Ask lang ko...

Unsa ang qualifications para maka saka sa Mt. Apo? Unsay dapat dal on...
Kay ganahan ko mo saka og mga tallest...hehe
Pila kaha ang magasto tanan including sa fare sa airplane... Thanks:)

>AFAIK basta fit lang ka then depende pud asa ka nga trail mo agi. Daghan man gud agi-anan naa sa *Davao city (very challenging and trecherous-not recommended for newbies) *Kapatagan, Digos (2-3days to summit) *Kidapawan (1-2days to summit) "Makilala (no info) " Magpet (No info)

>Pack light lang, no need to bring ropes.

>Murag naa pud registration fee na P500 pero i dont know kung naa bayad kung dili climbing season.

>dapat pud magparegister para maka dawat ka ug certificate na nakasaka ka sa Philippine's Tallest peak.

Yap dapat mag dala gyud ug tent. Pinaka dali ang Kidapawan pero steep lang ang ascent sa kapatagan dugay pero nice ang view unya maka agi mo sa boulders nga na spew sa previous eruption and tanaw ang Davao from there. :)

Naa man sad porters ma gamit siguro P200-300 per day ang rate and they can carry your load para wala naka'y dalhon.

AFAIK now you should be registered to a registered Mountaineering group it's the new DOT regulation.

add sa dapat dalahin,

Marco Polo Hotels renews Davao contract (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/marco-polo-hotels-renews-davao-contract)
Sun-Star Cebu Online
10 February 2009

MARCO Polo Hotels has extended its management contract for another five years after 10 years of success in operating the Marco Polo Davao, Philippines; the city’s first international standard hotel.

A signing ceremony was held in Hong Kong and attended by the senior management of Marco Polo Hotels and Halifax Davao Hotel, Limited, the owning company of the hotel.

“We have enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial relationship with the Marco Polo Davao since its opening 10 years ago. We
are most pleased to be continuing our long-term relationship with our partners Halifax Davao Hotel, Limited.” said Steve Kleinschmidt, president of Marco Polo Hotels.

“We are delighted to be extending the management contract with Marco Polo Hotels. Based on the Group’s successful track record, we are confident that Marco Polo’s professional management team will continue to operate a profitable 5-star hotel offering a hospitality experience that is warm, efficient and distinctly Asian,” said Carlos Dominguez, president of Halifax Davao Hotel, Limited.

Marco Polo Davao has 245 guest rooms and suites and is situated in southern Philippines in the heart of the city’s business and commercial district. Only 20 minutes drive from Davao International Airport, the hotel overlooks the Bay of Davao and is the tallest building in Davao, giving it a landmark status. The hotel was named Marco Polo’s Hotel of the Year in 2008 and the award was presented during the gala dinner at the Marco Polo Marketing Conference.

GMA to grace Davao Port expansion inauguration today
Mindanao Daily Mirror
February 13, 2009

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is slated to grace the inauguration of the P420-million Port of Davao expansion project today at the Sasa Wharf in the City.

Inauguration ceremonies will be held at around 1 a.m. in the afternoon, the President who has identified the seaport project as one of her priority projects in Southern Mindanao will be joined by top cabinet officials and local govern-ment leaders in the region.

The Port of Davao expansion project started in early 2006. The project has two components mainly Phase I which involves the rehabilitation of an existing 42.35 meter by 18 meter quay and Phase II or the port expansion phase includes the construction of a 3,179 square meter Reinforced Concrete (RC) Wharf, the 13,180 square meter back-up area, moo-ring and fendering area, drainage system, port lighting and rockworks.

Phase II of the project was recently completed last Dec. 2, 2008.

The seaport expansion aims to decongest the growing Sasa wharf which posted a growth of 3.8% in 2007. It is one of the premiere export and import hubs in Mindanao and ranks fourth nationwide next only to the larger ports in Manila in terms of container cargo traffic and volume performance.

