Cruz.. but since Tagum must be passed by first in the town of Carmen for the Tagum to be included.. and for those places to be called a Metropolis, those places I mentioned should be connected and near.. It happened that all are connected.. so, all of them can be part of Metro Davao..

THE local government of Davao City has asked the transportation department to endorse its request to the Japanese government to conduct a feasibility study for a planned mass railway transit in the city.

The city mayor, Rodrigo Duterte, has informed Transportation Assistant Secretary Elmer Soneja that the study may be financed by Japan’s Special Assistance for Project Formation. The mayor hopes the DOTC will endorse its request.

“This is to strongly endorse the request of Mayor Rodrigo Duterte seeking assistance to facilitate the conduct of a feasibility study at no cost to the Philippine government to determine the possibility of developing a railway mass-transportation system for Davao City. We were informed that the feasibility study will be undertaken through the Japanese government’s Special Assistance Project Formation,” Soneja wrote Transportation Secretary Leandro Mendoza.

There was already an initial study conducted by Petra Konsult & Associates Inc. The project, according to the study, will entail a cash requirement of $844.50 million.

The railway system could have 26 stations and could be completed by 2015.

Davao City, with a total land area of about 224,000 hectares, is one of the premier cities of the country and is considered the largest city in the world in terms of land area.

The mayor cited the need for Davao City to have a mass-transit system to cope with the increased population growth, vibrant economic activity, and other urban development pressures.

But before any project can be implemented, the requisite feasibility study is needed to ascertain the project’s viability.

“It is in this light that the department is requesting the government of Japan’s assistance to make this dream of efficient mass-transport system in Davao City a reality,” Soneja added in his letter to the DOTC chief.

This was my post... I was just trying to say that Mati photos should not be included here in this thread because 1st of all, was never part of Metro Davao 2nd, the location.. we have to pass 2 towns di ba? Therefore, we can only post pictures in Mati City thread..

New branches, ATMs machines for ONB in 2009

Davao City (1 November) -- The widest banking network in Mindanao is set to open five new branches and activate at least 30 new ATM machines next year in selected areas of the island.

One Network Bank (ONB) president Alex V. Buenaventura they want to grow with Mindanao and will continue to expand in the next five years.

He said early next year ONB is set to open five more new branches making its total branch network to 75.

The new branches will be established in Gingoog, Misamis Oriental, Sindangan, Zamboanga del Norte, Ozamis City, Surigao City and Dipolog City.


"Out continued opening of new branches within the 35 identified growth areas is in line with our goal of saturating Mindanao, he said.

He said these growth centers are either "unbanked" or "underbanked" and at the rate they are going indicates that the bank is on full swing to achieve its goal.

The bank is also bullish in activating at least 30 ATMs next year which will increase the number of its ATM fleet to more than a hundred machines all over the island, he said. (PIA) [top]

City to renew sisterhood ties with Manado, Bitong

DAVAO City can look forward to a more vibrant relationship with Indonesia in the future after the renewal of the sisterhood agreements between Davao City and the cities of Manado and Bitung in Indonesia.

This was revealed by Councilor Rachel Zozobrado, who said they are presently preparing a better agreement with the two cities in Indonesia to pave the way for more active economic and social ties with the two cities.

"Our sisterhood agreements with these cities have expired and we are trying to formulate a new agreement that will benefit both Davao and the two Indonesian cities," Zozobrado said.

As per the terms of the city's sisterhood agreements with the two Indonesian cities, the agreements are automatically renewed after expiration unless expressly revoked by either of the parties.

In this case, she said both parties are trying to create an agreement that will be a step forward from the original one.

Zozobrado, who chairs the committee on international relations, said Indonesia has expressed its desire to renew the sisterhood agreement with Davao.

However, she added that the Indonesian consul has requested a more detailed document that will feature the benefits that can be derived by Davao, Manado, and Bitung from the sisterhood agreement.

Davao has lots of similarities with the two Indonesia cities aside from their common membership in the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines-East Asean Growth Area or BIMP-Eaga.

Bitung in North Sulawesi is popular for its colorful and healthy marine life while Manado in North Sulawesi is a growing city much like Davao.

naglinya na sila tanan ana nga street...murag illustre st. man siguro gihapon na diha...basta atbang sa People's Park...when i was in davao, always ko sa Penongs kay walay krisis sa bugas...:lol:...and then naglinya ug gatapok na sila diha tanan...:)

daghan man seafood rest...sa davao, etry daw ang Taklobo sa Jacks Ridge, murag seafood ata as what the name imply...nindot diha, dining while seeing the view of davao.

Income generated by local government units (LGUs) in 2007 increased by 7.56 percent and reached P234.82 billion, financial statements from the Commission on Audit (CoA) published in major dailies today showed.

The 2007 gross income of LGUs was P16.51 billion higher than 2006’s P218.30 billion.

Net income of LGUs, however, reached P40.02 billion. The figure is P751.33 million or 1.84 percent lower than last year’s net income of P40.77 billion.

The Local Government Code or Republic Act 7160 has given local government units the power to generate their own source of revenue by levying taxes, fees or charges.

