abskess November 7th, 2006, 06:11 AM saan na kaya si Honorable Konsehal to shade more lights on this? abskess November 7th, 2006, 06:59 AM Davao ready to host National Youth Day Davao City is ready to host the National Youth Day (NYD) from November 8 to 12 with the police and the military on a 24-hour-a-day watch over the expected 10,000 delegates from all over the country. Aside from the dele-gates the Vatican will send the Papal Nuncio to the occasion as the official representative of Pope Benedict XVI. “The full alert status will start on November 7,” city police director Supe-rintendent Catalino Cuy told the Mirror. Cuy said the police have been in coordina-tion with the NYD leaders to make sure security preparations are in place. The Vatican will also be sending Papal Nuncio to the Philippines Archbishop Fernando Filoni to the occasion as the official representative of Pope Benedict the XVI. Mayor Rodrigo Du-terte and the city govern-ment have thrown full support to the gathering. Davao Archbishop Fernando Capalla called on to the youth of the city to join the upcoming National Youth Day to strengthen their moral and spiritual fibers. Capalla said while the activity is being spear-headed by the Catholic church, all youth ages from 13 to 39 are invited regardless of religion. “Whether Muslim or non-Catholic, everyone is invited,” he said. About 10,000 youth from all over the country and observes from other countries are expected to converge in Davao City for the activity. The convergence of youth from all over the world was initiated by the late Pope John Paul II after sensing that there is a fast deterioration of the moral and spiritual values of the youth which resulted in various community problems. Capalla said the meet-ing of the youth from all over the country is an occasion where youth themselves discuss issues and concerns with moral and spiritual direction. abskess November 7th, 2006, 07:09 AM HSBC to open DC branch By Carmelito Q. Francisco THE Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corp. Ltd. will open its first branch here in December, a bank official said. Tessa Bautista-Cuenca, the bank’s vice president for public affairs, said the bank has finally decided to put up a branch in Mindanao after several years of mulling the plan several years ago. Although she could not ascertain when the bank management first thought of setting up a branch in Mindanao, Cuenca said to her reckoning was that the place has been there since about four years ago when perception about Mindanao, including the city, was it was always associated to violence. “It was security (concern) that kept us away,” she said when she met some members of the press on her first visit to the branch which is still under construction. Its branch is located just across the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas building at Jacinto Extension.Cuenca said the bank management decided to push through with its plan after finding that the city was not as turbulent as it was perceived in Manila. “We are confident (about the investments) that the bank is putting up (in the city),” she said, although she admitted she could not specify how much investment has the bank put up for its branch. The branch will first go into selling itself for wealth management before embarking on credit card management and personal loans. “The city is a good area for investment,” she said. First established in the country in 1875, the bank 16 already 16 branches in the country It also acquired PCIB Savings Bank in 2000, The perception that the city was in turmoil has taken a toll on promoting it as an investment area. Earlier, a call center company started looking into the prospects of setting up a branch in the city, but asked officials of the Department of Trade and Industry not to identify it because of fear that its principals in the US will block the idea. Teolulo Pasawa, National Economic Research and Business Assistance Center head, said the company was looking for a place in the city where it could set up a 200-seater call center as part of its expansion project. “We really need to double our efforts in erasing that misguided perception,” Casawa said in an interview, pointing that out the observation that the city is among the most peaceful areas of the country. The only violent incidents in the city during the last 10 years were the two explosions that took place a month from each other in 2003 that killed 38 people and injured 200 others. Based on the study conducted by the Asian Institute of Management, the city was even among the top five big cities in the country business climate was good and whose cost of doing business is lower compared with entire country. davaoeagle November 7th, 2006, 07:58 AM change shift na ta? hahaha. fyi lang, 3 theatres were very popular sa una for the salivating men (hihihi), namely life, tagumpay and avenue (sa may bangoy and monteverde). unang nawala ang avenue, then, in the late 80s or early nineties (doubful date here) nasunog ang life. tagumpay later followed their demise. Gipasunog sa ADDU ang life (joke lang!) at the height of the school's anti-smut campaign lead by the late Fr. Finally!.. this one's long in coming. Kudos! davaoeagle November 7th, 2006, 08:02 AM ^^ was there an announcement of sorts in the local papers? pero sige, in one way, madiscover nilang davao, that could be the start of anything. RIght! Diha man nagsugod halos tanan na flights sa charter- they test the waters and if found ok then why would absolutely go for the regulart one. davaoeagle November 7th, 2006, 08:15 AM End of open skies to affect Davao Laviña said with the recent development at Clark, the plan of Air Macau to open a direct route from Seoul, Korea to Davao that was suppose to launch its maiden flight yesterday (November 5) did not push through because their papers to operate is not moving. The Tiger of Airways that already had initial talks of opening a budget flight from Singapore to Clark and to extent to Davao by January 2007 might not materialized. He also said that Davao will also be expecting a Japanese carrier to establish a direct flight here will also be affected. He said the plan to close the open-skies policy in Clark came after Philippine Airlines and other domestic airlines objected to the entry of international carriers. this news makes my ass wide open ready to shit imperial manila and malacanang in particular... after the delaying of LIA aiport in northern mindanao for lack of funds equivalent to 5 arroyo boulevards, now the ending of open sky policy at naapektuhan nga ang davao international airport particularly air-macau. adding INSULT TO INJURY! isa lang masasabi ko, GAGO talaga ang gobyernong national natin kung pakikinggan lang ang minority corporation, bakit kaya ayaw nilang ihiwalay ang MINDANAO sa pilipinas gayong sabi nila hindi daw mabubuhay ang MINDANAO without the mother country? anong pakialam nila kung mamatay kami dito eh pinapatay na nga nila kami ngayon? muslims and christians can live harmoniously here without the mother country believe me, but with this Philippines as a brand, mindanao will always be the lone loser. I HATE PHILIPPINES, mag kanya kanya na tayo mga bro, alang patutunguhan itong walang kwentang gobyerno natin. Goodbye Philippines, I will go to Bohol!!!!. Kidding lang bai Junax ha..just trying to lighten up the air here. lOL Haay, for as long as we continue to nurture nepotism in this country, we would never get our asses off from the rut we are in. Kapoy na istorya. But on a positive note, Davao has always had a very independent mindset as far as national policies are concerned, so I guess this will come to pass and Davao would always rise above these ripples. davaoeagle November 7th, 2006, 08:47 