In Davao, you can hardly even see informal settlers living under bridges and flyovers. That is why I seriously doubt it if the pictures posted earlier are those of Davao. :)

TAMA NA LAGI BAH..

EACH CITY HAS ITS BEAUTIFUL SIDE AND ITS UGLY SIDE. THAT IS A GIVEN FACT.

BUT WE ALSO SHOULD AGREE THAT ONE CITY HAS MORE OF A BEAUTIFUL SIDE THAN THE UGLY SIDE AND ONE CITY HAS MORE OF ITS UGLY SIDE THAT ITS BEAUTIFUL SIDE. THAT IS ALSO A GIVEN FACT.

IF YOU HAVE TRAVELED THE WORLD LIKE I HAVE, DIRTY SLUMS ARE A COMMON SITE IN OTHER COUNTRIES. OK? SABOT NA SA TANAN?

sorry sir xzibit, its becoz of @rEancorbz who is doing way beyond the line in destroying CDEO by posting those pics here. It's way too out of the boundaries.

OK? SABOT NA SA TANAN?

agree. what's the point of showing of each city's ugly side? i thought that we are suppose to showcase each city's good side. not dishing out the dirty laundry which we obviously have.

can we just stop all the bickerings? we are not pushing each city's interest kung ing-ana nga we are all pulling each other down. it's everybody's loss, not just davao or cdeo's.

QC, Davao top competitive surveys
By Julie M. Aurelio
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 22:53:00 11/17/2008

MANILA, Philippines—Quezon City has ranked as the country's second most competitive metro city in a recent survey conducted by the Asian Institute of Management's Philippine Cities Competitive Ranking Project.

The city government got a total score of 6.61, clinching second place, while Davao City, which came in first, garnered a score of 7.05.

Meanwhile, Makati City came in third place at 6.58, followed by Manila with 6.43 and Marikina City with 6.37 among the 20 cities surveyed nationwide.

The cities of Malabon, Las Piñas and Caloocan, meanwhile, got 18th, 19th and 20th places, respectively.

The AIM Policy Center conducted the benchmark survey under its City Competitive Program, which seeks to identify the best cities in which to live, work and operate a business.

The survey covered 90 cities, which fell under different categories such as metro, mid-sized and small cities.

The study considered six factors: the cost of doing business, the dynamism of the local economy, the human resources and training, the available infrastructure, the city's responsiveness to business needs and the city's quality of life.

At least 40 respondents in each city were asked to answer questionnaires pertaining to the criteria with 10 being the highest score and 1 as the lowest.

The survey revealed that Quezon City got the highest score in Metro Manila in terms of the local economy's dynamism with 5.53; human resources and training at 7.62; responsiveness to business needs at 6.87; and quality of life at 6.95.

The survey also revealed that in 2006, the city recorded a perfect score of 10 in terms of peace and order or the total crime solution efficiency.

Meanwhile, the AIM recommended that Quezon City improve other factors such as the cost of doing business in the city, which got a score of 6.34, and infrastructure which got 7.07.

In 2007, Quezon City was also chosen as the richest local government unit by the Commission on Audit after it recorded a gross income of P8.437 billion, just ahead of its close competitors such as Makati City, which earned P8.296 billion, and Manila with P8.240 billion.

Earlier, city treasurer Dr Victor Endriga reported a budget surplus of P654,545,363 after collecting a gross tax collection of P9,166,973,363 as of November 11.

Endriga said the bulk of the revenue collection came from business taxes at P3,157,904,037, a rise from 2007’s P2,788,015,492. Real property taxes, meanwhile, reached P1,083,592,040.

"The surplus in tax collection can be attributed to the efficient collection of different revenue generating agencies and departments," the city treasurer explained.

Such revenue generating offices include the Business Permits and Licensing Office, the Assessor's Office, Engineering Department, Liquor Licensing and Regulatory Board, the Department of Public Order and Safety and the Market Development Administration Department.

2GO strengthens VisMin reach for Tapa King

2GO, the total supply chain solutions provider, has been commissioned by popular Filipino food chain Tapa King for the transport of their goods to the VisMin region with the use of 2GO Cold Chain.

