davaoeagle February 2nd, 2011, 09:52 PM ONB to spend P300-M for 10 branches this year: Alex (http://www.mindanaotimes.net/?p=17078)
Written by: Francisco , Carmelito Q.
Wednesday, 02 February 2011
ONE Network Bank, considered one of the biggest rural banks in the country, is spending P300 million for its branching plan this year as it starts branching out in the Visayas.
The bank, said Alex V. Buenaventura, its president, will spend P150 million for the 10 branches that it is setting up, including those five in the Visayas and one in Makati City as the bank is spending the average of P15 million for a branch, depending on the location of the area.
The remaining half of the amount will be the capital of the branches, he explained during the forum here, pointing out that the bank has decided to set up a branch in Makati City as the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas has allowed rural banks to set up branches in the country’s central business district, Buenaventura said.
This developed as the the branches will allow the bank to widen its reach and that many of them, particularly those in areas where prices of agricultural products have increased tremendously, have been awash with cash. For example, branches in Davao Oriental have high deposit rates considering that prices of copra, the main product of the province, have gone as high as P55 a kilogram from just about P40 a kilogram last year.
Last year, the bank increased its deposit by 37% to P9.428 billion from P6.887 billion in 2009.
The bank already has 81 branches at present, all in Mindanao even as it will concentrate on serving areas considered as underbanked or unbanked.
This year, aside from the one in Makati City and the five branches in the Visayas, the bank will set up branches in Sangali, Zamboanga City; Baganga, Davao Oriental; JC Aquino St., Butuan City; and Esperanza, Sultan Kudarat.
Even when some small rural banks have closed down, the bank had decided to set up branches because “the capital expenditures are cheaper,” Buenaventura said.
“There is no more incentive for buying (smaller rural banks) because you can just apply for new licenses licenses,” he explained as the bank only pays P125,000 for a license and that the central bank has already lifted the moratorium on the setting up of branches.
He said the bank will buy “more accessible locations” in areas where it will locate.
He said the bank has yet to finalize the areas for its branches in the Visayas considering that a team that it sent to the areas has yet to finalize its evaluation.
Its Makati branch, he added, will serve the banking need of the Consunji group, one of the primary owners of the bank considering that its branch will even be located in the building of the Consunji company.
davaoeagle February 2nd, 2011, 09:54 PM Hedcor Inc. to present new proposal for Tamugan plant (http://www.mindanaotimes.net/?p=17039)
Written by: Fusilero , Kristianne
Wednesday, 02 February 2011
THE Aboitiz-owned Hedcor Inc. will submit its new design proposal to the city council to tap Tamugan River incorporating the recommendations of the Davao City Water District under their compromise agreement.
Rene Ronquillo, president and chief operating officer of Hedcor, Inc., said during the press conference at D’ Leonor Hotel yesterday they plan to present the proposal in September or October this year. Under the new design, the power generation level will be reduced to 11 megawatts from the original 27.5 megawatts.
“We hope the lawmakers will reconsider our proposal,” he said, adding that the project could help avert power shortage in the future.
In December 2009, the 15th city council earlier junked the proposal of Hedcor for violating the Davao Watershed Code and the conditions of the water utility firm to build the plant 400 meters below sea level. The power firm then presented a new scheme such as reducing the generation level and considering the recommendations of the DCWD.
The power firm and the DCWD signed a compromise agreement on March 25, 2010, on the principle that they will both share access on the Tamugan River.
The compromise agreement provides that the DCWD will continue to construct its infiltration gallery at 392 meters above sea level and with Hedcor’s plant below it, the DCWD will have first use of the river which it said is important to ensure a steady supply of drinking water for Davao City. “Hedcor’s existing diversion structure, which is currently diverting the flow of Panigan River to Talomo River, shall continue to operate; but in no case shall it be expanded and enlarged that will result in the increase of the amount flow to be diverted,” the agreement cited.
Meanwhile, Ronquillo said they would consult soon with the stakeholders surrounding the project.
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio earlier said the watershed code will not be amended during her term. She said she was against the plan to utilize the rivers as source of power because potable water is more important that electricity
“I still choose water over electricity. Even if the next city council and the vice mayor might consider amending the watershed code, the decision on whether or not to approve it still lies on me,” she said.
Not the cause
HEDCOR clarified reports on being the cause of flooding in Darong, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur that resulted death and major damages.
Due to fatalities and flashfloods that affected 810 families, Hedcor called for a press conference to deny the allegations that one of their pipelines broke and was the major cause of the floods.
“None of our pipelines broke, and we continue to operate, and even if our pipelines broke we could not cause any flooding because our pipes only carry 13 cubic meters while the flood is 518 cubic meters,” he added.
Ronquillo also denied releasing water on the event of flooding in Darong, Sta Cruz. He said that Sibulan Hydropower plant is a small dam, a run-of-river hydroelectric plant that doesn’t store water.
“In Sibulan it is a weir, a small dam, it cannot store the water up on it, and we don’t have big gates to open. So when there is a water in the floods, the rest of the water will just go inside, and we can’t control the water it just goes over,” he explained.
He also explained that Hedcor’s Hydroelectric Power Plant is being surrounded by rivers and creeks, particularly the Baroring River, Sibulan River, Tumari Creek, Balangan Creek, and Balacatan Creek, and that the waters coming from those creeks go down to one river, the Sibulan River, which overflowed.
Ronquillo said they wanted to clarify things because they are planning to put up more plants that are similar to the Sibulan Hydro Electric Power Plant in the next four or five years.
He also identified some areas of their proposed power plants including Tamugan, Bukidnon, Davao del Norte, and Compostella Valley. He also said that they are now working on the necessary permits with the indigenous people through their tribal leaders and local government units.(WITH REPORT BY CHRISTY CASILAGAN)
davaoeagle February 2nd, 2011, 09:56 PM Chinese New Year’s Eve Dinner: Most important meal of the year (http://www.mindanaotimes.net/?p=17083)
Written by: Ruivivar , Patmei Bello-
Wednesday, 02 February 2011
TONIGHT will be a big night for our Chinese community in Davao City as they gather their families together for New Year’s Eve reunion dinner. This dinner is the biggest dinner of the year for Chinese families the same way Thanksgiving dinners are a big deal to American families. It is usually held in the home of the most senior member of the family. Nowadays, most modern Chinese families celebrate it in restaurants.
It is believed that the family who does not share this all-important meal of the year, the family’s love will grow cold. The dinner begins only after all the family members are present at the table. A table setting is placed for those unable to come home for dinner on this day to symbolize their presence even though they are far away. This is also the time when family issues are resolved or set aside.
Ancestors are remembered and honored during this special dinner. Food is offered at the family altar for them. It is not just a sign of respect for the elders but also a way of giving thanks. It is believed that the wellness of the ancestors reflects on the family fortune.
For the Chinese, being full is the ultimate sign of wellness and eating together is a sign of affection. So a typical Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner is abundant – usually eight (symbolizing prosperity) to nine (symbolizing longevity) dishes. The Chinese believe that having an excess of food on the table symbolizes good fortune for the New Year, as it would bring excess wealth. Eating good food is also believed to promote harmony and closeness between family and friends.
Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner is best eaten slowly, taking the time to savor each dish. All utensils and plates should be clean and unbroken. Even a small chip on a plate is not allowed because it will signify that something will eat into the family fortune. Chopsticks should also be of equal length to represent harmony.
The usual dishes served during Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner are also full of symbolism revolving around the theme of abundance, health, and happiness. Some of them are:
• Bird’s Nest Soup for long life and youthfulness and Shark’s Fin Soup for prosperity
• Jai Choy is a special vegetable dish that symbolizes good fortune, long life, and abundance. It has dried oysters for good business, sea moss called fat chot for prosperity, Chinese black mushrooms for granting of wishes, bean noodles for long life, lily buds for 100 years of blissful union, lotus seeds to have sons, dried bean curd for abundance, cloud ears for good luck, and snow peas for prosperity
• Any dish with lettuce because the Chinese word for lettuce sounds like “growing good fortunes”
• Lobster represents life and energy while clams and scallops are shaped like ancient Chinese coins
• Spring rolls are shaped like ancient Chinese money symbolizing wealth for the new year
• Dumplings are also shaped like ancient Chinese coins and families usually cook them at late in the evening till midnight to usher in good fortune into the new year
• Duck or Chicken are served whole with head and feet to symbolize unity and wholeness. Missing body parts mean it is broken. It also symbolizes a proper beginning and ending to the year.
• Long, leafy green vegetables such as Chinese broccoli and string beans are served whole to bring longevity to parents
• Rice symbolizes well-being and good fortune
• Noodles are long and uncut for long life
• Fish is an important dish in this special dinner because in Chinese it is “yu”
which sounds like abundance. This dish is often served last. The head and tail should not be removed from the body to ensure good luck and togetherness throughout the year. The fish should not be flipped over because according to an old fisherfolk belief, flipping the fish over will also flip the fishing boats.
• Chinese New Year cakes such as “Nian Gao” or “Tikoy” for Filipino-Chinese. Its Chinese pronunciation sounds like “for a more prosperous year”.
• Sesame balls which start out very small but expands when cooked so it is believed that if you eat them, your fortunes will also expand. The stickiness of the balls also represents family cohesiveness.
You need not be of Chinese descent to have your own Chinese New Year’s Eve dinner at home or at a Chinese restaurant. Who does not like to eat the above dishes anytime of the year, right? And if you are fortunate enough to have Chinese friends or in-laws who invite you to share in their family reunion feast, now you know what the food you’re eating stands for. As for me, I am just waiting to be invited (hint, hint). Kung Hei Fat Choi!

