On February 16, 1951, Presidential Proclamation No. 239 was issued declaring 105 hectares of land in Brgy. Eden, Toril District, Davao City as a Mountain Resort Reservation under the administration of the City Government of Davao City. The proposed mountain resort in Eden shall have a direct share of development to the nearby barangays of Catigan and Tagurano, and spill-over influence to the district of Toril and the whole of Davao City as well.

In the 1970s, the City Planning and Development Office of Davao City prepared initial studies/conceptual plans for the development of a Nature-Friendly Resort City in Eden with “subdued” urban facilities and utilities.

In 1991, the Regional Development Council of Region XI issued a memorandum creating the Davao City Mountain Resort Task Force which was principally tasked to undertake the immediate formulation of a project proposal. The task force was likewise directed to pursue other planning and programming activities for the development of the three (3) barangays of Eden, Catigan and Tagurano into a mountain resort, including the total development of the area to be designated as the Three Ridges Integrated Area Development (TRIAD).

(Excerpts from the TERMS OF REFERENCE
FOR THE PREPARATION OF AREA SPECIFIC TOURISM MASTER PLAN IN MT. APO AND A DETAILED TOURISM DEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR THE
THREE RIDGES INTEGRATED AREA DEVELOPMENT (TRIAD)
BARANGAYS EDEN, CATIGAN AND TAGURANO)

What happened to this Plan? Can anyone call the attention of our City Government and the DOT Regional Director?

Davao, Sta. Rosa seen as next BPO hubs (http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/business/04/07/12/davao-sta-rosa-seen-next-bpo-hubs)
By Cathy Rose A. Garcia, ABS-CBNnews.com
Posted at 04/07/2012 11:46 AM | Updated as of 04/07/2012 11:57 AM

Davao City and Sta. Rosa, Laguna are seen to become the next business process outsourcing (BPO) hubs in the country.

A report by the Business Processing Association of the Philippines (BPAP) showed Davao City ranked first in a list of 10 "Next Wave Cities" for the BPO industry, followed by Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Davao City was number one in terms of talent availability, infrastructure and cost. Davao has a workforce of 400,000 and about 13,000 new graduates are added every year. In 2010, its IT-BPO sector employed over 7,500 people, and data shows it can grow to 26,000 full-time employees.

Another advantage of Davao is its low wages. The report noted the non-agriculture minimum wage in Davao is P5,390 a month, 8% lower than Metro Cebu and 36% lower than in Metro Manila.

Air Asia's hub is Clark. No flights coming from Manila. Thus all domestic flights of Air Asia will be from Clark to its three domestic destinations which are Kalibo, Puerto Princesa, and Davao. :)

Finally, a seat...

Pinay, daughter of Davao, wins a seat in Korean Parliament

MANILA - Philippine-born Korean Jasmine Lee won a seat for proportional representation at the 19th Korean National Assembly during the general elections held on April 11, the Philippine embassy in Seoul said Thursday.

The 35-year-old Lee, a widow of a Korean, is the first parliamentarian from the growing immigrant community of South Korea.

Lee ran under the ruling Saenuri (New Frontier) Party, formerly known as the Grand National Party. Saenuri won 25 out of a total of 54 seats for party list representatives. Lee was number 15 on the list.

The ruling Saenuri party also grabbed the majority votes for the 300 parliamentary seats by winning 152 seats.

A first-timer's guide to the Philippine Eagle Center in Davao

By Alexander Villafania

DAVAO CITY, DAVAO DEL SUR–There’s a clear difference between a zoo and an animal sanctuary. A zoo is where wild animals are kept in cages for public viewing while an animal sanctuary primarily aims to preserve animals from becoming extinct. In most cases, it is closed from public view.

The Philippine Eagle Center (PEC) in Davao is one sanctuary that can be treated as a zoo. It is one of the most publicly accessible animal sanctuaries around and it is home to one of the rarest, most magnificent animals anywhere in the world, the Philippine eagle (Pithecophaga jefferyi).

There are at least 36 Philippine Eagles here, plus ten other species of birds. The entrance free is only P50 for adults and P30 for those 18 years and below.