The Port of Davao’s proximity amidst the steadily growing banana and fresh fruit plantations in the Davao Region puts it in the world map as the leading conduit of high-value agricultural exports mostly for the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA), China, Japan, Korea, the Middle East and the Unites States markets.

According to Philippine Ports Authority Port District manager Abdussabor Sawadjaan, the port expansion is in line with the PPA’s vision to undertake continuing development geared towards the accommodation of larger export vessels, quay expansions, world-class management of container operations in the north side and passenger services in the south end. New HACT Clinic opens at Davao Medical Center
Mindanao Daily Mirror
February 13, 2009

The Davao Medical Center officially inaugurated yesterday the new clinic for HACT, which means Health and Care Today.

Originally known as HIV and AIDS Core Team, the name was changed to make it sound happier, according to Dr. Larissa Lara Q. Torno, head of the clinic unit.

The clinic will help cater to the needs of HIV/AIDS clients or who has been tested positive for HIV/AIDS, she said.

Dr. Alicia Javier Layug, HACT over-all chairperson, said it costs around P350 per blood test but counseling is free already same with the confirmation test if the first blood test taken was positive. Along with the free services include the free ARV medication, which is a tablet taken twice a day.

Dr. Layug said the anti-retroviral medication would usually cost P30,000 per month. They are glad to have the Global Fund’s commitment to support the HACT clinic by giving free ARV meds for a lifetime particularly for HIV/AIDS clients at DMC.

She said DMC and Zamboanga Medical Cen-ter are the two HACT clinics that offer treatment such as ARV. But she clarified that ARV won’t completely heal the client, instead it will just help prolong life.

There are now 57 clients, who are mostly single in status, and this census is only based from DMC, Layug said. In Mindanao there are 132 cases already, he said.

Dr. Renee Faldas, Department of Health’s STI Coordinator, said regarding the expensive price of the blood test it can be talked about especially if the person has not enough finances. It can also be given as HIV/AIDS blood test if it’s a referral, she said.

As always, cases such as this will be considered very confidential and any information received from the client will be dealt only by the attending physician or person directly in-charge to his or her health as the law requires.

For further inquiries about HIV/AIDS blood testing, you can contact Dr. Layug thru cellular phone number 0922-8638102.

Feel the love with OPM’s best crooners -- Jun Polistico, Anthony Castelo and Victor Wood -- in The Great Balladeers as the three artists perform live for the very first time their most enduring ballads they popularized in the past four decades.

Known as the soulful heartthrob Polistico had hits with Mahiwaga, Sana'y Maghintay ang Walang Hanggan, Mahawi Man ang Ulap, All I Ask of You with Sharon Cuneta, Langis at Tubig and many others.

Castelo, who also acted on stage and in films, came up with Balatkayo, Nang Dahil Sa Pag-ibig, Maghihintay Ako Sa 'yo, Kaibigan, Ibig Kong Ibigin Ka, Hahanapin ko, Of All the Things and many more.

Jukebox King Victor Wood dominated the airlanes in the late 60's and early 70's. He was a big seller with I'm Sorry My Love, Eternally, Malupit Na Pag-ibig,

Cheryl Moana Marie, In Despair, Teen-age Senorita and many others.

Polistico, Castelo and Wood all spent many years living in the States. But they moved back to the Philippines just for this rare concert.

The Great Balladeers is one trip down memory lane you should not miss.

The Davao will be special for these Great Balladeers as they will serenade Davaoeños right on Valentine’s Day, February 14, a Saturday, 8pm at CAP Auditorium. The concert is organized by Viva Concerts and Events, the same promoter that brought together revered music icons in the most enjoyable shows by Filipino talents.

Tickets to The Great Balladeers are now available at SM City Davao, Odyssey SM, Odyssey Gaisano Mall, Kuya Ed's Restaurant 1 & 2, Music Zone NCCC, Music Zome Gaisano Mall, CAP Auditorium.

