One of the web developers ng Imix.fm. They also have projects with firms from North America.

by the way, you can also refer to Global Davao's report about the IT industry.

dinabaw what is this David made out of? He is a good example of post modernism.... I saw the original David in Firenze Italy and I must say...when I am in Davao can we go and look at this David? I admire the real David in Firenze... this one.. Is it supposed to be a copy of David in Firenze, maybe not...Well, do you know the history behind this sculpture? Who made it for what purpose, monument, decoration, memory or is it a plane post modernistic peace of art? I am just curious how he ended up standing there? Truly he seems very out of place

Are you suggesting this David as a monument somewere?

Wishing you a nice Tuesday tomorrow, min allra bästa vän

Morining askling ,still awake?

Lena this a very poor copy of David in Florence , i will not tell you the(controversy) purpose of this statue , where it was put up and why ..lol

Sweden explores aid for Mindanao
By Bong S. Sarmiento

KORONADAL CITY -- Officials from Sweden have expressed intentions to pour in financial assistance to Mindanao in a bid to accelerate the growth of the island, it was learned Wednesday.

Presidential Assistant for Mindanao Jesus Dureza, chair of the Mindanao Economic Development Council (Medco), said the 10-man delegation from Sweden visited parts of Mindanao a few weeks ago and were briefed on the Mindanao situation and its peace and development initiatives.

The briefing was mainly based on the newly-formulated Mindanao Investment Program (MIP), which is a compilation of ongoing, committed and proposed priority programs and projects in Mindanao generated through a multi-stakeholder consultation, according to a Medco statement.

Dureza said he discussed with the delegation from Sweden Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sidca) the potential areas in Mindanao for future Swedish development assistance.

The delegation was headed by Jan Bjerninger, head of the Asia Department, and Minister Ulf Walden, deputy head of Mission of the Embassy of Sweden.

Dureza said the team also studied the project proposals compiled in the MIP and talked on how the Swedish government can be part of future development undertakings in Mindanao.

The group cited interest in projects that are in line with the Swedish country strategy for the Philippines, particularly those that are focused on poverty alleviation, environment, governance and human rights.

"The Mindanao Investment Program seems to be very interesting. We will look at how we can assist Mindanao in line with our strategic development thrusts for the Philippines," Walden said.

To show Mindanao as a viable destination for peace and development investment, Dureza led the group to a peace and development community in Barangay Tienda Aplaya, Digos City where former Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) rebels are actively engaged in a sandal manufacturing enterprise, with support from the GOP-UN Multi Donor Program Phase 3.

"This community is a concrete output of an effective government and donor partnership that has worked so well for the attainment of peace and progress in Mindanao," Dureza said.

"However, a lot of work still needs to be done in creating this kind of positive change in several other marginalized and conflict-affected communities in Mindanao," he added.

On the other hand, the Department of Interior and Local Government Region XI briefed the group on the status of the Mindanao Basic Urban Services Sector Project (MBUSSP).

Supported by Sidca, the Asian Development Bank and Nordic Development Fund, MBUSSP currently seeks additional funding for more collaborative projects in urban poor areas.

Earlier, Walden and Counsellor Anders Eriksson, regional coordinator for Technical Cooperation in the Embassy of Sweden visited the Davao River Watershed in Davao City to see how the government of Sweden can help rehabilitate and effectively manage the river.

Sweden is the first country to have launched a visit in Mindanao in response to the government's call for support on peace and development in Mindanao through the MIP.

hahaha ...reading sun-star Davao? maybe this really the start of Swedish invasion in Davao :wink2: Nice if Sweden can help Davao's watershed concern.

Davao's ICT sector still vibrant: trade department

THE regional office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Southern Mindanao stressed that Davao City's information and communications technology (ICT) sector is still very vibrant.

DTI regional director for Southern Mindanao Merly M. Cruz said such claim is evident in the desire shown by two United States-based call center companies to locate in the city.

Cruz added that the opening of two medical transcription (MT) schools recently is one more concrete indication of the industry's good performance. MT is another field in the ICT industry that has high potentials.

