Gareth September 10th, 2005, 10:01 PM Could we do with this stickified? What does averyone think? :?
woody September 10th, 2005, 10:15 PM Good idea Gareth, lets get it sticky
Martin S September 11th, 2005, 01:12 PM Definitely a crane installed at the Malmaison site and one on the Hatton Garden development.
Doug Roberts September 11th, 2005, 03:04 PM Gareth thanks for bringing this thread to life again.
Malmaison, picture I posted previously on the Princes Dock thread, I will get a Hatton Garden pic later this week.

Gareth September 11th, 2005, 06:21 PM Thanks for the photo, Doug.
westisbest September 11th, 2005, 07:57 PM I don't like the way Unity doesn't have any Mersey view windows on the lower to mid floors, only once the set back starts and the penthouses start do you get a sea view!
LABlue September 11th, 2005, 08:12 PM Then dont' t buy one and fork out for a penthouse you cheapskate ! ;)
You do make a good point though - its seems strange that the end of the residential block has a blank wall rather than direct views of the river. That said, when I visited the show flat it seemed that the apartments go right through the buildling (probably why its so thin ) and that you have views to north and south.
Any direct views will be blocked by the cruise liner tower anyway and w'ell have the same moaners as at Beetham who think they have devine right to an unrestricted river view forever.
Probably should get back on thread.
Cranes - hate em - they keep nicking my fish.
Martin S September 12th, 2005, 09:52 PM Then dont' t buy one and fork out for a penthouse you cheapskate ! ;)

CABE pointed out that odd feature of the Unity tower. I think they have done it that way for structural reasons as the heavy concrete cross-walls give the building lateral stability. I hope they put some decent cladding on that blank wall.
Didn't realise Unity had a show flat in Los Angeles.
scouserdave September 13th, 2005, 02:21 PM Been trying to post these for the past couple of days. The site has been so fucking slow recently :bash:

Doug Roberts September 13th, 2005, 08:25 PM I thought I was the only one who thought the site was slow!! I wonder if it's been under attack again??

Martin S September 18th, 2005, 09:14 PM Noticed a crane base gone in on the Debenhams site in Lord Street.
Doug Roberts September 18th, 2005, 09:52 PM Here it is.
http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/2479/s56yl.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Update, 7th crane on PSDA, John Lewis site, and crane removed from the Argyle St development.
Martin S September 18th, 2005, 10:36 PM Doug,
Great photo. You must have been on the roof of the Paradise Street car park around the same time I was.
I got it wrong, that crane base is on the Argos site, Debenhams is on the left hand site, where Chavasse Court used to be.
Amazing how impressive Cavern Walks looks from there.
westisbest September 19th, 2005, 08:12 AM The pilers must be coming to the end of their shifts then if the tower crane is going to be moving in on site, though i hope the site comes further back than we can see other wise it won't be a very big dpt store
Doug Roberts September 19th, 2005, 11:39 AM Thanks Martin, I was on the top floor of MSCP about 11:30am no-one up there but me. Cavern Walks is often overlooked quite a number of people work in there.
Difficult to say how big this site (Argos) will be with the service road at the rear.
Ste September 21st, 2005, 01:06 PM Theres a portable crane thingy behind the Greens gym on the way to Otterspool. I think its a David Mclean phase 2 development. Anyone know how tall this is going to be as i'm sure its on the site of the Herculaneum Tower site. A while ago when the tower was rejected i heard the new development would be 10 stories. Any ideas?
Chris B October 10th, 2005, 02:35 PM So it's been a while since someone updated the count, how are we looking?
PSDA - 8
Hanover Street - 2
Unity - 3
Malmaison - 1
Circle 101 - 1
Hatton Garden - 1
I make that 16.
Plus as mentioned by Ste a portable crane at Herculaneum Tower.
Quick question, as I'm still relatively new to this - do cranes outside the city centre count? As a semi-permanent, non-tower crane has been up on the site of Rathbone Hospital off Edge Lane for several weeks now. If we count the above two, that's a total of 18.
Feel free to correct, I've probably got a few wrong.
Gareth October 10th, 2005, 02:39 PM ^^ Are you sure about there being 8 cranes on PDSA? There were 7 last time I checked, though there were only 6 the time before that.
The Cirlce 109 Crane has now gone folks, may it rest in peace.
Chris B October 10th, 2005, 02:45 PM TBH, I'm not certain at there being 8. I can see 7 for definate on the webcam, but I'm having trouble deciding whether there is another. The green ones, are definate, the red one I'm really not sure about.
http://www.ukmovies.myby.co.uk/PSDA Cranes.jpg
Gareth October 10th, 2005, 02:51 PM I suspect you're including the two on paradise street. In that case, there should be 9.
Chris B October 10th, 2005, 02:56 PM Yeah, including Hanover Street (that was a test right :wink2: ), 9 sounds right.
Gareth October 10th, 2005, 03:05 PM Indeed. Last time I checked, there was one more crane on PDSA but the on at Circle 109 has now gone. So we should have the same number.
Blabbernsmoke October 10th, 2005, 03:33 PM It will be good to see that horrible car park and bus station gone. That will really change the way the place looks.
Although it will be a shame to lose the views from the carpark once it is demolished.
Chris B October 13th, 2005, 06:40 PM Looking at the webcam now, it's clear there are 8 tower cranes up on the Chevasse Park part of the PSDA. With a further two on Hanover Street.
http://www.ukmovies.myby.co.uk/PSDA Cranes 2.jpg
So we have -
PSDA - 8
Hanover Street - 2
Unity - 3
Malmaison - 1
Hatton Garden - 1
=15
Doug Roberts October 21st, 2005, 08:09 PM There are now 2 cranes on the John Lewis site, I make that nine in total on the Paradise St site.
Doug Roberts October 24th, 2005, 11:25 AM Spotted this morning a new crane (blue) erected on the site of the corner of Upper Newington and Mount Pleasant, doe anyone have any info on this job??
Scarecrow October 24th, 2005, 11:29 AM Would that be the new JMU arts centre? :?
Doug Roberts October 24th, 2005, 11:33 AM Thanks Bunny, the site seems fairly small, it'll be a tight fit.
westisbest November 13th, 2005, 02:47 PM Theirs are bigger than ours:'(

