So, which one is better?
DarkFenX September 8th, 2005, 02:51 AM Freedom Tower for me but slightly. I just don't really like how boxy Sears Tower was.
Skoulikimou September 8th, 2005, 03:03 AM i will go with Freedom Tower ,i think it will be more iconic tower because of the history behind it(9/11...etc)
You are to blame September 8th, 2005, 03:10 AM Sears by a long shot. that spire on FT looks god aweful :puke:. I think NYC should look at dubai to see how to build fantastic supertalls
city of the future September 8th, 2005, 03:11 AM I love the Sears tower and I love S.O.M's towers, gotta go with Sears Tower!
Travis007 September 8th, 2005, 03:32 AM Sears Tower no doubt. It is a classic and the dark lord of skyscrapers. Freedom Tower is a disappointingly boring tower.
Chibcha2k September 8th, 2005, 03:57 AM Sears...i agree with Travis on how disapointing Freedom Tower is...how come USA lost creativity!
Islander September 8th, 2005, 06:13 AM ^You actually think the USA has LOST architectural creativity since the modern era? :hahaha:
Anyway, in terms of design, I'll go with the FT. Nicer color, facade and shape IMO.
Liz L September 8th, 2005, 09:51 PM I voted for Sears...
The latest Freedom Tower is actually an improvement, though; at least the poor thing doesn't seem so twisted that it needs a chiropractor...
Both of them have flat roofs with antennas**SIGH**, so there's no real difference there.
Both have nice, shiny-shiny facades.
BUT... Sears has set backs, so at least it soars better, as I can state from experience, having stood accross the street looking UP and UP and UP...
Jay September 8th, 2005, 10:23 PM Both are nice. But I don't like the way FT tapers, although it is an astonishing improvement over the other designs. So sears it is.
JDRS September 8th, 2005, 10:57 PM I prefer the Sears tower.
andysimo123 September 9th, 2005, 01:01 AM I gotta go with Sears Tower. Freedom Tower is just a joke now, its turned into a mess. How long will this last befour its changed again?
luv2bebrown September 9th, 2005, 01:05 AM i actually think the freedom tower looks kinda good.
but the sears tower for me definitely
beyond 1000 September 9th, 2005, 05:59 AM Both look nice. I voted for FT. I like it slightly more.
Arpels September 9th, 2005, 11:09 AM both, Sears is a classic FT will be a classic too, I hoppe they dont change the planes again, I like thys FT.
PotatoGuy September 10th, 2005, 08:10 AM Freedom, Sears is nice in the skyline, but the building itself is pretty ugly, w/o the rest of the buildings it would be sh..doo doo
Stratosphere 2020 September 14th, 2005, 12:21 PM The spire of the Freedom Tower looks awkward. They could have done a better job with the spire than that.
Azn_chi_boi September 14th, 2005, 12:37 PM Sears Tower... the Freedom Tower's design might changed again... That NYC building doesn't fit into its skyline, IMO. Unlike the Sears Tower with the John Hancock.
TalB September 14th, 2005, 07:55 PM How could this be a contest when the Freedom Tower literally has a smaller height than the Twins, which were just below the Sears Tower?
samsonyuen September 14th, 2005, 11:35 PM Sears Tower by far!
Bronteboy September 15th, 2005, 01:26 AM the awful thing about Freedom Tower here is that it still feels like there is one missing. I don't want to vote.
Jules September 15th, 2005, 10:45 PM Sears, easily.
TalB September 17th, 2005, 05:04 AM The Sears Tower by a longshot.
ChiLooper September 17th, 2005, 06:06 AM Sears
megamegh July 25th, 2006, 03:57 AM Gotta say the sears tower. I love its design and its shape. Freedom tower looks okay but id say sears tower is better
panamaboy9016 July 25th, 2006, 04:01 AM Welcome megamegh to SSC! Umm I would definitely say Sears Tower considering that it is way older than the Freedom Tower but in my opinion Freedom Tower will never surpass the Empire State building and plus, this building hasn't even started constructions so when it's built, lets see a picture and see which one is better. Because you can't look at a render and the actual real building and compare something that is not even 2 feet tall to something that is over 1,300ft.
JAB323 July 25th, 2006, 04:10 AM Freedom looks better. More futuristic. Sears tower frankly is bland.
wickedestcity July 25th, 2006, 06:02 AM not to be annoying but the sears is not 1400 feet! its 1,450 feet, 7 inches (442 m) and 1,729 feet (527 m) to the top of the western antenna
anyways , my vote is for the sears
blackhawk08 July 25th, 2006, 06:32 AM Sears Tower no questions asked, i mean just look at it!
http://205.188.226.153/blp1193/images/sears%20tower.gif
ZZ-II July 26th, 2006, 09:56 PM of course it's the Sears Tower
FLAWDA-FELLA July 27th, 2006, 02:18 PM Like most of the replies here, I have to go with the Sears Tower as well. This building has remained in the top 10 worldwide for over 30 years. That is pretty d**n amaaaazing, to say the least!!! Although the Freedom Tower isn't built yet, I guess we'll just have to wait and see how it turns out once it is completed.
joedellasandro July 27th, 2006, 03:58 PM Sears definately...she's big, she's bad' she's sexy and black......she's iconic and timeless.......
staff July 27th, 2006, 04:05 PM The Freedom Tower, I like the design very much. Sears Tower is way to boxy and boring for me.
blaxxxbla July 28th, 2006, 08:10 PM I think the Freedom tower by far, the Sears tower looks like a bunch of boxes together, without style it's just too tall but nothing else. :)
AndySocks July 28th, 2006, 08:12 PM Sears.
