Ive been watching some of the episodes......and everytime Im at the office I'd tell my teammates, I can relate to Amaya...coz indigenous people still exist in Davao and coexist normally with us. Even my yaya before was from the B'laan tribe. :D

malipano is, pearl farm, samal is.

those were ligid islands?

local Ayala's yata.

thinks they had intended to leave some areas preserved.

(once read from a little known academic research, legend had it that skeletal remains of very ancient Samal giants were said to be buried in the islands.)

The Ayalas bought the 'big ligid' island. My family went there, tapos sinita kami, kasi bawal daw doon mag-stay. Evil...

The 'small ligid', the small island with the noticeable white sand.. I think it was owned by a Japanese since World War 2. The fishermen says that if you go too near there, they will shoot you. More evil...

correction ha...

.....Ayala never bought big ligid... it remains a nature reserve of the Tionko Family as willed by the father.

..... "small ligid" IS THE local Ayala's Benavista Resort (http://www.buenavistaislandresort.com/index.html)... very exclusive.... you need very deep pockets to be there.

they are also nature's avid tree planters, sometimes in the backyard I tend to notice mysterious fruits from nowhere like macopa, starfruit, tambis, guava along vacant soil areas, until eventually I resolved the mystery, turned out those fruits were dropped by bats with intention of propagating their food source, interestingly for next generations of their fellow creatures :okay:

Ohhhhhh. So that's what it is. I was still in elementary when they told me about it. So yung nagsita sa amin, guards pala yun ng mga Tionko? I see. Pero, is it true that if you go near "small ligid", they will shoot you? Up to this day, me and my little sister still holds the knowledge that "small ligid" is place you should never step your foot into. LOL!

They can be deadly too.Hendra virus can jump from bats to other animals like horses and dogs to humans by their droppings.Queensland ,Australia has the highest incidence of this viral infection accounting to more than 5 deaths on humans and dozens of horses over the past 5 years.Once you get infected, you'll most likely die as there's no cure yet.

The best talaga ang The Peak!
It's a nice new place to hangout especially kung mahuman na ang tanan. Pero even now, nice na sya tambayan.

Nag open na ang Figaro last October 18. Here's a pic we took when we visited for the first time last week.

This is the best buffet resto that I had tried that is even superior to other famed hotels like Hyatt (Manila), Shang, Intercon or Holiday Inn. Their grilled bacon is the incomparable. Much the great choices you can make. Added to that, newly renovated. Thanks for posting Sir. :okay:

A CALL FOR RESPONSIBLE JOURNALISM.

Please stop using the phrase "krisis sa Mindanao" o "kaguluhan sa Mindanao" on your news reports. Mindanao is a very big island. While a tragedy indeed happened in Basilan, it is only a part of a big land area. It is a disservice to all who live in Mindanao in peace. People who are not from Mindanao tend to think that there chaos all over here when there is none.

If a bombing happens in Makati in Manila for instance, you would not call it a "Luzon crisis or problem", would you? You have to be more sensitive and professional bec media has the ability to affect the consciousness of the viewers.

You can help the country achieve what it desires. Choosing your words well in your news report is matters a whole lot. -Mabel Sunga Acosta

Kids 6-12 years old half the price while those kids 5years and below free pa po.

There's a Php 1M budget for Calinan-Baguio-Cadalian Road. Maybe this is just for repair works in addition to the one listed above which has a budget of Php 50M and the Php 22M Davao-Bukidnon Road (Davao City Section) listed under the 2012 National Arterial Roads Rehab.Projects.

My Dear Mindanaoans

Once again, the Manila Media has easily and irresponsibly pictured in the broadcasts the whole island of Mindanao as if its engulf in the fires of war.

For just a small barangay of Al Barka in the island of Basilan; the whole picture is easily pasted as if the whole Mindanao is the Al Barka and Basilan.

Log and Like the Facebook Pages of GMA News....ABS CBN / ANC and flood them with personal request of this unfair treatment of our island in the global media.

