The newly built Greek tanker “MARATHON” (180,000 GT) delivered by the Japanese IMABARI SHIPBUILDING Co., Ltd. to the Greek TSAKOS SHIPPING AND TRADING, S.A. at the Koyo shipyards on the 24th of January, 2003.
In this context, over the recent months of 2002 and the first two months of 2003, apart from the “MAYA” and “MARATHON” tankers, the following newly built ships have already been delivered as well or are scheduled to be delivered by Japanese shipbuilding companies to respective Greek shipping groups:
· Tankers “FANTASY” (57,683 GT) and “FIDELITY” (57,683 GT) were delivered by the Japanese Shipbuilding Company TSUNEISHI ZOSEN Co. Ltd. to the Greek CERES HELLENIC SHIPPING ENTERPRISES Ltd. at the TSUNEISHI ZOSEN shipyard in Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture in Shikoku
· Tanker “LITA” (56,573 GT) was delivered by the Japanese Shipbuilding Company NAMURA SHIPBUILDING Co. Ltd., to the Greek CERES HELLENIC SHIPPING ENTERPRISES Ltd. at the NAMURA SHIPBUILDING shipyard in Imari, Saga Prefecture, Kyushu.
· Tanker “PAROS” (78,845 GT) was delivered by the UNIVERSAL SHIPBUILDING CORPORATION to the Greek KYKLADES MARITIME CORPORATION at the UNIVERSAL SHIPBUILDING CORPORATION shipyard in Tsu, Mie Prefecture.
· Tanker “ANAFI: (78,000 GT) also from the UNIVERSAL SHIPBUILDING CORPORATION to the Greek ANAFI MARITIME LIMITED Co. was delivered at the UNIVERSAL SHIPBUILDING CORPORATION shipyard in Tsu, Mie Prefecture.
· The same Japanese shipbuilding company will deliver the panamax type tanker “POETIC” (78,000 GT) to the Greek Shipping Company NEREUS SHIPPING S.A. at the UNIVERSAL SHIPBUILDING CORPORATION shipyard in Tsu, Mie Prefecture.
· The Japanese Shipbuilders SANOYAS HISHINO MEISHO CORPORATION are going to organize the traditional ceremony of the naming and delivering of the newly built Super – Handimark bulk – carriers M/V “NISSOS KYPROS” (55,000 GT) and M/V “NISSOS CHIOS” (55,000 GT) belonging to the Greek ownership’s POUNENTES and TRAMONTANA SHIPPING COMPANIES based in London, UK, at the dockyard of the Mizushima Shipyard, KURASHIKI.
A number also of second-hand Japanese ships have been sold recently to Greek shipowners. It was thus the general cargo ship “AGHIOS MAKARIOS” (47,800 GT), which was transferred by the Japanese MAILIN MARITIME S.A. to the Greek X-RAV SHIPPING S.A. based in Piraeus, Greece.
It should be mentioned on this occasion, that this flourishing longstanding maritime relationship between Japan and Greece as well Japan and Europe will be addressed on the occasion of a maritime symposium on the Japanese European cooperation on the shipping industry, in the face of the requirements of the demanding 21st century, to be organized by the EU Greek Presidency and EU Delegation in Tokyo, on the 13th of June 2003. More details on the symposium will be presented in the upcoming press releases.