Air Routes Linking BSB, Philippine Cities Good For Eaga
Written by Sally Piri Wednesday, 02 February 2011 06:10
Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei Darussalam and the Philippines can work closely together in pushing for wider transport connectivity in Bimp-Eaga through new initiatives such as an Asean roll-on roll-off (Roro) network and air routes from Bandar to Philippine destinations other than Manila.
These are initiatives where the two countries can possibly pursue in improving Asean connectivity, said Celeste Vinzon-Balatbat, charge d'affaires at the Philippine Embassy in Brunei.
In an interview with The Brunei Times, she talked about "the potential benefits of providing air transport services beyond the Manila-Bandar Seri Begawan route".
Expanding air transport is one potential regional cooperation that Brunei and the Philippines can work on, she added.
She cited an example the possibility of opening direct routes from Bandar Seri Begawan to Davao City and General Santos City, giving efficient access to fruit commodities and tuna fish products, in these Philippine cities, respectively.
"Brunei can support efforts to link Asean (country members) not only by land but also by sea, in the master plan on Asean connectivity," said Balatbat, who has been posted in Brunei since July 29, 2008.
Brunei and the Philippines are part of the East Asean Growth Area (Bimp-Eaga), which was launched in Davao City, Philippines in 1994. Bimp-Eaga is an initiative of the national governments of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines to close the development gap across and within the Eaga member countries as well as across the Asean member states.
Bimp-Eaga's roadmap focuses on the promotion of trade, tourism and investments as a strategy for attaining the sub-region's objectives.
In this regard, Balatbat said the Philippine government has an intention to help establish an Asean Roro network system as part of efforts to facilitate trade, tourism, and investment flows within BimpEaga.
"The Philippines, for instance, shall take the lead in conducting a feasibility study (on) Roro network and short-sea shipping - the first step towards establishing an Asean Roro system," she said.
The Philippines and Brunei established diplomatic relations in 1984. They have since developed bilateral cooperation in several areas including trade and investment, agriculture, education, defence and tourism.
The Philippines has also been actively assisting Brunei in attaining its goal for rice self sufficiency since 2009. It has been sending its agriculture technical experts from the Philippines Rice Research Institute (PhilRice) to Brunei, providing training courses as well as assisting in the establishment of the Brunei Rice Farmers Field School that was launched in June 2010. -- Courtesy of The Brunei Times

More hydropower investments in the region 11 bared
DAVAO CITY, Feb. 2- More hydroelectric power plants are being planned to be built in southern Mindanao to augment current power capacity in the region.
Hedcor Inc. a subsidiary of Aboitiz Power is planning to build new power plants in Tudaya, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur, Talaingod in Davao del Norte, New Bataan in Compostela Valley, Kitaotao in Bukidnon.
These plans were barred by Rene Ronquillo president and chief operations officer of Hedcor during his guesting at the Club 888 media forum in Marco Polo Davao held today.
Also included in the plans is the new Tamugan hydroelectric power plant which was born out of a compromise agreement with the Davao City Water District (DCWD).
The DCWD and HedCor were locked in conflict over the location of the then-proposed 16-megawatt power plants.
According to Rene Ronquillo part of the compromise agreement would be that the hydropower plant would be located within 320 feet above sea level which is below the identified watershed recharge zone.
Another compromise was that Hedcor would no longer divert water from Talomo River as originally planned.
The new design has reduced the proposed capacity of the plant to only 11 megawatt.
The proposed Tudaya plants would augment the capacity of the nearby Sibulan power plants with an added 15.5 megawatt capacity.
Ronquillo said they have processed FPIC (Free Prior and Informed Consent) among the indigenous peoples in the area. The document is awaiting the approvial of the National Commission for the Indigenous Peoples (NCIP). Ronquillo said they would still need 20 more permits for the project to push through. Ronquillo said he expects the project to be running within 16 months time.
Other projects include New Bataan hydroelectric plants which has a planned capacity of 20 megawatt, the 30 megawatt planned Kitaotao hydroplant is also entering initial stages of exploration.
Ronquillo said the Talaingod power plant is still in the planning stages.
The Regional Development Council has long espoused investment in power generation industry. With a projected economic growth of 4 to 6 % the region needs new power plants to meet anticipated demands for power. (PIA/RG Alama)

A grander lunar new year for Davao Chinatown
DAVAO CITY, Feb. 2 (PIA) --The Davao City Chinatown Development Council is pushing for a grander Chinatown which could be marketed as a tourism product.
Yesterday, the Davao Chinatown held a one-day Mini-Chinese village showcase at the Davao Central High School more popularly known as the Davao Chinese School, as part of the preparation for celebration of the Chinese New Year.
The Chinese village featured a traditional Chinese village set-up complete with props, costumed people and displays of Chinese goods and delicacies. Stalls selling Chinese food, a wushu exhibition, and a mahjong tournament were also presented in the event.
A specially-prepared audio-visual presentation that will simulate pyrotechnics and firecrackers will be presented to mark the onset of Chinese New Year.
This event is the “salubong” before the start of the Chinese New Year this February 3, Jasper Huang, coordinator of the festival said. Huang added that they are expecting 3,000 visitors to flock to the area.
The Chinese festival is a major initiative to make Davao Chinatown as a known tourism attraction in the city.
Other planned activities in the festival include a horse-riding display, motorcycle races and a foam party.
On the Chinese New Year itself the council will conduct a Chinese temple tour where visitors can visit various Chinese temples within the peripheries of Chinatown. It will culminate at the Lon Hua temple in Cabaguio where traditional Chinese misua is prepared for the guests.
Meanwhile Art Boncato Department of Tourism-XI Regional Director said that they are pushing for the Davao Chinatown as a product that can be marketed to tourists.
With the anticipated advent of open-skies policies the region is in need of world-class international standard tourism products to attract more visitors and provide necessary traffic for international airlines to consider Davao as a sustainable market. (PIA/RG Alama)

Coastal netting project in Davao initiated
DAVAO CITY, Feb. 1 -- A public-private partnership is underway to provide a netting system around coastal communities that will prevent garbage from houses and waterways reaching Davao Gulf.
These nets made of propylene are being donated by private individuals led by businessman Sonny Dizon who is the proponent of the project.
“Everybody who is affected by the dirt coming from coastal settlers and waterways are donating these nets.” Dizon said.
Majority of the initial donors to the program were resort owners led by Dizon who owns Maxima Aqua Fun, Julie Rodriguez of Paradise Island Park Beach Resort and Toshi Ozonawa of Kembali Coast all located in the Island Garden City of Samal.
Dizon estimates that about 10 kilometres of 2-inch nets would be needed to effectively put up a netting system around heavily populated coastal communities in the city.
About 300 meters of nets were initially donated by private individuals. These were turned over the City Mayor in simple ceremonies held at the City Hall last Monday (Jan.31)
The nets are placed between the posts of stilt houses two to three meters above ground. During field trials with the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) in barangay Agdao the nets registered an efficiency rating of about 80%.
Also during experiment conducted with the nets clogging garbage under their houses, the residents in turn asked for sacks so as to gather the wastes themselves.
In the past resident won’t mind throwing their garbage since they would just float towards the gulf.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said that in this public-private partnership the City and the local barangay would be the ones who would install, maintain and clean the garbage from the nets while the private sector will provide the nets and the technical expertise in installing it.
“The netting will contain the garbage from the settlers and those coming from the waterways, it is easier to clean and will lessen pollution.” Duterte said of the project.
She said the project will be piloted in Isla Verde and Boulevard. (PIA/RG Alama)

Hedcor to put up new power plant in Sta. Cruz (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/davao/business/hedcor-put-new-power-plant-sta-cruz)
A 15-MEGAWATT power plant worth P2.5 billion is set to be put up by Hedcor group under a different name in Tudaya, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur.
Hedcor Tudaya Inc. (HTI), which is under a different financing Bank, is expected to be completed after 16 months.
HTI still needs to comply with 20 documentary requirements before they will start the project.
Engineer Rene Ronquillo, president of Hedcor Inc., during Wednesday's Club 888 at the Marco Polo Davao, said, "We need first to comply with all the necessary permits before starting the construction to avoid what had happened with the Hedcor Sibulan Hydropower plant."
Hedcor Sibulan has already spent around P50-P60 million in constructing the plant for their previous project at the Hedcor Sibulan, but the entire operation was temporarily halted due to some problems with documentation requirements and environmental compliance issue.
There would be two power plants--one located in the lower area while the other will be positioned in the upper part of the site.
Ronquillo said the construction will not take that long since they had already constructed the access road going to the lower plant from the main road.
Apart from this, they have been negotiating with different sectors in potential areas of hydropower plants like in Surigao, Compostela Valley, and a portion of Davao Oriental. (Jereco O. Paloma)

