director for Southern Mindanao Merly M. Cruz said the activity will be an avenue for the region to unveil the opportunities that are available to the eight priority Industry Clusters, namely: banana; mango; seaweeds; coconut; mining; wood; tourism; and information and communications technology (ICT).
"The eight Industry Clusters are the major strengths of the region which we have to harness more. By having strong convergence and collaboration, it's not impossible for us to achieve utmost success in these sectors," she said.

Dinabaw min friend, I will be carefull around you:wink2: Seriously asthma can be a serious condition if it is not cared about properly. That is why I asked about the air in Davao, but when looking at all the pictures in here for months now I can gladly see that there are not so many cars driving or long lines of them or trafic jams, like we experience here in my city. If the pcitures are showing a true picture you do not have alot, alot of traffic??? Am I right or wrong? Also it is hard for you to answer my question about the air, I realize that, but I think you know if your air is very poluted or not as much, if the idustires pour out poison or if there are restrictions about it? I definitly mean no harm about these questions or think we are better or anything like that in my part of the world, we all have our problems, just like to know what are the onse in Davao, since I am coming there soon and I do have an asthmatic condition, farily under controll when properly treated and I use the medication I do have.
Dinabaw the durian fruit ? So what reaction is common then min älskling, do I get a rash, is it hot, hot so I burn myself, do I need to call 911 and be taken to the hospital? You better not let me taste it if you suspect a violent reaction :) I can eat other fuits, love fruits might just go crazy about the durian fruit you never know:)
Nice Tuseday to you Dinabaw. Jag älskar dig alltid!!!!
@Paul Thanx for your nice goodnight greetings!

@ rajah_soliman thanx for your pm advice, I am thankfull for any thougthfull comment! :)
I am a woman and have a woman´s view on bashing and being mean to each other and I wonder is it neccerssary among adults when there can be a sensible discussion instead???
To us all to think about is : ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE (the Beatles)
Goodnight to you ALL!

ei bro sinjin! Thank u so much for Thread 11! It's more than I expected.... :)
ei miss ya all...... :) :) :)
junax June 6th, 2006, 03:22 AM ^^ good morning TJ... long time no post hehe...
oo nga pala, congrats to sinjin for the very informative opening... great effort from a cebuano. a million thanks. :)
tj_brewed June 6th, 2006, 03:27 AM I can't help but notice Gravy_addict's post. I do feel your concerns! regarding big ticket projects?
well lemme point out Riverfront Corporate City first....coz this is my fave project of all....
Trust me bro, Sta Lucia Realty (developer), Dizons (land owners), and Orchard Property Corp. (marketing arm) are not taking this project for granted. You may conclude that this project is a dead meat kc walang current constructions dun or even bahay na tinatayo ang Sta Lucia, however, a number of lots have already been sold to private investors. Its upto these investors to when they would develop their lots. For further info, you may want to visit their office directly at Unit 708 West Tower, Tektite aka Phil Stock Exchange Center, Ortigas Center. Look for Elizabeth Suico Incio - one of the Area Sales Director, thats my mom. :)
In addition, i've remembered na na mention sa previous threads ni konsehal peter lavina na isa sya sa nag approve sa upcoming development in Riverfront. Its a phase-one residential development. Pls take note, that Riverfront is a mix of commercial and residential estate.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
regarding development sa Davao, lemme post the investments for first quarter of 2006
Food processing project of Stargate Enterprise Corporation located at Malagamot, Panacan - P 12.14 Million
Vapor heat treatment plant of Southern Philippines Fresh Fruits Corp. located at Ilang, Tibungco - P 52 Million
Property development - housing subdivision of Makar Properties Development, Inc. involving 179 units located at Baliok, Talomo District - P 275 Million
Property development - housing subdivision "Pag-ibig mega city" of Makar Properties Development, Inc. involving 3,660 units located at Tacunan, Tugbok District - P 1.43 Billion
Davao's 2006 Investment target is 1.7 Billion, well we reached that on the first quarter of the year.
You may refer to konsehal's blog (http://www.funchain.com/~peterlavina&category=Investments) for info. Councilor Peter Lavina is part of the Davao City Investment Incentive Board.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
PTA Greenbelt? this is not a dream na po...nor guni guni...There's already a budget for this and development will start pagkatapos ng BIMP Boy Scouts Jam. jan sa PTA Davao.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
by the way, Councilor Peter Lavina flew to Manila to attend various meetings. isa sa meetings kay ang planned expansion of SM Davao. pls refer to this link (www.funchain.com/~peterlavina)too.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, please take note and appreciate the current air linkages and business ties that Davao achieved. The flight to Palau and Macau will further promote tourism in Davao and Mindanao. The recent sisterhood pact between Nanning China and Davao will improve economic activities. The success of ASEAN Tourism Forum 2006, the current BIMP BoyScout Jamboree, the upcoming 6th World Christian Gathering (the first to be held in Asia) on September, and other conventions will surely promote Davao to the global arena.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
However, i do agree with you.... Davao has to be more aggressive in promoting and attracting more investors in the city... And as average dabawenyos, that's what we (people from ssc) are doing as well... we're doing our part in promoting the city through the net, in our own lil ways..... :)
Welcome to SSC - Davao gravy_addict....and have a great stay! :) :) :)
junax June 6th, 2006, 04:15 AM ^^ in addition...
P200 million heart center - Davao Doctors Hospital...
P123 million plastic packaging for banana...
P500 million low-cost housing in Cabantian...
multi-million 440-meter tibungco fruit wharf...
multi-million American President Lines (APL) newest container yard...
and riverfront? give them time naman, it's barely a year since ground breaking and we're expecting it to be makati na. napadaan ako doon last saturday and heavy equipments are still creating new avenues/road networks. just ignore riverfront for another year, and we'll be surprised. :)

councilor lavina is in ssc din??? thats great, at least may tga govt maaadressan natin ng conerns and whatever man. :)
anyway? SM expanding? great news din
riverfront i think, will only materialize as a residential area with small comml establishments.. that is in its first 10-15 years..cguro it would take longer for it to really boom noh? kay landco and pryce werent successful man
PTA Greenbelt? mag start na? gi kuralan man gud ug semento gahapon pag agi nako...
again guys sorry if i rubbed you all the wrong way.. i didnt mean to make a davao bashing w my statements..rather concerned lang jud ko for my city kay wala jud baya ko balak mubalhin ug lain lugar so theres nothing i want more than progress and vibrancy ( murag redundant na lol) kay after having been to bacolod and cdo last week, and seeing how things were there ( w/ bcd having a new sm tapos nice ilang mga cafe', and cdo with limketkai, new hotels...) maka alarm lang jud na murag stagnant lately atong dakbayan..
pero with the recent announcements diri.. it sems nag hilum hilum lang diay..
i wish there were more investments like industries and stuff that would create more high paying jobs though..kay without it unsaon man nang mga malls, bars ug hotels dba?