AM DIA Collage courtesy of TJ http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n233/davaoeagle/DIACollage.jpg abskess November 7th, 2006, 08:51 AM wrong spellig bro abs! shed more light dapat he he. I sorely miss this quiet corner of mine in Davao davaoeagle November 7th, 2006, 09:38 AM Bureau of Internal Revenue Davao region tops in tax collection performance The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Davao region is tops in tax collection performance outside Metro Manila followed by the other top performers Cebu and Iloilo City. This was announced by Assistant Commissioner for Collection Service, Corazon Pangcog, during last week’s top level session in Manila adding that outside Metro Manila, BIR Davao Region is number one in growth rate collection performance. BIR Davao Region Director Atty. Marcelinda Omila-Yap attributed its high growth performance with the full dedication in their duties of the Revenue district offices, the personnel and staff in providing their services to the people and with this, she has expressed her gratitude. The continued tax information campaign has gained access in making tax-payers understand the advantages of correct payment of their tax obligations which ultimately would benefit the whole citizenry, she said. Davao City Revenue District Office under RDO Jose Eric Furia posted the highest tax collections, followed by Tagum RDO under Atty. Franklin Ladores; Digos under RDO Eddie Castillo; and Mati, Davao Oriental under RDO Abilia Bentulan. From January to September 2006, Davao City RDO collected a total of 3,323,361,196.29 with an increase of P52,280,196.29 over its target goal of P3,271,081,000.00 or an increase of 1.60%; followed by Tagum City RDO that posted total collection of P863,975,483.84 with an increase of P15,745,433.84 over its target goal of P848,230,000.00 or an increase of 1.86%. Overall, Davao Region 19 has a total collection (January to September) of 4,580,293,708.95 with an increase of P70,113,708.95 over its target goal of P4,510,180,000.00 that translates to a 1.55% increase. Apart from topping the nationwide tax collection, Davao Region 19 garnered an award from BIR Chief, Withholding tax division, Marivic A. Galban for Davao region’s “untiring dedication in the fulfillment of duty as reflected in the records for having satisfactorily accomplished the reports being submitted to the Withholding Tax Division.” All of our successes and top performances also have been fully supported by our local government units, governors, mayors and local officials, Director junax November 7th, 2006, 09:56 AM ^^ wow 3.3 billion in tax collection for davao city alone... sige na dalian na natin ipadala na natin yan sa metro manila para maipagawa ng mga flyovers at projects doon kasi kawawa na kasi sila eh sobrang traffic na. hindi bale ibabalik naman nila ang .00000001 percent sa atin diba? pwede na pambili ng walis tingting. davaoeagle November 7th, 2006, 10:04 AM ^^ Si mayor Digong din kasi pag tinatanong ni PGMA kung anong tulong kailangan eh, secutiry ang hinihingi kaya milyon-milyon din monthly ang gastos ng Task Force Davao at humihina ang infra he he. Basta I could see the pattern there like, how come CDO's plan is put at the back burner, looking back, how come Davao took almost a decade to get implemented since the planning stage. It's not even because those infra plans are in Mindanao. I only realize this though it's plainly my own opinion. abskess November 7th, 2006, 10:38 AM Good evening Davao... abskess November 7th, 2006, 10:42 AM COver diay si James nimo diha sa TDH or DMC? always bro...okey partnerchip namo nina James and pareng Raymond. Mindanao without toilets By Stella A. Estremera Sun.Star Davao (http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/net/2006/11/08/about.1m.residents.of.s..mindanao.without.toilets.html) 8/Nov/2006 DAVAO CITY -- Close to a million residents in Southern Mindanao don't have sanitary toilets, a report on the state of the region's children by Department of Social Welfare and Development Regional Director Mercedita Jabagat showed. "It is sad to note that those who have the greatest number of households without sanitary toilets are those in the urban areas," Jabagat said in her presentation at the Grand Men Seng Hotel Tuesday. With four years already off the 2015 target of the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals (MDG), the continued lack of such facilities has still to be addressed with the number of households with toilets seesawing around the 70 percent mark from 2002 to 2005. The target for 2015 under the MDG is "to halve the proportion of people with no access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation, or those who cannot afford it by 2015." For the whole Davao Region, with a population of 3,676,162 (Census 2000 with an estimate of five persons per household), 74 percent of households had sanitary toilets in 2003. This increased to 75.3 percent in 2003, dropped to 73.5 percent in 2004, and then increased to 75 percent in 2005. Per province figures showed a similar trend of relatively no improvement. In Davao del Sur, 67.5 percent of the households had toilets in 2002 and 2003. This dropped to 58.2 percent in 2004, and then increased to 70 percent in 2005. Compostela Valley showed a slow but steady increase with just 64.8 percent having toilets in 2002 then increasing to 67.8 percent the following year. By 2004, 68.4 percent already have toilets, and this stood at 70 percent as of last year. A slightly faster increase was noted in Davao del Norte starting with 69.4 percent of the households having toilets in 2002, 71.4 percent in 2003, 73.6 percent in 2004, and 75 percent in 2005. In Davao City, figures are swinging, starting from a high of 79.6 percent of households having toilets in 2002, which increased to 81 percent in 2003, and dropped to 64.5 percent in 2004, leveling off at 75 percent in 2005. Considering that the city has the biggest population in the whole region at 1,147,116 with an estimated 230,000 households, there are still 57,500 households or around 287,500 people who do not have toilets. Jabagat said there are two common reasons for the lack of this basic sanitary facility. First reason cited by Jabagat is that in congested areas like the inner city settlement areas in Davao City, there is not much space left to have sanitary toilets per family. The second reason, she said, is "those living in coastal areas don't find it necessary to have a sanitary toilet." davaoeagle November 7th, 2006, 07:16 PM http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n233/davaoeagle/pawikan.jpg A full-grown hawksbill turtle was a surprise catch of fishers at sitio Soriano in Barangay Astorga, Sta. (Sun.Star Davao/Seth Delos Reyes) davaoeagle November 7th, 2006, 07:23 PM Wednesday, November 08, 2006 Young environment advocate makes Davao City proud DAVAO City Councilor Leonardo R. Avila III in his privilege speech at Tuesday's regular session publicly congratulated and presented Reinier Acebar Tinapay, the lone Filipino to sit in the Tunza Youth Advisory Council. Rainier, 23, was chosen among 94 participants in an international youth conference in Bangalore, India late last year as the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) Youth Advisor for the Asia and the Pacific Region. The Tunza Youth Strategy was adopted by the UNEP Governing Council in February 2003 as a "long-term strategy for engaging young people in environmental activities and in the work of UNEP." UNEP website facts state that the word "Tunza" means "to treat with care and affection" in Kiswahili (a sub-regional language of Eastern Africa). The overall Tunza Concept is built around this theme. "It is an initiative that is