Milan is booming ! For the first time since the 60's Milan will have many skyscrapers taller than the famous Pirelli scraper (127 m) designed by Giò Ponti. It's in the area once occupied by the Milan's Fair, The winner proposal by Libeskind-Hadid-Isozaki is articolated around three tall towers (218 m / 185 m / 170 m) surronded by a park with channels. This big project for 5000 people-apartment and the same number for offices will change the skyline of the capital of Lombardy in a fantastic way. The project comprends even the new museum of design. This three scrapers with the recently approved new scraper for the Regione Lombardia (160 m by Pei), the one designed by Cesar Pelli for the city of the fashion (140 m) and the new one for the Comune di Milano (140 m) will have a strong impact over the city.

Well it looks way better than the Transamerica Tower. Anyway, just because one tower was built in a pyramid doesn't mean that other cities cannot build a different version of it. Many tower has a different version of it so what's wrong on building one that is better?

I think that LBT is one of the best skyscraper proposals anywhere at the moment and I would far rather have this one than the latest Freedom Tower design.

Unfortunately, though the renderings get better, there is still a long way to go before we see the completed building, or even work starting on site.

In most of Britains major cities, new tall buildings are proposed or under construction. Whilst it is unrealistic and undesirable that our cities try to emulate the Manhattan or Hong Kong skylines, what we are seeing is a great improvement in designs over the last major tranche of tall building development in the 60s and 70s, as you can see by comparing LBT with the Guys Hospital tower next door to it.

My favourite proposed skyscraper is Liverpool's West Tower, which has just commenced construction and will be the tallest building in our city and the second tallest UK building outside of London:

^^Scaling is wrong though

The height isn't that ridiculous to make it a fantasy, nor is it listed as one on Emporis. There is a website for it: http://www.fordhamcospire.com

From our "inside" information, there are nearly 1000 people on the waiting list for this tower, well over the 200-250 units planned.

The main hurdles that need to be passed are finalizing the design, approval from the city (the Mayor said he was excited about it), keeping SOAR from opposing it (could be kept quiet through donations to a nearby park, etc.) and financing. And then finding a 5+ Star hotel that isn't already in or planning to be in Chicago.

I made it up before an official render was released for the site. Interestingly, the actual condo (though much more restrained than my invention) shares some simillarities (shards). I think is quite elegant... it's the tower in the BOTTOM LEFT, attached to the Libeskind Crystal (u/c).

Ya i like London's project a lot better. It just looks too amazing. One thing though, the design looks like a pure rip off of the SF pyramid tower.

The Noida Tower is supposed to be the tallest in the world. There is some info on emporis website. I must agree though that I do not really like the look right now. I am pretty sure that it will change though, because the architects are good. They have built fancy buildings in Dubai.

spyguy
September 23rd, 2005, 05:25 AM
It most likely won't be the tallest anymore. Still in the top 5 probably, but not at the heights of Dubai. But that's still impressive for India, considering it lacks anything in the top 300 I think, and with one huge thing of towers will go to near the top.

My favourite proposal, after new renders were released recently:

Vision Tower, Brisbane
Height is 246m to roof with approval pending for a spire to 280m which would make it the third tallest building in Australia after Q1 and Eureka.

It's a shame that Chicago couldn't have 7SD after the FAA didn't approove its height back in 2001, and this was before 9/11, not after it.

How possible is it that the proposals for Milan get built?
Well, from the economic point of view, the project has about 10% of chances to get built, from the demographic view (Milan is shrinking fastly) it is 2% and from the need of new offices the chances could be 40%... in 2020! :)

London's skyline is going through an amazing transformation, remember when only the London bridge and Parliament were the only recognizable structures. Dubai, has no words to describe its ascent to the top 3 or 5 of most intriguing skylines.

I wrotean e-mail to the investor Vivico. A part of it is under construction. The two darker shorter towers ( Tower 1 with 210m and Tower 2 with 180m)may get built next year, the Millennium Tower and tower 185 a and b (hidden behind the Millennium Tower can get built as soon as Vivico and the city's administration stop quarreling about the shopping areas around! ;) :sleepy:
