La Core Cafe

http://img166.imageshack.us/img166/5944/120620086388smallbf1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

There’s a new Cafe in Davao City.

It’s called La Core Cafe. Its at La Core building besides La Core Salon and Spa.

120620086388-small

I was with Blogie, Ria, Andrew, Gwing, and Levz last nigh.

However, we were somekinda dissapointed about this new cafe.

I ordered one of their smoothies.. Vanilla Flavor. You have two choices. Thirsty or Dehydrated. I think its just the size.

120620086390-small

For me it tasted like goat’s milk with 5 tablespoons of sugar. I even asked the lady at the counter to add more water.

Ate gwing Ordered cheese mallows (or something like that). She only took one sip.

120620086389-small

They have meals which look yummy.. and i think it is.. because those who ordered it were able to finish their food. And it looks yummy in the pics. Hope to be able to taste it soon.

I’d like to post some suggestions for La Core..

* Improve your products. Do some rounds of cafe’s. Do the “taste test” and compare it with your product. Then enhance your products based on what you found as the best for your taste.
* You furnitures consume a lot of space in your small spaced cafe. change your chairs. Remove the sofas. You can only put sofas if you have a big space.
* Remove the organ. It consumes space. Just put some nice speakers and play songs on your Mp3 player.
* Remove some of the lights. You have so many lights. Adds heat. Kaya mainit. And change your halogen lights to more cost effective and less heat remitting lights.

Pancake House eyes 2009 expansion in provinces and abroad

CASUAL DINING restaurant operator Pancake House, Inc. will continue expanding next year despite the threat of slowing consumer demand due to a sluggish economy.

In an interview, Cecile D. Macaalay, Pancake House treasurer and director for corporate planning, said the company would spend P60 million to set up more than 20 new stores next year here and abroad. Most of these outlets will be sold to franchisees, she said.

"Food is still food and people will still eat. The strategy of the company right now is to keep our customers since people will more likely downgrade their spending next year," she pointed out.

She added that the company was looking at entering key cities in the provinces like Iloilo, Bacolod, Davao and Cebu, as part of their expansion next year.

Pancake House will also set up brands Terriyaki Boy, Dencio’s, and Sizzling Pepper Steak in these areas.

Aside from the provinces, Ms. Macaalay said Pancake House might open five stores in Kuala Lumpur around April next year.

"Someone is already interested to get a franchise in Malaysia. The goal of the company is to open five new stores every year in Malaysia," she said.

Pancake House has identified Malaysia as its gateway to the Asian consumer market and will introduce the brand Pancake House International, the company said in its financial statement. Pancake House has two outlets in Malaysia, set up in December 2007 and April 2008. Both are owned by the company and have not been franchised.

Aside from Malaysia, Ms. Macaalay said they were also looking at Singapore and Vietnam.

With the expansion and the opening of six new stores before the year ends, Ms. Macaalay said they expect to post higher profits next year, even as Pancake House will likely post flat growth this year because of the US-led global economic slowdown.

"[This year] is really bad. We are expecting our earnings this year to be flat since we are experiencing lower sales. The company will try to manage whatever costs since we cannot do anything with consumer spending [behavior]," she said.

Company profits went down by 6% to P9.2 million in July to September from a year earlier.

This brought nine-month profits to P40 million, 3% up from the year-ago level. Pancake House posted a net income of P63.4 million in 2007.

"Because of what is happening globally, we know that we have to implement a disciplined expansion and choose the locations carefully so as not to saturate the market," Ms. Macaalay said.

Before the year ends, Pancake House will have a total of 167 stores from 129 last year.

Pancake House, Inc. is the owner of Pancake House, Dencios, Terriyaki Boy, Singkit, Le Coeur de France and Sizzling Pepper Steak. — Kristine Jane R. Liu

40 US doctors, nurses to conduct medical mission in Davao City

Mindanao Daily Mirror
December 10, 2008

DAVAO CITY (PNA) — About 40 doctors and nurses from Michigan, USA will hold a three-day medical mission on January 26 to 29 next year, according to Kiwanis Club of Davao City lady president Eleonor H. Madiclum.

