Hardangerbrua
Rv. 7/13 Hardanger bridge in Ullensvang and Ulvik County in Hordaland.

The Hardanger bridge is planned as a 2 lane suspension bridge with lane for bicycles and pedestrians. The bridge will have a main span of 1310m and a
total length of 1380m. The bridge towers will elevate to 200 m above sea level. The project also includes 2,4km tunnels and 0,8km of new roads. In
addition the project consists of a new bicycle and pedestrian lane of 0, 9 km approaching the bridge.

The Hardanger bridge was approved by the Norwegian Parliament (Storting) on February 28 th. 2006. The bridge planning will be performed by the
Norwegian public road administration department of bridges, with support from private bridge consultants. Construction works started on February 26
th. 2009 and will be completed in 2013. Estimated costs is 2.3 billion NOK (2009 price level).

ah, nice :)

Saves you the ferry ride that is about 15 minutes (guess.) but more importantly saves you to wait 20 minutes to one hour if you just missed the departure and stays open all night :) 15km shorter via Rv7 than Rv52 and 30km shorter than E16.

When Sokna - Ørgenvika is complete it will shave of 20km more for Rv7, considering this road is salted while E16 has snowcover i don't see the reason for using E16 for Oslo - Bergen.

Hardangervidda is still a mess to cross during winter, ideally a long tunnel here would make for an efficient highway as the only real bad parts of this road get's fixed up with Vossepakko :)

Tungt løft i Hardanger

Vekta på ein slik dings er 13 tonn, og salen står no 185 meter over havet, ved toppen av ein seks meter høg tverrbjelke, eller rigel, som det heiter på fagspråket, mellom dei to beina i brutårnet på Bu-sida.

Salen er av spesialstål og skal halda berekablane på hengebrua i rett spor gjennom hol oppe ved toppen av brutårna. Det nyttar ikkje med betong til slikt.

Komplisert
I morgon skal salen på det andre beinet til vêrs.

- Det blir ei meir komplisert affære, seier Kjell Neset, driftsleiar i Veidekke for arbeidet på denne sida av fjorden.

Tårnet på Vallaviksida har ikkje nådd rett høgde enno, fordi støypinga der tok til seinare.

- Fordi det andre beinet står lengre frå fundamentet til krana. Med 13 tonn på kroken, kan vi ikkje nytta dei ytre delane av armen på krana, seier Neset.

- Vi monterer hjul på salen. Lyftar han opp på rigelen, så langt ut som krana toler, og så trillar vi han på plass.

Tårna til Hardangerbrua er ferdig støypte i veke 19. [11.05.2011]

- Dette er ein stor milepel for bruarbeidet, seier prosjektleiar Øivind L. Søvik i Statens vegvesen. Han har klatra opp siste stegen til 202,5 meters høgd over den solblanke fjorden i Vallavik.

Noko etter planen
Brumannskapa til Veidekke festa firma-vimpelen i Vallavik-tårnet 9.mai. Tre dagar seinare er også siste støypen i tårnhuset på Bu fullført. No står det att fjerning av forskaling og deretter nedrigging av anleggsheis og byggekran, før stålentreprenøren kjem inn og tek over stafetten med bygging av Hardangerbrua.

Betongarbeidet på fundament til brutårn starta på Bu i oktober 2009, og i Vallavik i januar 2010. Tårnet i Vallavik er 8 meter kortare, men båe rager 202,5 meter over fjorden.

- Arbeidet ligg noko etter framdriftsplanen, slik at MT Højgaard får tilgang til tårna nokre veker seinare enn forventa. Dette skal likevel ikkje ha innverknad på planane om opning av Hardangerbrua juni 2013, seier Søvik.

Forankring overlevert
Det pågår også arbeid med bygging av vidaukt mellom tunnel og tårn på båe sider av fjorden. Forankringsanlegga i Vallavik og på Bu er overleverte frå betong- til stålentreprenør i løpet av våren. I mai kjem også resten av kabeltråd-leveransen frå England til Bu, der entreprenøren startar kabelspinning så snart catwalken er ferdig bygt på slutten av sommaren.

Spreiesadlane monterte på Hardangerbrua

Dei 4 spreiesadlane er no på plass i forankringsanlegget på Hardangerbrua.

Sadlane veg kring 23 tonn kvar, og blei løfta varsamt på plass med kranbil. Med millimeterpresisjon i innmålinga
blei dei trekantforma stålkonstruksjonane monterte øvst i spreiekamra.

