yes sir... the 800run (facing mt apo) will start at a higher location doon sa starting ng 400run... way-way back pa... then it will pass overhead the launching area ng 380run to the field left of the launching area ng 380run..
thats the plan...
also looking at the idea of another multi lift system na covered from the checkpoint sa highway to sabros area para sa hindi maka dala ng 4x4 sa taas.
those are the plans for this year.
yong 2.5k... still looking for a manufacturer ng cable na pwede walang joints.
kiko and i were talking about the 800meters and the 2.5km in sabros when @ gen1 suggested this ..afaik gen1 is working for PNOC in Mt. Apo :)
anong thickness and specs ng cable na kailangan ? 3/8" ?
Go straight to the manufacturer and they can make you the EHS Galv steel to the lenght you require. the standard lenght is 1524meters, so 2500 meters is easy.
3/4 to 1" is the size used in napocor towers. mabigat iyan pards. pero good time to buy ngayon as steel prices are at two year lows.
My extra high strenght steel cable manufacturer is based in marikina. we can ask them to make a special manufacturing run for you. kung sasama ka sa akin mag-trailing sa arakan, sasamahan kita sa cable manufacturer :D

PIA Press Release

New passenger terminal eyed in Sasa seaport
by RG Alama
Davao City (29 January) -- A new passenger terminal with modern amenities is set to be built as part of the ongoing Sasa seaport expansion.
Speaking at the maiden episode of the monthly Kapihan sa DOTC (Department of Transportation and Communications) media forum held last Wednesday (Jan.28) at the Philippine Information Agency Region XI office, Atty. Christian Santillan, Port Manager of Davao bared of the planned P200-million terminal which will rise in the seaport.
Santillan said that the modern passenger terminal will have a unique water dragon design and will be a fully-airconditioned facility complete with fully furnished passengers' waiting lounge, restrooms, x-ray machines for security, playgrounds and breastfeeding stations.
The port manager said that they are waiting for the squatters to be relocated from the intended construction site. He said that the PPA has already bought the land for relocation and has turned the site over to the City Government of Davao which in turn will facilitate the relocation.
Santillan said that reclamation of the land and eventual construction of the structure will commence once the area is cleared of its former residents. The new terminal will replace the current one-storey passenger terminal.
Meanwhile the P400-million expansion project of the Sasa Wharf is already 100% completed according to Santillan. The expansion will extend the old one-kilometer long berthing space by about 130 meters. The project started 2 years ago.
He says the expansion will help Sasa wharf accommodate more vessels and cargo, Santillan added that despite the worldwide economic slowdown, he sees no slackening of ship traffic and cargo volume. In 2008 the Port registered P325 million in gross profits or a P25 million increase compared to P300 million gross profit registered in 2007. (PIA) [top]

Davao firms to produce banana fibers for Japan

By Joy Romares-Sevilla
THE Fiber Industry Development Authority (Fida) in Southern Mindanao said a group of banana companies in Davao Region will embark on the production of banana fiber to be shipped to foreign markets, particularly in Japan.
Dr. Olympio Macarayan, Fida Southern Mindanao regional director, said Thursday that the agency has already inked partnership with the Aztropex Inc. for the use of Fida 11's two machines for banana fiber production. Aztropex will be using Fida machines for a year.
Aztropex has banana plantations in Davao del Norte and Compostela Valley, Macarayan said.
Macarayan said that the agency will also assist Aztropex on how to extract fibers.
"Aztropex has partnered with some banana companies like Tadeco, Lapanday, and Stanfilco for the production of banana fibers to be marketed in Japan," he said.
He said that the owner of the Aztropex, Ameerah Rose Sira, introduced the idea of producing banana fibers to other banana companies, admitting it could not produce the necessary demand for banana fibers in Japan.
"According to her (Sira), Japan needs 27 metric tons of banana fibers per month and Aztropex could not meet the volume, so she opened the idea to other banana companies to produce the needed volume. This is actually not its main business. Of course, Aztropex is into banana export to Saudi Arabia. The production of banana fiber for Japan will only serve as the company's sideline," Macarayan said.
He said Fida-11 already conducted trainings on how to extract banana fiber among workers of Aztropex.
The production of the banana fiber, he said, will be done in Aztropex's plant in Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte.
"The banana fibers to be exported to Japan will be used for fabrics," Macarayan said.
But Macarayan said he has no idea as to how much is the buying price of banana fibers for export, saying that the price was fixed between the supplier and the buyer