The opportunities in the ICT industry is enormous such that cyber services sector is expected to generate a total of 981,000 jobs and contribute US$11.7 billion in total revenue to the national economy by 2010, Cruz said.

"Davao Region alone is anticipated to rake in additional P1 billion in investments by 2010. Of this figure, 16,000 new jobs will be created," she said.

With the Davao Region Industry Cluster Plan, which is drafted and adopted by the Regional Development Council (RDC), Cruz is optimistic these targets will be attained.

The Davao Region Industry Cluster Plan serves as the roadmap for the eight priority sectors of the region, to wit: banana, mango, coconut, seaweed, wood, mining, eco-tourism, and ICT.

"In the plan, we can already get the necessary information that will help the concerned public and private stakeholders implement initiatives together in boosting the eight industries," she said.

Investors from China to put up VHT plants in Davao

Davao City (15 August) -- Two investors from China are contemplating to put up vapor heat treatment (VHT) plant separately in Davao to capture mango fruits for their Chinese consumers.

Ednar Carlos G. Dayanghirang, president and chair of Davao Region Mango Contractors Association (DAREMCA) in an interview said their entry to Davao is good for the mango growers even as he said that at this time they are quite wary that they could not fill in the capacity once all the VHTs within the region becomes fully operational.

With the two VHTs that may be put up by investors from Xiamen, China, the Davao region could now have five at the most, facilities that the mango producers could access to allow the Philippine mango to enter the international market.

He said that as this developed, they are also urging the expansion of mango farms but the ideal area that they are recommending are Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental and Samal City as these areas have ideal climate for mango growing.

Dayanghirang said they are eyeing the China and Korea markets because aside from the proximity of the place, the demand is quite big.

He said in HongKong alone, about 60 to 70 percent of mango fruits are shipped to mainland China.

"This is the market that we are pursuing - Korea and China," he said.

He said the investors are serious in putting up the facility but the problem is" can they meet the plant capacity?".

"This really is a favorable development to the farmers," he said.

He said unlike Japan, the China market requirements are not as stringent although they still want quality mangoes.

However, he said that they have to follow international standards to maintain quality of the product and have to comply with the minimum residue level (MRL) of pesticides applied to the fruit.

He also said that they have to persuade mango growers and producers to follow good agricultural practices (GAP) because consumers are becoming choosy.

Dayanghirang meanwhile said that they have to professionalize the industry including the sorters and harvesters.

"Because proper handling of the fruit would mean more yield and better quality," he said.

He said that during the two days national mango congress on August 15 and 16 in Davao City they are expecting the closing of business deals between the buyers and producers and firming up of new markets as well as forging agreements for new investments.

protected area should be imo. but the threat is connected siya sa matina. and matina is fast urbanizing. .

I proposed a project on that site before with an initial funding of P1 million. It is both for enviromental protection and tourism. Alam ng isang konsehal dyan at gusto nya ang project. The components, sana, are mangrove reforestation, visitors center for educational purpose (exhibit and lectures) and tourists reception with a cafe, sanctuary warden's quarters, board walk (on stilts using indigenous materials), strict protection area (off limits), and viewing area (or "close encounter" area).

I was able to get it listed and budgeted as one of the 2006 ecotourism projects for Region XI that also included several sites in Compostela Valley (Maragusan for the falls, Monkayo or Nabunturan for the caves, and New Bataan for mountaineering base camps and trekking area). Again, the bright boys in Manila don't believe in the value of ecotourism as a very powerful tool in protecting the environment, at isa-isang nalusaw sa listahan.

I aint sure if lil bro Ady001 had been to other metropolitan cities such as Metro Manila....Well if he had, I hope he'll remember how EDSA looks and feels like. Then compare it to our Mc Arthur Hi way where NCCC is situated.

And i think the perfect location is the lot between MTS and NCCC. Perfect and lot na yun para sa isang IT park diba? Dapat na rin sigurong paalisin ang surico jan diba? Industrial zone ba yan jan?