WawaY[625] June 6th, 2006, 06:27 AM Brisk economy inspires SM Prime
By Amalia Bandiola-Cabusao Published : 2006-05-24
The company that introduced the word ‘malling’ to the vocabulary of Filipinos broke its own record with the opening of its 25th mall built at a cost of P6.5 billion
In a press conference Saturday, Hans Sy, president of SM Prime Holding Inc. said they have no second thoughts in pouring investment in the retail market as they are confident that the economy will get better with the ballooning Overseas Filipino Workers remittance and the rapidly growing call centers across the country.
Asked what their plans are for SM City Davao, Hans Sy said, “you are in for major surprises,” but he refused to elaborate what innovations the company will introduce here.
“We are a nation of mall-lovers with millions flocking to our air-conditioned malls daily and more on weekends,” he said, adding “we have just opened SM Clark last week and within the year we will be opening two more – SM Supercenter Pasig and SM City Lipa. The SM North Edsa Annex Expansion is also scheduled to open in July 2006.”
The Mall of Asia which is the biggest and most ambitious project to date of blue chip publicly-listed SM Prime Holdings, Inc, opened Sunday, signaling a higher level in the malling concept in this part of the world.
The mall is envisioned to be “the celebration mall” and “a mall for celebrations” in the Philippine and the region. It is billed as the premiere mall of Asia and the Pacific.
Located on a 60-hectare property overlooking Manila Bay, the complex consists of four buildings linked by elevated walkways –Main Mall, the North Parking Building, the South Parking Building, and the Entertainment Center Building.
The Main Mall houses the Food court and large showroom-style retail and dining establishments. The North Parking Building is anchored by Super SM Hypermarket and the South Bulding showcases the SM Department Store. Both parking buildings will have over 5,000 spaces available for private vehicles.
The Entertainment Building will house among others, the country’s first IMAX theater, a special Director’s club screening for exclusive film showings and seven more state-of-the-art cinemas and fine dining restaurants and bars.
The mall’s IMAX is approximately the height of an eight storey building and seats 600 people. It also accommodates the first Olympic-size skating rink in addition to a bowling and billiards of hall and an indoor theater for live performances with a seating capacity of 900.
The Entertainment Center Building offers a spectacular view of the Manila Bay from its row of restaurants and other activities ranging from live performances to fireworks exhibition which is expected to draw both local and international client.
SM City Davao opened in November 2001 and is the 14th mall of SMPH. ABC

BMW Phils. eyes Davao expansion

BMW Philippines Corp. is planning to expand its operations in Davao City by putting a branch in the area, its president said yesterday.
In an interview at the sidelines of the 37th National Marketing Conference, BMW President Joerg Breuer said the Davao branch will bring to seven the total number of dealers BMW has in the Philippines.
BMW's current six outlets are located in Metro Manila, with four outlets; Cebu; and Pampanga.
"We are looking into expanding into areas with potential for sales and service because a dealer needs to be able to get his return on that," Mr. Breuer said.
He declined to give a timeframe for the plan to open the new branch, saying this is something that BMW "does not want to rush."[QQ] "Once we decide and the logo is on, then we have to deliver and we need the right partner, the right infrastructure, the right investment. We don't rush it (the opening)," he said.
Mr. Breuer said that BMW is "doing well" in the country and that the firm is "quite happy" with its performance locally.
He said that one of the drivers of the growth of the firm is the certified pre-owned cars segment, which targets people who want to own a BMW but could not afford brand new models.
He also said that the company is coping with rising oil prices, which could be a deterrent to purchasing vehicles.
junax June 6th, 2006, 07:30 AM @Gravy_addict... you're right about investments that would create jobs, daghan ang davao ana, in fact mao na ang kadaghanan investments karon. if you'll have time browsing old davao threads you'll find those investments para dili na mi mag sige ug re-post dri. if you'll be pessimistic about riverfront, then it would be a large football field in the next few years and davao will remain stagnant and eventually become a dead city. but look on the bright side, riverfront, rancho palos verdes, south pacific, alta monte, villa de mercedez, robinson's highlands mostly residential and mixed-use real estates are already there, kini nga mga investments naga reflect nga ang davao city populace is gearing to have a high quality of living kay sa ubang city wala sila ani kay ang ilang investment didto padulong sa mga malls ug industries. kanus-a man sila mag sugod ug himo ani? after ma establish na ilang mga malls, commercial and industries. o diba nag una ang davao. so don't get threatened nga stagnant ang davao, dili pod ko gusto mahimo nga metro manila ang davao nga nagkabuang buang na ang mga buildings nakalimtan na ang quality of living. about sa ubang city like cdo, gensan and even zamboanga getting its share of boom, don't get threatened, ana man gyud na dapat mag pasalamat ta kay booming ang mindanao.
if you're in another city and you feel like our "davao" is behind na...
do this checklist...
1. are the streets as clean and wide as our streets?
2. can garbage bins (green for bio-degradable, gray for non-degradable) be found on every corner of the streets?
3. can you call 911 for fire, medical and rescue?
4. in the center of the city, do they have a PTA Greenbelt like area? (ayaw lang sa ipicture and finished greenbelt, just the open space for jogging)
5. do they have a shrine hill? "jacks ridge like" place and accomodation in particular.
6. do they have eden nature park, lolengs, malagos garden, philippine eagle center, etc.?
7. do they have mt. apo protecting us from typhoon 365/24/7?
8. will you drink from their tap water just as i would in any davao faucets?
9. how about the traffic?
10. what if you want white sand beaches in 10 minutes?
11. how about the airport? is it as good as ours?
12. are infrastractures like (flyovers, underpasses, overpasses) in place too?
13. how about streetlights from suburbs to downtown?
14. nightlife? are theirs comparable to our Venue, MTS, wheels n more, Garahe, Damosa, Rizal st., Victoria Complex, Torres st. in class and accomodation?
15. malls? can you select your preferred mall just like victoria plaza, g-mall, nccc, sm, gaisano south mall and chimes can offer?
16. do they have hospitals in the category of davao doctor's, davao medical or even brokenshire and san pedro hospital?
17. can you smoke anywhere in public places just to annoy non-smokers around?
18. can you say that our marco polo, grand regal, royal mandaya, apo view and waterfront hotels substandard compared to their hotels?
19. are our 5 universities Ateneo, University of Mindanao, University of Immaculate Conception, University of SouthEastern Phil and UP Mindanao along with 40 plus colleges not at par with theirs?
20. are our business districts like bajada, chinatown, matina, ecoland and downtown area pale in comparison to theirs in terms of business activity?
21. do they have 5 world class 18 hole golf courses to spare?
22. can you find their villages as posh as ours?
23. how about tricyles plying downtown areas? are they contained already?
24. if you want a joyride along the mountains, can they offer an "ulas to buda road" without going out of the city borders?
25. maybe they have something we still don't have, like olympic size stadiums, MOA size malls and skyscrapers, but can you live just the 25 without 1 to 24?
i use this guide everytime i'm in manila, and it surely brings me back to davao the soonest possible time. :)
WawaY[625] June 6th, 2006, 07:36 AM thanks junax...
you just revived my davaono pride... ;)
Animo June 6th, 2006, 08:18 AM I'm not really a big fan of urbanity without properly organizing social infrastractures and I like the community to have a clean, green, and organized environment. The city is still young and I hope future leaders will be able to bring the city and its people into the right path. :)