westisbest November 14th, 2005, 11:14 PM :( Manc has 63 cranes up now, :) but its quality not quantity
scouserdave November 15th, 2005, 12:20 AM Theirs are bigger than ours:'(

Thanks Westie. Love the duck pond :)
westisbest November 15th, 2005, 10:07 AM I reckon we will get about 5 on the kings dock and 4 ont St Pauls sq
Ste November 29th, 2005, 12:24 PM Westi said on the liverpool thread that theres a crane on the maritime site on the strand? Is this true?? I'm looking forward to seeing this development go up!
Gareth November 29th, 2005, 02:57 PM Not sure. May try and have a look today, Ste.
Martin S January 3rd, 2006, 08:40 PM Ages since we last played this game. Need to verify this but I think the present totals are as follows:
PSDA (Liverpool One) - 10
Malmaison -1
Unity - 2
Garden Quarter - 1
Mount Pleasant - 1
Which makes 15. However, walking round the city yesterday, I noticed four crane bases in position:
Kings Waterfront - 2
St Pauls Square - 1
West Tower - 1
So, in a week or two we should have 19 cranes and this figure is set to increase through the summer with almost certainly more on Kings Waterfront, probably two on Alexandra Tower, more on Paradise Street and St Pauls Square etc. etc.
Wouldn't be surprised if we hit 30 this year.
Doug Roberts January 5th, 2006, 11:09 AM A vertical tower (red) has been erected for 1 of the St. Pauls cranes.
Gareth January 5th, 2006, 12:02 PM FAb. I'll try and get some photos on Saturday, before the meet up.
Ste February 1st, 2006, 04:34 PM Yeh two have gone up on the Kings Dock and Beetham West's crane has gone up to. Does that take the total up to 19? I think thats the most we've had!!
Where are the next cranes going to be? St Paul's should have another one surely......any ideas?
Gareth February 1st, 2006, 04:45 PM Liverpool 1 = 10
West Tower = 1
St Pauls = 1
Kings Dock = 2
Unity = 2
Malmasion = 1
Mount Pleasant = 1
Garden Quarter = 1
So 19 it is. I think we may have had 19 at one point previously, but I don't think we've ever surpassed it.
maggie February 1st, 2006, 04:48 PM well if alexandra tower ever gets off the ground itl be 20
westisbest February 1st, 2006, 06:44 PM thats a point, i wish a construction company would just get this by the scruff of the kneck, its such a lovely building
bustcapl February 21st, 2006, 02:53 PM where are we up to these days must be nearly 20 now?
Martin S February 21st, 2006, 10:14 PM Don't have to wait for Alex. Crane No. 20 looks set to appear on the L1 site in the Baltic Triangle. Picture taken this Saturday.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v421/Martin_S/Baltic%20Triangle/1802064.jpg
bustcapl February 23rd, 2006, 02:18 PM great shot that martin... i now realise why this has been taking so long ... some serious excavation gone on here!
Delboy February 23rd, 2006, 02:24 PM Isn't that for the underground car park?
westisbest February 23rd, 2006, 04:42 PM theres a mobile crane hovering over the crane base today, should be up over the weekend
bustcapl February 23rd, 2006, 05:13 PM must be for a carpark i think
Martin S February 25th, 2006, 08:40 PM Same scene a week later with two bases installed and what looks like another ready to go in (although it may just be a mast section). This is one huge development. The excavation, that will go as far as the converted warehouses to the right, is massive and, will provide a large amount of car parking space so Lady D should be pleased.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v421/Martin_S/Baltic%20Triangle/060225.jpg
Also noticed this one going up today by the new John Lewis store. That makes 11 on PSDA and with the two / three on the L1 site, there should soon be 22/23 cranes on the skyline.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v421/Martin_S/PSDA/060225.jpg
westisbest February 25th, 2006, 09:13 PM If it is 2 be 3 on Maritime they should range from about 30-70m tall
woody February 26th, 2006, 02:12 AM Also noticed this one going up today by the new John Lewis store. That makes 11 on PSDA and with the two / three on the L1 site, there should soon be 22/23 cranes on the skyline.