I think that's a good idea psionic. The area is slowly being built-up as a good call-center/industrial locale a la pryce towers. It's very wide. As of now, it's being made into a ring for paintball wars. :D

I think TJ mora gyog naa sila'y similarity. Firstly, SM puts the signage on the middle-entrance of the building. NCCC did that too. Second, SM had those space-saving advertisement-boxes. NCC has that too. Thirdly, there is a cubist influence in SM. NCCC is slightly "aerodynamic" cubist :D. And lastly, look at the rooftop entrance. Sm na SM! NCCC did that too!

Great... just great... and they didn't do that in NCCC Tagum.

I think Juna Subdivision would be a good place to have small IT buildings sprout up. Puwera bias, kay taga Juna ako, but for the past few years, wala nay nagatukod ug bag-ong mga balay didto. Mga commercial buildings na or apartment buildings. In the development of urban areas, residential areas that have stopped setting up houses are ripe for commercialization, just like the downtown of decades ago, and F. Torres Street more recently, for instance.

If this trend happens, Juna subdivision can look like Silicon Valley (http://www.ageekstour.com/prologue.html) where low 1-2 floor buildings of tech companies sit side by side with houses in a quiet suburb environment with lots of trees.

With 2 large malls nearby, it can easily be an attractive area for white-collar manpower-driven industries.

Furthermore, since the Ateneo Matina campus has started hosting Accounting and Business Management (I think), it wouldn't be far fetched for the CS/IT department to move there too. And then there's Women's too.

I think eco-tourism is much preferred concept when it comes to protecting environment than "resort type" tourism like coastal tourism which is degrading its natural landscape by building high rise hotel(look at Boracay now), disturbing the natural habitat of sea creatures and its landscape, because hotel owners prefer attractive sandy beaches ,estuaries and coastal lakes .In Eco-tourism the policy is preserving nature in its own state and habitat and that attracts "wealthy" nation who gives money to develop this area.Maybe Bagani your knocking on the wrong door.

‘Hiyas’ cancelled, search chair quits
By Barbara Carla R. Quiero

THE Kadayawan sa Dabaw Foundation, Inc. and the 12 finalists of the 2006 Hiyas sa Kadayawan contest decided not to push through with the pageant this year following an order from City Hall to eliminate the male contestants.

The cancellation came almost at the same time that Hiyas committee chair Oscar Casaysay quit, after being told by City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte not to include male contestants in the beauty contest.

Kadayawan Foundation Board member Id Acaylar said Integrated Gender and Development Division acting head Patricia Melizza B. Ruivivar told them the mayor has given them the same order.

As a result, instead of eliminating the male contestants, the whole search was cancelled.

Acaylar said it would be unfair to exclude the current three men aspirants of the Kadayawan contest as such is gender-free but they could also not defy the orders of Duterte, being the mayor and "father of the city."

"We will not defy the direction of the mayor but we don't also want to sacrifice our principles," Acaylar said during the Kapehan sa Dabaw press conference Monday.

Acaylar said the decision of the mayor may have been influenced by the comment of City Councilor Jesus Zozobrado, during last Tuesday's regular council session.

Zozobrado, during that session, said he had a nightmare Monday night where a man was crowned as the 2006 Hiyas ng Kadayawan and is the one receiving guests in the city.

"Maybe when the mayor heard such, he told Patmei to order the foundation to cancel male participation in the contest. I felt I was slapped that I am not allowed to receive visitors because only female can," Acaylar said.

It was Acaylar who said that Casaysay got the same order from the mayor.

"It's a difficult decision for us but it would be unfair for the male contestants and the designers who designed and prepared their costumes that they will no longer be included," Kristine Grace Maambong, spokesperson of the 12 Hiyas aspirants, said during the same press conference.

"We also want to conserve unity and oneness of celebration," she added.

Acaylar, however, said they will still hold the Urog Etnika contest, the twin-contest of the Hiyas ng Kadayawan.

Urog Etniko is a competition for fashion designers and floral artists for their creations. Under the contest are two major categories, the Fashion Designer's Competition and the Floral Arrangement Competition.