meant to develop activities in the areas of capacity building, environmental awareness, and information exchange, with a vision to foster a generation of environmentally conscious citizens capable of positive action." Tinapay said he did not expect his making it to the Tunza council. He started out in Davao City's Watershed Management Youth Council and applied to become a Bayer Environmental Envoy, which earned him a ticket to the youth conference in India. Bayer is the first company in the world to enter into a long-term partnership with UNEP in the area of youth and environment in the late 1990's and globalized the partnership through jointly organizing environmental projects since 2004. Avila said that for a Dabawenyo to sit at a council that contributes and voices out the opinions of the youth to the United Nations in environmental matters is indeed a source of pride for the city. He added that the council should consider Tinapay's achievement as a challenge and inspiration to be more dynamic in efforts to protect the environment as well as putting emphasis on addressing environmental issues. Tinapay will be bound for Germany in September 2007 to bring collated data on youth environmental concerns from the Asia and the Pacific Region to the attention of UNEP. (GLP) davaoeagle November 7th, 2006, 07:25 PM Wednesday, November 08, 2006 Eaga guvs meet to tackle local gov't role in sub-region KOTA KINABALU, Sabah, Malaysia -- Provincial governors within the sub-region region will converge here for the first time this week for a one-day forum that is also aimed at forging strategic collaborations. The move is in a bid to maximize the strategic role of the local governments in sustaining Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-the Philippines East Asean Growth Area (BIMP-Eaga) initiatives. Slated Thursday, the 1st BIMP-Eaga Local Government Forum will be convened back-to-back with the three-day BIMP-Eaga 14th Senior Officials Meeting (SOM) and 11th Ministerial Meeting (MM) starting Wednesday until November 10. Both the SOM and MM are expected to discuss updates on various BIMP-Eaga initiatives, ahead of the 3rd Eaga Leaders Summit in Cebu next month. The forum aims to engage provincial and state level officials across the sub-region with discussions on increasing local government participation in Eaga activities by adopting a common strategic action plan at the provincial, state and Eaga levels to strengthen cooperation in the growth area. It also aims to formalize sub-regional cooperation measures, programs and projects that have been initiated either on a bilateral or multi-lateral basis at the local levels. Highlights of the forum include a presentation on the status of BIMP-Eaga development programs and projects, as well as the BIMP-Eaga Business Council's (BEBC) presentation of initiatives that focuses on its role in advancing public-private sector partnerships in the BIMP-Eaga. Saranggani Governor Miguel Dominguez of the Philippine-Eaga delegation will also present experiences and lessons learned in the implementation of projects through different modalities of Public-Private Partnership. Aside from discussions on developing strategies for optimizing the role of local governments and their private sector partners, the BIMP-Eaga LGU Forum will also include bilateral meetings among governors and heads of local governments, including the Sabah Chief Minister. In convening the various local leaders of the EAGA, the LGU projects itself as the voice of the sub-region, and aims to develop and pursue common policy support and interventions for the sub-region from their respective national governments. "The initiative to conduct this first-ever forum among heads of local governments in the Eaga is certainly a welcome strategy in ensuring the sustainability of various programs and projects in the Eaga," noted Secretary Jesus G. Dureza, Philippine Signing Minister for BIMP-Eaga. "To sustain programs and projects the participation of the people is very important. The involvement of local leaders, as well as their private sector counterparts, would definitely have a strategic hand in ensuring such participation," he added. A side event to the forum is a BIMP-Eaga Exhibit, which will showcase and exhibit trade, tourism and investment highlights of the different Eaga provinces. Dubbed "Experience BIMP-Eaga 2006," the exhibit will be on display from November 9-12 at Centerpoint Mall in Kota Kinabalu. Organized by the BEBC and with support from (German Technical Cooperation) GTZ, the exhibit is slated to enable the four member-countries promote the potentials of the growth area and showcase the sub-region's products and services, including trade and investment opportunities. Tessa Bautista-Cuenca, vice president for public affairs, issued this statement. She was in town for two days to get a glimpse of the city and its people. "Contrary to general belief among the business sector who have already been made aware of HSBC's plan, what is opening here is not a branch of the locally-incorporated HSBC Savings Bank Philippines Inc. (HSBC Savings) but a branch of their main office -- as a foreign bank," Cuenca said. Of the 21 existing branches of HSBC operations here, 16 are actually branches of the HSBC Savings Bank and only five are of the main bank. The Davao branch will be the sixth. "When we were given three allotments, we really kept one for Davao. We reserved one of our best chips for Davao," she said. Final opening date is still to be known as the building where it will be located is still under construction. The new building that will house the HSBC here will be along Jacinto Extension right next to The Venue. HSBC is not new to the Philippine having opened its first branch in Binondo in November 1875. It opened its second branch in Iloilo in 1883. The Binondo branch was moved to Makati in 1971 while the Iloilo branch was closed in 1981. In its place, the Ortigas Center branch in Pasig City was opened. With the Foreign Bank Liberalization Act of 1994, HSBC reopened in Binondo branch in 1995 and opened one more branch in 1996. The last branch to open was in Quezon City in 1999. The following year, HSBC acquired the PCIB Savings Bank and renamed this AS the HSBC Savings Bank (Philippines) Inc. HSBC Savings now has 16 branches in Metro Manila. Of note is HSBC's commitment to help education for poor children and the environment in the areas they operate in. Thus, the first local personalities Cuenca met with soon after she arrived last Monday were councilors Mabel Sunga-Acosta and Leonardo R. Avila III. Cuenca also managed to have a chance meeting with City Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte last Monday. junax November 8th, 2006, 03:46 AM more news from the REPUBLIC OF MINDANAO... Mindanao trade performance in the upswing by Prix D Banzon Davao City (8 November) -- “Trade performance of Mindanao for the first quarter of 2006 made good showing” Ever Abasolo, senior economic development specialist of the Mindanao Economic and Development Council (Medco) said in a recent business forum at Café Barcellis along J P Laurel Avenue in Davao City. He said growth rate on export was pegged at 10.73 percent with fresh banana still among the top 5 export commodities together with coconut oil (crude and refined), sintered iron ore aggregates, fresh pineapples and tuna. The top export markets are Japan, United States of America, Netherlands, China and South Korea. The top imported commodities on the other hand are rice, iron ore and concentrates, wheat, flat-rolled iron and kraft liner and these are sourced from Vietnam, United States of America, Malaysia, New Zealand and Brazil. The major agricultural exports in Mindanao are coconut oil (crude