Hi everyone. I will be in Thailand from late this year into the first couple of weeks of Jan. '06. I was wondering if any of you have a sugguestion on what hotel would be good for visitors who only have been to Bangkok for once or twice prior. I'd prefer something walking distance to the Skytrain or subway. My friends have a budget of around $60 - $80 a day. I like the Novotel at Siam Square, but was wondering if there are any other good alternatives. Any recommendation is welcome. Thanks in advance.

I'd like my friends to be located somewhere along the sukhumvit corridor. I will be at my finacee's/wife's aunt's house in Soi Thonglor. It'd be preferable to be close to the hotel so that we won't be too far from them.

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. If you can think of any specific hotel, please let me know.

Asia Hotel is the only hotel in Bangkok has a direct linkage with 1 of their SkyTrain stations but they are not your Westin, Corad nor SukhoThai leagues of Hotels.

The "Pratumwan Princess Hotel" (for your budget of US$60-80) at the "National Stadium" skytrain station is perfect for out-of-towners because its located within the giant MBK shopping mall, and connects by skywalk (thru the Tokyu Department store) to the skytrain and also the Siam Discovery Center and Siam Center.

I put alot of my out-of-town friends (from California, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc.) with similiar budgets there and even stayed with them :D and really liked the GIANT pool and gym  its also centrally located for newbie tourists and a great central intro base for shops, restaurants, close to clubbing zones of Sukhumvit and other places, right on the skytrain route AND cheap!!! (when the Siam Paragon opens it will even be better!! but will likely be booked-up all the time)...tourists feel like they are in the middle of the action!

For older out-of-town friends and for people like friends of parents or aunts and uncles with deeper pockets and quieter/luxury tastes :) , I put them in the Four Seasons or Hyatt Erawan (if they dont like my first choices of Sukhothai, Metropolitan or Peninsula)....and for friends of grandma/grandpa, I put them in the Oriental because its older fashion, but lux on the river :)

yes but it is gng 2 b difficult to get a room @ USD60-80. their rates are forever soaring.

actually their "superior rooms" are in that range, taxes and service charges included.....

their "deluxe rooms" are in the 90US$ range, including taxes and service and their "execuplus suites" are a bit higher......

they are always packed full of tourists/visitors especially during holidays seasons (like "shrunkenhead" is taking about) so you really better book way ahead on "asiarooms.com" or "latestay.com"....

as the central area shopping zone becomes more developed (with Siam Paragon opening around this Christmas and the new Central World opening next year) I bet that rates will go up a bit and they will still be packed :) but its still good value...

Thanks everyone for you input. I will look into the Pratumwan Princess and Westin. I'm glad someone had actually stayed there and was able to give feedback. I personally would like to stay at the Sukhothai myself, but probably should save my money for the wedding expense. One of these days I'll have to make it there. We stayed at the Oriental earlier this year when we came for my brother's wedding. Man, the service there is unbelieveable. They are awsome. Although, I don't want to make a habit of spending $200+ on a hotel room. :) So, won't be staying in a place like that too much in the future.

Thank you, Khun Kalix. I'm very excited about this trip. Can't wait to see the family and old friends. I'll definitely check out Imperial Queen's Park along with others. I'm sure I can locate its rate on the internet.

Is a nice hotel and good location, It had also a very nice fitness ctr and standard swiming pool that BEST in town :okay:

But the superior room too small for rest and better to take deluxe one ;)

Also, Superb breakfast and nice late entertainment at basement :)

Nowaday anything on the BTS line is considered 'closed' to Thonglor area to me. :) I still can't believe how fast we can go from one end of the line to Siam area now. I'll definitely keep Pratumwan Princess as an option. I'll have to discuss this with my friends, however. Thanks for the feedback. :)