Madiclum said preparations are now in full swing for the medical team arrival and final planning meeting on Dec. 15 at the Davao Medical Center (DMC) here.

She said the January activity will be the fifth year that Michigan doctors have been conducting free surgical operations in Davao City as a way of sharing their blessings to the Davaoeños.

Led by Van Ong, Oscar and Debbie Ong, whose families are from Davao, in coordination with the Kiwanis Club of Davao City, the group has donated hospital equipment like X-ray machines, dialysis machines, hospital ambulance and other surgical equipment.

“Michigan doctors are really happy and ready to share their medical expertise to our doctors here in Davao, Madiclum said.

She said donation of hospital equipment came from the World Medical Relief Inc., Great Ladies of Kiwanis Club of Cosmopolitan Detroit (counter parts of Kiwanis Clubs in Davao City, Division 7 & 8).

The medical mission will include heart by-pass operation, cranio facial, Gyne, thyroidectomy, hernia, cataract and cleft palate.

There will also be a neuro consultation and emergency medical system (EMS) training at the rehabilitation clinic for one day on Jan. 10.

A pre-screening will be held at the Healing Garden of DMC on the same day.

Real estate player sees bright prospects in Davao
Mindanao Daily Mirror
December 10, 2008

Despite the economic slowdown in the global market, a major real estate player is anticipating bright prospects in Davao next year.

Maryline Lim, general manager of Samantha Homes said there is a large housing need in Davao City saying that the company is targeting the medium level market.

She said the newest Samantha Homes project is at Bago Gallera which they will enroll as Pag-IBIG City consisting of over 800 units. The site she said will include playground and multi-purpose hall that will later be turned over to the homeowners association.

She said their company caters to employees, the overseas Filipino workers and the self-employed.

The subdivision features include water facility sourced out from the Davao City Water District, an overhead transmission lines provided by the Davao Light and Power Company, underground drainage and concrete roads with curbs and gutter.

But Lim said they don’t just build houses because they see to it that they would also introduce some new designs in their projects.

In the pipeline next year she said is the 400 units project in Panabo City.

All in all she said to include the new projects, Samantha Homes house and lot units accounted to 3,120.

Their other projects are found in Matina Aplaya, Barangay Lizada in Toril, Paligue in Padada, Davao del Sur, Catalunan Pequeno, Catalunan Grande.

Lim said they are careful with the supervision of the project because of the “buy back” policy of financial institutions like Pag-IBIG Fund.

She said Pag-IBIG Fund for that matter pay particular attention to project development including the first years of repayments of home-buyers.

She said they do not want also to be remiss of their responsibilities saying that they need to comply what has agreed between them and Pag-IBIG Fund.

“What Pag-IBIG Fund had invested are the funds of the members and we make good of our investment because these are money of the Fund members,” she said.

Lim however stressed that they reach out to their homebuyers in order for them to make good of their repayment record.

She said with the reduced interest rates extended by the Pag-IBIG Fund and the rebate extended to homebuyers who are “good payors,” owning a house now is very affordable.

Meanwhile Davao City Investment and Promotion Center head Engr. Roberto Teo expressed good prospects for real estate in 2009.

Teo in a separate interview said real estate will continue to pick up in Davao City next year.

He said a new subdivision project with investment of P120 million will commence next year.

He also said that constructions of two big investments on real property are on-going while developers of new condominium projects have already shown keen interest for new construction here. These are in addition to the DMCI condominium and that of the ongoing Filinvest development project. PIA/prixdbanzon

Ay, Quile!
Jun Ledesma
Sunbursts
Wednesday, December 10, 2008

AN AWE-inspiring story comes to life when a grand Filipino Musical produced in its entirety in Davao City takes the stage. The story is written by Fe M. Ayala, the same passionate mind that produced the lyrics of the blockbuster "Miss Kita Kung Krismas."

The musical is a true story and the narrative dramatically weaved the kaleidoscopic episodes in the life of Quile, a lass from a remote and small village of Cuyo, an island off the northern tip of Palawan. This would have been just another love and adventure story except that this one spans four decades of incredible and dramatic saga of love and the excruciating pain of having loved and lost. Nobody can write the story more intimately and with more piercing fervor than Fe M. Ayala who can very well be the daughter of Quile herself! Find that out for yourself. One thing comes clear to my mind. This Quile, who maybe is unschooled, might really be extremely beautiful and blessed as she was sought by accomplished men, had love and married thrice.

While the setting is in far away Palawan, the writer and those who made and will perform in this musical are all from Davao City. Ayala writes the play with an expanded scenario by local playwright and Palanca awardee, Arnel Mardoquio. All twenty songs are composed by Fe M. Ayala and Hermie Uy and arranged by Ernesto Baladjay and Lorie Ilustre. Ay, Quile! runs for one hour and 45 minutes, a full length and original music theatre production crafted by local artists. It is directed by Nestor Horfilla.

On December 11, the production will be formally launched with a special preview of Ay, Quile! It will be presented by Mebuyan Peace Project, Inc. at Taboan, Matina Town Square. Regular shows will start on February 2009.

Watch for the regular run, assuming you haven't got an invitation to the preview. Reading from the synopsis stirs the emotion. The sequence of love, joy, pain, rage and triumph makes this musical production a remarkable work of art.

You can cry and find delight in it.

Learning and fun
By Stella A. Estremera
Sunstar Davao
December 08, 2008

IT WAS one work that took longer than artist Kublai Millan could normally create a park. It just kept on growing, and we just kept on photocopying it for children to color, as we skipped from group to group bringing photocopied drawings and crayons. Finally the sets of drawings became a book -- a coloring book.

Make that three coloring books.

The "Ang Batang Makulay" series of coloring books by Kublai, for Bantay Bata 163 with the help of the Ateneo de Davao University Research and Publication Office (AdDU-RPO) is made of three volumes that illustrate Filipino values and the rights of the child. Volume 1 is "Mabuting Pag-uugali", Volume 2 is "Mga Karapatan at Tungkulin", and Volume 3 is "Mga Katutubong Laro".

It was launched last November 27 at the AdDU Jacinto campus with several schoolchildren from Emar Learning Center and from Bantay Bata attending, albeit unmindful of the program proceedings, as they were busy coloring their art sheets.

A three-volume set goes for P250, of which a portion goes to Bantay Bata.
It's a perfect gift for children this Christmas.

As buena mano, the Davao Light and Power Company showed its support for the project by purchasing all 150 sets that were available for the launch. That's a good start.

we have the same observation. i myself is not comfortable talking in Tagalog sa Davao. sa Manila, no problem.

it may only be a coincidence but ONLY Kolehiyalas and chicks speak Tagalog nga sagol Bisaya pero most ordinary citizens bisaya raman lagi? :D at first i really laughed (but never meant to offend) even if you talk to them in Bisaya (which they actually understand) they still talk back in forced Tagalog, and i got the hang of it anyway. :) but the moment you step outside Davao City, i felt everything went back to Bisaya dialect mode. hehe

but i think this is already part of their culture na siguro and not something they want to pretend. after all, Davao City is where most Southern Mindanaoans flock which i believe do not speak Bisaya, or shall I say Cebuano :okay: thus the Tag-Bis. correct me if i'm wrong though. :D

but i think this is already part of their culture na siguro and not something they want to pretend. after all, Davao City is where most Southern Mindanaoans flock which i believe do not speak Bisaya, or shall I say Cebuano :okay: thus the Tag-Bis. correct me if i'm wrong though. :D

kanya kanyang lugar kanya kanyang kultura I guess :) From what I have observed maski bisayang Davao is different from bisaya Cebu nga different sab sa ubang bisaya.sa kinaiyahan na jud na and dili ta maka ingon kung mali ba or dili nor can we judge kung pasosyal ra ba or dili.

I hate the fact though nga kung desente imong kastorya mag tinagalog ka then kung yanong tawo ang kastorya binisay-on. siguro sa pagka melting pot na lang jud nya mao saksak sinagol ang dialect dire (remember daghan dire ang gikan cotabato and didto tagalog ang storya, then naa pa mga ilonggo speaking people from SoCot..so halo halo na ud..naa pa among mg aparyente nga ang origins namo eh central luzon.)

i noticed that when i was in davao. most of my friends were speaking tagalog. (most people were...especially teenagers and college students) i was like what is up with that? is that the new trend? im really concious because i cant speak tagalog fluently. if i try it'll be more like bisaya mixed with tagalog. oh yeah...and those people who speak taglish (for me) sound retarded. especially when girls do it and they try to sound cute or whatever. ex.
Bakit later pa? y not now? >_> its like fingernails on blackboard.

In line with this post...

I don't frown upon people who choose to speak tagalog for all I care. Tagalog is the national language anyway and everyone is free to use it. I myself fnd it easy to speak to my colleagues, friends and relatives in Manila, in tagalog because I use the language though not very often in Davao. In my observation, most of those who are tagalog-averse are the ones that can't speak it comfortably. :)

that's ok rusty, many also laugh @ your version of bisaya (but never meant to offend also).

and that was not "forced tagalog" as you called it, just a different variety. see, in Luzon, they also have many versions of it. Manila, Laguna, Cavite, Quezon, Tarlac and most notably Batangas, they all speak different varieties of the language. there is no such thing as "forced tagalog".

here...

i've just read it from the net, just want to share!

> How can one distinguish a Davaoeno to a Cebuano? Or to a Cagayanon? Difficult? Easy. Davaoenos are one of the most unique people in the world. We can easily stand out if we are placed in a crowd of Filipinos from other parts of the country. And how, you say? Language.

> Davao City, aptly called the melting pot of cultures, is home to many

> dialects. Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilonggo, Ilocano, Chavacano, Moslem, Bicolano. Name it, we'll speak it. If the Filipino language is a composition of all the dialects and languages in the Philippines, you might as well say that the language we speak in Davao City is the real Filipino language, and not Tagalog.

> However, since it is a hodgepodge of different tongues, it is sometimes funny to hear our language "bastardizing", for lack of better word, the other dialects. Strangely, that distinguishes us from the rest. Try these.

> In stating a fact, Manilenos say, "Talagang mabait si Weng." In Davao, we say. "Mabait bitaw gyud si Weng". Too assertive? One asks, "Ano nga `yong pangalan mo?". In Davao we say, "Ano gani `yong pangalan (or worst, ngalan) mo?". When somebody commits a mistake or surprises someone, we always never fail to say, "Halaka!". Duh.

> We are fond of re-constructing the language. There's the GI+ verb, such as,"Gisabi kasi ni Helen na mag-absent si Bernerd bukas", or "Ginanon ni Lalai si Belinda sa mukha". You'll never find "ginanon" in any dictionary, I swear to God. There's the KA+ adjective, as in, "Kaputi gyud ng mukha ni Yang-yang" or "Kapayat gyud ni Jason ngayon." The MAKA+ verb form, such as, "Maka-inis talaga si Albert, uy!" or "Maka-uwi talaga ako ng matagal ngayon".

> The NAG+ verb, as in,"Nagsabi kasi si Tita Prescy na pupunta daw tayo ng airport" or "Hindi pa man siya nagdating, uy!"

> Adding new words or new meanings to old words to the dictionary is one of our favorite past time. NAKIN: "Alam man nakin `yan ba!", "Saan nakin kita nakita gani?". KU-AN: "Ku-an daw ang gawin mo", "Si ku-an kasi ano masyado". (No sense at all.)

> ANO: "Na-ano ka diyan, Bryan!", "Ano man yan si Van, uy!".

> HA: "Lake-ha na ng tiyan ni Lulu uy!", "Gwapa-ha niya uy!"

> BEH: "Sige daw beh, dare!", "Pakipasa daw ng ballpen ni Tzaris beh".

> KAY: "Huwag na, Wowie, kay nandito naman si Norma", "Umupo ka muna kay nasa-CR pa si Elma."

> To express disgust over someone, we utter, "Gago kaba diay para maniwala sa kanya", or "Ano man yan siya uy!", or "Maka-inis man yan siya, uy!", or when pestered when doing something, you'd quip,"Huwag lagi ba!" On the other hand, when we praise somebody's extra special deed or talent, our Davaoeno tongue slips words like,"Kuyaw lagi `yan siya!", "Galenga niya uy!", "Ayusa niya uy!", "Kuyawa ni Orly uy!" or "Hindi ako makatu-o sa ginawa niya!" . Hay, makatawa talaga. Ooops!

> There are just so too many words to mention. Just check out the words you spew everyday. Sometimes you just laugh at yourself when you realize that you've just said those very words. No matter how long you stay in Manila or in the States, the moment you're back to Davao, your tongue feels as at home as you do. Language is the very soul of every being. You just can't do anything about it. Or as how we say it,"Anohin man natin yan?"

Unfazed by fears of recession, Samsung concept shop opens
By Rizalene P. Acac

A local entrepreneur opened yesterday the first exclusive Samsung Concept Shop for the Davao region at the Gaisano Mall of Davao banking on the remittances of Overseas Filipino Workers to tide the after effects of the US economic meltdown. Ruben Bangayan, also owner of Holiday Spa and Gym and the Venue Compound, said he was determined to open the store because it was conceptualized even before the global financial downturn.

Bangayan said his experience of selling Samsung brands can be traced back 20 years ago with the opening of his appliance store in Metro Plaza along J.P. Laurel Avenue, Bajada. “I believe that the Philippines has something. We have 14,000 OFWs that remit $16 billion. Granting that we lose two million. It will only be 15 to 20 percent,” he said. The entrepreneur believes foreign employers would rather cut down on other expenses rather than lose their Filipino workers.

Gerard Duremdes, Samsung head for Southern Mindanao, said the prospects for the A and B markets in Mindanao for the upcoming year are “good.”
Duremdes said the company slashed the prices of some of their products to urge more clients to purchase state-of-the-art lines as impact of the crisis crawls towards the Philippine shores. As an example, the cheapest SlimFit TV can be purchased at P7,995 or P1,00 less that the regular price of P8,995.
Consumers can also get P20,000 discount on the latest 8-series LCD TV, a 52-inch flat screen TV with content library, from the regular price of P249,900 if purchased on cash basis.

The concept shop also lowered the price of home theater appliances as part of the package for an LCD TV.
Its very, very competitive. The value for your money is already good,” he said adding their products are both of good quality and superior design
Bangayan said there are also plans of extending the product lines of the store from appliances to mobile phones and even printers. “Its about time that Davao should have a store like this,” he said.

yeah...the thing is a person could have 4 jobs in philippines and still not enough to support the family. im talking about those ordinary filipinos not those rich ------- who gets richer every year.

i guess what im trying to say is
if you're going to provide good employment try to have good pay, too. oh, and get rid of the 12% VAT.:lol::lol:

yes I agree. and I just roll my eyes when certain regions insinuate that Davao MUST only speak bisaya...like, one of my friends went North of Davao (this was around Y2K), and they laughed at her because she predominantly speaks tagalog, but understands and can speak bisaya too. they asked her if Davao speaks tagalog or bisaya, she answered, "halo"...wahhh, tagalog diay gihapon, kay "halo" man ang iyang tubag , "halo" to me sounded bisaya that's why I wondered what they meant with it, kayo hulaan nyo why laughed...

then they always ask her, "ngano dili n lang man mag-bisaya ang davao, ngano mag tagalog pa man jud?"...I wanted to asnwer that question with, "may pa ka buot2x, why do you want to force your language with us? superior ba yang language nyo compared to what's Davaoeño?" just my 0.2 cents (Php)

yeah...the thing is a person could have 4 jobs in philippines and still not enough to support the family. im talking about those ordinary filipinos not those rich ------- who gets richer every year.

i guess what im trying to say is
if you're going to provide good employment try to have good pay, too. oh, and get rid of the 12% VAT.:lol::lol:
the vat is a fund raising contingency supplement for some peoples lifestyles in case target revenue is too low and obvious to cover it:D j/k

Davao have different indigenous tribes diba? BAGOBO, MANDAYA and many more...and they all have their own dialects and i think its already a reason for davaoneos to speak tagalog para magkasinabtanay..besides, the real davaoenos has its own dialect but i think the people of samal speaks it...and for the record, davao has been declared as one of the most livable cities in asia, which means, alot of people from different places come to live in Davao..and for them to understand each other, they either use english or tagalog...

oi don't say that, people on the streets are Dabawenyos too hehe.. when we were in Davao, a lot of times we spoke with the bar and restaurant attendants, hotel receptionists, fastfood cashiers, cab drivers, traffic enforcers and security guards, mall goers, church goers and people at the coffee shops. :) i wasn't paying attention on how they talk but rather their instructions, directions and helpful tips. yes, everyone we talked to are friendly and approachable  the traffic signs, street signs and print ads however, are all either in English or Bisaya. :D

It's rare to find a person in samal who speaks manobo in samal now. Wala na ko kadungog gyud didto naay mos istoryahanay ug bagobo or manobo. Pero parteng Davao Oriental up to Tandag, they still speak mandaya or kamayo over there but they'll speak to you in bisaya if they know you're not one.

Sa Davao City mismo, i rarely hears anyone speaks mandaya but sometimes, mandaya words creeps in every now and then from people i know who were long time residents of Davao, even if they were originally tagalog or cebuanos.

we have the same observation. i myself is not comfortable talking in Tagalog sa Davao. sa Manila, no problem.

it may only be a coincidence but ONLY Kolehiyalas and chicks speak Tagalog nga sagol Bisaya pero most ordinary citizens bisaya raman lagi?

naa man jud tribes sa different places, sa inyo diay wala'y tribes? hehehe...like, in Manila, naa pud original settlers didto, mga negrito yata or malays ba un, or sa Baguio naa pud didto ang mga igorots...pero I don't think we call non-igorots in Baguio "fake", or non-malays in Manila "fake" Manileños. :)

as far as I know, walang dialect per se ang Davao. well, if you know something, you can share it with us. besides, kung dili diay part sa isa ka tribo, dili na diay real? :D
peace @bOrN2BwILd. :)

dili ko antipatiko, "fake" Davaoeño ko...

there was a time when we say dabawenyo, it pertains to the early settlers and their descendants. thru time they also have developed their own dialect called dabawenyo or dinabaw - a mixture of a tribal language (mainly mandaya) bisaya, tagalog and ilonggo.

now when you say dabawenyo, it's more of anybody from davao (whether born of or who decided to call it home).

there's a lot of dabawenyo speakers in davao oriental. probably some in davao city (descendants of the original settlers).

Council reclassifies zone for operation of beverage plant
By Yas D. Ocampo

The city council approved yesterday an ordinance reclassifying the 12,649-square meter property from protected light industrial to heavy industrial zone to accommodate a beverage plant in Binugao, Toril District.