Tapa King uses 2GO Cold Chain for the transport of their "wet" or perishable goods such as meat and fish including their famous tapa, liempo and bangus, because these items need to be kept under a certain temperature to maintain quality.

Tapa King explains that one of the greatest challenges in the food industry is the cost-effective transport of their goods without compromising quality and freshness. For Tapa King, 2GO answered all their concerns.

Pablo "Jon" Hicban, Tapa King Operations Manager expounds "The main strength of Tapa King ever since it opened has been the product quality. So the transportation of the products is always an issue, especially when it came to Cebu. There are many ways to transport. But 2GO answered all our questions and challenges."

"2Go has been very accommodating and they have given us good service. Even our drivers gave us feedback that from the moment they arrive at the pier, personnel from 2GO will greet them from the gate and assist them through the entire process. They are very strict in terms of product quality and the items arrive in the destination in very good condition. Basically, 2GO is now a necessity for us" he adds.

Tapa King started in June 1987 as a "hole in the wall" operations in the heart of Makati City’s business district. Immediately Tapa King found its niche - the office workers who came for a quick and affordable meal yet delicious and extremely satisfying. However, as the market trend changed Tapa King embarked on a restructuring of their image that birthed two classifications of their stores: The diner and the traditional. Tapa King currently has 10 company-owned stores and 23 franchises. They currently have branches in Cebu, Pampanga, Tuguegarao and Ilocos. And because of 2GO Cold Chain, they are now open to talks for Davao, Bacolod and Cagayan operations.

Meanwhile, Cold Chain marked 2GO’s entry into the transport of perishable goods. Through the LCL (Less than a Containerload) service, 2GO can transport products that need refrigeration like vegetables, poultry, meat, fruits and ice cream with a low minimum requirement of 0.5 cubic meters (cbm) making it very suitable for small and medium businesses. This is also an optimal solution for big businesses as this improves their inventory efficiency and speed-to-market.

2GO’s enabler for the Cold Chain service is the CRYO company, Reefer Van Specialist Inc. (RVSI). CRYO has been in the business of refrigerated transport since 1982 and has been a trusted partner of the group for years.

Mr. Hicban also mentions "Filipino’s deserve quality. Especially in terms of transportation. 2GO maintains the quality from the source up until it reaches the destination. It is in these types of innovations and service quality that can help our country in the long run."

This Christmas, 2GO is offering a special holiday treat of a free trail shipment of 0.5 cubic meters (CBM) for specific commodities.

I agree, limpyo ang Davao. Ang dapat nalang sulbaron sa city gov't. kay ang baha nalang sa pipila ka portion sa city proper like diha sa may Victoria Plaza, daghan mutirik nga sakyanan diha kung mag ulan. :)

admittedly, problem yan sa ilang areas sa Davao, sabi kasi nila, medyo below sea level ang Davao (correct me if im wrong goys)...pero, karon murag ok2x naman after they fixed the drainage system especially sa Downtown area...unlike kasi before, as recent as 1+ years ago siguro...especially sa Torres and Blvd...pero, pag muulan pud lipay ang malls ug coffee shops during those times... kay didto magtambay while waiting for the flood to subside...mga 1hr pud bago mag subside...

10 Davao resort owners to join promo tour in Europe

THE Department of Tourism (DOT) in Southern Mindanao and private sector representatives will be promoting Davao Region in major cities in Europe next year.

This was bared by DOT Regional Director Sonia Garcia, saying that 10 resorts in the region will be joining the promotional tour in Europe, dubbed as the "Adventure Davao" slated in the first quarter of next year.

What's your take on the Mindanao crisis? Discuss views with other readers

"We really need the partnership of the private sector (to promote tourism potentials of the region)," Garcia told reporters Monday.

She also named at least two resorts/hotels in Davao City that will join the tour. These are the Pearl Farm Resort and the Waterfront Insular Hotel.

Meanwhile, Garcia said international promotion initiatives are essential to further develop the tourism industry of the region.

"DOT Secretary Ace Durano truly believes in international promotion. For the past years, we've been marketing Davao as an adventure destination," she said.

She added that for Mindanao, DOT's yearly average budget for international promotions is about P200 million, but she claimed the budget allotted for Davao Region is not that big. She failed to reveal the figures.