Plans to institutionalize
‘night market’ under way

Efforts to institutionalize a night market in Davao City are now in the offing.

Oscar Casaysay, Mutya ng Dabaw project coordinator, said the committee has already discussed the idea with the organizers of making night market, a regular activity in the city.

He said the Mutya ng Dabaw committee is planning to conduct a three-day night market during the forthcoming Araw ng Dabaw celebration.

This came after the three-day night market held during the Chinese New Year celebration on January 24 to 26 turned out successful, he said.

Casaysay said the night market organizers for the Chinese New Year event reported to have generated over P10,000 earnings per night during the three-day night market.

He said the city government wants to put more relevance of the Araw ng Dabaw celebration aside from merely celebrating it.

Holding a night market at low prices is a big relief to the consumers and at the same time will boost the city’s economy, Casaysay said. Judy Quiros

Davao City soon to have a wakeboard park

I simply couldn’t contain my utter excitement when I found out about this yesterday - and via Facebook, no less. Apparently, Davao City will soon have a wakeboard park! Construction of the Davao Wakeboard Park is allegedly underway and it’s set to be completed on April 2009. The grand opening of this new Davao City tourist attraction is slated for May 2009. Just in time for the tail end of summer 2009! As a certified water sports aficionado, I simply cannot wait to visit this complex soon!

For the uninitiated, wakeboarding is a surface water sport wherein a person uses a wakeboard (this one’s smaller than a surfboard but a little bit bigger than a skateboard) over the surface of a body of water. This sport was reportedly developed via a combination of water skiing, surfing and snowboarding techniques.

Based on the vicinity map found on this page (which I also got from the DWP Facebook page), the Davao Wakeboard Park will be located somewhere near Tugbok and Mintal (which is roughly 20 minutes away from Ulas, Davao City and 10 minutes from Calinan)

Dabawenya Mindanaoan to compete in Binibining Pilipinas 2009

I was pleasantly surprised to see our “Baby South” during the press presentation of the official candidates of this year’s Binibining Pilipinas 2009 pageant. “Baby South” refers to Priscilla Mae Navidad, a 17 year old Dabawenya. I met Mae a few years ago in Davao City, Mindanao. I was helping organize the Davao leg of the nationwide “Rainbow Tour” of premiere Filipino band South Border and after the concert, I was also selling copies of their award-winning platinum CD, “Episode III” (yes, I know, major plugging na ‘to LOL :D) Anyways, there was this tall girl who kept on asking me if she could meet Jay Durias (South Border’s musical director and keyboardist) because, according to her, they were cousins.

I must admit, I had reservations at first because after all, there was virtually A MOB of fans there at that time and there was no way for me to tell if her claim was true or not. However, there was just something real and innocent and sincere about her and so I allowed her to enter the backstage. To make the long story short, Jay was even thankful because I let Mae in. It was pala a reunion that he has been waiting for. Now was that cool or what?

Anyways, after that fateful “meeting,” Mae and I have kept in touch. Whenever South Border has a concert in Davao, we always meet before the show, chit chat as if there’s no tomorrow and together welcome our favorite band with shrieks and shrills. The last time we saw each other was during Jay’s solo concert at The Venue (Mae already won the Miss Teen Philippines pageant at that time). A few months later, she entered the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition reality show (ABS-CBN Channel 2). She was tagged as the “Deaf Dreamer from Davao.” After her PBB stint, we got in touch through text and even planned a get-together. Unfortunately things just got so busy - we were both busy traveling - she for her PBB related concerts and I for my business and work. And now, I learned that she entered the Binibining Pilipinas 2009 pageant! Wow, I feel so old LOL Ah, our baby Mae is really all grown up!

Anyways, I wish her good luck. Let’s hope another Mindanaoan beauty captures the crown this year!

The Bb. Pilipinas 2009 coronation night will be on March 7, 2009 and will be aired via GMA Channel 7.