Very much rife, and sometimes, these journalists need to even just review geography...:ohno: because there are times they mention a place that is too far from the actual news. example. Davao flooding. when they published the news, it seemed that all of Davao City was under water.....another example, a journalist said that Cotabato (well when Cotabato got flooded) was just a mere 30 mins by land from Davao city... Officials of an Indian business process outsourcing (BPO) will visit the city again next month to look into its potentials as its next location for their facility in the country.
Engr. Erriberto P. Barriga Jr., executive vice president of Information and Communication Technology-Davao, said yesterday in the weekly Club 888 forum at Marco Polo Davao Hotel that US-based Hinduja Global Solutions Ltd. first visited the city two weeks ago.
“As a result, they have bared interest to visit again in the city. They are even looking into holding jobs fair to deploy our talents to their offices in Manila,” Barriga said, although the company has not yet specified its plan.

The company has already offices in Manila. Its second facility at Eastwood Cyberpark with 1,000 seats in Quezon City was opened in January last year, bringing in to their total investments with more than $35 million.

Another company also planned to set up its next branch in the city.

Barriga said Convergys is on the process on getting the final lease offer from the company where it wanted to build its facility. The BPO company has also conducted jobs fair, hiring hundreds of the city’s talents.

VXI Global Services will also launch within its week its facility at Robinsons Cybergate. It targeted to hire 1,500 individuals by next year.

A friend of mine once told me ( he's from Angeles City ) , kakatakot sa Mindanao .
Then I asked how many people were stabbed in Angeles or Manila compared to people getting shot in Mindanao that week.
Then he told me his father and cousin were stabbed that year .:ohno:

Just wondering, Bakit hindi pa damihan ng Congressional Districts ang Davao City? I think the people should be well represented. the 1987 constitution calls for a district with 250,000. ngayon if we base it sa 1.5 million katao sa Davao City, each district would have 500,000.

^^dapat magfile ang congressman niyo ng redistricting bill :okay:

well, yun nga ang problema, there are issues: One is about the Balwarte thing... syempre the congressman from district 1 would not want his lot divided....Evidently district 2 also...district 3 unfortunately carries a bigger chunk of the land but, the population is smaller... Now.. District 1 or 2 has the best option to be divided since a lot of the population is located in these districts... i do remember District 2 filed but was not supported by District 1 congressman....

The Great Davao Adventure Race is an amateur adventure game based on the popular reality TV Show, The Amazing Race.

The Great Davao Adventure Race will be played by teams composed of 4 participants who will be racing all around Davao City and competing with other teams. The race will be composed of 10 stops (tourism related places and establishments that showcase Davao’s nature, beauty and tradition) and the participants will only be taking public transportation (jeepneys, tricycles and taxis) to go to the different stops scattered around the city.

The participants will be solving clues and performing the tasks given to them by the organizers in every stop. In the beginning of the leg, the teams will be given their allowance ( a close-to-exact amount that they will use for transportation purposes) together with their first clue.

The stops will have route markings or route flags for easy identification. All stops will have race marshals that will be monitoring the teams and checking their completed tasks. After a successfully initiated task, the race marshals will be the one who will release the next clue for the next leg of the race.

The race will have a Mandatory Stop for lunch. Packed lunch will be provided by the organizers. Also, this mandatory stop will be the first elimination round. Last teams that will arrive in this particular pit stop will be eliminated, the rest of the teams will continue along with the race. The deployment of the teams from this stop will be according to the time that they arrived. The first team who made it to this stop will be the first to be deployed, followed by the second, and so on.

The organizers of this race aim to promote Davao Tourism to the locals of Davao City, in this way, locals would appreciate their own “products, services and places of interests” and that they would know how to strategically sell Davao City as a tourist destination. The race is open to all employees, members and directors of tourism related offices, establishments and organizations.

The Boulevard area badly needs facelift, sayang harap pa ng city. The Marcos administration once envisioned the place to be a beautiful baywalk park with undulating roads, bayside commercial areas and parks of mini forests (hence the term), but they were defied by those whose mediocrity lacked his advanced foresight esp. during the Cory era, kaya yan ang nangyari :bash:

as suggested before the LGU may as well make sea reclamation project in front of downtown esp. boulevard area, other than rehabilitating and improving the downtown seaside image it could also help solve the incessant flooding in the area brought by inefficient urban blight because the original plan was defied and not followed.