Nice Tuseday to you Dinabaw. Jag älskar dig alltid!!!!
Still having problem of air pollution but we are striving to have a clean air , maybe our city government is just taking one step at a time, i am just sad for making alot of media mileage on smoking ban than the car emission , i think gorvenrmnet should realize that smoking ban and smoke belching should go hand in hand in its campaign on air pollution , am i right min alskling?
Durian fruit reaction? well if you have high blood pressure better limit consuming durian and the other one well well , i won't devulge in here maybe they will :banned: me! i will just :gossip: you

Dinabaw it is nice that steps are being taken towards a fresher enviornment. I agree with you that it would be good if smoking cigarett ban and belching would go hand in hand. Did you mean ban belching min älskling? That would be very hard to do, but many steps can be taken to alot better less belching city and fresher air.
So durian is dangerous if you have high bloodpressure, well I don´t it is the oposite , low. So I can have it then without trouble :) So you will :gossip: me what happens to me when I have it, ok! AM all ears.:) I hope it is not a rash that makes me red will be red as a stop sign as it is from the sun :D
I think you have längtat mycket efter din FLICKvän min älskling. Jag är en flicka du är en pojke. So I have längtat mycket efter min POJKvän! :wink2:

If Noah was a Filipino...
It is the year 2005 and Noah Jr. lives in the PHILIPPINES. The Lord
speaks
to Noah and says:
"In one year I am going to make it rain and cover the whole Earth with
water
until all is destroyed.
But I want you to save the righteous people and two of every kind of
living
thing on the earth.
Therefore, I am commanding you to build an Ark."
In a flash of lightning, God delivered the specifications for an Ark.
Fearful and trembling, Noah took the plans and agreed to build the Ark.
"Remember," said the Lord, "You must complete the Ark and bring
everything
aboard in one year."
Exactly one year later, a fierce storm cloud covered the earth and all
the
seas of the earth went into tumult.
The Lord saw Noah sitting in his front yard weeping.
"Noah." He shouted, "Where is the Ark?" "Lord please forgive me!"
cried Noah.
"I did my best but there were big problems.
First, I had to get a Mayor's permit for construction and your plans
"did not
comply with the codes".
I had to hire their "engineering firm" and "redraw" the plans. Then I
got
into a fight with Municipal Fire Safety Inspector over whether or not
the Ark
needed a fire sprinkler system and extinguishers.
Then my neighbors objected, claiming I was violating zoning ordinances
by
building the Ark in my front yard, so I had to get a permit from the
municipal planning office. The Municipal Planning office told me to
get a
barangay clearance.
But when I went to the Barangay Captain, he said I should first get a
permit
from the municipal planning office. I got confused.
I had problems getting enough wood for the Ark, because there was a
ban on
cutting trees to protect the Monkey-Eating Eagle. I finally convinced
the
DENR that I needed the wood to save the eagles. However, the DENR
won't let
me catch any eagles.
So, no eagles.
The carpenters formed a union and went out on strike. I had to
negotiate a
settlement with the KMU.
Now I have 16 carpenters on the Ark, but still no eagles.
When I started rounding up the other animals, I got sued by an animal
rights
group. They objected to me only taking two of each kind aboard.
Just when I got the suit dismissed, the DENR again notified me that I
could
not complete the Ark without filing an environmental impact assessment
on your
proposed flood.
They didn't take very kindly to the idea that they had no jurisdiction
over
the conduct of the Creator of the universe.
Then the DPWH demanded a map of the proposed new flood plan. I sent
them a
globe.
Right now, I am trying to resolve a complaint filed with the DOLE that
I am
practicing discrimination by not taking godless, unbelieving people
aboard!
The BIR has seized all my assets, claiming that I'm building the Ark in
preparation to flee the country to avoid paying taxes. I just got a
notice
from the BIR that I owe some kind of user tax and failed to register
the Ark
as a recreational watercraft.
The NBI and ISAFP each wanted a piece of the action alleging that the
Ark
would be used by Garcillano to escape. The PNP on the other hand
insists that
Mr. Arroyo might use the Ark to flee to the USA.
Malacanang sees the opportunity to use the Ark for GMA's Strong
Republic
Nautical Highway presidential campaign sorties.
Upon hearing my building the Ark, Congress did what they always do ---
formed
a fact-finding committee. I'm not worried about that though because
they've
never had anything done anyway.
Finally the Senate got the courts to issue a TRO against further
construction
of the Ark, saying that since God is flooding the earth, it is a
religious
event and therefore unconstitutional.
I really don't think I can finish the Ark for another 10 or 16 years!"
Noah wailed.
The sky began to clear, the sun began to shine and the seas began to
calm. A
rainbow arched across the sky.
Noah looked up hopefully. "You mean you are not going to destroy the
earth,
Lord?"
"No," said the Lord sadly...."Your government is already doing that!!"
sugbuanon June 6th, 2006, 02:51 PM It's okay, just avoid it next time. ;)

Nice one, xzibit31! It is true and sad that one has to go through so much bureaucratic red tape to be able to do something simple. We recently had some land transfers from our parents names to our names and it took over two years.

A Davaowenyo who loves the city so much can easily get concerned about what's happening elsewhere. Of course, giving praises and encouraging reviews of Davao is a sure sign of love for Davao as it encourages tourists to visit our place. It is also a sign of love for Davao to look at constructive criticism to identify areas where positive action can be made.
I agree to the earlier posts, though, that urban development fundamentals are more important than commercial facades, like malls and bars. Large investors are more concerned with urban development fundamentals than these.
Just want to ask though, if this forum is for praises for Davao, I also would like to know if there are forums where positive action can be discussed. Any suggestions? If there aren't any now, anyone interested to put up one?

BIMP-EAGA to boost air links
By SuriaRinaPHA
In recognising that accelerating the air travel sector integration will have a far greater impact on economic integration in the sub-region, the 1st BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers Meeting (TMM) has agreed to work towards innovative and dynamic ways to further liberalise passenger and air cargo services in the sub-region. The meeting was participated by Brunei Darussalam as the host, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.
According to a joint statement issued after the meeting, "Pursuant to the air transport measures of the BIMP-EAGA Roadmap to Development 2006-2010, the BIMP-EAGA TMM agreed to allow multiple designations of airlines as well as respectively designate selected two EAGA entry points by end of 2006 and subsequently all EAGA entry points by 2008 with fifth freedom traffic rights for scheduled passenger services.
"It also encourages the cooperation among BIMP-EAGA airlines by implementing co-terminalisation with own stop-over right and code sharing arrangement. They will work on establishing passenger services between Davao City (Philippines) - Kota Kinabalu (Malaysia) - Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei Darussalam) and between Pontianak (Indonesia) - Kuching (Malaysia) - Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei Darussalam)."
The BIMP-EAGA TMM also recognised the importance of improving land transportation in promoting cross-border movement of goods and people in the sub-region. In this regard, it has agreed to establish an effective, efficient, integrated and harmonised transit transport system in EAGA.
The joint statement said that the BIMP-EAGA TMM acknowledged the need to further enhance inter-connectivity and inter-operability of the EAGA transportation systems with the view to reduce cost of doing business in the sub-region. Towards this, they agreed that BIMP-EAGA should latch on to the Asean transport agreement in order to further advance its sub-regional transport integration measures.
The Asean Transport Ministers also underlined the importance of improving and integrating EAGA transportation systems to promote efficient cross-border flow of goods and people that will increase trade, tourism and investment in the sub-region.
The meeting was chaired by Minister of Communications, Pehin Dato Abu Bakar Apong in his capacity as the Chairman of the 1st BIMP-EAGA Transport Ministers Meeting.
The joint statement said that they encouraged the BIMP-EAGA Development Partners, namely China and Northern Territory of Australia, to actively participate in the development of transport infrastructure and services in BIMP-EAGA. They also invited other Asean Dialogue Partners to join this endeavour.
Apart from that, they also encouraged the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and other international organisations to contribute technical know-how and financial assistance in the transport development of the sub-region.
The next meeting is expected to be held in Davao City in the Philippines.