"Hiyas and Urog are combined contests, it is not a replacement, the Hiyas has to go and the Urog remains," he said.

The 12 former Hiyas aspirants will be tapped as the "Kadayawan Models" who will wear the creation of the designers in the Urog Etnika contest.

98% aliens comply Immigration’s I-Card in the Davao region

DAVAO CITY, Aug. 15 (PNA) - There has been an overwhelming response of foreigners getting an Immigration-Card (I-Card) at the Bureau of Immigration here in the Davao region.

"The response is very tremendous since there is no more advise from Manila to extend the deadline of getting an I-Card," BI regional alien control officer Benjamin Lao said.

Lao said with the issuance of I-Card ends Tuesday, at least 98 percent of foreigners have complied with the new BI policy to replace the old alien certificate of registration with a handy and hassle-free I-Card.

"We are expecting our office will not be as busy as compared to the past months because only those who are getting an extension visa and other matters are going to the immigration office," he said.

But he said immigration agents are still running after those illegal and overstaying foreigners who have yet to be located.

"I admit there are still many illegal foreigners here in our area and we ask the cooperation of the public to report to them immediately the presence of these aliens," he said. (lagot kayong mga TNT)

Lao said they deported two Japanese nationals after they were found to be staying here in the city without documents like alien certificate of registration.

He said from now on, they will be looking for an I-Card for each foreigner. Failure to show them to BI agents may result to their deportation and a fine of P50,000. (PNA)

City to host IP gathering

DAVAO City will be hosting the 6th gathering of the World Christian Gathering on Indigenous People from September 11 to 17.

Councilor Pilar C. Braga, during Tuesday's regular council session, said delegates of Indigenous tribes from Asia, United States, Canada, Scandanavia, Russia, Australia, and New Zealand will join and interact with the delegates from different ethnic minorities of the country.

"This week-long gathering of indigenous people from different continents of the world will provide a venue for cross-pollination of cultures with their best practices," Braga said.

She said the city will be able to showcase to the foreign delegates its rich culture and natural resources.

"One of the major industry is fishing were tuna fish and exotic seafoods share top billing status with the king of fruits -- the Durian," she said.

Braga said, in due time, she will pass a resolution in the City Council on the matter. (BRQ)

'Pasalamat' highlights rich diversity of city
By Barbara Carla R. Quiero

THE Kadayawan Festival Pasalamat Mass and Formal Opening Rites, held Tuesday afternoon at the San Pedro Church, highlighted the rich diversity of people living in Davao City harmoniously.

Councilor Susabel C. Reta, who chairs the Pasalamat committee, said the diversity in the city is manifested by the people who are not only coming from the different places and tribes in the country but are also "working for the good of Davao City."

"This unity in diversity is further reflected by the presence of the leaders of the various religious denominations in the city," Reta said.

Reta said it is only proper to hold the Pasalamat for the good fortune of the city.

She said events have been lined up to make the 21st Kadayawan sa Dabaw Festival, slated from August 14 to 20, meaningful.

Among the activities are Tingog Kadayawan, a concert at the Centennial Part held Monday night, Sayaw Mindanao at SM entertainment Plaza on Tuesday until Wednesday and Urog Etnika also on Wednesday still at SM entertainment Plaza.

Events that should never be missed by Dabawenyos includes the Indak-Indak sa Kadalanan, Halad Floral Float Parade and Lumadnong Kagikan at the Gaisano Mall of Davao.

Yeah of course.

However, with the other 2 stalwarts you mentioned, I have doubt with the other one because of his affinity to his place of origin. When I read his pronouncements I can't help but see thru them his biases.

Kadayawan ’06: DOT sees more potentials in Davao

Davao City (16 August) -- Department of Tourism (DOT) undersecretary Oscar Palabyab encouraged Dabawenyos to continue exploring and innovating to entice people to come because new things are happening in the city.