The ordinance, proposed by Councilor Arnulfo Ricardo Cabling, was the council’s response to a request by Alfredo M. Yao, chairman and founder of SMI Development Corporation, to reclassify the property under the Amended Zoning Ordinance of 1996.
The reclassification, however, covered only the part of the property where the proposed bottling plant is planned to be built.
According to the plan submitted by SMI to the committee on housing, urban and rural development, the six-hectare property will be be developed into an industrial complex with an administration area, a warehouse, and a site for future expansion, aside from the beverage plant itself.
The area was known to the committee as a light industrial zone during the hearings, something which Cabling clarified was actually a ‘protected light industrial zone’ during the committee report prior to the resolution and ordinance.
The miscommunication cost the committee one endorsement from its members when Councilor Leo Avila III formally withdrew his signature after Cabling reported ‘only during the committee report’ that the area was classified as a protected light industrial even if it was identified by the City Planning and Development Office as an aquifer zone.
Avila said reclassifying a zone from a ‘protected light industrial’ to a ‘heavy industrial’ is a “continent of a difference.”
Avila was the only negative vote from the 21 voting councilors in attendance, with councilors Conrado Baluran, Diosdado Mahipus, and Danilo Dayanghirang each looking forward to the jobs that will be generated by the bottling plant.
The ordinance was approved with the conditions that mitigating measures to protect the aquifers such as tree-planting activities, waste water treatment facilities, a sewerage system, and a metered extraction of water will be implemented by the company.
Councilor Diosdado Mahipus, meanwhile, added an amendment seeking a portion of the payment by SMI to go to the city, aside from the National Water Resource Board.
SMI Development Corporation is owned and run by Alfredo Yao, the founder and chairman of Zest-O Corporation. Its products include RC Cola, Rootbeer, and Zest-O juices.

Sa Davao City mismo, i rarely hears anyone speaks mandaya but sometimes, mandaya words creeps in every now and then from people i know who were long time residents of Davao, even if they were originally tagalog or cebuanos.

we had some katabangs before who were full-blooded mandayas (sorry, i just had to point this one out as a case), i could hardly understand what (i do understand dabawenyo or as what you have said kamayo) they were saying. but true, they do speak bisaya. you will very know that you have entered davao oriental when riding a bus when people boarding talks in dabawenyo.

the old families in davao city still speak dabawenyo especially wthen there's a gathering.

[Press Release] Davao: top outsourcing destination

by Blogie • 10 December 2008

Hello and thanks for clicking on the Davao Blogspace link to this post! If you're new here, please subscribe to the RSS feed for updates on this topic.
Davao City makes it to the Philippines’ 2008 Top 10 IT-BPO Outsourcing Destinations

Davao City has added another distinction to its cap by ranking 4th in the Philippine 2008 Top 10 Next Wave Cities for ITO-BPO Destinations. Conferred by the Commission on Information & Communications Technology (CICT) and the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) last 3 December 2008 at the BPO Summit of the Philippines at Crowne Plaza Galleria in Ortigas Center, Pasig, this Award should put to rest the speculation that the city is not ready to host multiple IT-BPO locators/investors.

The CICT and BPAP scored no less than thirty-one (31) ICT-ready locations in the Philippine Cyber-Corridor and their performance in four (4) major areas to include talent, infrastructure, cost and business environment.

Davao City bested 4 other Mindanao ICT locations by scoring well in the areas of talent and infrastructure. The depth of Davao City’s manpower pool is on account of the presence of 42 colleges and universities, which yield about 15,000+ tertiary graduates annually. Complementing the city’s performance in the talent area is the presence of major telecommunication providers, increasing number of upcoming BPO real estate, accessibility by air & land, among others.

The local IT-BPO stakeholders led by ICT Davao Inc and its private and public sector partners welcome the challenge of increasing the city’s competitiveness for attracting ICT locators and investments by working on improving performance in the area of business environment and risk management. “We need to act together in improving the overall imagery of Davao City as a safe IT-BPO destination by providing substantive evidence to counter the negative perception on the Mindanao region. By so doing, we can continue to attract more ICT investments, create more jobs and improve Davao City’s economy,” says Wit Holganza, current president of ICT Davao Inc.

The ten locations that made it to the top next-wave cities for IT-BPO are:

1. Metro Laguna
2. Metro Cavite
3. Iloilo City
4. Davao City
5. Bacolod City
6. Angeles - Clark - Mabalacat
7. Baliuag - Marilao - Meycauayan
8. Cagayan de Oro City
9. Malolos / Calumpit
10. Lipa City

10. Lipa City

Bayho in mandaya dialect means "Nawong" in bisaya

bayho - face

and yes, dabawenyo.

mas OK ang bayho...hehe..
pero dapat dili mawala ang "Y"