Archipino June 6th, 2006, 07:06 PM Almost every city, if not all cities, in the world always have areas where things can be improved. Part of improving something is first recognizing that something is not up to par.
As far as I am concerned, I was born and raised in Davao and experienced the events of the early to mid 1980's. And seeing what Davao has become today...All I have for Davao is PRAISE!

davaoeagle June 7th, 2006, 02:48 AM THE Philippines has a new International Master in the person of Oliver Dimakiling, the chess wizard from Sasa, Davao City.
Dimakiling, 26, earned his IM title after scoring six points as an alternate player for the Philippines in the recently concluded 37th World Chess Olympiad in Turin, Italy.
The woodpusher from Davao actually had a shot at a GM norm in his final match, but he lost to Alexander Fier of Brazil in a queens-pawn ending.
Despite the defeat, it was already a huge achievement for Dimakiling being a first-timer in the Olympiad. He got six points in nine matches and was the second best performer among the Filipino players in the event.
The Filipinos wound up 44th place in a field of 146 nations.
Aside from Dimakiling, also with the team are Grandmasters Mark Paragua, Eugene Torre and Rogeio Antonio Jr., National Master Darwin Laylo and 12-year-old prodigy Wesley So.
Engineer Allan Diez, who is in-charge of the grassroots development of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, said they are still awaiting confirmation of Dimakiling's IM title.
Dimakiling, the eldest of five chess-playing siblings, is the second chess player from Davao City to earn an IM title. The first was Marlo Micayabas of Toril.
Dimakilimg, who idolizes former world champion Bobby Fischer, is a silver medalist in the 23rd Southeast Asian Games.
"Oliver is an inspiration to the kids. His (IM) title is only the beginning. He will go a long way," said NCFP regional director James Infiesto of Dimakiling. (CRAM)

Hello SiliconGulf !
I agree w/ you that starting developmnent fundamentals is more important than skyscrapers and big malls , i discussed that in the previous thread and
thread 11 started asking first t how can smoking ban getting all the brohaha in media, but you can see car emissions hazadously pumping in our streets is this a selective campaign to make media mileage? You know and as i know smoke belching is far far worse than a stick of cigarrette, do you agree? If we are serious in our air polution we "take no prisoner" when it comes in this campaign .I will give an example if ever i am a touritst would i believe if i am visiting here and seeing those posted smoking ban then seeing those cars, jeepneys, taxis and busses blowing those hazardous fumes?that Davao is serious campaining in hastening air pollution?
I am planning to have a forum on davao environmental issue and think it fits what your asking about discussions on possitve action .
WawaY[625] June 7th, 2006, 05:16 AM my take on the anti-smoking ordinance
although i'm a smoker.. and a heavy one.. i appreciate the anti smoking ordinance of the city, its a win-win solution for smokers and non-smokers alike (kasi pag nag smoke ka sa designated smoking area, may karapatan ka.. no one will dare to tell you to put off the cig smoke..) wala lang..hehe
bel1river June 7th, 2006, 05:33 AM Hi Dinabaw, There is no argument that smoke belching vehicles are hazardous not only to the environment and it obviously is a factor in overall respiratory health. It would be Utopia if we could have a total smoke Belching ban to go along with the comprehensive smoking ban. But we need to remember that cigarette and/or cigar smoking is a lifestyle choice made by smokers and having to drive a diesel is not, in almost all cases. I submit that if the city cracks down on smoke belching vehicles and totally ban them from our streets that would be economically disastrous. Our streets are filled with older vehicles with older diesel engines and these are the worst offenders. On the other hand there are also more and more newer vehicles on our streets with engines that are capable of burning diesel more efficiently. The city probably has an ordinance that aims to control pollutants emitted by vehicles and they probably should enforce it. If not, maybe Happy LA, our environmental councilor, should draft one. Maybe the ordinance should call for all vehicles manufactured before a certain year should undergo emissions testing every so often and if it fails then the vehicle can not be registered. Also, maybe the police should be given the power to stop a vehicle that is obviously spewing alot of black smoke.
MtApoStandard June 7th, 2006, 05:34 AM I understand Gravy_addict's sentiments.

On looking forward ... I agree with comments here this Forum should not only deal with praising ourselves. More importantly, we should look forward to the future. Our city is beautiful, ok, splendid, whatever. But we need to prepare for the future. We should not just sit on our laurels. We should make our city better ... now and in the future. All ideas should be welcomed, especially based from Davaoeno experiences abroad. Also, based from Davaoenos' own experiences in our city like lack of roads, lack of facilities, etc. Only in listening to our own people will we be able to respond positively and effectively. Thus, the essence of this forum. hooraay! :)

good evening konsehal? can you share developments regarding your manila trip? :)
Konsehal June 7th, 2006, 03:09 PM ineteresting observation!!! :)
In the past cities were largely built on waterways - rivers, estuaries, bays, etc. In the future, cities are not built on geographical considerations, but in the capacity of their people to adopt to changes. Today's change is driven by Globalization 3.0 or the combination of the internet and web, and all the things on the net.
If cities like Davao will not adjust to the tremendous opportunities, the cities of the waterways are, in fact, the things of the past.
Silicon Valley is not in the coast of the Pacific Ocean or Bangalore, India is not in any downstream of any waters from the Himalayas. :)

bel1river June 7th, 2006, 04:56 PM Let's meet 6 p.m. Saturday Kanto Bar MTS :)
I would like to urge Davao Forumers specially those in Davao to attend councilor Pete's proposed meeting at MTS on Saturday. Now that we know for sure that we have an advocate for the issues we all care about and, to boot, someone who can actually make a difference it is important we demonstrate our unity for our cause or causes. It is unfortunate that some key players like TJ and Jason won't be around but then again we do have a small army of avid 'Davaophiles' in the likes of Dave, Don, Gina, xzibit, junax, gravyaddict, and the numerous lurkers who should now emerge on Saturday. Ayaw na magulaw-ulaw, just show up. I'm sure you guys will be joined by local ICT personalities like Rodney Jao and Edwin Maranon. It's just too bad I myself can't be there. But all the same, LET'S GO DAVAO!! BTW, don't forget to take lots of pictures. Calling Dave - the official maniniyot of the Daba-daba thread. Pakidala yung mahal mong camera.