Palabyab who graced the opening of “Kaan-Dawet”, a street food fiesta along Roxas Avenue in Davao City in time for the weeklong Kadayawan Festival told organizer and city tourism head Id Acaylar there is nothing wrong if they copied the street festival of Iloilo’s Dinagyang Festival.

“There is nothing wrong when you copied something good and Iloilo won’t mind it because what you did could become a better event,” he said.

He said Davao City is blossoming into a real tourists destination and people come because you wanted them to come and you have make things happen to let people keep coming back.

He said tourists come because they want to eat, drink and be merry and events like Kadayawan is promoting tourism.

Meanwhile major sponsor San Miguel Corporation (SMC) of Kaan-Dawet closed a portion of Roxas Avenue dressed up the street with colorful bannerettes and huge parasol to shield over 100 booths used by Davao’s restaurants and fondly sought for eateries. The project was to provide partygoers a fiesta feel as they are entertained with homegrown bands and other famous bands in the country.

All subsidiaries of SMC pooled their resources to keep Kaan Dawet a major attraction of Kadayawan.

At the opening of the street festival on Monday, Coca-Cola Bottling Philippines president Roberto Huang during his message said that their company and SMC shall not hesitate to partner and support the programs of government.

Declaring Davao City as his second home next to Manila, Huang led the unveiling of “Coke Davao” Viaje na bottles where it features the various famous destinations of the region.

He said it is their way of promoting tourism even as he said they will continuously support efforts geared towards nation building.

The “Coke Davao” that comes in 8 ounces is sold in time for the Kadayawan Festival as a souvenir item from Davao City.

Mega regions in full blast, P200-M allocated for Mindanao
By Rose B. Palacio

Davao City (16 August) -- The mega regions created under the economic development plan of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo goes into full blast as the President has allocated an amount of P500-million every month all over the country of which P200-million will be spent for the Mindanao mega-region.

The Administration is allocating P500-million for farm-to-market roads all over the country every month to boost the implementation of mega regions throughout the country.

Up to P100-billion in government funding will be allocated annually, to be divided equally among the four economic regions to be invested in education, infrastructure, industrial development and social services to tap each region’s market potentials and attract foreign investment.

The President pointed out that the government is also allocating big chunks of the national budget to improve health services and the quality of education.

The President’s economic plan calls for the grouping of the country’s 16 regions into four economic regions or sub-economies that she said “goes beyond political boundaries and goes toward the direction of economic boundaries.”

These four economic regions were designated as North Luzon, Metro Luzon, Central Philippines and Mindanao.

North Luzon will be composed of the Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley and Cordillera Administrative region, and the provinces of Nueva Ecija and Aurora.

Metro Luzon will be made up of Central Luzon, Metro Manila and Calabarzon while the regions of Bicol, Mimaropa, Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas and Western Visayas will make up the Central Philippines.

The Mindanao mega-region will cover all the regions in the country’s second largest island.

The President also has identified one more sub-economy, “a fifth region that cuts across the length of the four mega regions. From Baguio city in the North to Davao City in the south that shall be known as the cyber corridor which would cover the centers of information and communications technology or ICT and the business process outsourcing industry.

The President said the idea of grouping the regions into economies is to capitalize on the “natural competitive advantage” of each distinct geographical region.

The 12 former Hiyas aspirants will be tapped as the "Kadayawan Models" who will wear the creation of the designers in the Urog Etnika contest.

wawa naman si Id!

But in defense of Duterte, I think the Kadayawan should have the "spirit" of Davao. And it should have the "lumads." I think they also slipped from there also.

Id should learn from the mistakes a year ago, when the Hiyas were teased as "all beauty no brains," and "a fashion show." No offense to Id, he did his job, but dapat di ta maglihis sa atong orihinal na tumong.

Pabili naman ng Coke Davao!

Nakayama Technology Corp poured its initial investment in Davao which reached reached P4.1 billion.

NTC Complex in Digos City, Davao occupies a total of 70,000 sq.m for its operation with more than 1,100 employees.

Nakayama Technology Corp. (NTC) has taken advantage of information technology (IT) to provide value-added services to its clients.