B@dGuYoM July 29th, 2006, 05:31 PM Both because i can judge a tower just under construction
Indyman July 29th, 2006, 05:35 PM Building usually look different than their renders so it is to hard for me to judge right now.
charmedone September 2nd, 2007, 04:55 PM freedom tower is by far alot nicer looking then the sears tower
the sears tower is kida ugly but i dont like hate it i mean there worse bbuilding out there i just have to say when you compair it to the freedom tower its pretty much well ugly
ØlandDK September 2nd, 2007, 05:39 PM The Sears Tower for...just love black towers
Farmer77 September 4th, 2007, 12:17 AM The Sears Towers.
The Freedom Tower is so bland even for something that is suppose to be new and futuristic. Honestly, if the Freedom Tower was built else where without the history behind it, would anyone give a damn?
FM 2258 September 4th, 2007, 06:57 AM Sears, the freedom tower is fucking awful compared to the old WTC. :ohno:
Brendan September 4th, 2007, 07:43 AM Freedom Tower by far!
The Sears Tower has got to be the most overrated building on the planet, seriously. I bet if it were in a city like Paris it would not get the same views as it does now.
-Corey- September 4th, 2007, 07:49 AM Freedom Tower.
SheistbugzzNY September 4th, 2007, 08:25 AM freedom tower, NY
Jakes1 September 4th, 2007, 01:52 PM Freedom Tower is standard, bland and boring. If it was built anywhere else we all would have gone, "oh, nice." Place FT in Dubai and it will dissapear amongst most of those often grotesque creations. The Seers will still stand out.
rootermill September 7th, 2007, 11:10 PM Freedom Tower is a big mistake. A result of poor planning. There could have been something great here.
ZZ-II September 7th, 2007, 11:13 PM freedom tower isn't bad i think, the new GZ will look great.....otherwise the old twins were still the best :)
Carlos123 September 7th, 2007, 11:41 PM :deadthrea
DetKing111 September 8th, 2007, 01:38 AM Sears Tower, way nicer.
Northsider September 8th, 2007, 09:04 AM Sears by far! Sears Tower is Chicago in all of its boxy glory. Freedom doesn't belong in NYC's skyline if you ask me.
TalB September 8th, 2007, 09:54 PM The Sears Tower is at least an original, the FT looks very similar to the SWFC.
MelboyPete September 9th, 2007, 02:09 PM I voted FT only because if it wasn't for Sears impressive height it would be just another tall building IMO.
Northsider September 10th, 2007, 01:37 AM I voted FT only because if it wasn't for Sears impressive height it would be just another tall building IMO.
But you have to think about it back then...that was cutting edge back then with the tube design. Both Sears and WTC used the same technology, thus were both bland boxy buildings, neither in of themselves beautiful.
Rizzato September 10th, 2007, 03:53 AM sears is sinister, dark, tall, classy, an aged veteran in the skyscraper game
1WTC is clean-cut, shiny, tall, and symbolic.
taking into consideration how these scrapers look in the context of their skyline, Ill go with FT for the amazing change it makes in the downtown skyline. its got 3 tall neighbors going up, and the cladding will really make these buildings pop out at you from any angle!
the sears is the humble giant. it doesnt ask to be the world most beautiful tower. all it wants is respect. lol
1WTC ftw
KevD September 10th, 2007, 04:35 AM They both have fantastic designs... Sears is a 70's classic! and the freedom tower is a modern and simple design. I like both equally I think.
Northsider September 10th, 2007, 04:46 AM They both have fantastic designs... Sears is a 70's classic! and the freedom tower is a modern and simple design. I like both equally I think.
Wait a minute...I just realized. Why are comparing a modern, newly designed building with cutting edge technology to a 40 year old skyscraper?
cincobarrio September 10th, 2007, 05:31 AM Wait a minute...I just realized. Why are comparing a modern, newly designed building with cutting edge technology to a 40 year old skyscraper?
because we're crraaaazzyy
i used to hate the sears tower, but it has grown on me a lot since 9/11. I'm not going to be able form an opinion on the freedom tower until it's up and we can see how the cladding turns out first hand, but the plan has definitely been gaining support and acceptance from the general public (and I) since towers 2-4 were unveiled as sleek supertalls. the new trade towers are going to do WONDERS for lower manhattan, but it's hard to compare that to the dark duo of the sears and john h. towers, which ARE chicago... we'll see for ourselves within the next decade, lol.
TMitch September 10th, 2007, 08:22 AM The Freedom Tower is cool, but the glass almost reminds me of a shiny fish. It's darker on one panel because of the lighting. I just wish the glass tone was a bit different.
charmedone September 10th, 2007, 08:40 PM i still think the freedom tower is better then the sears and well to be honiste the sears tower to me is not one of chicagos best buildings
Chitowner245 September 10th, 2007, 09:48 PM When talking about aesthetics, it can go either way for me. I just wish they would stop putting enormous spires on buildings in NYC, and just let ES and Chrysler continue to show the world what a REAL spired roof looks like. I'm biased since I'm a chicagoan, but I have to give sears the edge because of its innovative bundled tube design, its reflection of the city, and its PURPOSE. Aesthetics aren't the meaning of architecture, function is, and no other iconic building in the world symbolizes the purpose of tall buildings better than sears.
TalB September 11th, 2007, 12:36 AM The ESB doesn't have a spire, it has an antenna.
wong21fr September 11th, 2007, 01:38 AM It has both a spire and an antenna.
But only the height of the spire is counted in measurements.