technically a straight yellow line indicates a two-way street. but in Davao, since we have traffic routes that are strictly one way, the line is used when approaching an intersection with traffic lights...like in the case of CM Recto approaching Marco Polo Davao and Ateneo...Thus, vehicles turning left should stay in the left lane and vehicles turning right in the right lane. This is an effective approach when a synchronised traffic signalisation scheme is being implemented..

probably aesthetics? but then i guess bec its a busy multilane of only unidirection flow, the solid yellow linestrongly indicates u-turn is a nono. vehicles turning right at any corners ahead should enter the road at right side of yellow and same goes to vehicles turning left at any corners ahead. this way imo prevents chaos and keeps the flow of traffic as smooth as possible.
but i dont know:D am speaking as road user of right handdrive traffic
MtApoStandard January 30th, 2009, 03:42 AM *uturn i meant when you have driven past your park slot at the opposite side of the road or yellow line.
sorry i made it confusingly wrong . parkink is all in the same direction i noticed. but i guess only allowed to one side of the road. so if you made mistake to use the lane at the opposite side of yellow, you need to exit the road and find a way that will bring you back to the lane where you can move unrestricted into where you want to park. i dont know if i made sense

that's why i hate london very much... they are driving on the wrong side of the road (i cheated death there several times already  )
davaoeagle January 30th, 2009, 03:56 AM technically a straight yellow line indicates a two-way street. but in Davao, since we have traffic routes that are strictly one way, the line is used when approaching an intersection with traffic lights...like in the case of CM Recto approaching Marco Polo Davao and Ateneo...Thus, vehicles turning left should stay in the left lane and vehicles turning right in the right lane. This is an effective approach when a synchronised traffic signalisation scheme is being implemented..
I beg to differ from your opinion, Gov. The yellow line should be used ONLY for a two-way road and there shouldn't be an exception. I was under the impression that our leadership made a lot of upgrades in the city in keeping with the international standards e.g. synchro/senso traffic light system, waste management, urban parks, 911 and so on. The case of Claveria street should be resolved with the use of short, tiny, broken lines with arrows right at the end of it to signify turns on both sides. The yellow line is simply a marker separating two opposing directions of the road and not as a division in the middle of it. :)
dinabaw January 30th, 2009, 04:17 AM maybe this solid yellow line is an exception to the rule as "international" don't have ignorant & unedecuated PUV drivers and i have also noticed solid yellow line mostly on the junction to accomodate vehicles waiting for left turn.
edit but i thought the solid yellow line covers only 20-30 meters but it's the whole stretch of CM Recto !LOL

I agree sir davaoeagle...the only other explanation I can think of is if they are creating a jeepney lane exclusively for PUVs :D

I guess you're right Ambie, turning it into a broken yellow line would mean a diffferent thing altogether. But still, that can be done with a solid white line if only to signify no crossing to the other lane or no passing (overtaking).

Di kasi nag consult sa mga urban planner dyan or sino bang traffic czar natin..
dinabaw January 30th, 2009, 04:35 AM ^^ so how could they solve the problem in that part of CM Recto ? i mean there is an unloading/loading on the left side(across ADDU) then vehicles should never cross both lanes and remember R. Magsaysay and Roxas Aves are just a short distance (more or less 15 meters)

I guess they have to scrap that unloading bay for good and maybe designate a route and an unloading station somewhere in the spacious Roxas Ave. This would mean AdDU studes have to now look for these routes and not hop on on any jeepney passing through Claveria. I mean there's a thousand and one ways to skin a cat and this is only my own simple interpretation of the problem.