Dansk-norske løft
Det var same utstyr og mannskap som utførte heile oppdraget, og det gjekk med to lange arbeidsdagar før sadlane
kom på plass både i Vallavik og på Bu.

Montasje av spreiesadlane er ein del av entreprisen på stålarbeid som danske MTHøjgaard skal gjennomføra for
Statens vegvesen. Danskane har eigne operatørar som utførar montasjearbeid på Hardangerbrua.

Til å løfta tilsaman 92 tonn med spreiesadel hadde ein hjelp av kranbil og mannskap frå norske Vest-kran, som
har hatt oppdrag også med betongentreprisen på det største hengebruprosjektet i Norge.

Bygde i England
Spreiesadlane ligg øvst og lengst framme mot dagen i forankringsområdet. Gjennom sadlane vil dei to kabelbuntane
bli spreidde til 19 einskildkablar gjennom det meir enn 20 meter lange spreiekammeret.

Dei 4 spreiesadlane er bygde av Goodwin i Stoke-on-Trent i England. Same verkstaden har og bygd dei 4 tårnsadlane,
som blei løfta på plass opp i brutårna i mars i år.

Arbeid over fjorden på Hardangerbrua

I midten av juli startar arbeidet i fjordspennet mellom tårna til Hardangerbrua. Det vil bli periodevis stenging for skipstrafikken. Men dette vil bli prøvd tilpassa passering av cruise-skip til og frå Eidfjord og Ulvik.

Entreprenør og byggherre har tidlegare i år hatt ein møterunde med Kystverket, Eidfjord cruisehamn og kommunane i Indre Hardanger om bruarbeidet som skal skje i fjordspennet frå juli og i periodar fram til mai 2012, når køyrebane-seksjonane skal vera på plass.

Tett kontakt
Det er lagt opp til ein tett kontakt mellom stålentreprenør MT Højgaard og cruise-skipa sin kontaktperson i Eidfjord og Ulvik, slik at ein skal unngå at cruise-skip må ankra opp undervegs til og frå hamn i Indre Hardanger.

På møta er det også opplyst at det rimeleg nok er stor interessa ombord på cruise-skipa for bruarbeidet, som er svært godt synleg når skipa seglar forbi dei to byggjeplassane, der brutårna har stått ferdige sidan i mai i år. Nokre av turistskipa har lagt inn lenke til Statens vegvesen si heimeside om Hardangebrua i det tilbodet passasjerane har på sin lugar-PC.

Catwalk-bygging
Den såkalla catwalken blir bygd i juli og august. Dette er ein arbeidsplattform som skal henga i fjordspennet mellom brutårna. I september reknar ein med å starta kabelspinninga, som ikkje vil påverka skipstrafikken.
Men første halvdel av mai i 2012 er det planen å heisa opp dei 23 køyrebaneseksjonane frå eit kinesisk skip som ligg i fjorden. Då er det behov for stenging i fjordspennet i minst 6 timar om gongen, med omlag 6 timars opphald mellom kvar heise-operasjon. Også dette vil bli prøvd tilpassa cruise-trafikken i Hardanger.

Den nye høgdebegrensinga i periodar mellom 15. juli 2011 og 12. mai 2012 vil bli kunngjort i pressa.

^^ The webcam has shown the "same" image several days now; the last section is not brought in line with the rest, looks like it doesn't fit. I hope it's not because their calculations are faulty :nuts:

I guess they might be adjusting the end ramp a bit forward or backward to make up any deviation, before they plug it in.

^^ I understand that they can't have snow which accumulates into ice which will then fall 100 meters and hit one of the workers. But how is this solved on similar constructions, and in the future for this bridge, to shield any person below it when it's in normal use? Even a small piece of ice will break a windshield or send a pedestrian to his creator. Anyone knows how ice is kept from these constructions?

On the George Washington Bridge, NY, an alternative removal approach is employed, in which the
hangers are hit with a baseball bat.

That would solve problems both of ice and problematic local youth (and/or unemployment). Other than that, they conclude that no energy-efficient, reliable way of de-icing exists at the time of writing. But there were some promising use of electric pulses to heat only the coating around the cables, so a thin layer of ice would melt and cause the ice to fall off. In any case, seems like other bridges around Scandinavia are frequently closed for de-icing. I don't have any bridges like that nearby, so not sure if this is normal in Norway too.
