Can anybody provide information as to which developers/builders use which building guarantee. ie NHBC, Zurich, Architects Cert. for the City Centre areas.

Thanks

Welcome to the boards BTW stig.

Erm, could you explain what a building guarantee is?

its is essentially self explantory. the builder provides a guarantee - often for up to 25 years - that any defects or faults with the building will be repaired free of charge. Essentially the developer/contractor has an obligation to put right any major issues with the abode. Most new houses (certainly big suburban developments by people like Barrett, Taylor Woodrow and George Wimpey) have these, and I'm sure that the majority of the new city centre developments have these as standard.

So there are two Leeds Lads on here now? I think if the other one is a serious poster, it might be an idea that he changes his username.

Why would this be a stupid thread?

I'm just interested in which developments/developers subscribe to which guarantee.
There is a percieved level of 'worth' with these 3; NHBC, then Zurich, then Architects Guarantee.
This is generally related to the cost of supplying these certificates - NHBC being the most expensive.

So nobody has any info?

ps thanks for the welcome

Don't worry STIG - keep contributing. Like every forum we have our quota of stupid and puerile posters.

Welcome to SSC Stig (and hi to the Leeds lads & lasses - this is my first post on your forum) :)

To my knowledge, most residential developers use NHBC as many estate agents and solicitors use them as the industry standard. I am not sure of costs but I am not convinced that they are worth their money - I have seen some places that have been certified by NHBC that are, well, questionable.

Good to get some intelligent questions for a change. Welcome to the thread Stig. Just ignore the plantlife.