The center is also home to the Philippine Eagle Foundation, the focal agency tasked to protect and breed the Philippine eagle to prevent its extinction. The Philippine eagle’s population is so low–around 500 mature individuals–that it has landed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) list of critically endangered species.

Built in 1987 after successful programs to conserve the Philippine eagle, the center is one of the popular attractions in Davao and probably anywhere in the Philippines.

Situated near the foot of Mount Apo, the PEC is safely nestled from the noise and lights of nearby Davao city.

Aside from being a scientific conservation facility, the center welcomes public visitors like a regular park.

A short walk in this park would lead to the PEC, which has a few, well-maintained buildings that are engulfed in forest trees as if they were part of the forest itself. A flight of stairs leads to the main reception area where visitors can partake of some coffee and snacks or buy items at a small souvenir shop.

Across a small lagoon, connected by a three-pronged bridge, is the office of the Philippine Eagle Foundation. From the reception area, visitors can already hear the caws and screech of birds.

There are several paths going into the main facility that cut through the dense mahogany forest.

After reaching a clearing, one would already see the aviaries for the Philippine eagles. Some of these cages are high up on a hill and these are where the breeding pairs are kept safe from flashes of cameras from visitors.

Visitors can still approach “Mindanao,” a tame, adult Philippine eagle who has become a familiar staple for eager photographers who want an image of an uncaged bird.

Mindanao’s handler, a man named Mario Entrolizo, often takes close up photos for other people.

There are other species of birds in the park. Some of them are the serpent eagle, Philippine scops owl, Brahminy kites, white bellied eagles, and Pinkser’s hawk eagle. A saltwater crocodile is also cared for in the facility, and there are also enclosures for a herd of Philippine brown deer, macaques, and a wild boar.

Upon request, some visitors can be brought to a specific location to see a huge colony of golden-crowned flying fox hanging on a particularly tall mahogany. :uh::okay:

If you’re hoping for some quiet learning experience about one of the country’s most magnificent animals, do pass by the Philippine Eagle Center on your next visit in Davao.

Pinay is first immigrant on Korea's National Assembly
Yahoo! Southeast Asia NewsroomBy Jonathan de Santos | Yahoo! Southeast Asia Newsroom – Thu, Apr 12, 2012

Davao City-born Jasmine Lee has been elected to a seat at the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea, a first for South Korea’s growing immigrant community.

According to the Department of Foreign Affairs, Lee stood for election under the Saenuri (New Frontier) Party, which won 25 of 54 party-list seats in the National Assembly. Lee’s election victory helped Saenuri get the majority votes in the assembly with 152 of 300 seats.

According to the website of Korea’s National Assembly, Lee is expected to “maintain proper dignity as an assemblyman, attend the Plenary Session and committee meetings, and comply with legislation and regulations regarding the proceedings.” She will serve a term of four years.

Lee grew up in Davao City and took up Biology at the Ateneo de Davao University. She married a Korean sailor in 1995 and moved to Korea soon after, the DFA said.

She became a Korean citizen in 1998.

Since 2006, Lee has appeared as a panelist on “Love in Asia,” a Korean television show that “raises awareness of (Korea’s) foreign neighbors and reflects on the true meaning of family.” She also appeared in a Korean movie.

Lee regularly gives lectures on multiculturalism and is secretary-general of a charity organized by foreigners married to Koreans. “In January of this year, she received the Korea Image Millstone Award, which is given to people who successfully blended into the Korean society and helped it become a better place,” the DFA said.

In a speech to leaders of the Filipino community in Korea last month, Vice President Jejomar Binay said the Philippines was “very proud” of Lee for running for parliament.“It shows that Korea is prepared to extend the opportunity to become a public servant even to those who were not born here," he said.

Philippine Ambassador to Korea Luis Cruz said in March that Lee “has distinguished herself as an ardent advocate of multiculturalism in Korean society."

There are around 1.2 million immigrants in South Korea, the DFA said.