Here are the official 24 candidates of the Binibining Pilipinas 2009:

3rd Chinatown arch completed in 4 months

DAVAO City Chinatown's third archway called the Arch of Peace, which will be built on Sta. Ana Avenue near the Davao Central high School, will be completed in four months.

Dabaw Kaisa Foundation chair and Davao City Chinatown Development Council co-chair Sebastian Angliongto said the archway would cost around P2 to P3 million and will be funded by the Alfonso Yuchengco, former ambassador to the People Republic of China and a Taipan.

Yvonne Yuchengco, representing her father, and Angliongto as Dabaw Kaisa Foundation chair signed the memorandum of agreement on Jan uary 31 at the RCBC office on Monteverde Street.

The Arch of Peace is the third installment of the four archways that the local Chinese community aims to build on the four borders of the city's Chinatown.

The development of the Chinatown area was an initiative of City Council tourism committee chair Susan Isabel Reta in efforts to have more tourist attraction in Davao City.

In an earlier interview, Patricial Melizza Ruivivar, the mayor's chief of staff, said the city also mulls the celebration of its own Japanese festival as Japan's contribution to the city's history. (GLP)

SM City Davao posts sales growth in Jan.

By Carlo P. Mallo

AMID the global financial crisis that hit major economies around the world, SM City Davao still recorded a double-digit growth in its sales in the first month of this year.

SM City Davao mall manager Debby Go told Sun.Star Davao Thursday their sales for January hit double digit despite the bleak economic forecasts and the actual performance of the local economy.

Although she refused to reveal the actual figure, Go said that it was a big surprise for them.

"It's double digit for January 2009 and we hope to maintain that," Go said.

In global economies, the retail sector has been hit hard, particularly in the United States wherein top retail store, Macy's, was forced to lay off 7,000 of its work forces.

In Southern Mindanao, the effects of the global financial crisis have already been felt as some companies have already started retrenching workers, while others opt for flexible work schedules.

For its part, government agencies have extended help to the displaced workers such as the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (Tesda) 11 which has allotted 20,000 slots for its various courses in the region.

Meanwhile, the Department of Labor and Employment in Southern Mindanao will hold a caravan throughout the region to provide assistance for the laid off workers and those who remain unemployed.

Hot Pink opens 2nd branch in Davao City

By Joy Romares-Sevilla

HOT PINK, the premier local lingerie brand in the country, opened its new store at SM City Davao on February 8.

Kaye Garcia, owner of the Hot Pink, said the SM Davao's branch is the second home of the specialty shop in the city. Hot Pink Lingerie has also its outlet at the Chimes.

"I have four branches in Manila, one at SM in Cebu, and two in Davao," Garcia said, adding that she is still bullish with business prospects for her product this year amid the global economic meltdown.

"We are opening another branch here because of the city's potential market," she said.

Garcia is the sister of image model and television personality, Mariel Rodriguez, who worn Hot Pink's black ultrasonic bra in FHM's December 2008 issue.

Garcia said: "the market demand for affordable high quality intimate apparel made of luxury fabrics is increasingly high."

But she was quick to add that Hot Pink is proud to have met this demand.
"The key to Hot Pink's success is design," she said.

Hot Pink products, she said, are exclusive and that they are prioritizing the two most important factors: "the look and feel."

"Our products have fabulous designs, comfortable to wear, but still affordable," she said.

Garcia also said she may embark on importing more foreign brands such as the Sassybax, Body Wrap, Bela Bumbum, and Spanx, which is already available at Hot Pink.

"My thrust for this year is also to improve our products," she said.

She said they are also eyeing to open Hot Pink branches in other Mindanao cities, like in Cagayan de Oro, General Santos and Zamboanga.

"Our target is really to expand with a maximum of two branches per year," she said.

Hot Pink Lingerie, located at the second level of SM City Davao, is a franchise store by May Marte.

