7/10

Blunther February 19th, 2003, 05:46 PM Does anyone know how tall Tampa's tallest are?
It's the only American city I've been to, and was just wondering if they're any bigger than we get around these parts.
Cheers:)
nostyle February 21st, 2003, 05:37 AM very nice skyline, but it's a bit small and lacks density. Overall it's a top-20 american skyline, but I gave it a 7.
Blunther, Tampa's 3 tallest are 176m (579 ft), 176m (577 ft), and 164 m (537 ft) tall. Tampa also has two proposed in a similar height range. It has a total of 4 500+ foot buildings.
giallo February 21st, 2003, 08:58 AM A nice looking skyline. There isn't too much to look at but it's nice none the less. I don't like the tallest building though. It looks horrible. 7.0
DrumCorpsAlum February 22nd, 2003, 09:40 PM I dig that triangle effect. There is a definate focal point with the shorter buildings on the edges drawing your eyes inward. I give it a solid 8.5/10. Nice variety of styles as well, and the water would enhance any skyline.
Pilot66 February 22nd, 2003, 09:57 PM An 8. Impressive height in a city of just over 300k, and a small CBD area.
BGT April 14th, 2003, 11:51 PM 8/10

Very small skyline and low-density... no good old stuff either... but there is some height and a couple nice buildings
Fabio August 19th, 2003, 05:16 AM 8/10
nice towers but it lacks of density.
Big! October 7th, 2003, 01:03 AM 7.5/10

jtown, man December 27th, 2003, 05:33 AM 4 buildings over 500 ft ...awesome! Problem is(to me anyways) is that you dont have a bunch of buildings 180-499ft. Needs more density 7/10
SeeMacau December 27th, 2003, 05:35 PM The skyline is small, but those buildings are very tall and nice design !! 8/10
Jasonhouse January 6th, 2004, 01:39 AM A couple other pics showing that there is "some" density around the DT skyscrapers.

One thing to note is that Tampa's skyline is growing significantly, with something like '12' 20+ story buildings u/c or proposed in the city alone.

skyperu34 January 11th, 2004, 04:00 AM Tampa is my favorite city in the Floida State.........excellent pics, nice shots!!!!!!!!! A QUESTION: does anybody know about Hillsborough riverside tower? Is it being built? or still a proposal?
Orionis9 January 16th, 2004, 02:25 AM I grew up in Tampa and although I love it's scrapers, I still feel there aren't enough. Quite honestly, when comparing the city's size and the overall size and density of it's downtown, the relationship is not traditional in the sense of most modern American cities. The most likely reason for this is due to the relative newness of southern American cities and the lack of densification. Cities in the south typically grew outward, b/c of the myriad land prospects. Even Miami and Atlanta have relatively paucity of downtown scrapers. For it's relative size, population, and regional importance, Tampa should have a downtown size on par with a Pittsburgh or even Seattle.
Jasonhouse January 21st, 2004, 04:47 AM There is significant growth ocurring downtown though, with 9 buildings of 20 stories or more approved or u/c. There several more midrises coming up too.

axerod December 2nd, 2004, 10:08 AM The skyline IS changing plenty of mix-use highrises going up including a space needle inspired tower (Pinnacle) building density will come with those residential/ mix-use projects going up!
10/10
Icnignot December 3rd, 2004, 04:25 AM I saw the Tampa skyline myself The structures were very nice but there was hardly any density that killed it for me.
dreams_rowdy December 15th, 2004, 08:19 AM Like Jasonhouse pointed out, there are a lot of residential projects about to go up downtown. Since the CBD is delimited by three seperate channels of water, the density will improve greatly within the next two years. It's just sad that we don't have more commercial towers down there--we have nearly twice as much (11 million sq. ft. compared to 6 million sq. ft.) Class A office space in our Westshore district (near the airport) than we do downtown. Overall, we have the largest office market in the Southeast, behind Atlanta, but it has been spread out and cut short due to the spatial configurations of our metro.
Clashman December 16th, 2004, 09:54 AM Does St. Petersburg on the other side of the bay have a skyline? How does it compare? I couldn't find skyline photos doing a cursory search, and so thought maybe someone here might have an idea.
Renkinjutsushi December 16th, 2004, 07:11 PM Yay!! Tampa represent!!! lol I gave it an 8.5 since I live near there but not much in the way of density.
BuffSam December 17th, 2004, 12:12 PM Best skyline in Florida other than Miami