"The households should also help. Bisan pa man og grabe na ang pagpanglimpyo sa mga kanal pero andiyan pa rin nakabara tungod sa bisan asa nga paglabay sa basura, wala din yung effort," ni Alabado niadtong Lunes sa Kapehan sa Dabaw.
Aminado ang opisyal nga tungod sa di na haum nga drainage system sa siyudad lauman nga sa sunod-sunod nga pagbunok sa uwan lunupan dayon ang pipila ka bahin dinhi.
"Meron ng mga on-going proposals on how to address the problems ng flooding sa city, pero siyempre tayo we want a solution na long-term talaga. Dilang yung good for how many years lang. The city government is on the process of reviewing sa mga suggestions kun unsa gyud ang maayo," sumala sa opisyal.
"Pag long-term na solusyon mahal, it will cost billions gyud. The city engineering has its 'engineering solution' di natin niya pinapabayaan, we are addressing that problem, we just want to ask the patience ng tao, naningkamot me to solve it," dugang ni Alabado.
(ROG)

A warm welcome at new Zakoya (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/davao/lifestyle/warm-welcome-new-zakoya)
ANY Dabawenyo who loves Japanese food knows that Zakoya Japanese Restaurant is among the best in town.
After a short hiatus, now Zakoya comes back with a vengeance so to speak, with 35 different dishes and 12 different kinds of sushi in their menu.
One unique feature of the restaurant, which opened back in 2005, is that the owner is the hands-on chef.
Masaki Yokoga, fondly called Bochok by his Pinoy friends, tastes all the dishes that come out of the kitchen to ensure of the same quality and flavor.
"I make sure that every dish is the way it should be," Yokoga says in a recent interview.
Mr. Yokoga started business in the city after managing different restaurants in Japan for five years.
He says his hobby is really cooking and that Japanese food is expensive because the ingredients are all imported.
Several changes are evident in the newly renovated Zakoya Restaurant.
"It has a different concept and we have introduced a buffet steak dinner," Yokoga says.
The restaurant also serves ala carte Japanese dishes for apart from the lavish buffet tables.
Another new dish is the salmon sushi, with the fish imported direct from Japan. And who could ever forget of Zakoya's homemade ice cream, a delectable blend of creamy goodness made only from fresh fruits.
Yokoga says they are also set to introduce Yakiniko, a Japanese dish of thin slices of beef grilled to suit one's taste.
The menu is rotated constantly and they offer a new and exciting dish occasionally.
The restaurant is cooking up an exciting menu for Valentine's Day when they will be serving more salmon dishes, more sushi dishes and beef steak buffet.
The renovated place is also set to house a Japanese grocery, with authentic spices and other products that have competitive prices compared to other malls.
Asked what "Zakoya" means in Japanese, Yokoga says it means small kitten and the huge billboard outside the restaurant means welcome.
The restaurant also offers different promo rates like the Barkada Buffet good for groups of six, 12, 18 or 24.
Sushi and Salad Buffet. Diners also enjoy 50 percent discount in all the food starting 8:30 p.m. every night from Monday to Sunday. Senior citizens avail of P100 off in the buffet every Wednesday while on Sundays and holidays, children below eight years old are free of charge with a maximum of two children per family.
Zakoya, located at Door 3, Davcon Autoville Bldg. along F. Torres Street, Davao City with telephone numbers 227-7760, opens daily from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. then at 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.

BY JUDY QUIROS
International Alert, a partner of Alternative Forum For Research Mindanao (AFRIM), will enter into a pact with Mindanao Business Council (MinBC), Mindanao Energy and Power Alliance (MEPA), and the United Kingdom (UK) to promote inclusive and conflict-sensitive business conduct in the Philippines.
The signing of memorandum of understanding will take place on Monday, February 7, at The Marco Polo, Davao.
The UK will be represented by British Ambassador Stephen Lilie.
In a statement, AFRIM said the MOU signing will strengthen previous partnerships in addressing “red flags” or a set of national and international liability risks to certain companies in areas of crisis and conflict.
International Alert and MinBC are institutional partners in the promotion of conflict-sensitive business, sustainable and responsible investments, and an inclusive political economy in Mindanao.
MinBC and Alert, together with other peace builders from various regions in Mindanao, meet regularly as a Mindanao Multi-stakeholders Group (MMG) to analyse political, social, and economic dimensions of conflict and underdevelopment in Mindanao.
The analysis is then used to provide inputs into advocacies of MMG members and its networks.
MEPA is a Mindanao-wide alliance of energy generation, distribution, and transmission companies supported by business organisations, and with strong links to the government.
Inclusive and conflict sensitive business conduct prefers to extractive, energy, and agribusiness companies in rural areas across the Philippines.
AFRIM said these will create both opportunities and risks for improving the living standards of the poor and excluded in our society and the ability of local authorities to govern local economies.
The opportunities to land new jobs, learn new skills, and engage in new livelihoods, and for local government units (LGUs) to enhance their revenue sources are some of the economic dividends that can emerge from the entry of these investments, AFRIM said.
The MOU will serve as first step in the development of partnerships between local communities, local and national government, and private sector firms in inclusive and conflict sensitive economic governance, AFRIM said.

rodincouch February 3rd, 2011, 04:57 AM Another SOS Children’s Village to rise in Mindanao (http://mindanews.com/main/2011/02/03/another-sos-children%E2%80%99s-village-to-rise-in-mindanao/)
By Mindanews | Thursday| February 3, 2011 | Filed under: Top Stories
DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/2 Feb) – Another SOS Children’s Village would likely rise in Mindanao anytime soon.
This was what Helmut Kutin, president of the SOS Children’s Villages International, indicated during a visit of the group’s largest village in the Philippines situated in this city.
Kutin said it could be another village, “or probably more services to more children in Mindanao.”
The group has only one village in Mindanao, the one in Lanang. Seven others are in Luzon (in Lipa in Batangas, in Bataan and in Manila) and in the Visayas (in Tacloban in Leyte, Calbayog in Eastern Samar, in Cebu City and in Iloilo City).
The SOS villages in the Philippines are part of the network of villages established for abandoned and orphaned children in 132 countries.
Kutin made his announcement during a speech with SOS employees, after he expressed satisfaction at the performance of the village here. Kutin came from a similar visit to Thailand.
The SOS Village here is the largest operation in the country, housing 190 orphaned and abandoned children in 14 family houses. Each family house is managed by a surrogate mother who avowed to remain single and to devote herself only to rearing and raising the children under normal “big family” atmosphere, said Noel Tanucan, the SOS Village educator.
Leonilo N. Rivero, 37, himself a product of the SOS Village and currently the Davao director, said the village has established a community program for poor families. “Poverty is often the impulse of having these children abandoned, or orphaned. So, why wait for families to disintegrate before you extend assistance?” he stressed.
The SOS has been providing livelihood assistance to 215 families, with 624 dependent children.
The SOS was established in the Philippines 43 years ago, and the Davao village was put up 13 years later, in a land that was donated by the Archdiocese of Davao. Rivero said however that the SOS Villages Philippines is non-religious “although it so happened that all our children here are Catholics”.
“We are also present in many Islamic countries providing family-based care program and family strengthening program,” he pointed out.
Kutin said that the Philippine program was the inspiration behind the putting up of SOS Villages in mainland China, where 10 villages were already established and performing well. Vietnam also sent its key personnel to be trained here and later also established their own villages to cater to the children orphaned by war.
The SOS Villages took care of selected orphaned and abandoned children to be developed under a family-based care program. “They live, they develop, they quarrel, they fight, they play just like in any family setting,” Rivero said.
“The mother takes care of the family matter, and each one big family budgets its own resources provided by the program. Children also go to different schools of their liking or their capacity,” he said.
The SOS Villages were also the pioneer in child-protection program, Rivero said, a key pillar that was being observed in training the qualified surrogate mothers to handle a household. “She is not allowed to inflict physical nor psychological abuse on children, and any hint in her attitude prior to the selection process would already take her out of the program,” he added.
Teresita Tuble, 54, one of such 14 mothers in the village, spoke highly of three of her wards, all siblings. “Natalie Nicole, 3, the youngest thumbsucks, a sign of insecurity,” she said. Nicole’s two brothers, Hans Andre, 6, and John Marlow, 7, playfully looked at their pictures taken from a point-and-shoot camera.
“She [Nicole] just sucks her thumb, unmindful of the quarrels of the other children, until she sleeps,” Tuble said.
The children used to sleep at a dirty corner of Bankerohan market, covered only by carton boxes. They earlier made the vicinity of the People’s Park their little sleeping corner but were later disallowed by park personnel.
In 2008, they were taken in by the SOS program.
Rivero said the children would be under the care of the surrogate mother until they reach the age of 14 for boys, and 16 for girls, when they would be transferred to separate facilities. The facility for boys and the facility for girls would resemble a dormitory where they would still be visited by a facilitator to monitor their development.
The facilities would serve as their transition toward independent living in a boarding house or private dormitory, at the age of 18, when they would be studying for college. “They would still be assisted financially and morally until they graduate from college,” said Rivero.
So far, the Davao village has produced engineers and teachers, including one doctor currently assigned in a district hospital in Mati, Davao Oriental. “Many have become OFWs [overseas Filipino workers]: seamen, workers. We have also produced guidance counselors, and a dean of the information and technology unit of a school here,” Rivero proudly says of their former wards.
Kutin said that the satisfaction he derived from serving the SOS Villages International was also the same degree of gratitude that he would be giving back after he himself was also cared and molded by the same program in Austria.
“There’s no deeper sense of fulfillment than seeing these orphaned and abandoned children grow up in normal family atmosphere and charting their own course when they become adults,” he said.
During his visit, the city government also bestowed on him the honor of being an “Adopted Son of Davao City”.
“I share this honor to the people in the SOS Village. To them this honor belongs for the kind of work they have done to these children,” he said. (MindaNews)