NTC provides free digital preview services to capture the customer’s vision of the home or building, which will be built using NTC’s pre-fabricated wall panel system.

IT firm

The digital imaging will be conducted through the company’s IT service firm, Computer Graphics Center.

NTC manufactures high performance brick and granite insulated wall panels for Japan and other Asian markets. The company relocated its manufacturing plant in Japan to Davao three years ago.

The Computer Graphics Center is equipped with the latest technology in three dimensional (3D) engineering design.

If you guys happen to pass by Digos City Diversion Road (Digos' Industrial Area) you would be awed by the size of the Nakayama Complex. It's really a breath of fresh air in Digos' business atmosphere. I met these Japanese guys with his charming Davaoena wife a few years back in one of Digos' restaurants which they owned.

Bai Junax, the picture above is of the Davao Medical School Foundation Hospital-the latest addition to Davao's bevy of high-end medical facilities. This is funded by Ateneo, and will seve as a training facility as well for its nursing students. The rumor mills had it that ADDU will finally break away from the consorium (San Pedro College and HOspital, BrokenShire College and Hospital, Davao Doctors' College and Hospital and ADDU) and take sole ownership of the DMSH. Their sole authority in running the DMSF Hospital is an initial move in the transition process. Heard it from the grapevine!

Reply to Silicon's Request. These are pics of Canada Place (5 Sails) in Vancouver- my second home. Canada place hosted the 1986 Commonwealth Federation Summit in time for its opening. Perfect place in Davao for a structure similar to this would be in Times Beach, Proposed Marina Complex in Sta. Ana Pier or Samal Island.

Sweden to join peace monitors in Mindanao
By Ben O. Tesiorna

SWEDEN will join the Malaysian-led International Monitoring Team (IMT)
in Mindanao soon.

IMT is tasked to maintain the cessation of hostilities between Moro
Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and the government forces.

Arroyo Watch: Sun.Star blog on President Arroyo

But, MILF spokesman Eid Kabalu Monday said nothing is definite yet as
to
the inclusion of Sweden in the IMT.

He confirmed though that Sweden had long expressed their interest in
joining the IMT in Mindanao.

Sweden, in case it finally decides so, would be the second non-Muslim
country to join the IMT.

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Azo announced during a visit in Manila
last July 23 that Japan has decided to join the IMT in its
socio-economic monitoring function.

Japan will send representative to the IMT in Cotabato City where its
headquarters is located. Aside from Japan and Sweden, the United States
of
America is said to be interested in joining the IMT as well.

Kabalu revealed that US Institute for Peace executive director Eugene
Martin met with MILF chair Ebrahim Murad and expressed their support on
the peace process.

With the coming in of Japan and Sweden, the number of member states to
the IMT swelled to five including Malaysia, Brunei, and Libya.

But its composition will still stay at 60 with Malaysia having the
largest personnel at 41. Brunei has 10, Libya, 7, and Japan and Sweden
one each.

In May this year, Sweden had sponsored a three-day round-table
discussion on post conflict resolutions at the MILF Peace Panel office
in Darapanan Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao.

Sweden is also involved in the peace process in Sri Lanka and Aceh in
Indonesia.

^^ good morning world!

http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f142/kododoy/davaomedical.jpg

Bai Junax, the picture above is of the Davao Medical School Foundation Hospital-the latest addition to Davao's bevy of high-end medical facilities. This is funded by Ateneo, and will seve as a training facility as well for its nursing students. The rumor mills had it that ADDU will finally break away from the consorium (San Pedro College and HOspital, BrokenShire College and Hospital, Davao Doctors' College and Hospital and ADDU) and take sole ownership of the DMSH. Their sole authority in running the DMSF Hospital is an initial move in the transition process. Heard it from the grapevine!

oi! tama no... my bad, davaomedical.jpg man gud ang filename from google, that's why instantly pag tuo nako DMC. tnx for the correction. btw, naa diay plano i change ang name sa DMC into Southern Philippines Medical Center, 2003 pa ata gi conceive, i just don't know kung unsa nay update.