BluGre to bring Davao’s durian coffee to the world
By: Germelina Lacorte
Inquirer Mindanao

The coffee shop that brought the coffee lifestyle to Davao more than a decade ago is now eyeing to bring Davao City to the world.
BluGre Café, whose name has become synonymous with Davao City for concocting the coffee blend mixed with the pulp of Davao’s icon fruit durian, is finally setting its eyes not only on major cities in the country but also in major cities in Asia, Canada and the US.
“Twenty for 2012,” says BluGre coffee owner Gatchie Gatchalian, referring to the 20 stores they are set to open for the year 2012.

Property experts name top Philippine cities for yuppies
By: Tessa R. Salazar
Philippine Daily InquirerDavao City

Davao City is Soriano’s fifth, Matti’s second, and Cordero’s fourth. Their reason: “The relatively secure environment has been attracting investors to the city (although major infrastructure programs should be implemented in the soonest possible time to address concerns such as traffic and excessive flooding).”

2 Philippine mayors nominated in 2012 World Mayor award
BY REYNALDO SANTOS, JR.

MANILA, Philippines - Two Philippine city mayors are among the initial candidates for the World Mayor award this year.

The World Mayor award is given every two years to a mayor "who has made outstanding contributions to his/her community and has developed a vision for urban living and working that is relevant to towns and cities across the world."

For the 2012 edition of the awards, 88 mayors around the world are included as initial nominees. Among them are 2 city officials from the Philippines:

Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan of Angeles City, Pampanga
Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio of Davao City, Davao

The initial list of 88 nominees may still increase, as nominations from the public will still be accepted until May. The nominees will be trimmed down to 25 finalists in June.

The nomination is done by accomplishing an online nomination form, in which a person has to state the reasons for nominating the city official of his or her choice.

The winner will be determined and announced by the City Mayors Foundation, an international think tank on urban affairs, in December.

Since the establishment of the awards in 2004, five nominated city mayors from the Philippines made it among the finalists, with three of them ranking among the top 10:

2005: Oscar Rodriguez of San Fernando, Pampanga (still incumbent mayor) - ranked 4th
2006: Jejomar Binay of Makati City (now Philippine vice president) - ranked 4th
2006: Carmelo Lazatin of Angeles City, Pampanga (now Pampanga representative) - finalist
2008: Marides Fernando of Marikina City (former mayor) - ranked 7th
2010: Jesse Robredo of Naga City, Camarines Sur (now Interior and Local Government secretary) - finalist

Previous World Mayor awardees are:

2004: Edi Rama (Tirana, Albania)
2005: Dora Bakoyannis (Athens, Greece)
2006: John So (Melbourne, Australia)
2008: Helen Zille (Cape Town, South Africa)
2010: Marcelo Ebrard (Mexico City, Mexico)

According to the Foundation, the award honors "mayors with the vision, passion and skills to make their cities incredible places to live in, work in and visit, and aims to "show what outstanding mayors can achieve." - Rappler.com

Mayor nominated in World Mayor awards

By Ben O. Tesiorna
Sunday, April 15, 2012

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte is nominated to the prestigious World Mayor Award along with two other Philippine mayors and 85 others from the rest of the world.

The long list will however be trimmed down to 25 by June, after which the winner will be announced by December 2012.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

Aside from Duterte-Carpio, other Philippine mayors nominated are Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan of Angeles City and Mayor Alfredo Lim of Manila.

Among the 88 official candidates are 16 mayors from North America, 13 mayors from Latin America, 30 mayors from Europe, 19 mayors from Asia, three mayors from Australasia and seven mayors from Africa.

Based on the World Mayor website www.worldmayor.com, they will still be receiving nominations from individuals and organizations until middle of May 2012.

When contemplating the shortlist for the 2012 World Mayor Prize, the City Mayors Foundation said they will take into account the number of nominations a mayor has received from separate individuals and organizations and, more importantly, the persuasiveness of supporting statements.

There is a possibility though for Duterte-Carpio not to qualify as according to the foundation, they are seeking candidates who “are at least in their second term of office.” The mayor is only in her first term of office. She was however a vice mayor before becoming the mayor of Davao.

In a text message, Duterte-Carpio said she could not believe on her nomination.

"Serious ba na? Kaulaw ana oi. Kinsa nagnominate? (Is that serious. That is embarrassing. Who nominated me?),” she said.

The City Mayors Foundation, the international think tank on urban affairs, organized the World Mayor Project and awards the World Mayor Prize. The prize, which has been given since 2004, honors mayors with the vision, passion and skills to make their cities incredible places to live, work and visit.

The World Mayor Project aims to show what outstanding mayors can achieve and raise their profiles nationally and internationally.

The organizers of the World Mayor Project are looking for city leaders who excel in qualities like leadership and vision, management abilities and integrity, social and economic awareness, ability to provide security and to protect the environment as well as the will and ability to foster good relations between communities from different cultural, racial and social backgrounds.

The winner receives the artistically acclaimed World Mayor trophy, while the runner-up is given the World Mayor commendation.

Since the establishment of the awards in 2004, five nominated city mayors from the Philippines made it among the finalists, with three of them ranking among the top 10:

2005: Oscar Rodriguez of San Fernando, Pampanga (still incumbent mayor) - ranked 4th

2006: Jejomar Binay of Makati City (now Vice President) - ranked 4th

2006: Carmelo Lazatin of Angeles City, Pampanga (now Pampanga representative) - finalist

2008: Marides Fernando of Marikina City (former mayor) - ranked 7th

2010: Jesse Robredo of Naga City, Camarines Sur (now Interior and Local Government secretary) - finalist

Previous World Mayor awardees are:

2004: Edi Rama (Tirana, Albania)
2005: Dora Bakoyannis (Athens, Greece)
2006: John So (Melbourne, Australia)
2008: Helen Zille (Cape Town, South Africa)

Amiya Resort Residences: Working with nature
EdgeDavao (http://www.edgedavao.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=6492:amiya-resort-residences-working-with-nature&catid=47:property-forum&Itemid=80)

One of the primary amenities in a residential development is the clubhouse. And at Amiya Resort Residences, their clubhouse is like a jewel under the sun – glittering and shining.

Talking to Ram Lu of Kisan Lu Lands, he said that the intention behind the almost 12,000 square meter clubhouse complex, which includes a 1,300 square meter salt-chlorinated swimming pool, is to give their homeowners a respite from the rapid urban development of the city.

“Once you step into our project, it is like stepping out of the city into a resort. And with our clubhouse, it is like stepping into an actual resort,” Lu said. “It is a place of relaxation, and detoxification for the mind, body, and spirit, after a long day in the city. It’s actually a place where you can rest and rejuvenate.”

Actual Photo

Amiya promises to be a different community complete with tree-lined streets, pocket gardens, and a fishing lagoon.

Aside from the usual swimming pool, the clubhouse will also feature three restaurants, casitas and villas that can be rented out, and a spa pavilion.

“What we have in mind is for families to have the opportunity to bond with each other within the development,” Lu said. “Instead of having to go outside the village, the families can bond longer with the amenities and activities we have inside Amiya Resort Residences.”

The main theme of the development is inspired by Thai architecture, which promotes well-ventilated buildings, usage of natural light, and lots of greenery.

To maintain the clubhouse complex, Kisan Lu Lands and Development, Inc plans to operate the business.

“We want to operate the clubhouse so that it will be profitable and will be able to serve its purpose. Unlike if we turn it over, the clubhouse might suffer in times of conflict among homeowners if the association will be the one to handle it,” Lu said.

kasali na si Mayor Lim, hehe. makaproud samot ang DAVAO. To be ranked in worldwide standards, 87th fastest growing city in the world and an outstanding Mayor. Pinatotohanan lng talga ni Mayor ung slogan nila last election na "Change? What for? We have the best". Talagang we have the best :)

Three PH Mayors vying for World Mayor Prize
http://ph.news.yahoo.com/three-ph-mayors-vying-for-world-mayor-prize.html

Three city mayors from the Philippines are vying for the 2012 World Mayor Prize, an award given to outstanding mayors worldwide.

Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim, Angeles City Mayor Edgardo Pamintuan and Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio were among the award's initial candidates, the City Mayors Foundation published last week.

