Down the street from my house at BP regular is $3.29 and at Citgo regular is $3.31.

I live 5 minutes outside of Northwest DC.

What are we going to do?

wake up to reality... we've been riding the cheap gas wave for too long...

and all in all an extra dollar for a gallon of gas isn't going to make that big of a difference to most people...other than being a general pain in the ass...

I just heard a radio report saying gas was $5.99 in Atlanta
It close to $4.00 now here in South Carolina...that is if you can FIND it!!

no no its not... and do you want to know how i know this?

gas has gone up 40% in the past year... do you see 40% less drivers on the road? no you see more and more demand... so obviously the price increase isn't hurting people that much b/c they continue to buy...

even if you spent $50 a week on gas last year you would only be spending $20 dollars a week more today... if you can't afford $20 a week more for gas then you probably shouldn't be owning a car then...

it would be like going out and buying a playstation but not having any money to buy games for it... you gotta pay to play... and we have been getting a discount for far too long

^ I see the point, and I agree. I have agreed ever since this whole deal started when gas was a few cents more and people were up in arms, its just cents. So I dont eat out one day, its not a huge deal.

As far as those prices, that is outragous, I just got off the phone with my mom in LA who said that her gas was only at about 3.39 and ours in Louisville is plentiful as can be at 3.09.

Also just to add one more thing. Does anyone think it is silly that the gas prices go up so sharply in anticipation of Katrina's extra costs, even though alot of the gas stations already had fuel from before the storm that wasnt pruchased at a high price?

You cant speak for every American. Its one thing to disagree with a comment, but its another to be brazen enough to dictate people's financial situation. I live one of the richest states (and counties) in the country and everyone hear is talking about the spike in gas prices.

yeah its water cooler talk... its like talking about the weather... people complain its too cold or too hot ... people complain gas is too expensive... the realities of it is that gas prices just like the weather don't really dictate people's lives that much...

I think everyone would talk about milk if it was a couple dollars more, doesnt mean they cant do it.

a gallon of milk is right around $3 but i don't hear too many complaining? hell its even an entirely renewable resource...

if some people just didn't buy their 1.50 bottle of spring water and their 3 dollar venti coffee from starbucks every morning they could handle and extra buck for gas at the pump

It was $ 3.89 in chicago, but only one gas station, because that gas station is self-fish and probably taking advantage of a natural disaster for its on good, since other gas stations around chicago were only $3.29...(it was on tv)

No Azn_chi,

I have seen 3.30-3.60 in Albany Park, Lincoln Square, and in Niles. The price of gas will continue to rise as a result of Katrina throughout Chicago, and the country.

Since people in other countries are paying over $4 a gallon of gas then we should be fine, if gas is to high for you then sell your car and take the bus.

By the way you can type in "yourcity"gasprices.com and pretty much find an average. Atlanta being 5.99 is rediculous whoever said that. I think that if it was that high though id be pretty pissed LOL. 3.50 is one thing but 5-6 is a whole nother story 50 bucks for 10 gallons.

well i can understand right now... since the south east has lost most of its refining capacity...but normally its cheaper though right?

Are any gas stations in your city putting gas cap prices like Hawaii? Some of the gas station owners in Boston has either put a cap on it or totally shut down because they don't enjoy hearing the p.o. words from customers and such are doing as much to help them.

The difference between those other high prices around the World is that most of the price goes to taxes to fund public transport and what not. Here in the States its goign to Oil companies who already have the highest profits of any major American industry.

Huntsville's gas is still under $3 (even premium), but by tomorrow morning, it won't be. Prices here jumped $.20 in less than 10 hours today.

And that Atlanta gas station that is selling for over $6- Someone should be arrested for that.

there is still a large percentage of tax on every gallon of gas in some states... a few years ago it was something like 40 cents per gallon tax on gas in NYS...at that time that would have been like a quarter of the price...

The highest gas prices I've seen here in South Carolina are at $ 3.19 for regular unleaded. But I found cheaper gas at Hess around $2.69. For SC that is still considered high though. A few days ago it was peaking at around 2.39. I was told that there will be shortages for the Carolinas over the next few weeks because of damage to a pipeline or something. If you ask me, the prices are ridiculous. But you know what? You guys take these comforts for granted. Public transportation (except for some major American U.S. cities and urban areas) is virtually non - existent. SUV you say? I haven't seen so many SUV's in one place! Those people will be hit the hardest I think.

average gas price in Seattle about $2.80 per gallon and many stations in $2.70-2.90 range for regular gas. Lowest I can find $2.61 and highest $2.99 for regular.

Don't even start comparing us to europe where they tax the hell out of it. We are the ones who founded the gas in the mid-east in the first place.

Um countries who have much higher have efficient Public transportation. Americans don't. I love jackasses who justify being fucked over.

did i say europe at all in my post? i'm pretty sure i didn't... let me check again...nope no europe...

regardless of what anyone else pays for gasoline the fact is that OIL, pre refined OIL, is an extremely valuable resource that we have demonstrated we are willing to pay much more for than we already do...

the fact that there is still a very strong demand for OIL even at over $3 demonstrates by way of 'supply and demand' that the reasonable price of oil is certainly higher than it has been for the past few years...

in a market economy, you pay what the demand and supply dictate...right now that is over $3 a gallon, get over it... if you can't afford to fill up your gas tank then you can't afford to own a car, its that simple...

as for you second point... how is that even an arguement? i'm not even sure that its accurate... but anyway, just b/c some country makes a discovery some where doesn't mean they automatically own it forever...

does the US own the moon? or better yet do native american people's own the entire continents of north and south america?

Just wanted to add a little note here. I think gas prices are going up all over the world at the momemt. Tomorrow we'll hit a record high 7+ USD (pr. gallon) here in Denmark.

Architorture

well that is a reflection of the price of a barrel of oil going up...

the price of a gallon of gasoline in the US has flucuated so much in the past few months b/c of the US refining capacity which is struggling to meet the demand... you add that to more expresive raw oil and then take away a significant percentage of the refining capacity that was already struggling and you get what we have today...

if a barrel of oil was $70 but the US had a more robust refining industry the average price of a gallon of gasoline would probably be floating around $2 right now...although the oil prices are a problem...the refining is a much bigger one

I think that one of the reasons why Atlanta was so high is because the pipeline that goes to the northeast was pretty damaged. But even if that was the reason it was still really over priced.

And in Houston the average is $2.85 a gallon for regular with the lowest being $2.42 and the highest being $3.09 according to www.Houstongasprices.com.