That's right. Even the rather silent town of (well, it used to be silent but not anymore) Sta. Cruz) has its own share of big ticket investments. As far as I can recall, Mitsubishi Shipping is building a shipyard in the area. Franklin Baker, San Miguel and Pryce Gas have been there for years now and are a huge source of income for the municipality. So it's very safe to say that the development in Davao Region is so spread out and is benefiting every province therein.

That slipped my mind. Yes Hedcor, is a big investment that not only fattens the municipality's purse but also ushers in development of infra such as roads, electricity and bridges to name a few, to the hinterlands that have never been reached by these amenities for a long time.

Govinda January 30th, 2009, 12:14 PM No Retrenchment, Plant Closure at Holcim - Davao
There's no retrenchment of workers or plant closure in Davao City similar to the company's move in its Lugait plant in Misamis Oriental.
This according to the top executive of the Department of Labour and Employment in Southern Mindanao based on a monitoring conducted by the agency on Wednesday.
Earlier it was reported in a national paper that Holcim's Lugait plant was shut down but Holcim insisted it was not because of the global financial crisis but because of lesser demand of cement in the local market.

Daughter of former Miss Universe
donates Habitat houses for debut
At 18, a girl has the world in her hands – a robust life, newfound freedom and the spirit to start a promising future. For girls like Gabrielle Moran Floirendo, her debut opens the gateway to endless opportunities. At the end of the year 2008, a grand celebration was held in honor of the young debutante.
In true form, a magical Alice in Wonderland theme set the mood for the most enchanting evening of young Gabbi’s life. Clothed in the finest garments by Jun Escario, Gabbi received the company of scores of loved ones. Guests were given beautiful hair garments to top off their Alice in Wonderland costumes, were welcomed by the Queen of Hearts and the Madhatter and got comfortable on oversized chairs at long banquet tables peppered with colorful floralscapes by M di Flori topped with vibrant teacups. To capture the endearing disorder present in the original storybook tale, a replica of one of the tables hung precariously atop glass chandeliers, baroque mirrors reflected a distortion of the subject, an enormous clock ticked quietly away and a beautifully designed cake by Penk Ching awaited the attention of the celebrant. Even the service crew was not spared, garbed in costumes that resembled humongous decks of cards as vests.
Naturally, the celebrant joined her guests with much fanfare – amidst blaring trumpets, Gabbi was presented to her friends by her loving parents, Antonio Floirendo Jr. and Margie Moran Floirendo. The young debutante emerged in a midnight blue tiered gown and treated loved ones to a sumptuous meal by Margarita Fores, while 65 children from the Philippine Youth Symphonic Band played beautiful classical music for the celebrant and her guests.
Then came the most momentous part of the celebration. Gabbi, out of the goodness of her heart, had asked family and friends to donate money in lieu of gifts for the benefit of international non-profit Christian ministry, Habitat for Humanity Philippines (HFHP).
HFHP helps build responsible and self-reliant communities by enabling Filipino families in need to acquire affordable, decent, and durable homes. Since 1988, HFHP has built more than 24,000 homes for the underserved and the underprivileged communities in the Philippines.
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, HFHP builds and rehabilitates simple, decent houses with the help of homeowner families.
Among its many programs, Habitat is also present in Mindanao, spearheading the Peace Build project in partnership with the European Union. Peace Build aims to build for peace and development in areas where internally displaced people are severely affected by the ongoing conflict in the region. This is carried out by bringing people of different creeds and faith together to jointly address the massive need for decent housing in underserved communities. It is here that Gabbi has decided to donate all of the Php2,200,000 in cash and in pledges she has raised during her birthday celebration with the help of family and friends.
This thirst to help internally displaced families in Mindanao came from Gabbi’s exposure to the conflicted communities in her hometown of Davao. In the past two years, she, along with friends, volunteered their services at Habitat project sites in Davao Province and Davao City. Thus, it is only apt that she chose San Vicente, Panabo, Davao Province as the community to benefit from her birthday fundraising party. In Manila, Gabbi has also helped build homes at the FTI Rotaryvill Family Townhomes in Taguig and at the Bagong Buhay Village in Baseco, Tondo.
Aside from the monetary aspect, volunteerism offers a significant impact on both the volunteer and the beneficiary. Volunteerism helps imbibe a spirit of compassion and selflessness in those who give of themselves to others who are in need. This noble act helps volunteers learn and understand the plight of the poor. In turn, beneficiaries who experience compassion from others are able to get back dignity and are better equipped for bigger things in life. Volunteering to help build homes alongside homepartners also helps to bring down the house cost.
Undeniably, the party was not only a memorable merriment of the celebrant’s 18 years, most importantly the donation will help provide decent housing for at least 20 poor families and will leave a monumental impact on the lives of those she has touched.