Aside from the 10 private sector representatives who will join the promotional tour, Garcia said local government units (LGUs) in Davao Region are also coming with them.

With the promotional tour, DOT-Southern Mindanao hopes to increase the number of foreign tourists who will visit the region next year.

Garcia estimated the increase in the number of tourists who visited Davao City as of October, this year, to 100,000 visitors.

She said the average spending of a tourist is placed at US$90 dollars a day. (JGRS)

Samal property dev’t on the upturn: official
Published : 2008-11-17

THE real estate development in the Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos) has satisfied the city government of the island as an official said lots of two high-end projects have been “selling like hotcakes.” Igacos City Administrator Cleto Gales Jr. said the property developers Filinvest Land Inc., Landco Pacific Corp. and the Holiday Garden Island Development Corp. have experienced brisk sales for their projects.

Filinvest Land Inc. has partnered with the Hermanos-Fernandez clan for the development of the 50-hectare Kembali Coast project in San Isidro, Kaputian. Landco Pacific Corp., on the other hand, has partnered with the Anflocor Management and Investment Corp. for the development of the 33-hectare Playa Azalea project in Limao. The Holiday Garden Island Development Corp. has also started the development of the seven-hectare Holiday Ocean View project in Ilihan, Camudmud.

Gales said the residential resort community developments are attracting local and foreign buyers who do not mind the expensive rates of the developers.
He said Filinvest, which started 10-hectare Phase 1 of its project last year, is already working on the second phase of 10 hectares. The developer also targets to begin with the development of Phases 3 and 4 in 2009 and 2010, respectively. Gales said the various packages have lot prices ranging from P7,000 to P12,000 per square meters.

Meanwhile, he said Playa Azalea already sold 150 out of its 500 lots.
The developer of the Holiday Ocean View, which plans to build the first marina of its kind in the Visayas and Mindanao, sells its property for P15,000 a square meter. “I was even surprised that they are pricing it that much. I was told though that there are other subdivisions which prices the same,” he said.

A marina is a quay for yachts where refuelling and stock provisions are done.
Gales said these property developments have developed a unique niche market that’s why selling the properties are quite easy.
He said the city government matches these developments with construction of facilities like road networks, electricity and water.

Gales said the trunk road that would connect Babak to Kaputian is 95 percent complete that would lead to the Filinvest property and the Samal Casino Resort. The properties of Playa Azalea and Holiday can be accessed through an all-weather road. However, Gales said owners of these properties will enter through the seas so that road networks are not that of a big concern for buyers.

Caap expresses openness to utilize old Sasa airport
By Joy Romares-Sevilla

THE chair of the City Council committee on trade, commerce and industry, revealed Monday that the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (Caap) has expressed openness to receive proposals for the utilization of the old Sasa airport.

In an interview, City Councilor Peter Laviña said that the Caap has not yet decided as to what proposal will be pushed through for the utilization of the airport.

"Caap has not mentioned what is the most viable proposal for them, but I understand that for as long as they will earn profit from whatever proposal, then the authority will definitely support it," Laviña said.

He added that for him, the most viable proposal would be the establishment of a business process outsourcing (BPO) site in the three-hectare property.

"Of the proposals presented, I think a BPO site will be okay considering that now, it is a shell building, whoever will invest in the area will be the one to improve it," he said.

He further agreed with the statement of Bert Barriga, the vice-president of the ICT Davao Inc., who said that with the conversion of the old Sasa airport to a BPO site, it will enable to generate at least P70 million for the city for the next five years.

"Yes, that would be possible because the spaces would definitely for lease," he said, adding that the three-hectare property can accommodate three buildings.

Laviña, on the other hand, failed to name how many proposals were presented before the Caap. He said the proposals also include a convention center, a tribal village, a tourism school, a civil aviation school, a cargo logistics hub and others.

A lifestyle enclave cum hypermart/shopping mall will rise in Lanang area. This will be the fourth mall that is up and coming along with Ayala Land's Abreeza, Robinsons Land's Robinsons Cybergate, SM's mall in LCC.....and our very own ------- NCCC. :okay:

How will the up and coming NCCC would be like? But all these might change when huge malls and businesses along that stretch will start to cause heavy traffic. I hope the city government can do something to reduce the impact of the inevitable.