Dinabaw Good Morning min älskling!
I think if Davao citizens with time get more new cars that does not spew out black smoke alot and maybe turn to alternative fuel, use kathalysators, get rid of big cars and go over to smaller, use comunity services more often instead of using the car all the time then alot would change for the better too until the world have invented a whole new car that is better then the onse today. And Dinabaw cigarettes are bad even if they are "sticks" it is life dangerous to smoke no matter what. So good they are gone form the streets. Think about all the people who does not want to smoke and children most of all that inhale alot of this cigarette smoke every day. Lungs need to be as clean as possible to work proper for a whole lifetime!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dinabaw, durian is a very potent fruit if it sends so many people to the hospital. Are you sure you want me to taste it??? Who knows what my reaction will be? You might end up having to take care of me the rest of my trip and that would be hard on you. :)

Hi Paul yea I look forward to my trip to see your so beautiful Davao and meet Dinabaw and other nice people from this Forum, not many weeks left now. I go first my girlfriends come later on, in August. I will stay a loooooooooooooong time hehehehehe.
Dinabaw says that this fruit durian "smells like hell but tastes like heaven", well that will be an experience. Can anyone describe the smell in words, I am just curious..??? In Sweden we have this dish called "surströmming" it smells bad, bad but tastes not as bad as it smells, maybe something close to that.
Paul you are busy, busy? Time for art work comes soon I remember you said. I´ll bet you like that? I like to work with moasaique right now, no I am not an artist but I like to work with little mosaique peaces and create pictures with those, it is relaxing and soothing to do, like meditation.

I really don't find Durian to be that bad in smell. But here are some adjectives that I found online.
Here are some of the ways that the smell of Durian has been described:
* fermented onions
* overripe cheese.
* Rotting fish.
* Unwashed socks.
* A city dump on a hot summers day.
* Historians report that Sir Stamford Raffles, who established Singapore as a British trading post in 1819, held his nose and ran in the other direction if he caught even a whiff of the dreaded fruit.
* Another former British governor likened the stench to carrion in custard.
Biologists believe that the bad smell attacts jungle animals to eat the fruit, thus facilitating seed dispersal.

scandinavian girl June 7th, 2006, 09:31 PM I really don't find Durian to be that bad in smell. But here are some adjectives that I found online.
Here are some of the ways that the smell of Durian has been described:
* fermented onions
* overripe cheese.
* Rotting fish.
* Unwashed socks.

I met Omar Payumo last week. He was busy in Davao preparing for the return of Mt. Everest conqueror Pastor Emata who was his close friend.
Incidentally, on durian, etc. here is a recent article from the Manila Standard Today:
Davao: City of kings
By Deni Rose M. Afinidad
IF the Philippines were to name its luckiest city, it would probably be Davao.
A sprawling metropolis of over a million people in the southeastern part of Mindanao, Davao is one of the largest cities in the world with a land area of 2,443.61 sqm—even larger than Texas City.
Not only that, Mother Nature has pampered it like a king by locating it in a typhoon-free zone along the rim of the Asia-Pacific, allowing it to serve as gateway to both the western and eastern hemispheres of the world.
Because of the city’s fertile soil and abundance in potable water, Davao has also become the habitat of nature’s royalties—the “king of birds” (the Philippine eagle); the “king of fruits” (durian); and the “king of flowers” (waling-waling).
For all these natural gifts, it’s no wonder the city’s people and local government have done so much to harness their blessings.
In 2001, 2003, and 2005, the Asian Institute of Management (AIM) assessed the country’s leading cities based on quality of life, cost of doing business, dynamism of the local economy, infrastructure, linkages and accessibility, and quality of workforce. Davao placed third in 2003, but topped the rankings in 2001 and 2005, making it the Most Competitive Metro City in the Philippines during that period, according to AIM.
This was no surprise for Davao, which was declared as the Most Livable City in the Philippines for consistently making it to the Top 20 for four consecutive years (1996-1999) in Asiaweek’s annual survey of 40 Best Cities in Asia. In the survey of livability, Davao City ranked 18th, toppling Cebu (19th) and Manila (25th). It also assumed the throne of being the Most Peaceful City in East and Southeast Asia since 1998 for an almost zero crime rate (0.8 cases per 10,000 persons—90% of these are petty crimes).
Because of this, imposing curfew was no longer needed in the city, which has the Best Police Office in the Country (1999-2005), said the Philippine National Police. Anyone can walk around town during the wee hours without fear of bumping into a street hooligan.
Similarly, Davao, The Cleanest and Greenest City in the Philippines (1999-2005), is said to be one of the least polluted and most decongested cities in Asia, according to Asiaweek. This made the city save a lot from using traffic lights or hiring traffic enforcers.
Though it is 946 km away (or a one-hour-and-45-minute plane trip) from Manila, no urbanite would feel ostracized in the City of Kings. For one, nightlife is so alive and abundant in the city that bar hopping is as easy as puffing one’s cigarette, though smoking is really banned in the city’s public hubs. But perhaps, one can forget one’s vices if the places to see are Jack’s Ridge—a string of overlooking restaurants and cafés atop a hill or the equivalent of combined Tagaytay and Antipolo’s Cogeo; and the Matina Town Square (MTS)—comparable to Mandaluyong’s Metrowalk.
Like their counterparts, Jack’s Ridge and MTS overflow with beer and delicacies alongside local and foreign entertainment; yet unlike them, MTS and the Ridge possess the staple in every Davaoeño plate—the durian. A coffee shop in the Ridge serves chocolate durian cake, while MTS has the Blugré Café, where durian coffee and the durian frappe are the bestsellers.
The Ridge is also known for being the former fort of the Bagobo tribe and for its underwater origin, as testified by large seashell fossils that were found there. It also offers a telescope, where one can peep into the lofts of the metropolis during daytime and gaze at the stars or the city lights at night.
Besides these, countless first-class hotels and specialized fine-dining restaurants can be explored around the metro. Of note is the Marituna Seafood Market and Restaurant in Pampanga, Davao, where one can feel like dining at the ocean’s bosom as baby white sharks and other marine creatures swim in large aquariums that adorn the restaurant’s walls. Marituna serves clamshell soup, crispy tuna tail, kilawin tuna eggs, shrimp with kangkong, sizzling swordfish belly, and fresh fruit shakes. It also has a market where customers can walk out knowing some bits of trivia about the seafood they bought.
If the tourist is not contented to just see and eat sea creatures at Davao’s restaurants, he or she can visit these animals at their natural habitat—and that would bring him or her to the Island Garden City of Samal—a 15-minute ferry ride from the metropolis where one can commune with nature’s delights via island hopping, scuba diving, snorkeling, banana boat riding, white water rafting, seaside swimming, water tubing, and everything that would fill the tourist’s heart with content. The paradise at the very end of Samal is the world-famous Pearl Farm—known for its world-class beaches, services and facilities.
From under the sea, the traveler can trek uphill to see a triad of nature’s havens—the Eden Nature Park at the slopes of Mt. Talomo; the Crocodile Park in Dencio’s Hill; and the Philippine Eagle Breeding and Conservation Facility in Malagos.
Located 2,630 feet above sea level, the Eden Nature Park is Davao’s Club John Hay as its cold climate, log cabins, and lush pine trees remind one of Baguio.
Peaceful as it may seem, the park activate every visitor’s inner Indiana Jones. Its 40-hectare, jungle-style camping and adventure site invites diverse activities for the whole family. Wedding reception is most memorable if held in the Park’s garden amphitheater, which seems like an ancient Roman ruin with picturesque overlooking view and flowery surroundings. Similarly, honeymooners can maximize privacy at the Parks’ soundproof villas and rooms. Sports aficionados, meanwhile, can play any sport they have in mind (even traditional Filipino games) as the Park has spacious courts suitable for mini-Olympics and for playing piko, patintero, and the like. Lastly, companies and school organizations can hold their seminars and recollections in the Park’s jungle-inspired function rooms, and have their team-building activities in the resort’s trekking, wall climbing, rappelling, and obstacle course areas—complete with shower rooms, bleachers, sound system, and fun gliding cables.
Riding on horseback, or in a Safari-style van, one can stop over to sneak at the rare species being raised at the parks’ gardens and farms. Examples of what can be seen are the yellow pitaheya or dragon fruit from Jamaica; the giant ferns or the signature trees of Mt. Apo; white African tulips; the cassowary bird from Australia—one of the world’s largest and fastest bird; mangosteen and macadamia nut plantations; organic herbs; and gourmet vegetables like zucchini or Italian squash.
Another exhilarating landmark to see is the Crocodile Park in Dencio’s Hill, which breeds around 300 fresh water crocodiles. A skeleton of a 40-year-old crocodile (14 feet in length) greets guests, while dancing parrots and Glide—a two-year-old eagle—welcomes the visitors with a peck. A couple of Burmese pythons, 20-33 feet in length and weighing 200-300 lbs., can be touched and carried (but cannot be taken home) by guests upon request. Baby crocodiles are also allowed to be touched after their mouths were tightly shut—giving tourists an idea of what a Seiko wallet feels minus the buttons and the zippers.
There’s another crocodile in the Philippine Eagle Breeding and Conservation Facility in Malagos, but this one seems out of place. The Conservation Facility, obviously, is where a number of endangered Philippine eagles are protected and bred in captivity. The main star of the facility is the 14-year-old Pag-asa—the center’s first successful hatch. Recently, it was learned that Pag-Asa’s brother, Kabayan, died of electrocution by landing on an electric cable shortly after it was freed in the wild.
Before these Philippine eagles become extinct, or better, before another generation of them wakes up to embrace the world, tourists should come and see Davao especially in August, when Davaoeños celebrate the Kadayawan, or the blossoming of the waling-waling and the harvest time of durian.
Truly, Davao is the country’s fruit basket and king of destinations. If you also want to feel lucky as this city is, you ought to be seen here.