MtApoStandard January 31st, 2009, 10:25 AM Great beer flows at Davao's newest 'avenue'
by Romy Sabaldan
Davao City (31 January) -- Just three days after proclaiming Ramon Magsaysay Avenue as the longest Night Market station in the Davao Region Kung-Hei-Fat-Choi class, another avenue has opened up last Wednesday evening (Jan 28). This time it is flowing with good music, beautiful people and great-tasting beer.
Unlike the night market avenue, where small time entrepreneurs are given the chance to earn money without renting any stalls in a long stretch of Tiangge-style market displays along the street, this new avenue cannot even be considered as an interior street.
And this "avenue" sells only nothing but beers.
It is called "Beer Avenue", the name chosen by the beer importers to complement the main business identity of the whole place which is called Paseo de Legaspi, along the old and historic Legaspi Street in the heart of downtown Davao.
The name "Beer Avenue" blends well with the architectural design of the historic place whose vertical structures combine the old setting with the new.
Aptly called because of the horseshoe-shape accessway which leads to the 20-room Legaspi Suites. The project was interestingly planned and designed not by an engineer but by the Treasurer of the PCLat Realty Chin Chin Lat who combined engineering talent in conventional wisdom with her artist husband and property developer Dennis Santos.

Landco developer 'pleasantly surprised' with Davao market
Published in Mindanao Insider, January 30, 2009, F
Real estate developer Landco Pacific Corp. is finding the Davao market performance “beyond expectation” as it has sold almost a third of the lots in its resort project, said Michael Reyes, the company’s Vice President for Visayas-Mindanao.
Since the soft launching in May 2008 of Playa Azalea, the company’s 33-hectare resort development project in Samal island, almost 200 lots have been sold out of 600, Reyes said.
“When we entered the market, we were afraid. But we wanted a project in Davao so much,” he told Davao media Wednesday night. “The performance has been beyond expectation. We are very surprised.” He added that most of their buyers are local.
A beachside lot sells for an average of P4 million, with a lot price of P8,000 to P12,000 per sq. meter, while a hillside lot averages P1 million at P4,800 to P8,000 per sq. meter. The beachside lots have been most sellable, said Project Head Danny Manlangit. He said the resort targets to sell all its lots by 2011 to 2012, by which time it would have been completed.
The company credited Playa Azalea’s good performance to their target market, friendly rates, and Landco’s reputation as a leading developer of high-end leisure and home communities.
Playa Azalea targets high-end buyers who are not as affected by the global financial crisis. “For them, crisis is the best time to invest,” said Manlangit. He added that the value of land has not deflated.
“Our rates are friendly compared to other projects in Samal,” said Reyes. Azalea is also just five minutes by speedboat from Davao City.
Playa Azalea is envisioned to be the Punta Fuego of Davao “with a twist,” said Reyes, referring to Landco’s flagship high-end resort in Batangas. “We hope Azalea to be the landmark of Davao. We aim to create a beach resort community. We will apply all the best practices we have learned from our other resort projects.”
Playa Azalea is the fifth resort development project of Landco and their first such in Visayas and Mindanao. In Davao, the company’s other projects are the Landco PDCP Corporate Center and Forest Lake memorial park. It also provided consultancy services and sales and marketing efforts to Aldevinco Shopping Center, Ladislawa Garden Village, and Woodridge Subdivision in Davao.
Landco’s flagship project for Visayas and Mindanao will be the 250-hectare Monterrazas de Cebu, envisioned to be a high-end urban community. Monterrazas de Cebu lots sell for P12,000 to P15,000 per sq. m. DAU

