View Full Version : Fox news finally had to appreciate Canada desiguy8179 September 7th, 2005, 02:25 AM It was heartening to see Fox news reporter questioning FEMA Chief Micheal Brown that Canadian Army reached some parts of New Orleans even before US National Guard.... Mock September 7th, 2005, 02:36 AM Ouch, Michael Brown continues his downward spiral. oceanmdx September 7th, 2005, 02:56 AM I guess Fox News has now joined the "blame America first" crowd. ;) mr.x September 7th, 2005, 03:38 AM ^ the other day, not sure what her name was, but the anchor said "How are you reacting to all this criticism towards the federal government and FEMA, not that I agree with any of it?" KGB September 7th, 2005, 06:14 AM Well, that's because FOX must believe biased news anchors are an important element of that "fair and balanced" policy. he he KGB oceanmdx September 7th, 2005, 06:51 AM ^ Yes indeed, Fox figures that in order to ensure that the public receives "fair and balanced" news, it must tote the neo-conservative Government line in order to compensate for what they see as a general media liberal bias. In other words - as Bill O'Reilly would say - they are lying and they know it. :) KGB September 7th, 2005, 07:16 AM Knowing it would be a source of amusement, i have tuned into FOX periodically over the last few days...and they have not disappointed...their non-stop 24hr entertainment show masked as "news" coverage of the flood ranks with watching old shows of Jim and Tammy Fay. Listening to Bill and Geraldo cover this as a tag-team was just monumental in terms of what i like to call...."The Cringe Factor". KGB Oaronuviss September 7th, 2005, 07:37 AM LOL that's awesome! vid September 7th, 2005, 04:30 PM It was heartening to see Fox news reporter questioning FEMA Chief Micheal Brown that Canadian Army reached some parts of New Orleans even before US National Guard.... Actually, it was a search and rescue team, from Vancouver, about 2500miles away. It's good to be recognized, though, and to be put in thwe good light by Fox news (which isn't really "good", but it's better than their bad light... evil things lurk there.. and liberals.) As for watching Fox news for entertainement value, every time I got to a house with digital cable or satellite, I can't turn away! It's just so absurd. One of those "so stupid it works" kinda things, eh? .../gibbering crazyjoeda September 7th, 2005, 10:42 PM Yea, the Vancouver Urban Rescue team was the first rescue team on the scene in New Orleans. Pretty embarrassing, New Orleans just started getting adequate Aid from the USA goverment when our Urban Rescue team left. samsonyuen September 8th, 2005, 01:05 AM Surprised they didn't accuse the Canadians of looting! JARdan September 8th, 2005, 03:24 AM Has anyone noticed the anti-Bush-like nature of CNN lately? They seem to be really giving the gears to the Republicans. That stupid bitch governor of whatever state that did the live conference in Baton Rouge was a bitch! Anderson Cooper's 360 on September 1st was moving. Anyway, has anyone noticed this? I even noticed that when that national Black organization did their live conferences, FOX didn't even air it! Surprisingly, CNN wasn't so quick to defend Bush and had aired several conferences held by Black representatives who were speaking out against the poor response. thryve September 8th, 2005, 03:45 AM Then there's CNN the other day: "The only thing harder for an American soldier to see... fallen Americans." Ugh I almost threw up in unison with that line. Honestly... just think about what the response is to the first part of that line... jer4893 September 8th, 2005, 04:05 AM I heard that when the Vancouver urban search and rescue team arrived, the NO fire department and the people of NO lowerd the American flag and raised the Canadian flag. ROCguy September 8th, 2005, 04:13 AM lol, Faux news. I watch it for laugs too. Especially the O'reilly factor. The "No Spin Zone" that spins the whole time! But, I would have to say that Fox News IS fair and balanced. They spend exactly half of their time blaiming anything and everything wrong in America on " the liberals" (eventhough conservatives hold the majority completely now), and the other half of their time kissing Bush's ass. It's completely balanced. oceanmdx September 8th, 2005, 04:21 AM ^ Ha, ha - good one. oceanmdx September 8th, 