Davao pushes cacao, coffee and rubber (http://mindanews.com/main/2011/02/03/davao-pushes-cacao-coffee-and-rubber/)
By Mindanews | Thursday| February 3, 2011 | Filed under: Business, Top Stories
DAVAO CITY (MindaNews/2 Feb) – This city is pushing for more production of cacao, coffee and rubber, allocating thousands of hectares for these agricultural produce because of market opportunity.
City agriculture officer Leonardo Avila III said cacao needed the biggest land area, and the city intends to aggregate at least 1,000 hectares per year to satisfy the huge market demand of CocoaPhil Foundation, its partner in developing the supply from here.
CocoaPhil, which processes the crop into fermented cocoa, offered to buy local production of cacao.
Cacao development would also need to train farmers on nursery development, planting and grafting, and fermentation as well to fetch a higher price, Avila said.
Cacao production was mainly done in Talandang, Calinan district, more than 50 kilometers northwest of downtown.
Avila said they are also searching for additional areas for coffee.
“We would plant the arabica variety in the very high upland areas, and robusta in the lowlands,” he said. Avila added that the target set by both his office and the Department of Agriculture regional office was 500 hectares every year.
For rubber, the city would also consolidate 1,000 hectares within two years, the minimum requirement of prospective investors in a processing plant.
Rubber was included after the Board of Investments inquired with Avila’s office if the city has or if it could generate the minimum hectarage.
For the three crops, Avila said that the areas could be tapped jointly in a multicropping venture. “We plant rubber, for instance, and intercrop it with cacao,” he added.
The city would also tap the small farmers in the venture to improve their income.
The three priority crops would be integrated into the entire Agriculture Development Plan, which involves development of an industry on high value crops, that includes also durian, mango and coconut, Avila said.
The agro-forestry component would also develop a protected and reforestation program of five watershed areas with fruit trees to improve the income of farmers “and prevent them from cutting the trees they planted”.
“When you plant only the hardwood, forest residents would be tempted to cut them down later if you do not offer them sources of livelihood,” he said. “With fruit trees, they would tend to look forward to its fruiting season,” he noted.
The five watershed areas are in Sibulan, Talomo, Lipadas, and along Lasang River and Davao River. (MindaNews)

(Jereco O. Paloma)

(PIA/RG Alama)

davaoeagle February 3rd, 2011, 06:12 PM Hedcor to put up more plants (http://www.dailymirror.ph/Feb-2011/Feb032011/biz4.html)
BY MAYA M. PADILLO
Hedcor, Inc. is planning to put up two more plants in Sibulan, Davao del Sur in July or August this year.
Hedcor president and COO Rene Ronquillo said the company’s existing Sibulan Hydro Electric Power plant is composed of two plants: Plant A, which has an installed capacity of 16 megawatts (MW), and Plant B, which has 26.5 MW.
Ronquillo said the company is eyeing to start its project in Tamugan in September or October this year.
“We are still waiting for our permit from the city,” he said.
Ronquillo said Hedcor recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the indigenous people (IP) in Tamugan.
“We still have to get the approval of the barangay, then the water permit, and approval from the ECC,” he said.
Ronquillo said they are now focusing on their two plants in Sta. Cruz: Tudaya 1 (6 MW) and Tudaya 2 (9MW).
He said they are also looking at the areas of Compostela Valley and Bukidnon for their new projects.
Hedcor vice president Gregorio Jabonillo said they are now talking with the Mandaya tribes for their Comval project, which is targeted to start next year.
Jabonillo said they are eyeing to put up two plants in the area that could generate 20 MW. The plants would be built in the rivers of Camanlangan and Tandic.
A bigger project is being prepared in Bukidnon, targeted to generate 30 MW when completed.
Jabonillo said they are now also talking with the Federation of Matigsalug and Manobo Tribal Councils (Femmatrics) for their project in Bukidnon.
He added that they are eyeing to tap the water of Sita River.
Ronquillo said he still cannot divulge the budget for their upcoming projects.

rodincouch February 4th, 2011, 12:40 AM Thousands welcome Chinese New Year (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/davao/local-news/thousands-welcome-chinese-new-year)
THE cold weather experienced by Davao City did not stop thousands of Dabawenyos who joined the city's Chinese community in welcoming the year of the metal Rabbit on Wednesday night.
Jasper Huang said it was the first time that they held the event in a different venue and with different set of activities.
Several prominent officials graced the event like Mayor Sara Duterte and her father, Vice Mayor Rodrigo Duterte, and members of the City Council.
At 2 p.m., a motorcade signaled that start of the festivities followed by a Holy Mass at the Sta. Ana Shrine and a ceremonial walk to the Davao Central High School (DCHS) with the Chinese' traditional dragon dance.
Inside the gymnasium of DCHS was a wide array of businesses displaying their native and traditional Chinese cuisine and delicacies.
Students from five different Chinese schools were also present to showcase different traditional dances and several traditions while entertaining the audiences.
Outside the gym was a foam party set by the organizers wherein different youths, young professionals were housed under one venue.
"We are looking forward for a more festive and merrier celebration of the Chinese New Year for next year" Huang said.
Different types of cars from vintage to the latest models were displayed in their version of autocross show.
Despite the city's strict implementation of the total ban for pyrotechnics, the organizers prepared an audio-video presentation of a pyrotechnic display almost exactly depicting the actual live fireworks display with matching smoke machine on site. (JOP)

davaoeagle February 4th, 2011, 04:47 AM Insurance firm aggressive in its expansion plans in Davao City (http://www.mindanaotimes.net/?p=17158)
Written by: Fusilero , Kristianne
Friday, 04 February 2011
CANADIAN based Manufacture Life Insurance Co. (Manulife) has expanded its operations to accommodate more financial sales agents and clients, transferring its office to 8990 building in front of Palma Gil Elementary School.
Indren S. Naidoo, president and chief executive officer of Manulife-Philippines, said during the inauguration of its new office in time of the Chinese New Year yesterday that the expansion in the city is one of their priorities this year upon noting the area’s potential to have more investors.
“It is time for Davao (branch) to shine. We want to be the number one insurance firm in Davao,” he said, adding that it is one of the branches that contributes growth to their total income which marked about P1.6 billion last year.
He said the firm’s expansion will also help support Davaoeños in their financial concerns with the company’s insurance products on education, protection, health and investment.
He expects the Davao branch to increase its number of agents from the current workforce of about 80 to 400 to accommodate the city’s population.
The building was the fourth stop for the company’s office, after Anda, Magallanes and C.M. Recto, since it first entered the city for three decades now.
The building also housed Chinabank, the firm’s partner in providing insurance products. In the country the Manulife Chinabank Life Assurance Corp. has a strong and aggressive growth of about 300 percent year on year.
Teresita C. Delos Santos, branch head and senior financial adviser of Manulife-Davao, said the branch has also performed well especially in the previous year. She said the accounts from the Davao Light and Power Co. alone have about 840,000.
“Although we could not divulge the exact figures, we hit our target with 100 percent growth last year. The Davaoeños are also responsive in our products. We are extremely growing in the city. We are also optimistic to surpass it this year,” she said.
She said the clients could also rely on the insurance firm especially that it is the first foreign company to list in the Philippine Stock Exchange.

PHILIPPINE Sports Commissioner Chito Loyzaga will keynote major sports events opening on February 11 to 13 here in Davao City.
Neilwin Joseph Bravo, Evangelista Aquatics and Sports Management Inc. director for corporate affairs, said Thursday that Loyzaga will have his hands full with speaking engagements during his three-day visit.
Loyzaga will guest at the opening of the 6th Davao City Baseball Cup at the University of Mindanao (UM) Matina in the morning of February 11 then he will meet with sportswriters at noontime.
In the afternoon, the PSC commissioner who is in charge of Mindanao development will give a pep talk in the Sports Management Seminar set in a still undetermined venue.
Loyzaga will spearhead the opening of the Shakey's Girls Volleyball League Mindanao Elimination on February 12 and then he will be the guest speaker of the Mindanao Age-Group Swimming Competition the following day at the Ladislawa Garden Village Country Club in Buhangin.
Easmi's staff Rael Diaz said the seminar is open to all sports coordinators, PE instructors and coaches with Easmi president Darren Evangelista, a former Mapua bemedaled coach, Bravo and James Infiesto of the Sports Development Division of the City Mayor's Office resource speakers.
"The management seminar will help participants plan their sports programs for the entire year," Diaz said at the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn.
Diaz, meanwhile, said a total of 12 teams will compete for honors in the volleyfest with teams coming from Cor Jesu College of Digos and General Santos City out to challenge Davao City squads including defending champion Davao City National High School. (MLSA)