Davao films showcase Filipino regional cinema
by RG Alama
Davao City (31 January) -- The National Commission of the Culture and the Arts or the NCCA will be featuring works of Dabawenyo filmmakers in the coming Cinema Rehiyon Film Festival
Dubbed as Cinema Rehiyon: Alter Nativo (Films From The Other Philippines) the 4-day film festival is a non-competition film festival that aims to throw the spotlight on the film communities that are growing rapidly across the nation. The event be held at the CCP complex this Feb. 18-21 will exhibit 68 other films from other cities which includes Bacolod, Baguio, Cagayan de Oro, Cebu, Iloilo, and Naga
The festival which is a project of the NCCA in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines will feature the best and the brightest of the emerging filmmakers, who are making their movies in their own dialect, set in their own local towns and cities.
Davao is represented by short films Anino, Bombdrop, Egay, Anod, Takipsilim, Ang Press Release sa Dalaga nga si Adolfa and Ang Kabanata sa Buhay ni Abelardo Macaspac III.
Anino and Bombdrop are short films shot in Tagum City while Egay was shot in Matanao, Davao del Sur, the rest of the films have Davao City as their principal locations utilizing local actors and crew. These films were recently featured during the 4th Mindanao Film Festival held last December 2008.
The short films will be joined by two full-length Davao films namely Imburnal and Hunghong sa Yuta (Earth Whispers). The Punta Dumalag-set film Imburnal won the 10th Cinemanila Digital Lokal Lino Brocka Grand Prize Award and the CinemaOne Originals Film Festival Best Picture plum last year.
"If I may say so the Davao programme of the Festival is the strongest in our whole line-up." Teddy Co, Vice-Chairman of the NCCA Film Committee said. Co noted the active filmmaking movement in Davao with a film festival that has been consistently held every year since 2003.
Mindanao is well-represented in the Film Festival with participating cinemas from Davao, Cagayan de Oro plus Western and Central Mindanao presented by filmmaker Teng Mangansakan. "Mindanao has five slots, while Visayas has six and Luzon has four," Co added. (PIA) [top]

New 7-storey hotel opens in Davao City
DAVAO CITY, Jan. 24 (PNA) -- A seven-floor hotel with over a hundred rooms opened early January this year in Davao City.
Uy Ching Siong, owner of My Hotel, said the hotel was the former Grand MenSeng Hotel located in one of the city's major thoroughfares, the San Pedro Street.
With a project cost of over P47 million, he said the renovation was focused more on the rooms and the putting in of new facilities.
“Nothing was altered with the structures because when we check on the engineering works, it had strong foundation and in good condition,” Siong said.
The invested fund covered the land acquisition, the building renovation and machine and equipment.
He said My Hotel offers affordable rates plus other amenities like free WiFi access in every room, free long distance calls to the US and Canada, free Globe line to Globe line nationwide call, free Sun to Sun call, free local call, 24 hours security camera, fire alarm system, standby generator, PABX telephone system, color TV with cable in every room, elevator, free newspaper reading, function room and restaurant.
"We wanted to give the best to our client, that is why we also invested on these modern equipment and facilities," he said.
Despite the mushrooming of other small hotels in Davao City, he said they are optimistic of their hotel investment as they bank more of getting more clients with their location just within the heart of the city.
My Hotel is very near the San Pedro Catheral, the City Hall, San Pedro Police Station, banks and major stores.
He said occupancy rate is still fluctuating and that they are satisfied with what they have, although they need to promote the hotel either in Manila or Cebu.
This year, he also said they will expand the operations of their three other businesses -- Davao Imports Distributors, Davao Farms Corporation and Davao Builders Corporation in Agusan del Sur, and they will continue to put their presence in the major cities of Mindanao. (PNA)