Oroderm set to open more branches in RP
01/25/2009 - 22:50Thursday, February 12, 2009

THE owner of the Oroderm Group of Company said Wednesday that the company will be putting up 13 to 15 more branches in the Philippines despite the looming financial crisis.

"We are all affected by the economic crisis, but in the end, we still have to pursue and we have to move on. This year, we are putting up 13 to 15 more branches in the country," Dr. Neil Oropeza, owner of the Oroderm Group of Company, said during Wednesday's Club 888 press forum at Marco Polo Davao.

He, however, failed to specify what Oroderm business the company plans to expand.

The Oroderm Group of Company includes businesses, such as the Oroderm Facial Spa, Oroderm Megaclinic, and Oroderm Laboratories.

Oropeza said one of his thrusts this year is to open branches in Manila, particularly inside malls like in SM City.

"We are opening up in Cavite, Valenzuela and Metro Manila," he said.

He, on the other hand, claimed that Oroderm branches inside malls are doing good in terms of income generation than those that are outside the malls. Oroderm has 32 branches now.

"Branches outside the malls have lesser rental fees, but also have lesser income. Unlike those inside the malls which have bigger rental fees, but also generate bigger incomes," he said.

He added that a lot of businesses prefer to open branches inside the malls because it is where the people usually go.

He said opening more branches would also mean adding more employees. At present, Oropeza said Oroderm Company has more than 300 employees.

He added that the most sought-after Oroderm products are the toner, soap, astringent and sunblock.

The manufacturing plant of Oroderm products is located in Laguna.

"I wanted to have it (the plant) here in Davao because it would be easier to monitor, but it's just that there was an opportunity in Laguna (so we built it there)," he said. (JGRS)

Expats mark 2nd anniversary with charitable activities
Written by Times Editors
Thursday, 12 February 2009 05:49

DAVAO AREA Expats Association (DAEA), a 125-member social, educational and charitable organization celebrated its second anniversary by providing time and financial support to Davao area charities.

The group assisted the "Field of Dreams Boys Home" in Biao Guianga, Tugbok. Thirty boys from ages 5 to 16 live in clean, well-cared for and supervised surroundings. Begun by an English national with help from charitable groups there, the Home must now become self supporting.

Expat’s charity program, headed by Gary Aube, Gary Dickinson, Father Tom Martin, and Ken Spanskie, arranged a July outing to beautiful Malagos Garden Resort where the boys were treated to an entertaining and educational bird show, picnic and enjoyable afternoon of swimming, co-sponsored also by Dr. Puentespiña.

In December, Expats sponsored a Christmas party with all the trimmings and presented the boys with gifts. Monthly, Expats help support the Home with food and medicines.

The expats donated food and personal supplies in December to an international organization of Catholic Sisters in Davao that ministers to the needs of the aged, homeless and terminally ill.

In addition, Expats provided a wheel chair to a young, critically affected cerebral palsy victim in Panabo donated by Tagum member, Mike French. Andy and Winnie Dixon and Bruce and Elena Linder delivered the wheel chair. Another member donated a second wheel chair to the Mayor’s wheel chair program.

The group’s charitable works totaled over P100,000 during 2008.

The DAEA invites expatriots of all nations to monthly meetings on the second Thursday at 4:00 PM in Coco’s Restaurant, Convention Center Compound, F. Torres Ave. Contributions are voluntary.

Written by Ian C. Garcia
Thursday, 12 February 2009 05:46

I've always been fascinated with the different flavors of Asia. That is why I always try not to miss the chance to sample them every time there’s an Asian food festival in the metro or when a new Asian restaurant opens.

Just recently, I got text message from my Tito Sunil, who’s Indian-Filipino and married to my pretty Tita Umbeer (my father’s youngest sister), inviting me to try their new venture – an Indian food buffet at Khash Kababs for only PhP 199.00. Two things struck me – Indian buffet and PhP 199.