and refined), banana (fresh and chips), tuna (fresh/chilled), pineapple (fresh/preserved), pineapple juice concentrate, oil cake and other residue, rubber in primary form and dessicated coconut. Meanwhile Abasolo said that among the regions in Mindanao, Region IX was the largest producer of commercial and municipal fish during the first semester of 2006. Aquaculture fishing was strongest in the Autonomous Region for Muslim Mindanao and its production improved by 9.83 percent during the first six months this year. Region X registered a high growth rate in livestock and poultry at 5.79 percent that was triggered by the largest increase in chicken eggs production which was 16.35 percent. The region was also the biggest contributor of livestock/poultry production as it accounted for 26.71 percent of the total production. The Davao region however was the largest producer of palay, corn banana and coconut for the period in review. Region IX also was noted as the largest producer of rubber during the first six months this year but it also registered with the largest increase in coconut production with 9.59 percent from 779,000 metric tons in 1st semester of 2005 to 853,450 MT in 1st semester 2006. junax November 8th, 2006, 04:03 AM Feature: Davao hip-hop, proudly Davao by Rudolph Alama Davao City (1 November) -- Davao nightlife was introduced to Dabawenyo hip hop during a local cable television show's Halloween party which featured performances from different local hip-hop groups like Buboy Kimpo, Thavawenyoz and the Wadab Playaz. Often distinguished by homegrown Dabawenyo Bisayan lyrics and subjects that tackle current youth culture and the apparent local social reality, Davao hiphop has been known to enjoy a huge following among the youth notably among the C-D segments. Wadab playaz a collective posse composed of rap groups with names like Mapzlan (Mapuzlan man), Tres Marias, Chapter 13, DOS (diplomatic old school) and C.I.A. (Chriztian Izlam Allianz) are among the many artists coming from the ever-expanding local pop culture which had kept the Davao hip-hop music scene alive Although critics have said that they sounded the same or clones of popular rappers, these groups' uniqueness lies on its members. DOS is composed of full-time college students; Tres Marias is a trio of hip-hopping females while C.I.A. interestingly means Chriztian Izlam Allianz is a group composed of Christian and Moslem rappers whose songs espouses peace and unity. These groups are churning out rap songs which then are given the appropriate beats by their godfathers; the Thavawenyoz. And who would never forget this rap duo which bagged the 2005 Awit Awards for best regional recording with their slew of controversial hits like "Hubag" and "Roger." According to Roseller Lagnayo Jr. or JP, one-half of the Thavawenyoz hip-hop duo, he would like to see one day that the Davao hip-hop artists will be recognized by the city and also by the nation. "There are many talented rappers out there, like there is a balut vendor, a trisikad driver and out-of school youths we try to help them by working out their compositions, providing them the needed beats and exposing them through our gigs." JP said. He and his rap partner Boone Dennis Batuto are currently producing a compilation album for these rapping Davao youths. Aside from being sort of hip-hop philanthropists, the Thavawenyoz; JP a.k.a. Mistah Silenzah a recent passer of the Licensure Examinations for Teachers and Boone Dennis a.k.a. B.O.N, a political science graduate of the University of Mindanao are working hard to promote their career. "Lisod kaayo" (it's very difficult) said Roseller. Finding himself as a "de facto manager" as their manager has focused on other priorities, leaving the group to fend for themselves. JP also said that aside from finding bookings for their gigs, his challenge is promoting the group. Although their songs have been immensely popular reaching even in Manila, the group is not known, prompting unscrupulous individuals in claiming Thavawenyoz songs as their own. JP cites a group in Cebu that claim that the song "Hubag" was theirs. The song extremely popular in Cebu had JP and Boone scrambling to go to the Queen City of the south which had taken Cebu by storm. Fortunately reggae/dub band Jr. Kilat which played a cover of "Hubag" reinforced the Thavawenyos' claim, rightfully acknowledging the group as the original artists of the song, with some sympathetic Cebuano hip-hoppers castigating the plagiarists. To stake their claim to their song, JP and Bon produced a music video on the song, made by Davao City-based Avante Garde studios, the video which debuted in Muzika del Sur in cable TV earned a welcome reaction from televiewers "sila pala ang kumanta nun." Another case involves a sample of their second hit song "Roger" which has been repeatedly played in a defunct sitcom of a top television network, "lagi, madunggan namo, pero unsa may mabuhat namo." (Yes, we heard it, but what can we do). JP is currently looking for sponsors which would help him produce the music video for "Roger." Another issue stalking the group is the offensive lyrics of their songs. "Hubag" is supposedly a derogatory jargon for a voluptuous female, while "Roger" is a play on the word gerger, a recent bisayan slang for fornication. The songs popularity has been controversial to the extent that a city councilor of Cagayan de Oro threatened to ban the broadcast of the two songs from the city. A sorry development for the group that is also known for making catchy soulful and wholesome ditties like "Mao kaha kini ang Gugma?" (Is this really llove?) and "My Filipina girl" However JP defends "Hubag." When I made the song, I had no inkling what "Hubag" meant. Browsing to the true meaning, he found out that the song was not originally derogatory in character, "Hubag" simply meant "beautiful, attractive, good-looking, lovely, gorgeous, pretty and charming women and nothing else." In those meanings JP built the hit song which would be their biggest song to date. In their follow-up to "Hubag" the song "Roger," another controversy would have arisen with its double meaning, but the song simply tells the story of a good worthy fellow named Roger falsely accused of flirting on his bestfriend's girlfriend. In their future projects JP says that they are building up the Wadab Playaz, to be capable performers, one of the posse's songs, the catchy D.O.S. ditty "Haller, haller, (gusto ko'g driver)" is currently enjoying airtime in radio stations in Davao City and is fast gaining popularity. A new Thavawenyoz album is also in the works, this time it will dig more into their R&B influences that would highlight more of JP's singing prowess. It is interesting to note that JP was formerly a tenor of the University of Mindanao choir, could shift from a bisaya rapper into a soulful crooner with ease. But at present they are dipping their hands in the political arena, not to run for political office but in composing campaign jingles, and perhaps performing during campaign sorties. It is another work ahead for the Thavawenyoz. But while people their age are already starting to work in mundane 8-5 jobs, JP and Bon are working on their passion and earning from it. With their earnings JP and Bon are completely independent from being their parent's financial burden and at the same time supporting those local hip-hop youths unleash their creative talents in words and rhyme. Garcia Published : 2006-11-07 The rebirth of Eagles at The Marco Polo Davao surely took the metro’s party scene to a new height. Just recently, Eagles (formerly Eagles Bar) was re-launched with a high-flying party packed with fun games and treats from The Marco Polo team. The re-launch bash drew in the