Dinabaw, durian is a very potent fruit if it sends so many people to the hospital. Are you sure you want me to taste it??? Who knows what my reaction will be? You might end up having to take care of me the rest of my trip and that would be hard on you.
Dinabaw, to bad the connection broke when we were having such an interesting talk, hope we can make up for it later today See ya´
:yes:agree min alskling , but not getting new cars as bel1river said thats "close to impossible" i mean we are economically poor. I just want to limit carbon emission by checking vehicles its carborator , "no clean carborator no running" policy.
Don't worry min askling about Durian you have no high blood pressure but maybe the 1 i :gossip: ............:dizzy:

I am aware in your ideas, problem is government has no teeth or having a "blind eye" in regards to smoke belching! Smoke emission test as you know it was implemented way back in early 2000 .They have this propoganda before random testing of car emission in the street with all the tv cameras !but what happen? I know it is near impposible to irradicate smoke belching but my wish is to hastne it,if you really can see how bad the black smoke spewing in the streets here ,it is really bad! i know you can't register you vehicle if you don't pass the car emission test, but believe me my friend i can see black smoke spewing in thestreet of Davao! Mga culprit ani mga" Mcarthur type" jeep plying San Pedro and Ilustre route ! Is their something "fishy" registering in LTO?
bustero June 8th, 2006, 05:07 AM ^^One initiative the city can look at is converting all public vehicles from diesel or gas to LPG. It's a cleaner burn with less particulate (donwside is less power but not that bad). Overall it's cheaper to boot. Many cities like HK and in china transitioned to this over say a 3 year period, with some incentives for the conversion of existing vehicle given by the city (less tax primarily). It's better in the long run. Besides you save money with LPG!
WawaY[625] June 8th, 2006, 05:25 AM i heard there was a risk of the LPG exploding daw?

I was the one who talked about the former PIA pres. , he said the Dusit Hotel is designed by a PIA colleague from Manila and it was due for contruction on the first quarter of 2006 , i talk to him lately adn he said never asked the Architect about the status of the said hotel when they had the annual convention.
scandinavian girl June 8th, 2006, 12:59 PM :yes:agree min alskling , but not getting new cars as bel1river said thats "close to impossible" i mean we are economically poor. I just want to limit carbon emission by checking vehicles its carborator , "no clean carborator no running" policy.
Don't worry min askling about Durian you have no high blood pressure but maybe the 1 i :gossip: ............:dizzy:
Have a nice Thursday Lena !!!!!
Dinabaw min älskling, I realize that buying new cars is not easy to do. I am sorry I did not express myself well, I ment cars that are not so old , used better cars and new cars would be more what I ment. Yea, to check the level of carbomonoxides would be a good step in the right direction, to let all cars go to a yearly checkup and if not ok then :banned:
With you min älskling I will try the durian without any worry what so ever. :)
Jag älskar dig.

scandinavian girl June 8th, 2006, 04:44 PM Hello Paul! :)
I met Omar Payumo last week. He was busy in Davao preparing for the return of Mt. Everest conqueror Pastor Emata who was his close friend.
Incidentally, on durian, etc. here is a recent article from the Manila Standard Today:
Davao: City of kings
Konsehal I really enjoyed to read this article about your so beloved city. Thanks for putting it here so it can be read also by a tourist like me who plan to visit Davo in July. Thanx konsehal!!! :)

Hi "Eastern" Dinabaw.:D..yeap we "westerners" are on the "nightshift" now when Davao goes to sleep. Dinabaw, these feelings about "race", in the west we say it is only "skin-deep" but the real issue here is who are the night owl`s and do they have more fun ?:cheer:

I think that building used to house "Royal Clutch", and a Yamaha store.

until davao thread focuses on urban devt discussions esp architecture & scrapers without YM-type of postings, i think thats the time theyll make it sticky. mga personal, kelangan sa samahan section daw. or maybe davao thread is so fast nga dili maabtan sa mga mods kay paspas mapuno, new thread dayon. busy man gud mga mods karon sa ilang eskwela.