Close call Martin, but Liverpool 1(Grosvenor) should beat L1, Doug and I passed by Paradise St this evening and its at full height just waiting for its jib.
This is an amazing site now with 11 cranes almost touching each other.
Gareth February 26th, 2006, 02:14 AM I've got photos of these on my camera. Now all I need to do is find the bleedin' cable!
JCM February 26th, 2006, 03:36 PM I have heard that there are to be four cranes on the L1 site (Baltic)
Paul D March 3rd, 2006, 06:50 PM Liverpool 1 = 11
West Tower = 1
St Pauls = 1
Kings Dock = 2
Unity = 2
Malmasion = 1
Mount Pleasant = 1
Garden Quarter = 1
L1 Baltic Triangle = 2
22 I think it is now have any more been added or taken down?
westisbest March 3rd, 2006, 07:46 PM L1 has another crane base in position with one laying on the ground like
Doug Roberts March 3rd, 2006, 09:46 PM Paul I think you've missed one, Cornhill (Chandlers Wharf phase 2 I think it's called)
Paul D March 3rd, 2006, 10:01 PM Liverpool 1 = 11
West Tower = 1
St Pauls = 1
Kings Dock = 2

Why cranes look good in the city Mar 3 2006
By Jane Woodhead, Liverpool Echo
THE two men who spearheaded Liverpool's bid to win Capital of Culture today said: "We hope the city is still being rebuilt in 2008".
Council chief executive Sir David Henshaw, and former council leader Mike Storey - who now has the portfolio for special projects including culture - claimed a crane-filled skyline was good news for the city.
Speaking today in response to criticism that many parts of the city will still resemble a building site in Capital of Culture year in 2008, Sir David said: "You cannot stop a growing and developing city."
etc .....

woody March 6th, 2006, 11:22 PM Cheers Longy for great shot, fantastic just looking at 12 cranes all fighting for a bit of the sky.
Ste March 23rd, 2006, 09:54 PM I saw another crane going up at the Maritime Building site today. Taking that developments total up to three. JCM predicted four cranes here so maybe another one on the way. Thats taking the total up to 24. There's a RUMOUR on the alex thread that there could be a crane going up in around three weeks there. They're springing up everywhere!
So its 24 at the mo!
Paul D March 23rd, 2006, 11:36 PM Liverpool 1 = 11
West Tower = 1
St Pauls = 1
Kings Dock = 2
Unity = 2
Malmasion = 1
Mount Pleasant = 1
Garden Quarter = 1
L1 Baltic Triangle = 3
Chandlers Wharf = 1
Nice one Ste so 24 it is then. :)
Paul D April 20th, 2006, 04:59 PM The new crane down by the Strand, I think that makes 12 for PSDA.
If we haven't lost any recently that makes 25.
bustcapl April 21st, 2006, 01:21 PM think the mout pleasant one has gone!
westisbest April 21st, 2006, 02:23 PM 24 then but not for long, Alex tower is expecting one in may
Gareth April 21st, 2006, 04:24 PM Liverpool 1 = 12
West Tower = 1
St Pauls = 1
Kings Dock = 2
Unity = 1
Malmasion = 1
Mount Pleasant = 1
Garden Quarter = 1
L1 Baltic Triangle = 3
Chandlers Wharf = 1
It's 24. Note that there's only one on unity and now 12 on Liverpool 1.
JUXTAPOL April 21st, 2006, 09:35 PM From issue 10 of "Residential Review"
A further 22
tower cranes are
set to join the 20
currently
punctuating the
Liverpool skyline,
with only London and Dublin
beating the count.