Development of the Davao River area should preferably follow the Japanese way of urban planning rather than western where its riverbanks are practically used for agriculture, parks, reforestation, floodbasins that anticipate nature's cycle of excessive waterflow esp. during rainy seasons. Doing otherwise and insisting on sprawling them with mediocre concrete "development" will prove disastrous results with example as experienced by Gem Village in Maa and NHA in Bangkal.

It seems the Maa area needed additional bridges.

downtown area: People's Park, Chinatown, Davao museum near SP building, buffet restaurants, Abreeza & Gmall, baywalk with David's statue.

south: (may take whole day) Phil. Eagle Center - Malagos Gardens - drop by factory making fresh durian milk, or Eden Resort & Crocodile park, or whitewater rafting.

Davao and Cebu in the Philippines are rivals for the title of the nation’s second city after Manila. But each offers visitors a taste of the country, in wildly different ways, says Mike Aquino

Topography, it seems, is destiny. As the crow flies, Davao and Cebu are some 400km apart. But scratch the surface on these slices of Pinoy paradise and there’s much more than mileage separating them.

Founded in 1936, Davao City is home to relatively untamed hinterlands, ripe for an odyssey by mountain bike or a caving expedition. Here, the fun begins at about 2,000m above sea level on a wind-swept mountain trail leading to the summit of the Philippines’ highest peak. Or head inland to the dirt tracks and jungle trails bracketed by the Davao Gulf and Mt Apo.

Cebu, on the other hand, has been civilised for almost 500 years, so you have to take to the sea to blaze a trail of your own. Here, the action’s a dozen metres underwater, near a World War II-era wreck flush with marine life. The adventure is all about the open sea beyond the Mactan Channel and around islets near the city.

Whether you’re up for the mountains or down by the sea, both destinations have what it takes to whet any adrenaline- seeker’s appetite.

MOUNTAIN CLIMBING
You can climb Mt Apo practically year round – but that doesn’t mean she gives up her secrets without a fight. The four-day trip up and back is tough, but there are rewards for those who keep their eyes and ears open while ascending the Kidapawan Trail: about 272 bird species call the slopes home. Climbers spend the second night of their journey at Mt Apo’s summit, 2,954m above sea level, waiting for the morning and with it incredible views of southern Mindanao. During the descent via the Kapatagan Trail on the other side of the mountain, the surroundings morph from grassland to barren sulphuric wasteland before giving way to forest again. The sulphur is a reminder that Mt Apo is a sleeping volcano. Though no eruptions have occurred in human memory, there’s no stopping Apo if she ever wakes up in a grumpy mood.

ZIP-LINING
Scenario 1: you’re hanging in the air, head down, the ground a stomach-churning 60m below. Scenario 2: you’re speeding down an incline at 80km/h and you’re not entirely clear on how you’re going to stop. Now combine the two scenarios. Sound like fun?

Whether you call this type of transport a “flying fox” or a “zip- line”, the experience is the same: fear giving way to exhilaration as you accelerate to freeway speeds while strapped into a nylon harness. Much as you’d like to take in the scenery – Mt Apo looks amazing from this distance – your brain will force you to focus on your fast-nearing destination. The combined terror and excitement ends way too soon. At the end of the line, an arrestor system slows you down enough to be caught by waiting attendants. Davao’s unique terrain encourages extreme zip-line altitudes and even more extreme line lengths – Outland Adventure’s Xcelerator catapults riders at speeds of up to 100km/h down a 1km cable suspended 60km above the ground.

CAVE EXPLORING
The two-hour drive from Davao City, first in an ageing bus, then in an open-air SUV that’ll leave you coated in dust, doesn’t make for a good first impression of Kapalong town. But it’s the only way to get here and gain access to its main attraction, which is situated several metres underground.

The Kapalong caves are largely unspoiled, having been the exclusive domain of expert cavers until recently. The slow drip of water carved these caverns out of Kapalong’s limestone hills over millions of years. The air within is heavy with moisture, and it’s sometimes tough to find your footing on the slick limestone floor. The caves’ interiors resemble the fever dream of a surrealist sculptor. Stalactites and cave curtains hang off the walls, while stalagmites and columns rise up from below. Cave corals and cave pearls complete the otherworldly feel of these subterranean chambers.