city’s party-philes - some familiar faces (plus a bunch of new ones) who have always been supporters of the former Eagles Bar’s major Must-Attend weekend affairs. During the party, Eagles came up with new party games to add zest to the already animated crowd. The Create-Your-Drink and Drink Auction contests brought out the bartender spirit in some Davao’s notable personalities, such as dentist Doris Tagle, pianist Daphne Jocson, businessman Kim Honasan, Karen Alabado of Skin Doctors, Jojie Alcantara of SunStar, and Patrick Castro of the Davao City Chamber of Commerce. The so-called “celebrity bartenders” concocted various cocktail drinks which they auctioned to the frenzied crowd. Kim and Daphne’s mixed drink raised the highest bid for a single drink and won treats from The Marco Polo. Later in the evening, the crowd merrily sang along with bar’s featured performers. Some guests from the Republic of Palau and The Dawn lead singer Jet Pangan even jammed with the crowd. With an SRO attendance during the re-launch party, it is guaranteed that the revival of Eagles as the metro’s premier party address will carry on for many weekends to come. More than just a regular hotel bar, Eagles now serves delectable ala carte lunch and dinner meals. Open from 11 am to 2 am daily, the resto-bar serves whopping servings of sizzling steaks, lamb chops, prawns, tuna, and many more at very affordable prices. Diners and bar habitués are also entertained nightly with soothing pop and jazz numbers from top-caliber Davao singers. NCCA, NAMCYA holds choral writing competition National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and Music Competitions for Young Artists Foundation, Inc. (NAMCYA) announced the search for new and unpublished choral settings of Philippine folk songs or original compositions for mixed (male & female) adult choir. Dubbed as “Mga Awiting Bayan Para sa Korong Pilipino: A Choral Writing Competition,” the project responds in particular to the dearth of choral settings of songs from various parts of the Philippines in the local languages. The competition aims to select 15 outstanding choral settings of songs from different parts of the country for publication in an anthology and a cash prize of Php20,000.00 each. The competition is seeking new and unpublished choral settings of Philippine folk songs or original compositions (written in any Philippine language) for mixed (male & female) adult choir written within the period from January 1, 2006 to December 20, 2006 Contestants should use public domain materials (e.g., folksongs) or original works to avoid copyright infringements. The works may be accompanied or unaccompanied. Accompanied pieces should use instruments that are readily available to ordinary choirs. The duration of the arrangements should not be shorter than 3 minutes but not longer than 5 minutes. Scores should be neat and readable (illegible scores will not be accepted). Contestants may submit more than one entry. Each entry score should be submitted in a manila envelope with the following attachments: contestant’s profile/short biography, 5R sized photo (half-body), and background information on the song in approximately 150 words (including song’s place of origin, special meanings, context, etc.). English translation of the song text (not intended to be sung) information sheet (typewritten) containing the following: contestant’s complete name, address, birthday, email address, telephone numbers, title of the song, date of the completion of the piece, names of lyricist and composer with dates of birth and death, language used, instruments used, and approximate duration of the piece. Submit entries personally or by mail to THE PROJECT MANAGER, National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA), Folk Arts Theater, CCP Complex, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City, or call/text 0918-9344240 OR 0927-4309560, or email at awitingbayan@yahoo.com. All entrees must be received by the Secretariat on or before December 20, 2006. POSTSCRIPT FROM THE EDGE. It’s like passing through the hole of a needle while being interrogated. The moment your car enters the main entrance gate of the Davao International Airport Authority at diversion road, security guards block your vehicle for inspection. While already entering the building, the desk officer will ask for your plane ticket and a valid ID for verification and comparison whether the name appearing in the ticket conforms to the passenger ID. The next move is to pass the x-ray machine where you are required to remove your shoes (It’s good that my pair of socks is newly bought) untie your belt, gather the keys, watch, cell phone, digital camera, or anything made of metals and place them in a basket also for inspection. My 6-year-old alaga Jin Lorenz was stopped and bodily checked when a beep sounded while he passed the apparatus. A game boy advance SP was found in the boy’s pockets that caused the alarm. He was told to operate the game boy before letting him go. While inside, a security personnel politely asked for our plane tickets and inquired if Virgie, Jin Lorenz, and I have luggage for check in. Upon learning that we have only hand-carried bags, the guard asked me: “Sir, meron kayong 20 kilos ( or 40 kilos) na libreng cargo, baka puede magamit ni “General” (he must be referring to a police officer who I saw later at the VIP’s room who also boarded the plane that day). He then asked for our tickets and brought them to the counter for confirmation. Kaya pala very polite ang dating at accommodating ang mokong ay may hihingin sa akin. The airport management should check this guard for his act since this is also a form of extortion. It should not only watch for terrorist disguising as passenger. This guard can also be a threat to the security of the air traveling passengers. At the departure area at the second floor of the DIAA building, passengers were also asked to remove their shoes and again underwent the same ala kempetai procedure of inspection at the ground floor. Naging over security conscious ang Davao airport, and I’m not blaming them. If they really after the safety of the passengers, then okey lang sa akin. Our flight to Manila was delayed by almost two hours which according to what we heard, was caused by some planes that are undergoing repairs and those that are still in good shape are used as alternate to accommodate the volume of passengers coming in and out of Davao City. Despite of the delay we felt comfortable because the DIAA departure area is well maintained and cool for travelers who may want to relax or sleep while waiting for the plane. We finally reached our destination after an hour and a half air travel from Davao City last Friday. Tomorrow, I will report the security measures being implemented by the Ninoy Aquino International Airport while we were coming home after only 48 hours stay in Manila. Trade and Industry assistant secretary Merly Cruz, who chairs the BIMP-EAGA Construction and Construction Materials Working Group (CCM-WG)) opened the 12th CCM-WG Meeting here at the Magellan Sutera Hotel. The meeting gathered top government officials and private sector leaders involved in the sub-regional development initiatives, particularly in the construction industry and construction materials sector. According to Cruz, the meeting intends to review and discuss the status of several flagship projects and introduce the new proposals for incorporation in the BIMP-EAGA list of proposed major activities. “We need to boost our efforts in pushing for the progress of projects under this sector to pave the way for much desired economic take-off,” Cruz said. Among the flagship projects under the construction sector include the housing development