Hi gravy:) I am a dinabawenya :) :) :)
I come form Sweden.
I found this thread through Dinabaw who has been my friend for a long, long time. Since I planed to travle and visit Davao he told me this thread is a good place to visit to see pictures of Davao and also learn more about the people ,culture and Davao. And it has been a good teaching thread for me. :)

Time for the likes of her to GO! Di na bale na Atenista din siya, we should pick councilors and for that matter - a mayor and congresspeople who understand all the nuances of Globalization 3.0, as Councilor Pete laid it out in an earlier post, and work towards a more prosperous Davao. Prosperous not just in economic terms but all around. Jon
bel1river June 8th, 2006, 07:49 PM Gravy, Last word on the brouhaha over the way you entered this forum - 'The grass always seem greener on the other side of the fence.' With that being said, indeed, other Mindanao cities are beginning to catch up but not necessarily on Davao but on their own agenda for economic development. Can you imagine if other Mindanao cities don't get it right? That could mean having a Davao of maybe 5 million people. Kung mahitabo kanang scenario, pildi tang tanan.
WawaY[625] June 8th, 2006, 07:55 PM @bel1river
i guess my point wasnt clear back then..my concern wasnt that other cities are catching up but the govts leniency in promoting davao.i have this perception kasi na nagsalig ang davao coz its established and so its not doing anything to invite tourists/investors etc..
i'd like for hem to prosper too kay
1. alangan asa man ta maglaag2x? sa silingan dba?
2. wala pud daw ko crab mentality uy :)

Hi Lena, No names but I am friends with a Belgian national who runs a company that imports bakery equipment into the Philippines. His business is in Manila but he has chosen to live in Davao. He commuter between Manila and Davao every week. I also know a German national who runs a dive shop in Samal. I know another Belgian who once was a consultant to some agricultural multinational companies and decided to strike out on his own and put up his own consulting firm. Of course, as Paul mentioned, there is Claude and his excellent French restaurant on Rizal St. There are more. Jon

Hi Jon, what's up!
OT here: I met a guy who just arrived from Phil (Iloilo to be exact) and he is a friend of your brother Daniel. Small world indeed.
On the more serious side and this is my first time to say my opinion, at least publicly on the issue on David by the waterfront. It makes me roll my eyes why the heck that thing stirred the hornet's nest, and at the end of it is a person I once admired. I came from the same department with her in ADDU though we varied in concentration but being dtudents of humanities I'm pretty sure she had "arts appreciation" in her curricullum too and I'm at a loss at how so quickly did she plonk the subject to garbage. The sad part is she and her kind were rubbing it as if it is the majority's opinion. I mean come on, we are way, way over "dark age". There's a lot more pressing matters to attend to and the Davaoenos big or small, young and old need them to train their guns to it...more than to petty ones.

Dinabaw, Is that guy still around? I remember about 4 years ago I had an American visitor who is an expatriate of a US company in Hong Kong and he flew into Davao. When he emerged from the baggage claim area, he was swarmed by the cabbies. He had to do a double take and rub his eyes when he saw one of the cabbies was a young, California-surfing dude trying as hard as the locals to get a passenger. He just couldn't believe it!

bustero June 9th, 2006, 05:42 AM ^^ good morning to all!!
i know that some davao taxis are already using lpg patterned to manila taxis coz i happen to ride one...
kung mobuto sa kaiinit sa panahon, patay kang bata ka hehehe. siguro depende sa installation coz korea i guess has 1 million lpg running vehicles.
Yup, Cebu is also using it, no reason why davao can't do it. Much Greener and actually cheaper. SAfety should not be an issue, you must strictly follow the rules though, as you pointed out many counties already use this fuel in millions of their vehicles.

There's nothing to worry about Jon, as regards how we got into the topic of your bor. Eugene works in a call centre where I moonlight as an agent as well. Usual "pinoy converstion" like "tiga saan ka?" when I said "taga Davao" and you know how it goes.. He said he used to "audit" Hino Davao and hang out with friends including Dan Belisario who he said lived in BV in 1992. So there...
**********************************************************
Regarding this lady councilor, For me, I have no qualms as to what idiology you embrace for as long as it doesn't get in the way of your duty as a public servant. Granting that her concern is the statue's impact on people's moral fiber I believe she should have done a survey ( if at all the benefit outweighs the expense of the exercise) first as to what is the majority's opinion about it and not jump the gun as if her discernment constitutes the whole Davaoeno populace.
You're right Jon, she has to shed her "miopic mind" and see what beauty the naked David has brought to this once deplorable place. Yes she might reason all she did was to protect her people from moral debase (she being arnean) but to me there's the more pressing call and that is to povide people jobs, jobs, jobs and jobs. How can we be so human with only the moral values to possess but with an empty stomach and no roof above our head.

Don, the guy who runs the WOW MINDANAO web site lives in Davao with his family. His wife hails from Gensan though.
If you google living in Davao, that will lead you to a website ran by an american who goes by the surname Buck. There you can find a lot of foreigners living in Davao who would fight to defend their beloved new home owing to the good life bestowed on them by living here. There are other bloggers there though ( foreigners living in other cities ) who have issues about Davao but the "naturalized foreign Davaoenos neutralize and even pulverize them albeit through blogs.

City's income increases due to amended tax code
By Barbara Carla R. Quiero
THE amended 2005 Revenue Tax Code has increased the income of the City Economic Enterprise (CEE) for the first quarter of the year, CEE officer-in-charge Francisco Vales said Wednesday.
Vales said the CEE generated an income of P19,017,258.78 for the first quarter of 2006, which reflects a 23.22 percent increase or P3,583,927.39 compared with the same period of last year.
The highest contributors are public markets, followed by slaughterhouses, he added.
If trend continues, Vales said, CEE will achieve P76 million at the end of the year, which is 24.59 percent or P15 million higher than last year.
"Income has increased mainly because of the new rates and fees as brought by the amended revenue code," Vales said.
He added that the performance can also be attributed to the good performance of the employees in the said division.
"We have identified our weakness, as well as our strengths. We have personnel movement and job rotation so that the personnel will be assigned in the work where they are most capable of," Vales said.
Another factor of the increased income, he said, is the constant monitoring of all the city's economic enterprises, especially public markets and slaughterhouses to prevent illegal slaughterhouses from cropping up.
"This will really serve as a challenge to us, to sustain the performance," he said.

RP eyes the fast-growing Lohas market
THE Philippines is looking into Japan's Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (Lohas) market to boost the country's organic and natural product exports.
Food supplements manufacturers Ecarma Health Options, Green Leaf Herbals Inc., Herbcare Corporation, Natural Quality Corporation, and Pascual Laboratories, virgin coconut oil-based food supplements distributors Elixirs Pacific International, Corp., Prosource Int'l. Inc., and Viviendo Philippines Inc., and RCC Amazing Touch Int'l, Inc. met with Nobuo Iwasawa, a Japanese health and wellness expert, to present their respective credentials and manufacturing capabilities to supply the growing Lohas market.
These companies also participated in BIO-Search, a health and wellness show organized by the Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (Citem) in May.
The Lohas movement has dictated Japan's fast growing health conscious public. An integrated market for goods and services that primarily appeals to consumers' environmental and social awareness and responsibility, Lohas includes, among other things, advocacy for Health Lifestyle Attitudes; Renewable Power/energy; Alternative Transportation (Hybrid Vehicles); Energy-Efficient Electronics & Appliances, aside from Natural and Organic Foods and Beverages; Personal Care Products (Skin Care, Hair Care, Cosmetics); Vitamins, Minerals, and Dietary Supplements and Alternative Healthcare.
A recent study revealed that 29 percent of Japan's population is into Lohas. Its primary consumers are those in their 20's to 50's, strongly Lohas-inclined and consists of young families with children, educated women, and those who are in their early retirement age.
They are described as shoppers who "put premium on information, especially about products and services, attuned to trends and brand images, and considerably goes for quality.
Iwasawa, a noted Lohas authority who not only wrote extensive articles advocating such conscientious living, but also a distinguished authority and active speaker at various health and nutrition conferences, disclosed that the Japanese nutrition market alone has reached US$29,000 million or 3,200 billion Japanese yen in sales in 2004. This market includes dietary supplements and functional foods, and is only one of the components of the Lohas movement. (PhilExport