Let’s talk about the food first. Unlike Thai cuisine, Indian food is characterized by subtle use of spices, thus, its fares generally come out only as slightly spicy (although it may vary from one region to another). Its evolution developed with its cross-cultural interactions with neighboring countries in Middle East and Central Asia and the Mediterranean as well as with the colonization of Europe which introduced more styles and diversity in cooking styles.

Indian cuisine was also influenced by religious beliefs, culture and trade, such as vegetarianism from its Hindu, Buddhist and Jain religions, use of so-called "new world" vegetables such as tomato, chili, squash and potato from its trade with the Arab, Portuguese and British, use of rich gravies, curry, pilafs and non-vegetarian fare such as kebabs from its Islamic religion, among others.

It is no wonder that Indian cuisine is as diverse and colorful as its historical evolution, and it is exactly why my Tito Sunil opened the Indian buffet restaurant – to share the to everyone the varied flavorsome recipes that his mother has taught and nourished them over the years for a price that is easy on the pocket.

While most of the items in their buffet are traditional Indian dishes – such as Biryani Rice, Chicken Egg Curry, Cauliflower Mix Bhaji, Vegetable Kofta, Vegetable Kabab, Chili and Vegetable Pakora, Tito Sunil, as taught by his moom, gave them even more flavor and made them taste even better. And for PhP 199, it is definitely a steal that I just can’t resist.

With a seating capacity of 30, their buffet restaurant serves different Indian dishes daily from 6-9 PM. It is located along Quimpo Boulevard, adjacent to Uncle Mark’s and Pan de Pogon.

"Expect more surprises to come. We will be offering more fish, goat and chicken Indian dishes, and of course, vegetarian food, beans, lentils, tofu and cottage cheese," my Tito Sunil added.

^^

Fun pics, Bong! Thanks for bringing the whole bunch of these nice people to the beautiful Davao.

Thanks sir @d.e. ^^

Won't ever hesitate to bring them again to our beloved place as it is one of the few places where we can be sure our guests will have an unforgettable and enjoyable experience.

They were all amazed in all aspects of Davao - the beach, jack's ridge, malls (yes, and even the malls particularly G-Mall) and the fruits and food!! They even already missed bangkerohan (where they personally saw how cheap all kinds of seafood is) and Taps (where they ate breakfast).

I hope to bring them to Davao again come August in time for the Kadayawan festival and experience Eden, S.E.Asia's longest zip line and white water rafting. :)

Based on the vicinity map found on this page (which I also got from the DWP Facebook page), the Davao Wakeboard Park will be located somewhere near Tugbok and Mintal (which is roughly 20 minutes away from Ulas, Davao City and 10 minutes from Calinan)

gwapo ang location.

Foreign firms park idle ships in Davao, Subic

By Roderick dela Cruz

A GROWING number of foreign shipping companies looking to cut costs amid a global slowdown in trade are laying up their ships in Philippine ports, maritime officials said yesterday.

The trend became apparent this year, Maritime Industry Authority Administrator Elena Bautista said, adding Philippine ports were attractive because of their wide bays.

The vessels could be parked for three to six months, she said, noting that Subic Bay was already full of ships that had been laid up.

The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority confirmed that 22 vessels there were waiting out the recession.

On Malalag Bay in Davao del Sur, Greek-flagged carrier ZIM Shipping Lines had laid up five of its ships, while an Israeli company planned to park 10 of its vessels on Pujada Bay, Bautista said.

The two bays in Davao can accommodate as many as 100 ships for a daily rate of $90 to $120 per vessel.

Philippine Ports Authority general manager Oscar Sevilla said one company was discussing its plan to lay up 10 vessels at the South Harbor in Manila Bay.

Sevilla said Cebu was already full of parked vessels.

But the slowdown in shipping has hurt Filipino seamen.

At the 5th Philippine Ports and Shipping Conference in Makati yesterday, Transport Secretary Leandro Mendoza acknowledged that hundreds of seamen had lost their jobs after shipping companies mothballed their ships to wait out the economic downturn.