THE Unity Archway at the end of Magsaysay Avenue was officially inaugurated Saturday afternoon and was turned over to Davao City by the Dabaw Kaisa Foundation, the Tsinoy organization that funded its construction.
After the ribbon cutting, the party proceeded to the Grand Men Seng Hotel for the appreciation dinner hosted by the City Government.
During the dinner, Davao City Government and Kaisa Foundation signed a memorandum of agreement to make the donation formal.
The archway was made through the efforts of the Chinese families in Davao City. Their names will be engraved in a slab of granite, which will be attached to one of the archway's posts.
The Unity Arch is only the second of the four archways that will be constructed on the borders of Davao City's Chinatown.
The first arch was placed at the corner of Ramon Magsaysay and C.M. Recto Avenues. The heirs of Francisco Villa-Abrille (Lim Chuan Juna) donated it. It was inaugurated in August 2008.
The Yuchengco family will reportedly sponsor the construction of a third archway at the corner of J.P. Laurel and Sta. Ana avenues.

Mindanao Times
January 31, 2009
Davaoeño Lee Van Corteza has won the recent staging of the Fatboy 10-Ball Challenge at the Derby City Classic held in the Horseshoe Casino and Hotel in Southern Indiana.
Corteza defeated European superstar Ralf “The Kaizer” Souquet in the finals 15-11 after outlasting US Open champion Mika “The Iceman” Immonen in the semi finals 15-10. Souquet overcame Filipino pool legend Francisco “Django” Bustamante in the other semi final 15-11.
Corteza won the $10,000 prize money in the first-time event featuring 16 of the best players in the world including Shane Van Boening and Corey Deuel among others. But in the end Corteza proved too good as he led all the way.
Souquet reportedly scratched four times on the break in the first half of the match and missed a couple of makeable balls in the second half while Corteza was said to have gotten some lucky rolls during the match.
In another major attraction two of the biggest stars in pool faced each other in a 10-Ball race to 23.
The showdown between “The Magician” Efren “Bata” Reyes and “The South Dakota Kid” Shane Van Boening started on Monday evening and lasted until Tuesday morning (Wednesday in Manila.)
While the Filipino legend held a small lead most of the match he faltered as the match wore on and the much younger Van Boening eventually pulled ahead late in the match to win 23-19 win.

hans sy was here last saturday. he said that he is very impressed with the way sm city davao is going. infact, malaki ang contribution ng sm davao sa profits ng sm prime.
he said the 2011 is the year for davao. construction of sm lanang will be last quarter of this year to first quarter of next year. tatapusin daw nila ng 1 year.
most probably daw mauuna sila magopen sa ayala.
he also said na sigurado na mar open dito ang ayala. i also found out the they (the sys's) are also a minority shareholder sa ayala land so he knows what he is talking about
by jan 2011, sm city lanang will open (alam na natin lahat ito). what we dont know is that hans sy said that sm lanang will be a premier mall. meaning the mall that is going to be constructed in lanang will be like the mall of asia. the mall will include an imax theater and a ice skating rink among others. it will mostly house high end shops. there willbe outdoor cafes and an outdoor auditorium.
eto na muna ang ireveal ko. meron pang iba.

how pathetic.
i dont read long scripted dramas, but by the looks of it let me ask you. like a poseur blogger, whats your agenda bringing this up on the table from out of the blue? dont pawn the blog for a excuse. dont pawn the blog to make us feel cebu city, philippines is like better, or a better looking city by the number of buildings in photos, etc. and dont pawn the blog to show us your perspective of urbanity and urban development. whether youre a native of cebu, iligan, or cdo dont pawn theblog to start comparing davao and cebu. stop throwing “insecure” like your clean of it. dont be a pretentious swagger dressed in childs cloth. the smell is disgusting to hear praising among themselves how down to earth they are. pretentious
I don't have time read that crap
hmmmmm..i smell something fishy there...i guess someone is trying to pit davao against cebu.... tsk tsk tsk...

Govinda February 2nd, 2009, 05:40 AM Because Davao is recognised as the financial hub in Mindanao.
In addition, according to Globe Masigasig Hot Spots Volume 2 Issue 5:
Natural advantages, along with modern infrastructures and world-class utilities, make Davao Mindanao's centre of commerce, trade, and services. Each of the Philippines Top 200 Companies has branches or offices in Davao. Moreover, there are so many expatriates and migrates in the city.
This is the reason why London-based bank HSBC set up shop here, including China-based Chinatrust..