Conquering Everest is more than winning Olympic gold: EmataBy Charles Raymond A. Maxey
ERWIN "Pastor" Emata called his conquest of Mt. Everest, the world's highest peak, a dream-come-true episode in his life, a triumph that is even worthier than winning the Olympic gold.
"To summit Everest is more than (winning) the Olympic gold. Nakataya ang buhay mo dito (Your life is at stake here)," Emata said during a press conference Wednesday night at the Kanto Bar of Matina Town Square.
Emata, a native of Davao, said in scaling Mt. Everest one has to fight against nature where; it's hard to ascend, but even more dangerous to descend.
He said oxygen is only 30 percent at the peak of Everest and that 20 percent of those who summited the mountain failed to return home alive.
Emata became the second Filipino climber to summit Everest when he made it to the peak last May 18. Leo Oracion, a member of the Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition Team (PMEET) was the first to summit Everest, making the historic climb a day earlier.
A third mountaineer, Romeo Garduce, also reached the summit of Everest days later to complete a hat trick for the Filipinos and spark a joyous celebration in the country.
Emata said the first thing he did upon reaching the peak was to pray and thank God.
"I thanked God who created Mt. Everest," he said.
After praying, Emata said he radioed PMEET team leader Art Valdez at the Base Camp to inform him and the rest of his fellow mountaineers of his feat.
Then Emata started taking souvenir pictures. He said he had voluntarily passed up the chance to summit Everest first.
Before making their final push towards the summit, Valdez had a conference with Oracion and Emata to decide who would go first.
Valdez said as part of the team's strategy, he could not allow Emata and Oracion to make their ascent together since bad weather could jeopardize whatever chances they had of conquering the mountain together.
"Pastor made the sacrifice of letting Leo go first," Valdez said, adding that Emata's unselfish act unburdened him (Valdez) of making such a difficult decision.
"I said Leo must go first because I felt he was stronger," Emata said.
The two mountaineers' feat, and that of Garduce, elated Valdez no end.
"We always believe in the Filipino. Give him the opportunity to challenge great odds and he may very well succeed," Valdez said.
And that's what the three intrepid Pinoy mountain climbers did.
davaoeagle June 9th, 2006, 09:00 AM DAVAO CITY , Davao, Philippines -- Bringing the call center firm Cybercity Teleservices to Davao City is just the first step in attracting high-tech businesses in this southern city, the head of a Davao-based information technology group told INQ7.net Thursday.
"Having a call center firm in Davao City is a stepping stone to attracting more investors," said Andre Fournier, president of the Davao Information Technology Council, as he explained the private sector-led efforts to make the city and the rest of Mindanao an "e-services hub."
According to Fournier, two more call center companies are expected to set up operations in Davao City.
"The entry of the Cybercity is just the first step. We eventually want to bring other business process outsourcing firms in this region. But we also want to avoid attracting too many until we're ready to supply the demand," the executive said.
Cybercity, in partnership with 3G Communications, opened on Thursday its 400-seat call center facility in Davao City. Fournier, who happens to be the chief operating officer of 3G Communications, said it took his company three years to convince offshore call center operations to set up shop in the city.
"We hope to change the impression about Davao City. But first we have to deal with the local government which is just waking up to the opportunities of information and communications technology," he said.
For the past four years, the Davao Information Technology Council, an umbrella organization of seven IT organizations, has been pushing initiatives to develop the local IT industry.
During the 13th Mindanao Business Conference, a proposed action agenda for the development of Mindanao was given to President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. One of the items cited initiatives to market this region as one of the country's e-services hub.
Fournier said the proposed action agenda hopes to provide local firms an opportunity to partner with foreign high-tech companies.
"The IT Council will become the first contact point of the IT companies with Davao businesses," he added.
The Davao IT Council is working closely with local schools and IT companies in Davao to develop the human resources required once Davao's IT industry blossoms.
Fournier said the IT Council has helped schools develop training programs and curriculums to arm local students with necessary skills once other business process outsourcing firms decide to invest in Davao City.
"We want to take our time because we don't want to face problems that companies in Cebu and Metro Manila are experiencing, that is, not being able to supply enough skills to the growing demand from call centers and other BPO firms," he said.

Lena, as far as female expats go. There is a place called Mercy Birth Clinic which is staffed by young American and Canadian ladies. I think the facility is operated by a church based in North America. Some of the ladies run blogs where they write down their thoughts, feelings, triumphs and day-to-day activities.

Picobello, Davao City ( Davao City's Best Off-Hotel Pizza House - Authentic Italian Restaurant - All Authentic Ingredients )
On the perch of a popular mall in Davao City, Pico Bello serves perfect baked pies from a well-aged traditional wood-fire brick oven in an ambience reminiscent of Italy. Dine on an enticing Dellortolano laden with zucchini, eggplant, bell pepper mushroom, with tops of mozzarella, and baths of tomato sauce, or a slice of Del Marinaio, a sea food bushel of shrimps, mussels, and squids, paired with olives, tomatoes, and mozzarella, under the soothes of pianos, violins, and a view of the city.

Sec Ebdane pushes for construction of Ulas flyover in Davao
By Rose B. Palacio
Davao City (10 June) -- Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Hermogenes E. Ebdane Jr. said the government is pushing for the construction of the proposed Diosdado Macapagal (Ulas) Flyover in line with the President's agenda of providing social services to the people.
The proposed flyover being pursued by the DPWH would relieve the daily traffic headaches of motorists plying along Davao-Digos, Davao-Bukidnon roads and Davao City diversion road, Secretary Ebdane said.
A team of experts from the DPWH, Project Management Office for Feasibility Studies from Manila were in Davao City from May 29, 2006 to June 7, 2006 to conduct engineering and traffic surveys along Ulas junction for the proposed construction of the flyover, DPWH XI Director Dimas S. Soguilon reported.
Complementing the Manila team were technical people from the DPWH regional office and Davao City District Engineering Office headed by District Engineer Isagani Javier who provided assistance in the field operation and coordination with the local government of Davao city, proponent of the flyover project.
The traffic survey requires data from the intersection capability analysis, such as manual vehicle classification counts; vehicle queue survey; conflicting pedestrian count; number of bus stopping; travel time survey; and origin-destination survey.
At present, the flyover project with an estimated cost of some P504-million has a funding request to the Japanese Government Aid program (GGAP), through the Official Development Assistance (ODA) with the technical assistance of the National Economic Development Authority (NEDA). DPWH is now complying with the requirements.
The multi-million project requires the construction of a four-lane concrete bridge, widening of existing roads, and construction of detour roads for the continuous flow of traffic.
Named after the former Philippine President and father of current national leader President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the Diosdado Macapagal Flyover is a long-time dream project of Davao City whose growth rate is among the country's fastest.
After the traffic survey, the conduct of the Environment Impact Assessment and Resettlement Action Plan will follow. This will be conducted by the Environmental and Social Services of DPWH-central office, Manila. (DPWH-XI/PIA) [top]