projects in Indonesia and Sarawak, Malaysia where possible areas of cooperation are centered on Construction Manpower Requirement, Construction Materials Exchange/Trading as well as Financing/Expert Requirements. The Philippine delegation here has presented for inclusion in the list of new projects in the construction sector the Davao Food Exchange Complex and several other projects identified under the Mindanao Super Region Strategy. “The Davao Food Exchange Complex is aligned with the Philippine Government’s thrust of developing and promoting industries with high growth potentials and competitive advantages,” says Ernesto Paredes, president of Southern Philippine Construction Group. The working group meeting on construction was slated ahead of the two back to back meetings here, the 1st BIMP-EAGA Governors Forum and the BIMP-EAGA Senior Officials and Ministers Meeting which will open tomorrow. Since last Monday, the session hall has been connected to the internet through wireless networking that allows computers, laptops, and other wifi-ready devices to surf the worldwide web, send and receive email, transfer files, maintain blogs, and do a host of other useful things. Councilor Rene Lopez, chair of the Committee on Information Technology, said the wifi connection at the session hall is still in the demonstration stage in which its benefits are being shown to the other councilors. Lopez said the demonstration stage will end as soon as the contract with the service provider begins. “This will be the dawn of the new age of legislation in Davao City,” Lopez said of the start of the council’s connection the internet. He said legislators can now access records and check facts faster and easier. Lopez said the availability of the connection to the web also ensures the Council’s academic integrity. “This will aid the councilors in creating better legislation, having clearer discussion, to settle issues, clarify things, and to find solid evidence,” he added. In yesterday’s session, the discussion on whether the African tulip will thrive on the city’s soil was aided by the internet. African tulips are being planned to be planted on the PTA grounds which is being developed into a park. The councilors were also able to check the prices of garbage bins. “With the installation (of wifi) hopefully the level of discussion and quality of legislation will be enhanced,” Lopez added. He said the internet connectivity also ensures that the Constitutional right to knowledge will be upheld. Lopez said the internet connection inside the session hall is open to all. A P450,000 budget was allocated in the Supplemental Budget No.1 for the installation of wireless internet in the Sangguniang Panlungsod, but as of now only the session hall has been connected. The monthly payments for the provider has been included in the 2007 proposed annual budget, according to Lopez. abskess November 8th, 2006, 10:22 AM       http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n233/davaoeagle/time.jpg TIME CAPSULE Anflocor president Rodolfo del Rosario leads the lowering of the time capsule during the launch of Microtel Inn Suites in Damosa yesterday. Thursday, November 09, 2006 Destination London: The journey begins for Davao swimmers By Charles Raymond A. Maxey THEY are the new kids on the block. Celina Gonzalez, Jose Joaquin Gonzalez, and Alyanna Malabanan. All so young yet ready to conquer. And make no mistake about it. These three fine athletes from Davao City are full of dreams and they represent the future of Philippine swimming. The Gonzalezes, who are cousins, and Malabanan indeed are three of the country's brightest hopes in swimming. They have the skills and talent to conquer the opposition as they had done in the past by winning gold, silver, and bronze medals in local, national and even international meets. So it came as no surprise when the Philippine Amateur Swimming Association headed by its president, Mark Joseph, took in the three as members of the RP Junior Developmental Team, which will undergo a special training program launched by Pasa. Celina, Joquin, and Alyanna are now honing their skills in state-of-the-art facilities at the Trace Aquatics Center in Los Baños, Laguna. The 10-year training program is part of the country's preparations for international competitions, including the 2012 London Olympics. While at the Trace, the Davao swimmers will continue their high school studies and swimming regimen under coach Pinky Brosas. The development program also includes a US training as Pasa has tied-up with some college US coaches. Basically, Celina, Joaquin and Alyanna have embarked on a long journey towards the London Olympics. Joboy, as Joaquin Gonzalez is fondly called by relatives and friends, is a perennial winner in every regional and invitational meet. He is also a multi-gold medal winner in the Palarong Pambansa. But the 13-year-old Joboy, who first started swimming at the age of 3, first established his name as a tanker to reckon with when he was adjudged as the Most Outstanding Swimmer in the 7-8 age category during the Batang Pinoy in Palawan meet where he established three new national swim marks. "Joboy excels in swimming because he is having fun while training and competing. He was only five years old when he crossed the Samal to Davao City channel. No signs of fear nor awe could be seen in his face as he crossed the channel," says his coach Jun Rodriguez. "He was still a baby when we plunged him to the water and from that moment he was hooked by it," Rodriguez added. In the 2006 Palarong Pambansa, Joboy dominated the field by winning four golds, two silvers and a bronze, making him the most outstanding athlete of the Davraa delegation. Joboy, who specializes in butterfly and backstroke events, is also a dominant athlete in Regional Swimming Association 11 meets. During the Philippine Olympic Festival at the Trace Aquatics Center, Joboy bagged nine golds in a show of might at the pool. The performance earned him the invitation to the special training program. "That was the icing on the cake," his father Manny Gonzalez said. Unlike Joboy, Alyanna Malabanan's swimming career started by accident. Alyanna, 14, was then one of the top jins training under coach Giovanni of Ateneo. But being the only daughter among the siblings, her dad discouraged her from pursuing her interest in tae kwon doo because the sport has lots of physical contact, which her dad considered dangerous. Out of frustration, Alyanna enrolled in a summer learn-to-swim class of Rose Rodriguez. After graduation, her coach invited her to train for the CDST, but it was only after a year that Alyanna decided to train for swimming. Alyanna was in the honor's section in grade four but it was very difficult at the time to mix swimming and academics. She, however, was able to manage her time and create a system to handle both effectively. She excelled in swimming and at the same time landed among the top ten in academics. Alyanna competed in invitational meets after her training started in July 2002 and as with the other first-time swimmers, struggled in finding her niche in this field. Her first exposure to national competition was the 2002 Palarong Batang Pinoy, barely six months after plunging into serious training. She failed to win a medal but learned a lot from the experience. Like Joboy, Alyanna went on to become an outstanding swimmer. "She's a born fighter from the very start," says her mom Dr. Beth Malabanan. Alyanna was born premature and was given only 24 hours by her pediatrician to live after being brought to the incubator. The baby made the 24-hour cut but was detected to have some heart problems a week after coming out of the hospital. "She has two holes in her heart," was the