2005, 04:24 AM I heard that when the Vancouver urban search and rescue team arrived, the NO fire department and the people of NO lowerd the American flag and raised the Canadian flag. That's why Bush didn't send aid in time, the Canadian flag made him think that NO was part of Canada. jer4893 September 8th, 2005, 08:09 AM ^Lol. Yeah we have to go easy on Bush. He gets confused very, very easily. Oaronuviss September 8th, 2005, 09:21 AM LOLOLOL! We'll get France to re-claim Louisiana, which will then be ceeded to Quebec considering it is a French area of North America, which will then pass it to Canada considering Quebec isnt it's own country yet. And never will be for that matter. oceanmdx September 8th, 2005, 09:36 AM ^Lol. Yeah we have to go easy on Bush. He gets confused very, very easily. Yes, that Canadian flag really confused G.W. After all, the reason Bush went to NO a few days ago was to sell them on missile defense. Cheney had to tell him that NO already was part of the deal. Bush then told Cheney that he was pleased that these "Canajuns" had changed their minds on missile defense and told him to let Prime Minister Katrina know that 'merica now considers her country to be its best ally! Bush:bash: Cheney :eek2: oceanmdx September 8th, 2005, 05:22 PM lol, Faux news. Not faux news. Read this: "Louisiana senator: Thank you Canada Last Updated Thu, 08 Sep 2005 07:12:44 EDT CBC News A Louisiana state senator has praised a Canadian search and rescue team. Senator Walter Boasso said a Vancouver-based team reached St. Bernard parish five days before the U.S. army got there. "Fabulous, fabulous guys," Boasso said. "They started rolling with us and got in boats to save people ... We've got Canadian flags flying everywhere." RELATED STORY: 20,000 Canadian cots sent for hurricane relief The suburb of 68,000 people was initially ignored by U.S. authorities who were scrambling to get aid to New Orleans. Boasso said floodwater in his parish is still 2.4 metres deep in some places. He said residents of the outlying parishes had to mount their own rescue and relief efforts when Hurricane Katrina struck last week. The U.S. government response to the disaster has been widely criticized. Some politicians and editorial writers have called for the resignation of top Bush administration officials. Boasso saved his praise for the Canadians and their quick work. "They were so glad to be here," he said. "They're still here. They are actually going door-to-door looking in the attics" for people to rescue." http://www.cbc.ca/story/world/national/2005/09/08/louisiana_canada_thanks_20050909.html Nouvellecosse September 8th, 2005, 07:38 PM ^That seems a bit odd to me. Where did they get all of those Canadian flags? I doubt people in the NO suburb had a reserve of Can flags just in case they were ever rescued by Canadians. And why would the relief team bring flags with them to a disaster area to rescue people? What possible benefit could they be to the relief efforts? :weird: Hmmm. elliot September 9th, 2005, 12:18 AM God we are a great nation. I even like Vancouver today... but I'll get over it. REASON #1 Canajuns made it there first: NO AGENDA EXCEPT HELPIN'. Homer J. Simpson September 9th, 2005, 01:29 AM ^ :hilarious: LOL, I think hell just froze over. valantino September 9th, 2005, 01:40 AM "That seems a bit odd to me. Where did they get all of those Canadian flags?" What? Can't draw? ;) (not suggesting it is true or not) addisonwesley September 9th, 2005, 03:53 AM I see no flags... jer4893 September 9th, 2005, 06:18 AM Lol, even though it was on CTV from people who were actually there? But i guess you people in Toronto and such know more than them. What was CTV thinking? oceanmdx September 10th, 2005, 03:01 AM Praise Canada: Bush joins other Americans in thanking Canada for Katrina help 07:39 PM EDT Sep 09 BETH GORHAM WASHINGTON (CP) - President George W. Bush thanked Canada on Friday for helping the countless U.S. victims of hurricane Katrina, an expression of gratitude that stood in contrast to his failure to acknowledge Canadian assistance in the days after Sept. 11. "Canada has sent ships with disaster supplies," the president said in televised comments during the swearing-in for Karen Hughes, the State Department's new undersecretary for public diplomacy. "Air Canada's planes assisted in the evacuation." "To