“The prize is awarded to a mayor who has made outstanding contributions to his/her community and has developed a vision for urban living and working that is relevant to towns and cities across the world,” the international foundation said in its website.

As of this month, 88 mayors from all over the world were nominated for the award – 16 from North America, 13 from Latin America, 30 from Europe, 19 from Asia, three from Australasia and seven from Africa.

Online nominations will be accepted until mid-May while a shortlist of 25 nominees will be published in early June. Winners and other results of the World Mayor Project will be announced in December.

“When contemplating the shortlist for the 2012 World Mayor Prize, the City Mayors Foundation will take into account the number of nominations a mayor has received from separate individuals and organizations and, more importantly, the persuasiveness of supporting statements,” it said.

Previous winners of the award were Marcelo Ebrard of Mexico City in 2010, Helen Zille of Cape Town in 2008, John So of Melbourne in 2006, Dora Bakoyannis of Athens in 2005, and Edi Rama of Tirana in 2004.

Meanwhile, three Philippine city mayors have made it to the top 10 since its establishment in 2004: then Marikina City mayor Marides Fernando ranked 7th in 2008; former Makati mayor now vice president Jejomar Binay placed 4th in 2006; and still incumbent mayor of San Fernando, Pampanga, Oscar Rodriguez, bagged the 4th spot in 2005.

The City Mayors Foundation, an international think tank on urban affairs, said it organized the World Mayor Prize to “honor mayors with the vision, passion and skills to make their cities incredible places to live in, work in and visit.”

The winner will receive the artistically acclaimed World Mayor trophy, while the runner-up will be given the World Mayor Commendation, it added.

always maalala ko the freshness of the veggies and the subtlety of the meat, and the refreshing feeling that you're eating what's good for your body, and also a distinct ambiance with fellow customers. I've observed, unlike in some large mainstream joints maliit lang ang mga outlets ng Subway pero di nawawalan ng mga customers. It seems they have captured distinct kind of patrons. Another I've observed esp. in Makati, it's like you're in some kind of mini-U.N. because other than certain kind of Pinoys (not everyone are into veggies  ) iba-iba rin yung mga nationalities, they always have customers from the International Community, most likely from countries with very good food culture :okay:

it should, Zamboanga is also geared as Mindanao's BIMP-EAGA gateway together with GenSan. dapat nagawa na yan ng gobyerno nuon pa.

likes Spanish Sardines from Zamboanga, hindi mahal but good quality :okay:
exported din yun?

prefers sardines over other meat canned products kasi sensitive taste buds ko kapag may chemicals that I dislike, pero sardines comes in natural without needing artificial preservatives

maybe it's due to how it's cooked already sealed from the can, and the freshness of the fish straight from the catch without having to be frozen and shipped to other areas :okay:

'Bourne' star dons Hawkeye suit in 'Avengers'

MANILA, Philippines – Before he can be seen running along Manila's LRT rails in the upcoming "The Bourne Legacy," moviegoers can catch Hollywood actor Jeremy Renner in the much-anticipated assembly of Marvel superheroes in "The Avengers."

Jeremy Renner as he appears in "The Bourne Legacy"
Following his stay in the Philippines to shoot “Bourne” in February, Renner is busy promoting the superhero film where he stars as master archer Hawkeye.

In an interview during the Los Angeles premire of “Avengers,” Renner said filming for the Marvel starrer was like “recess in fourth grade.”

“It’s fun, it’s good times, it’s not raining outside, so everyday on set was a lot of fun. I got to learn a lot physically, and hang around with one of the greatest cast of characters around. I just had a tremendous amount of fun shooting the movie,” he said.

Renner’s character “assembles” with other superheroes to bring down their nemesis Loki (Tom Hiddleston).

Hawkeye will work alongside Iron Man (Rober Downey, Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson).

Jackson, who has appeared in various Marvel films leading up to “Avengers,” said he is excited to continue donning Nick Fury’s eyestrap since he will again star in the second installment of “Captain America.”

“I'm excited to see where Nick will go. I think my next Nick Fury enterprise is 'Captain America 2' so we'll see,” Jackson said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.

Upon learning of the interview being for a Philippine broadcast, Jackson said in jest, “Where are you from -- Cebu, Davao? You got any durian on you?”

“The Avengers” will premiere in the Philippines on April 25.

“The Bourne Legacy” meanwhile is slated for an international August 2012 release. -- with a report from Yong Chavez, ABS-CBN News North America

-Yun spanish sardines dito yes lami sya kahit ako prefer ko siya than other canned goods and take note mura pa and good quality pa, and guys try niyo madami pang classe ng Canned sardines flavor aside sa spanish sardines at sa karaniwang tomato sauce flavor and hot sauce flavor..

kaya pala...What I like about your (spanish) sardines mapupuna ko it's pure kasi kung may trace of chemical my tastebud seems to immediately notice otherwise :okay:

parang walang kaibahan nga sa mga mamahaling imported sardines, maybe it's safe to say Zamboanga-made sardines are the Best in Asia! :okay: :okay:

yung Afritada style na sardines masarap yun, check ko next time if made in Zamboanga din, yun lang parang madaling mawala sa grocery shelf :(

heck, it should be direct from Zamboanga port even in prioritizing this promising export product and make true the plan of Zamboanga being BIMP-EAGA's fellow gateway together with Davao and Gensan

BEING adjudged first among the Philippines' next wave cities for IT-BPO locators for two consecutive years, Davao is unquestionably ready to become a host city for the largest call centers in the world.

ICT Davao president Lizabeth Holganza herself announced just weeks back that a multinational company is eyeing the metropolis for its new facility. The firm can accommodate both inbound and outbound missions and its operations are expected to start this year.

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

Holganza said negotiation for the coming in of the new company was done Tuesday last week with the City Investment Promotion Center (DCIPC) chief Jason Magnaye.

Edilberto Barriga, ICT Davao executive vice president, was too happy to reveal that the negotiation came out well, confirming the setting up of the new firm, although he refused to reveal its name as of the moment.

"We are now on the finalization stage," Barriga said, adding that this soon-to-be constructed facility is one of the biggest in the world, even bigger than the country's current largest call center.

This multinational firm will initially have 250 seats by the time it will start operating.

Aside from this, four more companies have also noted the potential of not just the city but also available talents in Davao.

Barriga said each of the four firms will have an estimated number of 1,000 seats. If each seat can accommodate three employees, every company is expected to hire 3,000 new workers.

The entry of these new firms will not only benefit the City Government in terms of investments. The companies will also generate more jobs that will boost the city's employment rate and assist the needs of the fast-growing number of graduates every year.

Colleges in Davao City have an average of 18,000 graduates a year, according to previous reports.

Holganza said the city is also continuing to receive inbound and outbound missions from multinational firms and that if negotiations prosper this will the city one of the country's premiere destination for BPO locators, as it already is in Mindanao.

The presence of new call centers will spruce up the business environment even better, thereby attracting more investors from other industries to make business in Davao.

So far, ICT Davao enlisted a total of 18 small and big business process outsourcing (BPO) companies which are housed here in the city, giving jobs to about 13,000 local talents, quite closer to its target of 16,000 jobs by 2016.

The city boasts of call centers like Callbox, Concentrix, Sutherland, Cyber City Teleservices and Opinionology, to name a few.

All these developments made Davao the next wave city. The criteria to become one were based on infrastructures, large pool of talents, cost of labor space, roads, access to both international and domestic flights, and reliability of power supply, according to previous reports of Business Process Association of the Philippines (BPAP).

It can be recalled that the first wave cities for BPO locators -- Manila, Makati and Cebu -- have long been benefiting from the investments infused by international locators over the years.

But, the congestion in areas known as BPO hubs might as well benefit the city as these firms are now diverting their attention to the "next wave cities," with Davao being on top of the list followed by Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

Barriga also assured that the city is ready in terms of infrastructure to accommodate the possible entries of multinational firms.

He pointed out that if every negotiation with each firm will come out positive, each is expected to pour out investments worth millions of pesos.

"For a small call center with 10 to 20 seats, it needs P10 million to P20 million investment," Barriga said while giving an estimation how much investments will be poured in if a large investor will come into play.