I notice that the ad billboards in Davao are getting bigger and omnipresent-they are just all over the place. the city gov't should regulate this to include size and location. At times they are very unsightly.:ohno:

rodincouch February 5th, 2011, 03:27 AM Culture, arts flourish despite flagging interest (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/davao/local-news/culture-arts-flourish-despite-flagging-interest)
DESPITE the seeming lack of interest among the young to pursue the finer arts as against popular art forms, culture and arts in the country continue to thrive.
Prof. Ricky De Ungria, commissioner of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), said this is the reason why they are holding the Philippine International Arts Festival (PIAF) in Davao, to bring these art forms for public viewing and appreciation to a greater number of people.
This is the third year the festival will be held and the first time it will be hosted outside Metro Manila.
Aside from the whole-month showcase of arts and culture, which will kick off this Sunday at 5 p.m. at the People's Park, the current state and issues besetting the arts and culture in the country will also be discussed.
Similar events will be held in Luzon and Visayas.
Prominent television personality and talent manager Boy Abunda was present during Friday's announcement of the NCCA's celebration of cultural and arts month.
Abunda was designated by President Benigno Aquino as the ambassador of NCCA-PIAF.
The sub-commission is composed of seven arts, including architecture, cinema, literature, music, theater, and visual arts.
Among those that will be featured at the People's Park are performers from Magallanes Elementary School who will present a montage of Mindanao culture dubbed "Hugyaw sa Mindanao (Laughter in Mindanao)"
Aside from the celebration in Davao, culture and arts related activities are also set in Cagayan de Oro, General Santos, Butuan, Tagum, Koronadal, Digos, Sarangani, Compostela Valley, Maguindanao, Koronadal, Santo Tomas and Kapalong. (Jereco O. Paloma)

rodincouch February 5th, 2011, 03:41 AM Market promo activities beef up SMEs in Davao (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/davao/business/market-promo-activities-beef-smes-davao)
VARIOUS market promotion activities implemented throughout the Davao Region by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) last year have linked local producers to a number of buyers.
The preliminary annual report of DTI-Davao revealed that the amount of domestic sales generated from DTI-initiated events hit 105 percent accomplishment or P464.66 million, versus the annual agency target of P443.50 million.
These DTI-initiated market promotion initiatives include the conduct of local trade fairs, market matching, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Display/Pasalubong Center, Product Depot, and Marketing Consultancy and Facilitation.
Further, the report showed that the amount of exports posted by DTI initiated events last year also exceeded by 16 percent the annual agency target of US$30.20 million, making it US$35.07 million.
DTI-Davao Regional Director Marizon S. Loreto said the benefits of these initiatives are manifested in the business transactions entered into by the SMEs/exporters last year.
In coordination with the Philippine Banana Growers and Exporters Association (PBGEA), the market matching of eight Davao-based banana companies to China resulted to the initial shipment of fresh bananas.
Initial shipment to Japan of fresh bananas was also done by the Federation of ARB-Based Banana Cooperatives (Fedco) through the Industry Cluster approach.
Meanwhile, a Davao-based chocolate (tablea) producer exported to its European market more than 50 metric tons of dried unfermented cacao. As a spin-off of this, another Davao-based company was able to ship out seven container vans of banana chips through linkage with the chocolate firm's client in Europe.
In a business mission to Japan spearheaded by Davao del Sur, critical factors on mango production were identified to further develop the industry. These are the improvement of good agricultural practices (GAP), minimum residue level (MRL) compliance, packaging, post-harvest disease control, and increase in the percentage of export-grade mangoes, from 10 percent to 15 percent.
Furthermore, local producers of Romblon mats supplied a Manila buyer with a total of 12,000 pieces of mats amounting to more than P400,000 while five bayong production centers in Davao Oriental were able to serve five buyers, generating sales of more than a million pesos.
Loreto said these are just few of the many benefits that the market promotion activities were able to generate.
Loreto added that in all of these initiatives, the local government units (LGUs), other government agencies, and private sector have been partners of DTI.
"Our partnership with the private sector has always been among our tools in achieving success. We are hoping that we'll have stronger ties with the private sector and government partners this year and beyond," she said.

Friday, 04 February 2011 00:00
http://www.goldstardailynews.com/
EATING is one indulgence that human could not do without even in times of deepest financial crisis or natural disaster. And Filipinos love to eat. So no wonder food industry is one of the most dynamic, if not the fastest economic stimuli of the country, perhaps second only to the remittances of our Overseas Filipino Workers. Steamy food is served until the wee hours of the morning from the multi-colored streets of Ermita in Manila to the sodium-lighted sidewalks of Magallanes Street in Davao City.
But not all food outlets are the same. Some are a real treat but very expensive and many are just copycats and boring. But only very few really catch the taste of what is called a truly delighting sumptuous Filipino meal. And one that comes very close to it is Toryano's Chicken House, located fronting across Camus Street from the entrance of Apo View Hotel. "Toryano's specialty is our now famous native chicken barbecue aside from our mostly Filipino and unique Dabawenyo dishes," says Victoriano M. Yee, Jr., the soft-spoken and friendly owner. "We try to make our food line more like simple ‘lutong bahay' delicacies without unnecessary fuzz but with added value on quality and good service," he said. Among its customer's unique favorites are "baka't-bawang" and garlic kangkong with deep flavors of lemon grass and other herbs.
Rightly so, Toryano's was chosen as 2009 National Shopper's Choice and Annual Awardee as No.1 Native Chicken House in Davao City and is vying for the same distinction in 2010. It was listed in Chef Gene Gonzales' 10 best dining destinations in the country of the year in his column at Manila Bulletin on December 30, 2010. Gonzales is an internationally-acclaimed food and dining authority of the county. Only barely over two years in the business, Toryano's has already established a large number of followers among health conscious customers who prefer native chicken being fed and raised naturally over other breeds of chicken mostly offered in other chicken houses. The two large heaps of used barbecue sticks at the Camus Main Branch and those that adorn all other Toryano's branches are proof that it is indeed Davao's No.1 barbecue house.
Starting the business is not easy. Jun, as he is fondly called by friends, is an engineer by profession who has the passion for food and cooking. He did not give up doing business after failing three times. "Toryano's is my fourth business venture and I thanked God that it clicked with the help of some relatives and friends," Jun confided. Well not a bad feat though because I know a friend who made it big after failing 33 times. He is not worried about the state of the economy or the stiff competition among the burgeoning number of barbecue houses in the city because he believes Toryano's has an edge over them. "People eat even in bad situation and they are starting to be health conscious and going natural. So our marching call is growing, expanding and innovating", he added.
Founded in August 8, 2008 it started in a small place along Ilustre and later expanded to Camus Street as its main branch. A branch was then opened in Tagum City and hopefully the Buhagin Branch will open in February this year. Jun is also seeking good location to setup branches in the cities of Cebu, General Santos and Cagayan de Oro soon. He is also into a unique Own-A-Taxi program to give opportunity for poor but deserving drivers to own their taxi units(hyundai Accent) while driving. "It is my own way of helping the poor and share my blessing to them because I also rose from their rank," he concluded.

allenation March 1st, 2011, 06:57 AM Davaoeño Kapamilya storms ASAP Rocks
Written by: Boga , Jessy

EVEN the heavy rain did not stop thousands of Kapamilyang Davaoeños to see their favorite ABS-CBN stars.
Despite the cold atmosphere, Davaoeños warmly welcomed more than 100 Kapamilya stars — actors, actresses, singers and dancers — in yesterday’s ASAP Rock which was aired live from the Crocodile Park in Barangay Ma-a.
The crowd was initially estimated at 15,000, but later count said it ballooned to 80,000 despite the heavy rain that hit the city for the whole day. They were thrilled with the grand live performances.
Most of the spectators were soaked in the rain. Performers, including hosts Gary Valenciano and
Martin Nievera, carried umbrella while performing.
“Be careful,” Gary V. told his fellow performers at the back stage. “The stage is very slippery.”
At least three performers — including Rayver Cruz — lost balance while dancing on the stage. However, there was no major reported injury during the program.
Among the performers were Davaoeña Kapamilya stars Juris Fernandez, actress Bangs Garcia and Star Power second placer Krissel Valdez. The three of them were given three spots — first they performed with their own respective group, then they joined the hosts in promoting some of Davao fruits, and later the trio joined together in an instruction dance performance.
It was the first post-competition performance of Krissel who was welcomed into the ASAP Family with her Star Power group.
“So much happy and proud that my very first public performance after Star Power was in Davao,” Krissel told reporters. “I really can’t explain the happiness.”
Juris said her first Davao performance with ASAP is memorable.
“Imagine, I danced,” she said. “I don’t usually dance on ASAP.” Juris, a former vocalist of the hit acoustic group MYMP but now on her solo career, is a regular performance with the ASAP Sessionista, a vocal group.

