Any recent news on Jan Fletcher's City One (http://www.leeds-cityscape.co.uk/Sweet_Street.html) 40 Storey including 5* Hotel? I read in Leeds Council Economy Bulletin June 05 (http://www.leeds.gov.uk/files/2005/week28/inter__8B238030578723EB80256E000036F680_df6a6add-e185-47c5-b829-3af99035ebe9.pdf) Leeds Council Economy Bulletin June 05 that planning permission was granted. Not heard much though? Any start dates?

It's still in planning. CABE don't like it. Football pitch-sized open square. 37 storey (not 40). Sky-restaurant potential. £500m.

Frustrating not to have anything concrete (natch) to go on - esp as this is such a huge development. Anyone know Ms Fletcher personally...?

I fear so stiggy, I fear so.

CABE basically said the current proposal was shite. Dunno about that, but if I was spending £500m I'd want something pretty bloody special that was a monument to my ego and vanity. Not something CJ are in the habit of pandering to. Anyway, it's all speculation so let's just wait and see shall we?

Sorry - what's CABE?? Also I was under the impression that the design gained outline planning permission in May/June 05 - has the design changed since then? Get a move on Jan!!

leedslad - appreciate the interest in the development, but please could we minimise the duplication of threads. The City One development thread is already 3 pages long and can be found on the second page of the main Leeds board - or alternatively here
40 Storey Sweet Street (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=240375) . This has a good history of the news released to date re: the Jan Fletcher development.

apologies for being so anal, but we've already got a lot of threads to maintain etc etc.

Passed the site of City One today, and I think new grey hoardings have been erected around the site. I would expect to see advertising banners on these hoardings in the near future, so will keep you up to date with developments when I pass the site which is 2 or 3 times a week

Firstly - don't get excited at seeing this bumped back up... More bad news than anything?
Is this planned for the old MSF car dealership that you pass as you come off the M621 into Leeds, just before Halfords?
If so the car dealership is now advertised as being available to-let...

It is, but I think only short term. Nothing will happen on that site for years anyway.

It has been advertised for over a year, but only short term. This site will be developed big style, its too important as a gateway to the city. Whether Jan Fletcher has the dosh to do it is another matter. Personally, I would like to see the Arena built here. What a landmark location as you arrive in the city, and on the motorway network for the whole of Yorkshire.

Montpellier Estates is a major investment and international development group specialising in regenerating industrial sites to mixed and office use. It currently has more than a dozen sites in various stages of development across the north of England and abroad. Jan Fletcher, one of the UK's top entrepreneurs, is chairman and owner of Montpellier Estates. City One is its most prestigious and largest development to date.

The £500m city centre development in Leeds has been designed in line with Leeds City Council's vision for a spectacular boulevard gateway entrance from the M1 and M62 motorways into the city centre. It will be based around a central plaza, forming a green oasis the size of a football pitch, in the heart of the city. A 36-storey tower will form part of a sharp and iconic skyline across Leeds. The southern entrance to the city will be regenerated into a visionary destination where people can work, rest, eat and play. City One will create up to 10,000 jobs and will form a central part in connecting the regenerated areas of Holbeck Urban Village and beyond, into the city centre through walkways.

One of the big waits on this site has been the decision on the regional casino as I understand. A very large casino is a key part of the scheme.

The first stage is passed - ie. Leeds has secured a regional casino allocation. Now the City Council has to decide to give the license to this site or the other proposals down at Elland Road, or indeed any other contender I don't know off-hand.

I'm sure the Arena decision will also have a bearing: not so much that the Arena will be on this site, but more the relationship between where the Casino eventually ends up in relation to the Arena.