I-275westcoastfl May 28th, 2005, 03:13 AM I lived in St.Petersburg which is next to Tampa all my life except summer 2004 through now and when my house is sold am moving back the skyline is nice and 2nd best in florida and after all the proposed projects are built itll look better. Im gonna have to give it a 9
here is a recent pic

Nouvellecosse June 16th, 2005, 01:17 PM It's okay, but it's nothing to write home about (especially for a metro in the 2.5 mil region). Looks like a met. of 800k-1 mil. 6.5/10
FloridaFuture July 1st, 2005, 08:58 PM Hi this is my hometown..... Tampa has a very organized skyline.
if you want density and/or old stuff you need a north view. 9/10
moxwax July 25th, 2005, 03:34 AM I'm from Tampa, and I'd just like to say for everyone to visit the Florida forum here on Skyscrapercity. There you'll see how much Tampa is growing with a bunch of new scrapers going up, including the new Trump Tower Tampa (going to be Tampa's tallest), the 35 story Skypointe which is stunning, and countless other projects going up in our Channelside district (a growing portion of our downtown - used to be ugly and industrial, now changing into a chic residential and entertainment district.)

tampamobster21 May 10th, 2006, 12:12 PM You know Tampa's skyline for an actual (within Tampa's city limits) population under 400k. If you look at other American cities with 400k populations, one thing that you have to say is damn Tampa's skyline is really really impressive.

I agree with that, for a city of its size Tampa has a very impressive skyline. 8/10
LMCA1990 May 11th, 2006, 10:21 PM 8/10- nice skyline, but it can use a few more talls and it's density is bad.

SayHelloToMyLilFrein July 1st, 2006, 09:01 PM Tampa has a fairly good skyline.yes it is a little small for tampa,s size tampa is a pretty big city with 2.6 million in the metro area. but its not really floridas big city. Its nothing compared to Miami. Miami wow !!!! the Miami metro area has the biggest building boom in the world right now and the number of high rises in the Miami metro area is third only to new york and chicago.................................................. Wow anyone know this 1,600 high rises in the Miami metro area and counting. Its going to double in 2 years triple in three years and quadrupal in 7 years. The two tallest buildings in Miami in the planning are 1,400 feet twin towers 120 stories high followed buy another that is 900 ft and another is under construction that is going to be 866 ft 74 stories high. The tallest completed right now is 70 stories in Miami....................................................... there is 65 high rises under contruction and another 79 that are aprooved and another 47 proposed thats a wopping 192 building going up just in downtown in the next four years and there will be more.................................................................................................. 68 out of the 192 buildings are going to be over 500 ft. talls. those numbers are not even including all the other areas in Miami that are experiencing this boom as well such as kendall sunny isles and so on. so many its really hard to count. The latest population numbers in the state of florida is 18 million <thats not including the high percentage of illeagals. Lolo so in no way is tampa floridas biggie .Tampa is no small city though 2.6 million in the metro area and dont forget floridas other two major cities orlando and jacksonville. Anyways i give tampa a 10 beacause its a fast growing city and because its not floridas king its somtimes under estimated.
SayHelloToMyLilFrein July 1st, 2006, 09:23 PM Thought id update you on the populations of florida and its 4 major cities. Florida has an estimated 18 million people to date.tampa has 2.6 million people orlando has 2 million people, jacksonville has 1.4 million to date Miami is just over 6 million people. Some people get fooled by the numbers of imaginary city boundaries. The real population is the full metro area. :bash:
Æsahættr July 2nd, 2006, 06:59 AM It could do better for it's size...

Just outside of that shot, on the left, a 35 storey glass tower, part of a three-tower cluster in the works, is making a dent in the skyline as it makes its way up... all in a city with a population under 350,000...
daduat July 19th, 2006, 01:10 AM ...
I-275westcoastfl July 20th, 2006, 12:57 AM The real population is the full metro area. :bash:
Not really i mean Tampa Bay Metro has 3 main cities St.Petersburg, Tampa, and Clearwater and they all have their own skylines but are so close together they are considered a metro thats why tampas skyline is small for 2.6 million.

There several the above link showing the "old" skyline where the best density is. These shots are of the very new CBD - often the most published. The rest of the skyline, although older, has quite a few gems. I suggest taking a peek!

This is from Ybor City, to the Northeast... The expressway you see starting at the right is the second level of the Crosstown Expressway, which connects I-75 to the southern peninsula, MacDill AFB (US Central Command), and one of the bay bridges. The bottom level is barely visible.
