Movenpick launches first Middle East residence project

Movenpick Hotels & Resorts (MH&R) has unveiled plans for its first residential project in the Middle East, situated in Doha and scheduled for a 2007 completion.

The Swiss chain has entered into an agreement with local real estate and construction company the Regency Group to build Movenpick Residence & Suites Doha. “We are very proud to be associated with such a distinguished company,” said Jean Gabriel Pérès, president and CEO of Movenpick Hotels & Resorts.

The 25-storey Movenpick Residence will be situated in the city’s West Bay area, in the heart of the commercial district and 15 minutes from the airport. The majority of the 204 studios and 140 one-bedroom apartments will have kitchenettes, but will also receive 24-hour room service.

The company’s decision to expand into the residential market was based on the current boom in Doha’s hospitality industry, according to Mattmuller. “Movenpick Hotels & Resorts expect economic progress [in the city] to not only continue but accelerate in the long term creating a need for medium term accommodation for middle management and executives on assignment for six months to a year,” he told Hotelier.

“A fully serviced residence, with all the luxuries of a hotel but with the comforts of home, is the perfect solution to satisfy the needs of long-term visitors, as well as bridging the gap in the accommodation options currently available in Doha,” he added.

“The residence market is definitely growing across the Middle East, both in terms of corporate guests and family leisure travellers seeking more space at reasonable rates,” said Mattmuller.

How stupied can these ppl be ?? I understand if im building a tower and wanna cut cost by cutting out the parking since ill be renting the whole place out in a seller's market.. so screw the tenents.. but where the heck are the authorities.. good some ppl are just plain stupied..

MillenniaL,
People who work in the Q-Tel tower don't park at the Sheraton... they park next to the post office! A bus takes people between the tower and their cars - completley stupid! I don't understand why they don't build high-rise parking lots on every street with towers - its the only way to solve this.

Halawala

^^ Bad planning is getting completely out of control and its taking its tool on the people.

Did you know here in Dubai, in Sheik Zayed Road, every plot of land for a high rise tower gets a free plot of land right behind it to be used excusively for a parking lot tower?? That is what I call good planning.

Movenpick to open 25-storey hotel

The 25-storey Movenpick Tower and Suites in the West Bay area, scheduled to open next month
Staff reporter

MOVENPICK Hotels and Resorts (MH&R), which already has a four-star hotel on the Doha Corniche, is gearing up to open a 25-storey branch – Movenpick Tower and Suites Doha – in the posh West Bay area "next month."

The 350-room Movenpick Tower and Suites will be positioned as a five-star property to cater to the top end of the market.

According to the Swiss hotel chain’s website, the "350 modernly designed rooms including 40 suites, furnished with kitchenette and equipped with the latest Internet technology and IP services" aim to target both "short and long term guests".

The hotel will have an "all-day restaurant with a show kitchen, a specialty noodles restaurant, a lobby lounge/cafe in addition to pool-side BBQ, the website says.

A large gymnasium, a children’s games room, health and wellness centre, a swimming pool and four massage rooms, are some of the other facilities that will be available at the new hotel.

There will be a "220sqm multi-purpose function hall" divisible into six meeting rooms, apart from the regular "business centre".

The new hotel’s opening team headed by general manager Cypert Schwartz.

Movenpick Tower set for official opening
Published: Sunday, 14 January, 2007, 11:13 AM Doha Time

The Movenpick Tower and Suites Doha, which will officially open on January 24

Movenpick Hotels and Resorts’ second property in Qatar, the 350-room Movenpick Tower and Suites Doha in the West Bay area, is all set for an official opening on January 24.

The hotel has already had a "soft-opening’’ last month, with its first guest staying at the 26-storey futuristic property during the 15th Asian Games Doha 2006, an official of the hotel told Gulf Times. Movenpick already has a four-star property on the Corniche.

The new hotel’s 350 rooms, which include 40 suites, offer "contemporary design and first class comfort," according to a press release.

"Besides an LCD TV and 24-hour room service, most of the rooms have a fully equipped kitchenette, ideal for long-term stays. All the rooms are linked to an interactive telecommunication system (Internet Protocol network), which allows guests to retrieve information and directly access hotel services", including wake-up calls, concierge service, express check-out and video on demand, the release said.

The conference and banquet facilities at the five-star property include four meeting rooms, equipped with "state-of-the-art audio-visual technology."

The new hotel is home to four themed restaurants.

‘Animato’, the main restaurant, offers international buffets as well as a la carte dishes. ‘Wok mee’, on the ground floor, serves Asian specialities, mainly "creative noodle dishes."

‘Lime cafe’, adjacent to the Tower’s main lobby area, offers refreshing drinks and snacks apart from "trademark Movenpick products."

‘Bay View 26’ on the top floor, with breathtaking views of the city and the waters of the Arabian Gulf, offers Mediterranean and Lebanese specialities from the grill.

An indoor swimming pool, a health and wellness centre, four massage rooms, a beauty salon and a games room for children are some of the other features at the Movenpick Tower and Suites.

"The new tower is a key element of our strategy of growth in the Middle East," said Andreass Mattmuller, the Swiss hotel chain’s senior vice president in the Middle East.

General manager Cypert Schwartz said: "By combining the very latest technology and genuine Swiss hospitality, we are able to offer our customers a unique concept with every conceivable comfort for both short and long-term stays."

My friend and I are gonna stay at the Moevenpick next month. It's damn expensive :ohno:
Even the breakfast is not included in the price, you have to pay 75 QR pr person PR DAY!!! What the hell is that about! We had a much cheaper rate for the Ritz Carlton but there were no room available at the dates we are gonna be in doha... sucks big time!
I REALLY hope it's worth the money! Anyone have stayed there yet?

We tried to call them and asked if they could make a special rate for my friend's company, they told us that it was only possible from the 3rd of March. We are leaving the 6th
But generally the hotels in doha are OVERPRICED and the ppl not very helpful. I swear the ppl we talked to at the Marriott were so damn stupid lol we could get a 10 QR discount, who the hell cares about 10 riyal :bash:
The problem is that some big company reserved ½ of the hotel, and are probably not gonna use ½ of the rooms anyway :ohno: It's always hell to find a good hotel in Doha...