Alena Cave’s exquisitely curvy speleothems (a blanket term for cave formations such as stalactites and stalagmites) look simultaneously organic and unnatural. Okbot Cave’s formations shimmer with the light of glow worms. You’ll only be a dozen metres underground when viewing these formations by the narrow beam of your headlamp – but you may feel as if you’re visiting another planet.

MOUNTAIN BIKING
You’re careening down a dirt trail with no end in sight. Then you see a ramp. In seconds you’ll be airborne, with just moments to avoid doing a humiliating “face-plant”. How you end your downhill run on the “carabao trail” at Barangay Langub has as much to do with gravity as it does with your cycling skills. Securing a happy landing isn’t easy. The single-track trail throws a number of obstacles in your path, forcing you to dodge roots, wayward branches and the occasional owpat.

Not all Davao bike trails are quite so challenging. The tracks on Samal Island, off the coast of Davao City, take hours to navigate, with those on the beachside making for a leisurely afternoon out. What’s more, the Davao Gulf provides the scenic backdrop to your labours, at least until you venture inland and uphill. The terrain on Samal Island is an excellent motivator, as is the fact that there’s a cushy beach resort at the end of the trail.

DIVING
Off Pescador Island near Cebu, divers eagerly await the start of the “sardine run”. Plunge in and position yourself correctly to be surrounded by an immense swarm of sardines. The rich fishing in these waters attracts predators like the thresher shark and the whale shark – no threat to divers, but still quite an intimidating sight. Fancy a bit of wreck diving? Head for Talima, home to a sunken ship at a depth of 12m. Keen to experience the Philippines’ incredible biodiversity first-hand? The marine sanctuary at Hilutungan Island is a riot of underwater life. You can hook up with a good number of dive masters on Cebu’s Mactan Island. But even if you don’t plan on going as far as the islands of Bohol and Balicasag, there are plenty of great diving spots within an hour’s boat ride of the Cebu Yacht Club.

BANCA CRUISING
There’s probably no better place from which to admire Cebu’s night-time skyline than the deck of a chartered boat. Cast off from the Cebu Yacht Club just before sunset and see the city lights blink to life as the boat putters past the Liloan lighthouse and the bridges connecting Cebu and Mactan Island.

During the day, the same boats cruise down the Hilutungan Channel, home to Olango, Malapascua and Pandanon Islands. Dive into the welcoming waters of the Hilutungan marine sanctuary off Olango Island or admire the residents of bird sanctuaries here.

The banca (traditional outrigger boats) used by Filipino fishermen are the ride du jour in these waters. Late at night, banca ply their trade in the sea off Cebu, while in the daytime, they double as a mode of transport for visiting “island-hoppers”. With banca – as with most things in life – price dictates quality. Smaller amounts buy a jury-rigged contraption with a puttering engine. Visitors with cash to spare can secure a luxuriously refitted banca.

PERSONAL-WATERCRAFT RIDING
When you’re roaring across the sea astride a Yamaha WaveRunner personal watercraft, Cebu’s waters look decidedly different. The insistent bee-thrum of the engine is likely to have you thinking you can take in all the islands in the Hilutungan Channel in the space of a few minutes.

That’s the amazing new perspective that’s gained when you decide to stop being a passenger and seize the wheel for yourself. It’s words to this effect that form the rationale for Cebu’s “jetski tours” – guided trips around Cebu and Mactan conducted on personal watercraft. The tours kick off at the Cebu Yacht Club and make stops at the islands of Olango, Nalusuan, Sulpa and Hilutungan.

The 50km circuit takes three hours to complete, including lunch at Cao-Oy, snorkelling at the Hilutungan Marine Sanctuary, and a brief sunbathing stopover at Sulpa Islet. The island topography around Cebu lends itself particularly well to this kind of tour – you can experience Cebu’s rich diving waters, dazzlingly bright white-sand beaches and folksy island settlements, all in a single afternoon.

PARASAILING
You give the signal – you say you’re ready, but you wonder if you’re actually prepared for what comes next. And then it begins. The wind catches the parasail strapped to your back and off you soar into the sky, watching the world recede until your view encompasses not just the sea but the islands of Olango, Mactan and Cebu.

