Forgive my ignorant question, but was Toyota named after the city where it is located or the other way around?

Thanks for sharing the pics.

The city name was changed to Toyota (originally it was Koromo City) in 1959- there was apparently some resistance to the name change, as the Kuromo name had strong historical ties, but the power of Toyota, as well as the hard to read kanji for Koromo, as well as confusion with the Nagano town of Komoro, won over.

There is a possibility that this city becomes the next "Detroit" in terms of rise and fall of liveliness as a city if Toyota keeps on dependent on a single industry.
