These two cities occupy a similar area, have similar populations, and are both regarded to have fantastic skylines and impressive buildings. But which city do you personally favour over the other? Here are some pictures in order to help you make up your mind.
New York (NY):

NYC. I love Hong Kong, but there is very little "architecture" in the city before the 1970's.
New York has everything from huge gothic cathedrals ( St. John's and St. Patricks ), to art deco masterpices, to modern skyscrapers.
Take the "architecture" part out of the question, and then I might be tempted to vote for Hong Kong. But I would not put Hong Kong in the top five when considering architecture because almost everything is new there.

This is not fair to me for voting, but HK is really better NY in skyline.
Because we can enjoy/see the skyline of HK from different angles.
From Kowloon side(TST) to HK , from HK side(Central,Wan Chai) to Kowloon , from the peak to see the entier kowloon peninsula & from the top of Lion rock to see entire HK, Kowloon & New territory(Sha Tin).
NY is also impressive in skyline, but compare with HK's will be.........!

NYC. Never been to HK though. But i just love the artdeco architecture of NYC buildings. And there're not many major cities that have as many artdeco skyscrapers as NYC.

Skyline = Hong Kong
Architecture = New York

Both = New York (just) - will change by the end of the decade