First, get rid of the motorelas plying parts R. Castillo Avenue so that the latter can become a more conducive alternate road for JP Laurel Avenue.

Second, prefer buses over jeepneys and multicabs.

Molave Restaurant

October 17, 2008 by rameshdataya

http://img516.imageshack.us/img516/7205/65272369os0.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Molave is located at Jacinto Street, right between the Ateneo college campus and Export Bank.

***

Sometimes, I can’t help but remember the old local restaurants in Davao City during the late 80’s and early 90’s: Barrio Gaisano, Honeybear, Goldies, Merco, Peter Pan, Dennis Burger, DeliHouse, Plaza… the list goes on and on.

Some of these restaurants/ food houses are now gone. Others have defied both time and the arrival of popular fast-food chains/ restaurants - and are still operating today.

Included in this list of old school local restaurants still around is Molave, a small food haven located at Jacinto Street, just right beside the Ateneo College Campus.

Our office is located around this area. But since my budget usually limits me to meals right around 50-60 pesos, I rarely eat at Molave.

Now, I’m not saying that Molave is an expensive restaurant. For a restaurant offering quality foods and services, their prices are actually reasonable.

Anyways, since I was alone for lunch earlier today and had this sudden craving for burger patties, I decided to pass by at Molave. I ordered their sampler number 2, consisting of 2 grilled burger patties, rice, side dish and iced tea. This meal is worth only 115 pesos. The patties are thick and tasty. Walang sinabi ang McDo at Jollibee. Needless to say, it’s definitely a winner (at least for a burger junkie like me).

Based on their menu, Molave’s specialty dish is the greaseless chicken, which I haven’t tried yet. But hopefully, I’ll be able to try that the next time I’m there.

Besides the food, I’m impressed with the hospitality and comfort that the restaurant provides. The waiters are very courteous and friendly. The restaurant itself has a nice interior, complete with interesting decors and comfy chairs.

All these factors help make Molave a good dining place and certainly worth a visit. No wonder why this old school Davao restaurant continues to thrive after all these years.

DAVAO (DoT-XI) EYES EUROPE (http://www.mindanaotimes.com.ph/story.php?id=22724)
By Rizalene P. Acac

The Department of Tourism in the Davao region is eyeing Europe next year to drum up interest on local tourism destinations.

Sonia Garcia, regional director of the DoT-XI, said about 10 resort operators and various local government units will participate in the caravan slated in either London or Berlin, the first ever promotional activity for the region, in the first quarter of 2009.

For the event, a new brochure and video will be prepared highlighting the island to highland destinations. She said the music video features the music which local artist Popong Landero performed during the recent World Music Festival.

Garcia said they are also awaiting the result of the nomination of Mt. Apo among the world heritage of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization as this will generate additional interest for the reservation area.

“It will put us in the map of tourism destinations,” she told reporters during the Kapihan sa Dabaw at SM City yesterday.

She said as part of initial drumbeating, one bus in London was painted with the picture of Philippine Eagle, the country’s national bird.

Garcia decried the almost lack of support from the private sector during previous tourism promotions. She said while they are marketing Davao region in general, the point of sale for hotels, resorts and other facilities should be done by their representatives.

But she conceded that joining promotion activities requires a big amount on the part of the operators.

Garcia said Davao region will benefit from the shift of DoT Secretary Joseph Ace Durano thrust to give emphasis on adventure tourism.

Kudos to our local government, the business sector, and the Dabawenyos! Wow...thank God sa blessings natin. We have been cited as one of the top earning cities and now we have been awarded as the country's most competitive metro city (again).

btw goys don't be intimidated sa ma paliwanag sa kabila , how many times we've been bashed by them we never even "cried" we only laugh about it, now RA said his sorry and it's a gentlemanly gesture but did we hear sorry from the likes of Akiba & Sera et al some of their forumers even flamed the situation .

RA theirs no need to explain again to them, what you've said last night is enough , well if those pictures hurts it's time for them to be patriotic not in virtual but in REAL World!you want to be a Hero go to your local executive & complain and not a hero calling us two faced!