Alabado: Enforcing traffic discipline
Comment| More | By Roberto P. Alabado III
WE HAVE to face the truth -- growth of our urban economy will always be accompanied by increased traffic volume and travel delays.
The more commercial establishments enter the city, the more economic opportunities there are and the more the need for people and goods to move around the city. Therefore, our goal is to keep the traffic moving and prevent gridlocks.
People always say that we need new road space (new highways, road widening and flyovers) to accommodate new traffic but we have more than enough roads in our urban area if you are to calculate road standards. What we really need to do is to make road usage more efficient. For a start, we can have a much smoother traffic flow if we have better road discipline amongst our drivers both in the private and public sectors.
We now have our Traffic Eagle Squad who enforces traffic discipline in our streets 24/7. They are provided with vehicles to be as highly mobile as possible to swoop down and catch these traffic violators. However, they are but part of the few LTO authorized personnel from the TMC who could issue traffic citation tickets against the thousands of drivers every day. Despite their small number, they apprehend violators diligently and they issue an average 300 to 400 tickets daily. Yes siree, that is how many pasaway drivers our TMC enforcers catch, but think of the other hundreds who got away.
Another problem is that bad attitude of our drivers to obey traffic rules ONLY when the LTO, PNP or TMC personnel are around. Guess what?
To aid the Traffic Eagle Squad, we have mobilized the Public Safety Command Center to use the traffic cameras to spot violators. Our Eagle Eye personnel at the PSCC are busy monitoring violators 24/7, wherein they send these captured images to the LTO for processing and summoning. So if you think there are no traffic personnel present in the area think again, a traffic camera may just be focusing on you. Did I mention that our cameras are capable of reading license plates half a kilometer away?
Perhaps in the near future, we will use more mobile video cameras to catch traffic violators. I have witnessed how violators waste the time of our enforcers by coming up with so many excuses and to the extent of threatening our personnel. It is high time that we rely on no-contact traffic ticketing schemes so that hard evidence is always clear and reliable.
Another way to instill road discipline is to educate our drivers especially the public utility vehicle drivers. It seems that ignorance of traffic rules is prevalent not only amongst PUV drivers (although they hold a professional drivers' license) but also among professionals like doctors, engineers and lawyers. I am not that confident with our present system where a driver can get a license after just two hours of seminar and a short practical driving test. Until we have integrated road safety and drivers education into our elementary and secondary education system plus a longer drivers' seminar and effective evaluative exam will we have enough confidence that our drivers really know how to follow traffic rules and regulations.
In response to the growing number of needless injuries and deaths due to reckless driving amongst our public utility vehicles, we have implemented a weekly PUV drivers' education program since October 2010. This is sponsored by the City Government in partnership with the various national agencies concerning traffic. This is a whole day seminar with topics on defensive driving, basic road safety, traffic rules and regulations, road signages, special laws involving persons with disabilities and on using the traffic signalization system. This given by resource persons from the different government agencies.
The City Council recently passed an ordinance requiring all public utility vehicle drivers to have an ID issued by the city government wherein the attendance to the PUV drivers seminar is the prerequisite. This ID system will make it easier for the riding public to report and file any complaints against erring PUV drivers. This will also facilitate easy tracking down of these traffic violators.
As of today, more than 2,000 drivers have undertaken the seminar. Plans are being readied to go full blast with the seminar so we can ensure that the estimated 20,000 PUV (jeepney, tricycle, taxi, van and bus) drivers plying Davao City will have IDs by the opening of classes this June.
These are just some of the traffic projects that the city government is implementing to instill road discipline in our streets. With retired Col. Cloribel at the helm of the Traffic Management Center, we are confident that enforcement will be strict and fair.
This is just the start of the series of interventions that we will be implementing to rationalize road use here in Davao City. We expect there will be complaining and grumbling from certain sectors but in the end everyone will eventually see that traffic flow will be smoother and safer. rpalabado@gmail.com

The Chinese-Filipino restaurant that flourished more than five decades ago in Manila is now in Davao!
Classic Savory Chicken’s humble beginnings date back in 1950s when the Ting Chinese brothers started a panciteria in Quiapo. Eventually, they developed a "special" recipe for fried chicken and gravy that became popular with the local Chinese community.
Savory Chicken then opened its first branch in Escolta serving Filipino and Chinese dishes. After more than 50 years, the third generation of the Ting family has re-launched the Classic Savory Chicken.
The restaurant also serves soups, seafoods, meat dishes, vegetables, noodles and desserts. Among its bestsellers are pancit canton, savory shanghai rolls, and lechon macau.
Experience the classic taste which has been part of family histories. Visit Classic Savory Chicken at the Ground Floor of SM City Davao.

Written by: Francisco , Carmelito Q.

THE CITY government will create a private sector-led body that will plan its tourism-related activities.
Councilor Al Ryan S. Alejandre, chair of the city council tourism committee, said the proposal is for the private sector to run the foundation so that everything will be placed in proper perspective. “The important thing is for the private sector and the government to coordinate,” Alejandre told the business reporters forum at the Medispa at SM City Davao.
At present, key tourism-related activities are all led by the government, although private sector participation is always a premium. For example, the incoming celebration of the city’s 74th founding anniversary, the city government is still leading the celebration.
The founding anniversary is one of the two main festivals in the city, the other being the Kadayawan sa Dabaw festival, the festival that showcases the cultures of the indigenous communities.
Alejandre said the creation of the foundation will also allow its members to plan the activities ahead of the schedules so that they can come up with successful activities, including the funding requirements considering that the city will not fund the activities, but will only provide the funding requirements for contests during the events.
The funding generation, he explained, will be done by the foundation as the city “will not be allowed to collect” even from business establishments.
The city government is also putting up a “Pasalubong Center” which will also become the center where products of the city will be sold.
James A Zimmerman, a member of the committee handling the founding anniversary celebration, said the center will serve a key area that will become part of the promotional infrastructure of the city. “We have a lot of products to promote,” he said, pointing out that there are only a few
activities created to promote the products of the city.
Zimmerman said the creation of a center for the unique products of the city is long overdue considering that it has several products that are unique and are “saleable.”
These latest developments came about as the city government has intensified its tourism industry promotions as it has included the industry as among the priority areas of investments.
Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio said including the industry in the list of priority areas of investments will provide push for the promotion of the city as a tourist destination.
If an industry is included in the list of priority areas of investments, new investments will be granted with several incentives, including exemption for payment of real property taxes and city government fees.

THE THREE TV shows held in Davao got strong ratings over the weekend among national households, according to the Kantar Media/TNS.
Davao was the center point of both ABS-CBN and TV5 last weekend.
TV5 held its live Willing Willie show at the Agro Field on Saturday, while ABS-CBN’s ASAP
Rocks! was staged a day later at the Crocodile Park.
Also on Saturday and Sunday, the second season of Pilipinas Got Talent premiered. It featured
some of the Davaoeño aspirants who auditioned at the University of Mindanao last January.
PGT was the leader for the weekend. It got 29.5% on Saturday when off-key Davaoeño aspirant
Herold Suarez made the country laugh. On Sunday when more Davaoeño talents were presented, the show got 27.6%.
Willie Revillame’s Willing Willie got 12.5% on Saturday, ranking number four among the shows, higher than ABS-CBN shows like Showtime (11.8%) and Happy, Yipee, Yehey! (11.5%). A Davaoeña won the jackpot prize — a house and lot, a car, and P1 million cash.
On Sunday, ABS-CBN’s ASAP Rocks! in Davao led the daytime race with 16.7%. Its direct rival, Party Pilipinas (GMA-7), only got 11.9%.

ANOTHER Philippine Eagle has been adopted by a private corporation.
Dow Chemical Pacific Limited will sponsor one of the national birds in captivity for five years, in collaboration with the Philippine Eagle Foundation.
Like us on Facebook!
A memorandum of agreement on the adoption was signed at the Club 888 Business Forum at Marco Polo Hotel on Wednesday.
"Sambisig", which Dow Philippines sought to mean "One Vision," was hatched in 2002. At eight years old, it is already of breeding age. It is one of 11 adopted Philippine Eagles at the Eagle Center in Malagos, Calinan District in Davao City.
Sambisig was produced through natural breeding techniques with parents Jag and Ka Brianne. Sambisig is the sixth eaglet from this pairing.
Providing the upkeep of Sambisig is in line with Dow's 2015 sustainability goal of protecting the local environment and its rich biodiversity.
"I hope this gesture by Dow will raise awareness for this worthy cause and encourage other corporations to their bit for the environment," said Dennis Salvador, executive director of the Philippine Eagle Foundation.
He also thanked Dow Philippines for its support, saying he looks forward to the day the Philippine Eagle can be taken off the endangered species list.
Bobby Batungbacal, country manager of Dow Philippines, said the idea came to them when the owner of Boysen Philippines encouraged them to adopt an eagle as the foundation is in need of assistance.
"This is a remarkable opportunity for Dow to help preserve this national symbol for the future generation as 'Protecting our Planet' is one of our core values," Batungbacal said.
He said they came up with the name Sambisig through an eagle contest the company staged among its employees. The winner was Jonathan Sanchez who submitted a total of 20 names.
"Filipinos have one vision; it also reflects the Philippine Society and the economy's resurgence and as the Philippine Eagle is our national symbol we will see a better future for our country," Batungbacal said.
Aside from adopting an eagle, Dow Philippines in its 41 years of operation has been involved in river rehabilitation and building homes for the under-privileged in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity.
There are still 24 eagles up for adoption, and are still in need of financial aid. The foundation needs P150,000 for the upkeep of one Philippine eagle yearly covering food and other needs.
Although the foundation has been supported by different private corporations, like PLDT and Smart, as well as from the City Government, the foundation still needs more support from the private sector to enable it to free more resources for their community-based and forest rehabilitation programs. IT is good to know that there are fashionistas who are enlightened enough about styling; and are secure of their own personal fashion interpretation rather than merely rely on the latest, expensive designer brands from Agnes B. to Yamamoto Yohji. Erickson and Roxanne Farillas had these fashionistas in mind when they opened their first Plains & Prints garments outlet occupying an 11 sq.m. space in Greenhills, San Juan, in 1994.
The talented Roxanne took charge of design and production; while her husband handled finances and operations. The success of their first Greenhills outlet encouraged the entrepreneurial couple to open more outlets, about 23 franchised outlets in the span of 17 years, all over the Philippines. The ever growing presence of Plains & Prints in malls all over the country is, indeed, a testament to the vision, hard work and success of the Farillas couple’s Raffco International Trading Company.
Plains & Prints ranks among the top five local women’s apparel brands in the Philippines today. The name has become synonymous with quality clothing and fashion accessories for the stylish, young working women and young homemakers of today. And the Farillas are determined and aiming for the number one slot. They have every reason to. Plains & Prints was recognized as the Most Promising Filipino Franchise in 2004. It also won the 2007 and 2008 Most Outstanding Filipino Retailers Awards, a recognition given by the Philippine Retailers Association and the Department of Trade and Industry.
This renowned home-grown clothing brand takes you to the future of fashion as it unveils its summer 2011 collection in collaboration with one of today’s most celebrated local designers, Rajo Laurel. This coming March 9 at 5:00 pm, Plains & Prints, in collaboration with the Chimes Specialty Store of Davao City, presents “A Close Encounter with Rajo.” Rajo Laurel + Plains & Prints promise to take women’s fashion to a new level with fresh designs and exciting pieces. Rajo Laurel, himself, will be in attendance to personally show you his fashion collection for Plains
& Prints.
“Designing for 20 years now, Rajo’s uniqueness lies in his discipline for creating versatile fashion pieces marked with distinctive craftsmanship – which is an integral part of the Plains & Prints style,” shares Cindy Yap, the proprietor of Chimes Specialty Store. Rajo Laurel creates a futuristic and fashion-forward collection for the brand as he explained, “I always begin my collection with a story. This latest collection for Plains & Prints is about my fascination with space
and beyond.”
“Rajo’s careful attention to details in fabrics, colors, and patterns is fantastic. He is in tune with his goal to create masterpieces that will make the modern woman understand, feel and look as glamorous as she can,” says the admiring Renren Villena of Chimes.
Congratulations to Plains & Prints for leading in the couture designer- apparel brand collaboration in the local market. This is the second time for Rajo Laurel + Plains & Prints to join fashion forces in bringing about a finer and more innovative collection. “Considering the success of our first collaboration with Rajo Laurel in the past collection, the respected fashion designer still shares the same vision and design principles of the brand making our partnership an ideal one. We chose to work with Rajo again because we believe in his amazing talent in creating designs that are new, exciting, and exceptional,” revealed Plains & Prints owner, Roxanne Farillas.
Rajo shares the same enthusiasm with Plains & Prints, “I am passionate about designing clothes for modern women that will make them look alluring and enchanting. This time, in a futuristic manner which makes me excited to present this collection to Davaoeños.”
This fine fashion collaboration is definitely one to watch out for. Get ready for the Rajo Laurel + Plains & Prints in “An Encounter with Rajo” at the Chimes Specialty Store along Gov. Sales Street this March 9 at 5:00 pm.