every nation and every province and every local community across the globe that is standing with the American people and with those who hurt on the Gulf Coast, our entire nation thanks you for your support." Four years ago, Bush failed to name Canada when he first thanked countries that offered help after the Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington. This time, he specifically mentioned Canada along with several other countries. Other Americans, too, have praised Canada in the wake of Katrina - praise that comes despite years of trade tensions between Canada and the United States over softwood lumber, cattle and other irritants. Louisiana state Senator Walter Boasso says there are Canadian flags "flying everywhere" in St. Bernard Parish, near New Orleans, after a Vancouver search-rescue team rescued 119 people last week before the U.S. military showed up. The community's fire chief also heaped praise on the squad. In Los Angeles, TV news anchor Hal Fishman of KTLA Channel 5 lauded Canada's assistance on Thursday night, saying "the country has embraced us and offered support on myriad levels." He added Canada stood above other countries in terms of the types of support and the different sectors that have offered help. Three Canadian warships - the destroyer HMCS Athabaskan, frigates HMCS Ville de Quebec and HMCS Toronto - and the Coast Guard ship Sir William Alexander left Halifax on Tuesday packed with relief supplies, helicopters to deliver them, and about 1,000 Canadian Forces personnel ready for a variety of chores. They are expected to arrive off the U.S. Gulf Coast sometime over the weekend. Air Canada provided shuttle flights to help in the evacuation of about 25,000 people from New Orleans to San Antonio, Texas. The airline also used an Airbus passenger jet to fly a cargo of bottled water and relief supplies to New Orleans. Canadian military planes have transported Canadian Red Cross and government officials to work in the disaster areas. Some 35 Canadian military divers are helping with inspecting dikes and clearing waterways. A shipment of supplies requested by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has arrived in Atlanta from Canada. Donations are pouring in across the country, with a total of $6.9 million raised for the relief effort. Bernard Etzinger, spokesman for the Canadian Embassy in Washington, said messages of thanks have been arriving via e-mail, letters and telephone at consulates across the country. One e-mail sent to Canadian Ambassador Frank McKenna from Caroline W. of Tennessee said: "Your country is very close to my heart now. I, for one, will never forget the compassion expressed by Canadians in so many different ways." Another e-mail, from a member of the National Guard of Virginia, said "I think you should hear a Thanks, and a Hoo-ah!!, from the rest of us. I have friends from Louisiana, and your guys are really coming through for them." Earlier this week, U.S. Ambassador David Wilkins effusively thanked Canada as well. "The aid pouring from all across Canada has been truly overwhelming," Wilkins said in Vancouver. "Many countries are offering help, nobody more so than Canada ... You're at the top of the list and for that we will always be very grateful." Those sentiments are a far cry from Wilkins's tough talk just last month, when he said Canada should stop its "emotional tirades" and get back to the bargaining table on the softwood lumber dispute. But for all the kind words and feel-good sentimentality directed Canada's way this week from south of the border, at least one Canada-U.S. observer doesn't know whether trade tensions will now ease as a result. "This is not going to solve softwood or anything else," David Biette, the director of the Canadian Institute of the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, said Friday. "But Canada is definitely more in people's minds now. The embassy has done a great job letting the American people know how much Canada has done to help the Katrina victims. It's not going to be a sea change, but Canada's profile has certainly been raised." http://www.cbc.ca/cp/world/050909/w090978.html Oaronuviss September 10th, 2005, 10:31 AM /\ Very touching. But I couldn't resist: HOW MANY PEOPLE DOWN THERE ARE ASKING, "WHAT'S CANADA?" BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! I'm sorry. |
