View Full Version : Reno - USA
Oaronuviss February 14th, 2003, 01:20 AM Had to steal Tony's idea... This city is barely brought up on the threads! Population: 175,000. ;)
Quainte little city center/skyline.

Tony, feel free to post your great pics as well. I don't want to steal them. :)
SteelCity32 February 14th, 2003, 03:05 AM ah nice. and the geographical backround adds to it.
7/10
Caledon1981 February 14th, 2003, 10:57 AM 2 for the size/pop. and + 6 for pbeing in the desert!! = 8/10
renell February 14th, 2003, 06:23 PM a big skyline for a small population 5.5
Muse February 14th, 2003, 06:30 PM The mid-rise structures are colorful @ night and in the twighlight. In the day light many of the buildings look 70s and 80s (not always a bad thing). I particularly like the glass cladded mid-rise with the Cal-Neva neon and the flag mast on top.
Even though Australia's Adelaide has a taller skyline than Reno, they are very similar.
FYI Pics. of Adelaide, for comparative reasons:

Rating for Reno: 6.5
kiku99 February 15th, 2003, 01:30 AM pretty cool at night. I've never been to Reno. But i heard that it's just like 2nd Las Vegas..right?
Eduardo Lopez February 15th, 2003, 03:27 AM a 7/10 is fair.. beautiful, i like it a lot for it's size.
1+2=3 February 15th, 2003, 04:21 PM Wow! Beautifull pic! (the fifth one in this thread)
Skyline: 6/10
Pablo February 15th, 2003, 04:35 PM a big ball, sore eyes for that city
DrumCorpsAlum February 28th, 2003, 05:26 PM Reno just doesn't impress me at all. I never heave liked the cities that are only built up for tourists and guests. That includes beach skylines with condos. I prefer the reflective glass corporate skylines. The ball is a nice contrast from the boxes however. The mountains offer something to look at as well. 6.5/10 for not being spread out.

But the population is a lot different
Reno: 175000
Adelaide: about 1-1.2 million
SeeMacau March 1st, 2003, 01:00 AM I guess half of the city buildings are casinos and hotels
Great skyline for this small city 9/10
Wu-Gambino March 1st, 2003, 01:28 AM Ver suprising! 6.5
Username March 1st, 2003, 04:23 AM Little height, but it's a small city so I'll let it slide.
I give it a 6.5/10 because it kicks Las Vegas's ass.
Hacksaw March 1st, 2003, 03:00 PM Not a bad skyline for such a tiny population. 6.5
BGT April 18th, 2003, 02:19 AM 6/10 It's not that good in person.
Fabio July 31st, 2003, 08:48 AM 6.5/10
On the average.
Evergrey August 15th, 2003, 04:56 PM 0/10
Reno is a non-city... it's Las Vegas on a small scale. Boo.
Aquarius November 21st, 2003, 11:03 PM no building of than 20 plants, quite more dense for an American small city, 6,5/10
Schroedinger's Cat April 7th, 2004, 10:56 AM 6/10

dj_metroid August 14th, 2004, 07:45 AM 9/10.....and yes, I'm being biased cus' I live here... Its always reminded me of emerald city from the "wizard of oz".
LouisvilleJake January 5th, 2005, 02:41 AM I love the building in Reno along i-80 that is clad is HOT GOLD GLASS. Super 70's glam. I like Reno, and had good times when we would fly into Reno and stay a few days before trekking to southern Oregon. 7/10
Icnignot January 5th, 2005, 05:33 AM What a nice little skyline for a small background though without the desert background this would have been about a 4
.

7 :)
i_am_hydrogen January 13th, 2005, 10:45 AM 5.0/10 - I've driven through Reno a million times on my way to California. The skyline is not very impressive. And the way it's lit up at night is tacky. However, there is some marginal density that's worth a 5.0
hauntedheadnc January 14th, 2005, 12:26 AM Though I can't get the pics here to show up for me, I've seen others on another forum. Reno is a place that does tacky right. That's hard to do, and in recognition of that fact, I give it a 7.
rufi January 14th, 2005, 04:50 AM I have been there and well ... sorry... but I didn't like it. Ugly and like Vegas in small. I don't want to hurt any feelings
MIMICA January 14th, 2005, 06:56 AM i don't really like the look of the "skyline" but hey, for the size of the city, it's an excellent start! :)
7/10:)
DamienK January 14th, 2005, 12:07 PM 7/10

Nouvellecosse August 14th, 2006, 08:54 PM After reading the whole thread, the only pics I've seen r of Perth. :sleepy:
diz August 15th, 2006, 02:08 AM Yay. The Biggest Little City On Earth! Wonderful. 9/10
Pelha September 1st, 2006, 05:53 AM 8/10
Whiked918 September 2nd, 2006, 09:40 AM I like Reno. I'm actually considering moving there. It's a fun town and there is plenty of room for growth. It could use some more high rises and it looks like some are in progress. I believe it needs an iconic type building. The Silver Legacy's dome is great but I think it needs more. I gave it 8/10. Coperate office towers tend to be a bit bland so with a fun city like this it needs to go in a different direction.

bigdave26 January 10th, 2008, 06:56 AM 9/10, although I am very biased. I plan on eventually moving there in a year or so. Here are some more skyline pics, remember it is growing very quickly, it is now about 220k people:

I agree that they need an iconic building. Here is the one with the best chance of being built. The Waterfront Towers, condos:
http://www.downtownmakeover.com/downtown_reno/images/Waterfront.jpg
They would become the tallest towers in Reno.
JRQ February 23rd, 2008, 07:10 PM Wow, very nice. I'm impressed.
For it's location and small population, I give it a 9.5/10.