oradude23 March 4th, 2011, 08:21 PM TV5 expansion in Mindanao
By Honey Orio-Escullar
DAVAO CITY, Philippines — There’s no stopping TV5 as it continues its regional expansion to reach more Filipinos.
The Kapatid Network recently aired Willing Willie live in this city in its efforts to get closer to Davaoeños and their neighbors.
TV5 EVP and COO Roberto Barreiro recently met up with the local and national press in a conference at the Marco Polo Hotel Davao to discuss the network’s vision of strengthening its operations.
According to him, they are already building the staff and getting all the equipment ready. Signals have also been fixed. Their next step, Barreiro said, “is to have more local programs and then we’re building news bureaus in the whole Mindanao and the ‘nerve center,’ as what we have said, is here in Davao.”
He further said, “So this is an exciting time for us. Before, it was more on just replay. It was some sort of relay station only. But this time it’s different. We want it to be the originating station, we want them (the viewers) to have local content as well. And right now we’re trying to figure out exactly what new things we can offer so. We’re studying that here."

She said with the city has a long way to go in the tourism and travel industry.

Northpoint's property value rises with development (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/davao/lifestyle/2011/03/06/northpoints-property-value-rises-development-143413)
Sunday, March 6, 2011
CAMELLA Northpoint's property value continues its steady rise as the masterplan condo community further takes shape with the construction of its second mid-rise tower well under way.
"The steady and rapid pace of development in Northpoint has further built up its value, influenced also by the ongoing urban development of north Davao where it is located," remarked Marlon B. Escalicas, general manager of Camella Communities Davao.
Escalicas revealed Northpoint's studio unit was up from P1.3 million at the time it was first launched, to its current rate of P1.6 million, and is still expected to rise as development progresses.
With its first building, Manchester, almost completed and expected to be turned over very soon, construction of the second building called Birmingham is in full swing.
Camella is expected to launch its third tower soon, this time a 10-storey building which will be the first 10-level condo in Davao.
Northpoint’s grand clubhouse, called Wakefield Manor, has been completed since last year, with its stately multi-purpose hall overlooking its sparkling swimming pool filled with salinated water, the first of its kind in the city.
Another key factor in the rise of Northpoint's property value is its strategic location at the junction of JP Laurel in Bajada and Buhangin Road, two of Davao's major thoroughfares.
Public transportation is accessible right outside the condo property, providing easy and fast commutes to all points of destination in the city.
The site is also neighbor to ongoing modern developments such as high-end malls, supermarkets, posh commercial and retail shops, specialty restaurants, recreation areas, hotels, and office and commercial centers.
As developments like these intensify within close proximity to Northpoint, they become value factors that pull up the property value of this landmark condo project of Camella.
"The progressive environment around Northpoint has contributed a lot to its desirability, and we expect its value to go up even higher as development continues not only within the condo project, but also within its immediate environs," Escalicas added.
Another value factor for Northpoint is that it will be handled by a professional property management company from Manila to ensure the maintenance of the condo property, its amenities and facilities, as well as its security and other systems.
Northpoint is also expected to enjoy a decent and vibrant community life with a diverse mix of homeowners such as doctors, engineers, successful businessmen, top level managers and officers of corporations, professionals, overseas Filipinos, and well-heeled foreigners.
Camella Communities is a subsidiary of the largest homebuilder in the country, Vista Land and Lifescapes. For more information on Camella Northpoint, visit the Camella office at the 2nd floor of Delgar Building, J. P. LISTED PROPERTY developer Sta. Lucia Land, Inc. plans to raise as much as $150 million or about P6.5 billion in the fourth quarter to increase its public float.
Proceeds of the follow-on offering will bankroll a five-year expansion plan, an executive said late last week.
“Fourth quarter is our target but if we can get out earlier, we will do that ... [The amount is] $100 million-$150 million but the formula has not been settled,” David M. de la Cruz, senior vice-president for finance and investor relations of Sta. Lucia Land, said in a press briefing.
Mr. de la Cruz said the follow-on offering would involve a secondary share sale, which has yet to be finalized. A secondary offering involves the sale of shares held by existing shareholders.
Sta. Lucia Land has tapped Asian Alliance Investment Corp. to lead the local component of the share sale.
“The follow-on offering will be spearheaded by the foreign investment house,” Mr. de la Cruz said.
The property developer is in talks to hire UBS Investments Philippines, Inc. as its international adviser.
Depending on the mix of primary and secondary shares to be sold, Mr. de la Cruz said the company might end up with a public float of 15%-30%.
To date, the company has a 2.8% public ownership. Late last November, the Philippine Stock Exchange started implementing the 10% minimum public float rule as a requirement for continued listing.
A listed company that does not meet the prescribed minimum percentage of public ownership will be given a grace period of 12 months to comply. Erring firms will be slapped with penalties. Listed companies that do not comply after a three-year period will be suspended from trading and could be delisted.
Early this month, Sta. Lucia Land announced a five-year, P11-billion investment for new housing and commercial projects to take advantage of high market demand.
“Initially, the number that came out is P11 billion. But that is going to be dynamic as we go along,” Mr. de la Cruz said.
The real estate firm wants to sell more than 3,600 residential units this year alone under the five-year expansion program.
Projects include five residential towers at the back of the Sta. Lucia East Grand Mall in Cainta, Rizal. It will also have a three-level podium.
Furthermore, the property developer will put up several condominium projects in the provinces of Rizal, Cebu, and Davao, as well as General Santos City, Mr. de la Cruz said.
New property projects will also rise in Batangas, Tarlac and Laguna.
The company is planning to allot space for business process outsourcing firms in malls to generate recurring revenues and increase foot traffic, Mr. de la Cruz said.
To date, the firm has eight million square meters of land holdings around the country, of which some are under joint venture deals with land owners.
Sta. Lucia Land has so far developed more than 9,000 hectares of prime property in more than 200 projects nationwide.
Mr. de la Cruz said Sta. Lucia Land’s profits grew by double digits last year from the P22.96 million recorded in 2009.
Sta. Lucia Land was originally Zipporah Mining and Industrial Corp. It underwent a restructuring program in 1996, shifting its focus to real estate.
Shares in Sta. Lucia, whose profits surged to P94.87 million in the nine months that ended in September last year from P17.84 million in the previous year, declined by P0.01 to close at P1.14 each on Friday. -- Neil Jerome C. Morales

DAVAO CITY -- The Regional Development Council is considering a modern ferry system to connect Samal Island with nearby areas.
"We must use the sea highway. Our sea is so open," said Davao del Norte Gov. Rodolfo R. del Rosario, who presented the proposal to the regional planning body and the Philippine Ports Authority last month.
The plan aims to support the development of many tourism sites in Davao Gulf, anchoring on Samal Island. Samal Mayor Aniano P. Antalan has also been pushing for a bridge to connect the island to Davao City.
A city of Davao del Norte, Samal Island lies in the middle of Davao Gulf, which is bounded by Davao City, Davao del Norte, Davao del Sur, Davao Oriental and Compostela Valley.