finding at the Philippine Heart Center. She responded to medication and her holes disappeared after three months. Now, Alyanna swims with a big fighting heart. "Her fighting heart has always been her asset. She won't back down against seasoned rivals because of her fighting spirit," said coach Rodriguez. Alyanna's coming out party was during the Invitational Swimfest in 2003 where she was adjudged as the most outstanding swimmer in the 9-10 years old age group. From thereon Alyanna stamped her mark in various regional and national invitational by dominating the backstroke and the middle distance freestyle events. The tough girl tanker won a gold, three silvers and a bronze in the 2003 Palarong Pambansa. She also competed in the Hong Kong Manthas Invitational in 2004 and won a gold, three silvers, and a bronze medal. She made it to the national junior team in the National tryouts in Bacolod and participated in the SEA Age group meet in Brunei Darussalam. It was also during that summer that Alyanna won one gold, three silvers and a bronze in the 2005 Palarong Pambansa in Iloilo City. She hit the crossroad of her career when she passed the entrance examination for the Philippine Science High School. However, she chose to stay in Ateneo because of swimming, thereby passing up the chance for a full scholarship at a prestigious school. "I want to be an Olympian," read an entry in Alyanna's Ateneo year book. "That has been her goal ever since she started swimming. As early as in grade four she had already a plan and a goal," says her mom. Celina Gonzalez was introduced to swimming because of her cousin Joboy. But unlike Joboy, Celina did not fall in love with swimming immediately after being introduced to the pool. "She clung to me like a magnet the moment we came down to the pool. Parang linta kung makakakapit at ayaw bumitiw," was the description of Celina's mom Evelyn Gonzalez of her first day at the pool with Celina. Kaling, as she is fondly called by her dad--race driver Sonny Gonzalez, showed little interest in swimming but through her constant exposure to it she began to enjoy being in the water. She also enrolled in the same learn-to-swim class with Alyanna that summer and started right away to train with the CDST. She competed in the Bacolod Batang Pinoy in 2001. She did not win any medal but instead of being overwhelmed by the strong opposition, she vowed to train hard for revenge in the next Batang Pinoy edition. "I practically pushed her from the diving board during our practice at the pool," says coach Jun Rodriguez. Celina was intimidated, not by the opposition, but by the length of the pool. It was her first time to swim in a fifty-meter pool. After that experience, Celina was never the same person again. She transformed into a swimming dynamo. "We call her Silverado," says Coach Jun, named after the Ford service vehicle of her dad Sonny. During the 2002 Batang Pinoy in Palawan, she won two bronze medals and from thereon started to take swimming seriously. Celina was also a winner in the Palarong Pambansa and bagged six golds in the Manthas Invitaional in Hong Kong in 2004. She made the team for the 2005 SEA Age group swimming competition in Brunei where she won a bronze in the 50-meter butterfly. She also was invited to participate in the Tobeo Cup in Japan together with her cousin Joboy. Celina was adjudged as the most outstanding female athlete in swimming during the 2005 Palarong Pambansa in Iloilo City after winning three golds and two silvers. The following year she also competed in the Palaro where she won three silver medals. She also made the RP Junior team in 2006 that participated in Jakarata, Indonesia where she bagged a bronze in the 200-meter butterfly. And like Joboy and Alyanna, Celina has been a consistent honor student all throughout her elementary school days in the Ateneo. Celina excels in sprints and butterfly events. All told, the achievements of Celina, Joboy and Alyanna are simply amazing. There's no doubt all three Davao swimmers have all bright futures ahead of them. Certainly, their ultimate goal is to compete in the Olympics someday. And there's no higher honor than to compete for one's flag and country in the greatest sports show on earth. davaoeagle November 8th, 2006, 07:33 PM Hey davaoeños, can you do the next thread? For Castaño, Davao City tops the list of best investment areas in the Philippines. His second choice is Tagbilaran City then Makati City. Castaño cited five reasons why this city is a better business destination: its “excellent” peace and order situation, clean, environment, vast potential for business opportunities and growth, its wide array of business choices, and its hospitable populace. In Davao, he said, one doesn't have to worry much about pickpockets. Also, the presence of many checkpoints in the city is a good sign for business, he said. On environment, Castaño narrated that the “no smoking” policy of the city is one indicator of its clean and healthy environment. He also pointed to the proximity of the city to nature – both sea and mountain resources – and its location away from typhoons. The city, he said, has “vast potential” for business opportunities and growth "unlike in Manila where opportunities for business and growth are fewer.” "Here you can choose to go to agriculture, industry or tourism, unlike in Makati," he added. Davao, he said, has the infrastructure that Metro Manila could offer such as an "excellent" telephone system and "world-class" airport and seaports. He cited the vibrancy of local culture and the hospitable people of Davao City as an advantage over Makati and other cities. Castaño noted the increase of deposits to commercial banks in the city from P34 billion in 2004 to P40 billion last year. He downplayed negative images of Davao as perceptions and urged the public to look at the reality instead. The opening of a new branch each of two international banks, Hongkong-based HSBC and Taiwanese bank China Trust in Davao City in the last quarter this year is the best confirmation of Davao's advantage, he said. The Davao City Investment Promotions Center, in the city's website, announced 10 good reasons to invest in the city, among them linkages and accessibility; perfect weather; efficient public utilities; and its being a regional financial, educational center of southern Philippines. DCIPC also said Davao City is the most peaceful city in Southeast Asia with a monthly crime index of 0.8 cases per 10,000 persons per month. The competitive cost of doing business in the city, its pool of best professionals and laborers, its being the fruit basket of the country, investor-friendly policies and a responsive and forward-looking local government is projected as the other good reasons to choose the city for investment. tj_brewed November 9th, 2006, 09:55 PM National Youth Day opens with overwhelming excitement, emotion, passion Despite a few problems, the five-day 2006 National Youth Day (NYD) began yesterday with “overwhelming excitement, emotion, and passion.” NYD secretariat head Nilfa Bagnol said the NYD organizers did their best for the delegates to get the most out of this year’s NYD. The secretariat’s office yesterday was filled with rushed activities with the arrival and registration of delegates from all over the country. About a fourth of the delegates had arrived in Davao City earlier on Tuesday, and the influx of delegates arriving earlier than expected posed a minor problem for the organizers as to where to house them because their foster parents did not ex-pect them until yesterday. The problem was readily solved with the parishes taking in the early birds along with the special arrangements made with the foster parents to take in some of the delegates who