Top earners

Provinces with highest income for 2007 are as follows: Bulacan (P1.807 billion), Negros Occidental ((P1.674 billion), Cebu (P1.657 billion), Cavite (P 1.542 billion), Laguna (P1.487 billion), Pangasinan (P1.482 billion), Batangas (P1.386 billion), Quezon (P 1.36 billion), Rizal (P1.361 billion) and Bukidnon (P1.295 billion).

Cities in the National Capital Region, meanwhile, dominated the list of cities with highest income for 2007. The top 10 cities with the highest income for 2007 include Quezon City (P8.43 billion), Makati (P8.296 billion), Manila (P8.240 billion), Pasig (3.952 billion), Davao (P3.153 billion), Caloocan (P 2.509 billion), Cebu (P2.44 billion), Paranaque (P2.153 billion), Pasay (P2.02 billion), Mandaluyong (P1.79 billion)

Municipalites of provinces belonging to Region 4-A or CALABARZON (Cavite Batangas Laguna Rizal and Quezon) dominated the list of towns with highest gross income. The top 10 municipalities with highest income are Binan, Laguna (P677 million); Cabuyao, Laguna (P593 million); Dasmarinas, Cavite (P535 million); Cainta, Rizal (P490 million); Bacoor, Cavite (P456 million); Gen. Trias, Cavite (P415 million); Rosario, Cavite (P408 million); Imus, Cavite (P370 million); Rodriguez, Rizal (P 310 million) and San Pedro, Laguna (P302 million).

Still IRA-dependent

Despite the increase in income, LGUs are still dependent on their share of the national taxes or the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA). The financial statement of COA showed that 62.43 percent or P 145.69 billion of the LGUs total income represents their share in the IRA.

The IRA is the lifeblood of most LGUs and is used to finance the delivery of basic services. Poor LGUs, especially those who have low income generation capacities, have 80-90 percent IRA dependence.

Big spenders

LGUs also spent more in 2007 than in 2006, the COA financial statement said. “Total expenses incurred by LGUs in fiscal year 2007 totaled P194.79 billion, posting an increase of P17.26 billion or 9.73 percent from P177.53 billion in 2006.”

Negros Occidental, Bulacan, Cebu, Cavite and Quezon were the five the highest spenders among the provinces while Manila, Quezon City, Makati, Davao and Pasig landed on the top five spots of big spenders among the cities.

The municipalities of Cabuyao, Cainta, Binan, Gen. Trias and Bacoor, meanwhile, incurred the highest expenditures among the municipalities.

if you notice, all the cities in the list are categorised as metro cities. it's self-explanatory, because only metro cities can earn so much..

Rody, Gloria together again?

PRESIDENT Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo finally caught up with Mayor Rodrigo Duterte after months of the two seemingly having different schedules, keeping them unable to meet.

After attending the birthday party of House Speaker Prospero Nograles at the Apo View Hotel Thursday night, Arroyo, along with Bebot Marfori, Tonyboy Cojuangco, and a general, went to After Dark for a nightcap. They sought out the mayor at his favorite "After Dark" hangout just before midnight.


Christopher Lawrence Go, the mayor's executive assistant, confirmed this through a text message. Go, however, said it was but a social meeting between the two.

It has been the first time that Duterte and Arroyo saw each other since early 2007.

They did not even meet during the May elections and speculations flew that Duterte was avoiding the President.

Duterte, however, consistently denied this, saying his schedule just do not coincide with the days the President is in Davao City. The mayor was also constantly on leave to recuperate from his recent surgery.

The two drank and sang the night away at the mayor's watering hole.

Arroyo arrived around 9:45 p.m. and stayed until 11:30 p.m. Duterte happened to be at the bar also and welcomed the President, whom he had not seen for quite some time.

In a telephone interview, Duterte said the President's visit at After Dark was unplanned and unannounced.

"Biglaan lang talaga (It was all so sudden). It so happened that I am also here kaya sinamahan ko na siya (so I kept the President company)," Duterte said.

Asked if he will be spending more time with the President, Duterte said he will be sending her off at the Davao International Airport Friday morning.

The meeting between Duterte and Arroyo came as a surprise to many Dabawenyos who thought all the while that the mayor has slowly been distancing himself from the President and allying with the opposition.

Duterte has long been denying this observation though as he consistently expressed his support to President Arroyo until 2010 as he earlier promised her. (BOT/With GLP)

Marco Polo Davao to hold sporting clay competition

THE Marco Polo Davao, on its 10th anniversary, will hold a 1st National IDPA CGD Cup and Sporting Clay Competition on December 6 and 7 at the Gold Cup Outdoor Range/CPR Shooting Range along Diversion Road, Maa, Davao City.

Organizers said it will be a team and individual competition with seven stages, minimum of 130 rounds.

The team event is open to all classified shooters. A team shall be composed of five shooters with at least three novice shooters and two other shooters from other categories.

Participants in the individual event, however, must be International Defensive Pistol Association (Idpa) classified.

Registration opens on Monday and ends on November 30. Fee is P800 inclusive of souvenir shirt, two snacks, one lunch during shoot day and cocktails during closing and awarding rites.

Registration forms are available at the guard post, entrance of Marco Polo-Davao.

so ganyan ka dami ang flights ng PAL to and from davao...14 fllights a day all in all back and forth.:)
