Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) signed a contracting and supervisory contract worth QR50m — excluding the land value — for the construction of a proposed 15-storeyed hotel in the Al Ghanem Ul Qadeem area, a news release said yesterday.

The contract has been signed by Abdul Rahman Mustafa, QIB's Acting General Manager, Ashraf Rushdi, Executive Manager, Investment and Hussein H Delir, general manager of Hassansco Company for Trading and Contracting, assigned for the execution of the project, and Ghassan Al Ya'coub, representative of the Consultant S W Urban Bureau.

Speaking on the occasion, A R Mustafa said that Istissna' contracts widely used by QIB in project financing became a modular leading success among Islamic banks. He emphasized the impressive role this type of financing played in funding sizeable construction projects in Qatar and in particular commercial, office and residential towers, schools etc.

The project would consist of 12 typical storeys plus a two-layer underground in addition to the ground and mezzanine floors, said the consultant. He added that the hotel, planned to be a four or five stars, depending on Qatar Hotels Company's classification, would consist of 200 rooms, 20 small wings and six large wings plus three different restaurants, and several other conventional facilities and a car park for 70 cars.

The owner, Faleh M Hamad Al Nassr, said that traditional Qatari architecture will be seen in the building facades and internal designs of the hotel which will be run by a leading local company

It's such a shame to spoil the glassy facade with traditional architecture.
By the way, where's fareej alghanem is located? is it where all those pathanis live?

Shtgol ya akhi? ana bilmot 3raft win el do7a eljdidah, tbini halmara a3rf win freej alghanem? min zod hali ihnak 3ad!!!!!!

As for the hotel's glassy facade, i believe the case with Brazan tower is different. u see, @ Barzan tower there was arab & modern mixture of architecture, as they say in french 'un peu de deux" little of both. it was new to Doha's buildings, never done b4 & was great then. but involving traditional architecture in every project is somehow too much, and i believe Abu samrah border customs & Hamad aquatic sports centre is a vivid proof. i'm pro traditional architecture myself, but i don't expect anybody to shove their fake patriotism down our throat by employing traditional architecture in almost every project that's not even a mueseum, cultural centre, theater or even a villa, where in my opinion are the typical ground for traditional architecture.

of all the revolutionary designs in modern architecture, resorting to traditional architecture is a sign of uncreativity, bad taste & lack of artistic imagination, with exception to Qatar Foundation buildings & Belhambar restaurant. Phew, boy i'm glad i've got it off my chest!!! :) :) :)

you have a lot of good point wakrai.. i guess its a matter of taste... i think its important to build a character for a city.. doha is losing its character because anyone with a piece of land and enough money builds his own tower in a design that is completly independent of its surrondings.. even the glass facade are in different colors. Im not saying that all tower should look alike, but they should at least match or even better share the same theme.

Some traditional arch. is good while others suck !! for example look emirites tower, such a wonderful building (i wish our dewan would look like that !) and also barzan.

i guess having a bit of everything.. as long as their is enough car parks is ok !