arrived early. Another problem that the organizers are solving is housing. Bagnol said the increasing number of walk-in participants has given the organizers a minor difficulty in housing them. She said as of yester-day more than 600 partici-pants have registered and there are still quite a num-ber of them coming in. Bagnol said because of the number of walk-ins, participants coming from Davao are given the last priority to be given foster homes. She assured, however, that there are enough foster homes to take in the 6,200 to 6,500 delegates of the NYD. She said about 4,000 people signed up to be foster parents, and with maximum of two people per parent they can house 8,000 delegates. The five-piece band has a 17-year-old lady bassist who definitely should be watch out. "They don’t sound like anybody. And when I saw their performance live, I was really impressed. Parang matatanda na sila. Parang matagal na silang tumutogtog," Marasigan intimates. Effinboiche from AMA Computer College – Laguna, the lone band that has a female vocalist, is also a strong runner. "Napaka-now ng tunog nila and I think the kids will like that," comments Marasigan. Clark and NAIA are in a pissing contest to see who gets international flights. Clark is blocking opening of new airport, via legal actions, since one of the Philippine laws says that you can't have 2 international airports within 50 miles of each other. The Philippines doesn't currently have 'OPEN SKIES'. There can only be an equivalent number of flights into the Philippines from any foreign country as there are flights from the Philippines by Philippine carriers. Davao though has something different going for it. As part of the EAGA zone it has inter-Asia flights that other cities in the Philippines don't have. Thus it can have flights to/from East Asian countries without an Open Skies agreement, as part of the EAGA agreements. I believe many of the Clark flights are a result of Korean, Chinese and Japanese charter flights between the 2 countries. Don't mix up Open Skies, EAGA zone, and charter flights. They each may have different rules. unsay inyong say ani mga bai? LOYOLA Robinsons Land Corporation (RLC), one of the country’s largest real estate companies, will be making available spaces that are designed for business process outsourcing firms in its shopping mall developments in Manila, Paranaque, Cebu and Davao. Each location will have facilities of as much as 6,000 to 10,000 square meters for BPOs and call centers which will be appended to the mall area. RLC is already one of the largest landlord of BPOs and call centers in the Philippines through its various commercial centers. "We are able to provide the facilities call centers want in five of our shopping centers—Robinsons Place Novaliches in Quezon City, Robinsons Place Cainta, Robinsons Metro Bacolod, Robinsons Place Pioneer and soon in Robinsons Place Lipa in Batangas," said RLC commercial centers division general manager Cornelio Mapa, Jr. Mapa added that the presence of these call centers and BPOs complements the synergy that Robinsons shopping malls provide. "Our shopping malls provide recreational value to call center employees who look forward to having some respite after a day at work. Our locations are strategic since we are also very accessible to public transport, making it more easy for these employees to go to their work place and go home even during late hours," said Mapa. "We notice that call center employees look to the mall as a haven after a long shift. They now have a chance to catch a movie or grab a bite to eat in food establishments found in these malls", he added. Mapa also noted that BPO companies find ease in recruitment of employees because of the advantages a mall provides. Of late, large BPOs and call center operators have been on expansion modes; spreading their operations to key provinces. "RLC has likewise taken its cue from their expansion plans and are ready to accommodate new players in our shopping malls, whether here in Metro Manila or in the provinces," Mapa said adding that interested parties may contact their mall leasing executives. RLC is operating 18 shopping malls in the country today. Six are strategically located in Metro Manila while the rest are in Northern and Southern Luzon, as well as in West and Central Visayas and in Mindanao. In recent reports, the Philippines has been found to be one of the leading sites for BPOs, since it is one of the largest English speaking nations in the world. It also has over 300 software development companies, the biggest segment in the Philippines e-service industry in terms of players. According to US-based industry experts, the Philippines is in a position to capture over 10 percent market share of the global ITES and BPO outsourcing pie within the next two to three years. BPO sectors such as shared financial services, transcription and data processing services are emerging markets for the Philippines. However, the explosive and sustained growth of the contact center industry in the Philippines is expected to overshadow the other sectors. According to the BPO Association of the Philippines, the work force is expected to grow from 245,000 to 900,000 by 2010 and revenues from $ 3 billion to $ 12 billion.(JAL) xzibit31 November 11th, 2006, 05:25 AM GOOD NEWS: (copied from Mindanao Times) THE SRIWIJAYA AIRLINE YOUR FLYING PARTNER TO INDONESIA HAS DIREST FLIGHT NOW FROM MANADO/DAVAO/MANADO. MarkiiBoi November 11th, 2006, 09:48 AM Palau to import fruits from RP Article posted November 11, 2006, 3:36 pm An agreement to have Palau start importing mangoes, pineapples and other fresh fruits from the Philippines as early as December 2006 is now in the works. The Marianas Variety newspaper said the governments of Palau and the Philippines are drafting a memorandum of understanding on the matter. "(We) also received a go signal from the New Zealand government to use their bilateral quarantine agreements between them and the Philippines," it quoted the Palau Bureau of Agriculture Fred Sengebau as saying. Under the agreement, fruits such as fresh mangoes, pineapples, sweet corn and papayas will be permitted to Palau under strict quarantine conditions. Quarantine will apply to processes from production to post-harvest, to cleaning and packaging, patterned after New Zealand's regulations. Other conditions and requirements would be included in the memorandum of understanding, Sengebau said. Sengebau also said that once the memorandum of understanding is signed between Palau and the Philippines, "then we can go ahead with the importation." He set late 2006 as target of first importation, adding conditions would serve as protection purposes and not prevent pests from entering Palau. New Zealand's quarantine requirements are some of the best quarantine regulations in the world. Earlier, a trade agreement was approved after a team from Bureau of Agriculture's Plant Protection and Quarantine Services visited Davao late June to determine quarantine requirements and certify available quarantine treatment facilities for importation of fresh produce from Davao. davaoguy2 November 11th, 2006, 03:19 PM guys, yung centro supermarket sa ceterpoint plaza will be replaced by NCCC. may banner kasi na nakasabit sa labas. totoo rin po bang magtatayo ng NCCC banch sa toril? Ana pier station, for speed and style, hire a speed boat from Wind and Wave Dive Shop. The Saturday of that week is for the Indak-Indak or streetdancing. I took this photo of a performer while my friends and I were touring the city (my hometown). The photo was a pleasant surprise as it turned out better than I expected given that he was moving and I had to make sure I get the photo quickly as the next performers are coming already.
