Puffdaddy August 26th, 2005, 06:07 AM I heard 50% of the world brand goods are cosume in Japan... but is that true?? Sorry for a guy who have to buy one for them.... ><
The Cebuano Exultor August 26th, 2005, 10:21 AM Now this certainly shows that Tokyo is definitely the luxury brand capital in the world. I believe it has far more luxury-brand "epicenter" flagship mega-stores in the world. Even Paris pales in comparison. :)
The Japanese are the ultimate consumers of luxury goods in the world. According to Time Fashion Magazine Japan accounts for 47% of the worldwide luxury sales annually. If the japanese close their purses and wallets to these luxury items the luxury-brands would have a serious crisis on their hands.
I wonder why the Japanese, so conservative about their language and homogenity, are so obsessed about the status of having luxury-items? I mean, most young female Tokyoites has either a Prada, Burberry, Louis Vuitton, or even Tod's item. This just startles me.Hehehe :)

Rene Nunez September 3rd, 2005, 11:02 PM Why arent there more homeless Japanese????? With rents, clothes, & EVERYTHING being sooo expensive, how can they bare to buy that Louis Vuitton bag every season? They are America's consumer dream...I am so baffled.....

Not everything is "sooo expensive", starting with internet access.

The Japnese ecomonic system is kind of different to the American one.Without going into too much detail it works on it being 10 percent super rich and 85 percent middle class.5 percet are drop outs who just do the odd job here and there and dont bother anyone
The Middle Class are the ones who consume massive amounts. My girlfriend, who is a high school teacher, erns about 3500 US a month plus a 5,000 dollar bonus twice a year. All fulltime workers in Japan get this bonus. She has 4 Gucchi bags and a diamond Rolex. Its this bonus money that goes on Gucchi and other stuff.

Internet access isn't that bad at all in Japan. A great thing is, the Internet cafes. They are open 24 hours and just offer everything you need and FREE DRINKS (except alcohols). Night pack is cheaper and you can virtually stay there over night in an individual compartment. It's got shower rooms, snack shops, etc. The room has TV, DVD and games. I don't think anywhere in the world can compare to this.

There is a significant homeless contingent, but they don't receive a lot of publicity. Just go to Ueno park in Tokyo and they're everywhere.

My favourite netcafe in Tokyo is Gran Cyber Cafe (Club Bagus). It's cosy and nice: http://www.bagus-99.com/manga/ It's also got snooker club, karaoke club, restaurant, etc.