Indeed, Davao is poised to become one of the country's premier destinations for outsourcing companies.

The city-government run rescue center(911) will field next month orange-uniformed personnel who will ride on their motorcycles as they turn on their sirens while rescuing those who need their help.

Emmanuel R. Jaldon, officer-in-charge of the Davao City Central Communication and Emergency Response Center (Central 911), said yesterday in the weekly I-Speak forum at the City Hall that the team will try to shorten the response time to six-eight minutes from the usual 15 minutes as its members will be equipped with first-aid kits and road accident response equipment.

Comprising the team will be three urban search and rescue personnel and another three emergency medical technicians.

Jaldon said they will deploy six motorcycles with each of the satellite office in Toril and Panacan will have one. The emergency center is planning to deploy two personnel per motorcycle.

Nelson Vallejo, emergency medical service division chief of Central 911, said the fast response action team is emulated from the concept of United Kingdom. The city’s motorcycle riding team is the first in the country.

“They would provide the emergency center an initial assessment on the field. In case that they would need a back up, an ambulance will be deployed in the area where there is an emergency,” he said.

Central 911 adopts new system to improve emergency response

TO IMPROVE emergency response capability, the Davao City Central Communication and Emergency Response Center (Central 911) is now adopting a fast-reaction emergency unit modeled from a European technology.

Emmanuel Jaldon, Central 911 officer-in-charge, said Thursday that the adaptation of a new system will enable them to improve emergency responses even in remote areas of the city, or even at the middle of a congested road.

The city now has a total of six motorcycles whose drivers are capable not only of maneuvering a motorcycle out in the middle of a busy road, but also on basic emergency and first-aid procedures.

"These men are trained on the basic emergency response procedures and they will be the one who will first respond to an area where emergency situation happened," Jaldon said.

The six motorcycle-riding first aiders will be deployed to Central 911's satellite stations and to its main office on Quimpo blvd.

The city has two satellite offices located at Km 13 in Panacan and in Toril District.

Jaldon said they are still working on whether they will ask for more motorcycles this year.

The six motorcycles will be a big help to the 12 ambulances stationed at Central 911.

But Jaldo said of the 12 ambulances, only nine are functional while the rest are undergoing repair.

The quick reaction team will conduct an initial assessment in the area of emergency whether there is a need for an ambulance or if a simple first aid procedure is already enough.

35 GPS tracking system were installed in all 12 ambulances of 911 and the rest were installed on mobile patrol of the DCPO

Globe holds ceremonial switch on of Davao City network
By Computerworld Philippines Staff
April 17, 2012

Leading telecommunications company Globe Telecom has conducted a ceremonial switch on of its new network infrastructure in Davao City which brings a radically enhanced voice and text experience to residents in the area.

The highly-successful network modernization launch at Marco Polo Hotel was attended by media guests, Globe partners and key local government officials led by Vice-Mayor Rodrigo Duterte.

Last December, Globe started rolling out its new network in Davao, a key market and focus area for the company. This resulted in doubled mobile telephony capacity which translates to fast call connections, on-time delivery of text messages, and reduced incidence of dropped calls even at peak hours and traffic-heavy occasions.

The Davao network change-out is part of the landmark US$700 million investment of Globe to revitalize and transform the entire Globe network within five years. Of the total amount, some US$570 million will be spent in the next two years.

The network modernization program includes an all-IP infrastructure, pervasive 3G coverage, double fiber optics capacity, 4G and LTE readiness, and overall quality and resiliency.

Once completed, Globe envisions a robust and resilient network that can provide an unparalleled customer experience to truly set the company apart from competition. The new Globe network and IT systems are not only designed to address all current customer needs but would also have the capacity and capability for more sophisticated use of mobile and broadband technologies.

At a higher level, Globe network modernization program also serves to broaden the telecommunications horizon of the Philippines as its corollary infrastructure expansion and service innovation stands to attract investment and business. Globe is effectively raising the bar of technology and service in the industry to make it at par with the world’s most advanced telecom communities and practices.

The Globe network and IT transformation program is an ambitious and yet necessary undertaking which will provide the platform that will make Globe even more competitive in the fast-moving market.