DAVAO CITY - The Francisco Bangoy International Airport here will soon add additional foreign flights to Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia, the city's investment promotion officer said over the weekend.
"Very soon, we will have direct air linkage straight to Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia," Jason C. Magnaye, officer in charge of the Davao City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC), told some 38 CEOs of different Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) companies Friday at a hotel here.
Magnaye did not elaborate which airline is expanding its services in Davao's airport but it was reported that a Malaysian airline has planned to offer flights from Kota Kinabalu to this city via Zamboanga.
Currently, Silk Air is the lone foreign airline that flies direct to Singapore four times a week.
It was reported that Malaysia Airlines wholly-owned subsidiary MASwings, planned to launch in 2009 to expand services to neighboring foreign cities including Zamboanga and Davao.

VG CABUAG / REPORTER
ONLY three of the 17 ports of collection of the Bureau of Customs, the government’s second-largest revenue earner, were able to achieve its target revenue in February, leading to the agency’s underperformance for the month. For March, which has 23 working days, the agency has a target collection of P22.8 billion.
Data showed that the oil port of Limay in Bataan was the only one that made a significant surplus of P769 million for the month after collecting P2.27 billion, or more than 50 percent of its target revenue of P1.5 billion.
The two other ports able to achieve surplus collection were the Port of Davao, which registered an excess collection of P16 million against its target of P357 million, and Clark Field, which posted P7.3 million extra revenues based on its goal of P117 million.
The agency reported a collection of P18.42 billion for the period, a shortfall of about P2.43 billion, or close to 12 percent of its P20.85-billion target for February.
The bulk of the shortfall was recorded by three of the five biggest collection ports—Manila International Container Port (MICP), the country’s largest container terminal, the oil port of Batangas, and Port of Manila (POM).
MICP reported a shortfall of P915 million on target of P5.84 billion; while the Batangas port had a deficit of P912 million on a P4.46-billion target, and POM, which last year was the best-performing port of the agency, incurred a shortfall of P761 million on its P5.04-billion target.
On the other hand, the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, also one of the billionaire ports, incurred a deficit collection of P266 million of its P1.68-billion goal.
The other ports that posted significant deficits in collection for the month include Cebu (-P106 million), Cagayan de Oro (-P160 million), Iloilo (-P54 million), Tacloban (-P30 million), Subic Bay (-P19 million) and Aparri (-P27 million).
Customs Commissioner Angelito Alvarez earlier said February was a slow month due to the long Chinese New Year, a time when company executives go home to celebrate the holidays, which normally takes from one week to 10 days. In February Customs also had only 20 working days to do its job. Alvarez said he asked the interagency Development Budget and Coordination Committee to lower its P320-billion collection goal for the year due to several factors, including the strengthening of the peso against the dollar.
His request, however, was not approved.
Last year Customs collected about P252 billion against its revised planned collection of P280 billion.

Visit Classic Savory Chicken at the Ground Floor of SM City Davao.

koreanboy March 8th, 2011, 03:59 PM 8 more IT parks soon to rise in Davao City
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
DAVAO CITY, March 8 (PNA) -- About eight more information technology (IT) park projects are currently in the pipeline in Davao City, according to ICT Davao President Bert Barriga.
In his presentation during the CEO Forum of the Contact Center Association of the Philippines (CAAP) over the weekend here, Barriga identified the new projects as M. Piazza Oro, Panacan I.T. Park, Mamay I.T. Building, First Mindanao Industrial Park in about 19 hectares of the Lapanday Group, Georgetown Cybermall which is based in Cagayan de Oro City, Centerpoint Plaza, Felcris I.T. Park, Abreeza Mall and Filandia I.T. Center.
He said based on the 2008 study of the XMG Global ICT Research and Advisory for Asia Pacific Region, it has affirmed Davao City’s workforce potential which is twice of Cebu City, six times of Baguio City, seven times of Clark, and nine times of Subic.
He said Davao City has an existing 18 contact centers which started in 2009, full time employees (FTEs) in the contact centers reached 5,555. In 2010, the IT sector has forecasted 9,800 FTEs or a growth of about 76 percent in the past two years.
With the growth in the city’s IT industry, Barriga is optimistic, more BPO locators will be coming as evidenced in the above-mentioned eight upcoming projects. The projects if pushed through are in addition to the existing six Philippine Economic Zone Authority or PEZA-accredited IT Parks, Barriga said.
Barriga also said the development of the IT projects will surely serve as a come on to BPO investors plus the human resource potential of Davao City. (PNA)

Businessman plans to introduce a needed facelift of C.M Recto
Written by: Fusilero , Kristianne
Friday, 11 March 2011
THE Oroderm Group of Companies is planning to build a two-storey Uptown Arcade Complex with around 50 rentable spaces along C.M. Recto Street by the second half of the year.
Dr. Neil S. Oropeza, chief executive officer of the firm, said in an interview yesterday that they would start building the arcade once they secure the needed permits. The proposed structure is part of the firm’s plan to revive the image of the street that was once an economic hub before.
With added structures along C.M. Recto Street,
we can contribute to the economy of the city, provide the public with more areas to hang-out, improve the image of the street and generate more employment,” he said.
He described that the planned arcade will have two buildings with a bridge that would connect the
structures. He said there will be also a miniature park below the bridge where the public can hang-out in the area. Based on the proposed floor plan, the planned arcade will have an area of 3,726 square meters.
He said the planned structure is also eyed to be operational by next year as it would only take about three to four months to finish the proposed arcade. We are actually looking to finish it as soon as possible, he added.
Meanwhile, the firm recently opened a three-storey building known as Blue Velvet Hotel and Caffe that include a coffee house, medical center, spa and salon. The public can avail the rooms for as low as P180.
The medical center includes pharmacy, clinics, dental services and ambulatory surgical center. Equipment such as x-ray, mammogram and ultrasound are also in the medical center that faced along C.M. Recto St.
Oropeza said the hotel is accessible because of its proximity to various banks, San Pedro Church, Sangguniang Panlungsod and city hall. He said the rooms are all equipped with cable TV, telephone and fire detectors.
The hotel has performed well since the soft opening of the hotel on Feb. 9. The number of occupants are also eyed to surge next week during the celebration of Araw ng Dabaw on March 16.
Around 70 individuals have already inquired to stay in the hotel during the city’s founding anniversary

Living large at Camella Cerritos Davao
(The Philippine Star) Updated August 13, 2010 12:00 AM
http://img13.imageshack.us/img13/3296/re4no.jpg (http://img13.imageshack.us/i/re4no.jpg/)
Camella’s Cerritos is the latest Mediterranean-themed development that is generating excitement among Davaoeños.
MANILA, Philippines – Living large is the only way Davaoeños know how to live life. As the biggest city in Mindanao with one of the country’s busiest ports, Davao residents have come to expect the biggest, the largest and the most vast in everything, especially in their choice of homes. It does not come as a surprise that Camella has come to be the preferred address of the region.
With the sheer size of its property, the wide variety of choices it offers, and the range of market it covers, Camella has truly changed the landscape and the skyline of southern Philippines. The country’s pioneer in affordable housing and a proud member of Vista Land & Lifescapes Inc., the Philippines’ largest homebuilder, Camella is the moving force behind three of the most successful properties in Davao namely Solariega, Toscana, and Northpoint. The third property is the first vertical development in the region.
But beyond size and variety, Camella excels in providing that which house-hunters seek the most – a home. While four walls and a roof make a house, it does not necessarily make a cozy, comfortable and secure place to live in. At Camella, each property is masterfully planned to create the best environment that offers a quality of living suitable to prosper in one’s career, raise a family and grow old with loved ones.
Building on the success of its previous properties in Davao, Camella is offering a new residential property to continue its vision of providing quality homes for every Filipino. Camella Cerritos Davao, centrally located at Mintal, is the latest Mediterranean-themed development that is generating excitement among Davaoeños. Combining the sun-drenched hues and passion for life that exemplifies the inspiration for this delightful property with the energy and vibe of Davao’s colors, Camella Cerritos Davao is a charming development that marries style and function with a price tag that is certainly within reach.
“Davao is an exciting part of the Camella success story because it also mirrors the success of the hardworking Filipino. Our three previous properties have been extremely well-received because we have anticipated and provided the needs of the Davao residents who deserve the same standards of living that other major cities in the rest of the country have been enjoying,” said Camella president Maribeth Tolentino.
Just like every Camella development, Cerritos Davao offers an accessible, secure, private community complete with recreational amenities including swimming pool, parks, playgrounds, and an impressive entrance gate. Like other Camella communities in Davao, Cerritos will also have its own reliable 24-hour security system equipped with closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras to ensure safety and security at all times. It also offers a shuttle service from the property to the city-center for added convenience – an amenity that only Camella has been providing in the region.
Furthermore, the location of Cerritos Davao in Mintal adds to its value as the property is right in the midst of the neighborhood’s young and hip – one of the fastest-growing areas of the region. Camella Cerritos Davao offers affordable house and lot packages that are sound investment opportunities as well.
“Camella Cerritos Davao is a continuation of our vision to grow communities that are safe, secure, healthy, stylish, affordable and investment-worthy for Filipinos across the country who share in our drive to raise the quality of living one community at a time. We have done this for 200,000 homeowners, and we will continue to do so for the
rest of the Philippines,” Tolentino concluded.
Camella is a subsidiary of Vista Land & Lifescapes, Inc., the country’s largest home builder. It has 35 years of experience, built more than 200,000 homes through 87 projects and is maintaining a strong presence in Mega Manila and 19 other key provincial destinations and 44 cities and municipalities, while aggressively expanding to other regions.