With the towboat far beneath you, it’s easy to imagine you’re gliding along under your own power. You’ll spend a few minutes blissfully aloft, with the sun in your face and the world far, far below. But the flight always feels far too short. Too soon, the speedboat pulling you along decelerates, and you float gently back down and into the waiting arms of the speedboat attendants.

You need no prior training or experience to parasail. The crew simply buckles you securely into nylon harnesses, then revs the speedboat until you’re floating more than 100m up. All you need to do is relax and enjoy the ride, however long it lasts. One things’s for sure – it’s never long enough.

hope this won't ignite a cvc. there's no such rivalry for a title of second city after manila.

cebu is defnitely the second city and davao comes third. but he was correct in saying each

cities offer visitors a taste of the country, in wildly different ways. :)

University Town Eyed

DAVAO CITY -- Camella Communities, a unit of Vista Land & Lifescapes, Inc., is developing a 15-hectare property designed to be a residential and commercial area in Mintal district, an education hub.
The project, dubbed Camella Cerritos, will have the usual residential units and a shopping mall, Marlon Nino B. Escalicas, Camella Communities’ manager for Mindanao, told BusinessWorld.

The commercial component, which occupies at least three hectares of the project, is set to begin construction next year, he said, noting that two property consultants have already been hired to finalize the master plan of Davao’s “Star Mall”, Vista Land’s first shopping center in Mindanao.

Aside from the campuses of University of the Philippines Mindanao and a science high school in the area, two other educational institutions, namely the state-run University of Southeastern Philippines and the University of Mindanao also operate there.

1st pic is seemed to be on fire, nice shot

MINDANAO REPUBLIC. to hell with the other islands.
lol but its sad.. the media really does that :bash:, now many foreigners(even some pinoys) think the whole Mindanao is a war zone...when its actually not..
when one of the most peaceful & livable large city in the country & the whole asia.. is actually in mindanao

Landbank opening more branches in Davao Region

DAVAO CITY -- State-run Land Bank of the Philippines will be setting up its second branch in Tagum City, Davao del Norte, and is planning three more offices within the Davao Region.
The bank has already received approval from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas for its Tagum branch, said Camilo C. Leyba, Landbank regional head and vice president.

"(Tagum) is booming as new commercial centers are being constructed there," he noted, adding a proposal for three more branches in the Davao Region is being finalized, with two in Davao City and one in Digos City, the capital of Davao del Sur.

Hello,

My friends and I are going to Davao this December. We already have our itinerary set but the problem is, we don't have transportation. :( anyone here knows where we can rent a jeepney? Thanks!

hmmm.... it depends on where you will be going or what. If you want it to be exclusive for you, there are vans for rent everywhere...

If you will be going on a river rafting, the two outfits usually have services to and from Tamugan. One even offers to fetch you from your hotel.

Trips around the city is not daunting actually. For malagos -Philippine eagle, just ride the Bangkerohan-Calinan jeep then drop off at the Calinan terminal to get the Calinan-Baguio jeep...or..there is a Bangkerohan-Baguio jeep (but it is scarce)

there are 2 types of Jeeps in the City also, There is the A/C Jeep (around the city proper jeep) and the jeeps that go to the outlying sections of the city.

most A/C jeeps have numbers on them and the streets they usually ply are often times written on the sides. They just keep on going around and around the city...

the jeeps that ply to the outlying areas of the city often have markings that inform the passenger as to what district they will end up in..e.g. Roxas Ave-Lasang.

Common roads... JP laurel ave in Bajada is a common road for almost all types of jeeps that go towards DAvao del Norte.. so expect to see:

Panacan, tibungco, Lasang Buhangin

CP. Garcia Ave is another road that actually diverts traffic away from the city.. most often it is the route towards the airport.

expect to see: Panacan via diversion, Tibungco (via Diversion) etc. etc.

McArthur Highway is a common road for almost all types of Jeeps that go to Davao del sur... expect to see:

matina, Toril, ulas Talomo, Calinan, Baguio, Marilog

If you plan to go to Samal island You may want to take jeeps that ply JP Laurel Ave. If you want LAND Travel, there is a bus that travels from the City to Samal island via barge....(but of course it is not air-conditioned)