Mendoza said the signs had become bleaker for the industry as more shipowners laying up their vessels in the face of a decline in global trade.

The Global Institute of Logistics said the Philippines was the leading supplier of seafarers in the international market, with 266,553 Filipinos deployed in international passenger and cargo vessels in 2007 alone.

Bautista announced that domestic shipping companies were bringing down their fares and cargo rates this week to reflect a drop in the price of bunker fuel.

She said Solid Shippine Lines, Lorenzo Shipping Corp., Sulpicio Lines Inc., NMC Container Lines, and Oceanic Shipping were cutting their bunker fuel charge by 19.67 percent.

Negros Navigation had also cut its cargo rates by 28.6 percent, Bautista said, while Aboitiz Transport had reduced passenger fares by 19.6 percent.

The shipping industry has suffered a decline in its cargo business amid t
he general slowdown and competition from airlines.

Tourism bill’s signing into law likely in March
02/14/2009 | 05:39 AM

MANILA, Philippines - A bill defining a national policy for tourism as an engine of investment and employment moved closer to becoming a law after getting the nod of the congressional bicameral conference committee.

Senate tourism committee chairman Richard Gordon vowed to have the bill ratified soonest so President Arroyo can sign it into law early March.

"This bill, when it becomes a law, will bring investments directly to our provinces and spur economic growth of unprecedented proportions there," he said in an article on the Senate website.
...
The bill seeks to declare a national policy for tourism as an engine of investment, employment, growth and national development.

The measure, once signed into law, establishes "tourism enterprise zones" in strategic areas, such as Cebu, Davao, Bohol, Laguna, Cavite, Boracay, Palawan and Iloilo, in the country to lure foreign investors and tourists to visit places rich with history and culture.

Gordon said the urgent passage of the measure will spur the creation of jobs and open additional channels for the infusion of the much-needed investments in the country's economy.

He added that the tourism bill would give people the power to pull themselves out of the vise of the economic recession that Filipinos are beginning to feel.

The word "davoh" should be where the name Davao originated from, an indigenous term meaning the place "beyond the high grounds"

PGMA to bring investment mission to Davao

Davao City (13 February) -- On her next visit to Davao City, President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo will be bringing an investment mission of overseas Chinese entrepreneurs interested in agri-business in an effort to promote Mindanao as an agri-business area.

The President will be joining the investors in a lunch at Pearl Farm at the Island Garden City of Samal and "I will bring them to various areas chosen by the Department of Agriculture to be a good place for investing livestock and aquaculture."

However, she wanted to make sure that agri-support infrastructure developments in the Davao Region will not be in conflict with the tourism plans for the Island Garden City of Samal.

The President will be bringing in the Chinese investors now that the Davao International Port development has been put in place and that the Davao roll-on, roll-off system has been set up.

President was in Davao City yesterday (Friday) to inaugurate the newly completed P400 million worth Davao Port expansion project and for the groundbreaking of the proposed P870 million Passenger Terminal Building project.

The P400 million port expansion project includes the construction of 3,179 square meter reinforced concrete wharf; 13,180 square meter back-up area, mooring and fendering area, drainage system, port lighting and rock works.

The Passenger Terminal Building project will include development of parking areas and a Ro-Ro ramp; a greeter building and a gate complex.

In a brief interaction with media practitioners, the President told them of the initial plans of the national government to establish a RoRo system from Davao to Samal to Lupon in Davao Oriental.

However, she said that "the best way to bring the traffic from the Southwestern Mindanao to the Davao International Port and the best route would be from Pantukan" (in Compostela Valley.)

Information sheets of the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Southern Mindanao Port District said that PPA has already completed the Davao Ro-Ro system related projects for possible lateral links which include the Babak port in Samal; Banay-Banay and San Isidro ports in Davao Oriental. (PIA)