westisbest April 21st, 2006, 10:57 PM 22, where is that coming from, i can't see because Acrabat readed messes my comp up
Martin S April 22nd, 2006, 10:24 PM The fourth crane has now been erected on the L1 site so we are up to 25.
Gareth April 22nd, 2006, 10:26 PM A record!
westisbest April 23rd, 2006, 10:04 AM i dunno if it means anthing but i seen a white crane base yesterday going along allerton road towards the centre
Doug Roberts April 27th, 2006, 08:09 PM Saw another crane going up on the PSDA today behind the Grosvenor exhibition centre, I think that makes it 13!!
buggedboy April 27th, 2006, 08:20 PM Saw the bugger swingin into place myself. looked pretty hefty too. wouldnt want one of em droppin near me.
the more the merrier..
Paul D April 28th, 2006, 12:57 PM Liverpool 1 = 13

St Pauls = 1
Kings Dock = 2
Unity = 1
Malmasion = 1
School of Tropical Medicine = 1
Garden Quarter = 1
L1 Baltic Triangle = 4
Chandlers Wharf = 1
Bustcapl mentioned that the Mount Pleasant crane had gone but Doug showed us that the school of tropical medicine had a crane base in place so if that's all accurate we now have 26 cranes in town, correct me if I'm wrong. :)
Bachy Soletanche April 28th, 2006, 01:06 PM There's also one on London Road, just up the Pedstrinised bit of London Road.
You can just about see it on this picture

Thanks Ste 27 is that really right.
Bachy Soletanche April 28th, 2006, 02:03 PM Dunno what they're building on London road, but I did notice a load of red Bricks at the site, so I'm guessing Identict Student Housing. Red brick at the bottom silver plates at the top.
Gareth May 5th, 2006, 03:47 PM That London Road crane is not a proper tower crane, so it doesn't qualify. The red one by the School of Tropical Medicine is though.
Gareth May 5th, 2006, 03:49 PM Also there are only 12 cranes on Liverpool one, meaning either a miscount or one's been taken down. Or even, I miscounted them, but I did several recounts and got 12 every time.
Doug Roberts May 5th, 2006, 03:54 PM I passed there last night and counted only 12, I think one has been taken down.
Gareth May 5th, 2006, 03:55 PM I'll try and put up some pics shortly.
Gareth May 5th, 2006, 05:17 PM Updated this thread.

Some bird in the bar is playing the theme from Rhoda on a piano. Class like that needs to be paid for.
Scarecrow May 16th, 2006, 10:21 AM Bit of a step up from the YMCA isn't it? Have you paid one of the other residents with Vodka to mind your gear whilst you're away? ;)
When're you back up 'ere Squirrel?
Awayo May 16th, 2006, 10:26 AM Soon, I hope, rodentboy. Hold on squirrels are rodents as well, aren't they? I've not been back or seen my mum and dad in months. It's the constant pissing about of the completion date of my flat. I have a new moving in date every week, and so I put off coming up as I think I'll be moving in that week.
Over here on work. It's warm here. Bit bored, manning a stand on my own and there's no other bugger around. Wifi access, though, sooo SSC!

I remember about two years ago when we didn't have a single crane. In fact, this figure underestimates the total figure as there are some huge mobiles, such as those working on the Kings Dock arena.
Have you included the new crane by the Bluecoat? That may be included in the PSDA total but I think it may be there for the new extension to the rear of the Bluecoat Chambers.
Paul D May 28th, 2006, 09:20 PM Have you included the new crane by the Bluecoat?
I may have included it with PSDA but I'm not sure now. :ohno:

City Wide Watch - Crane count,,,,,,
It`s when it starts going out into the districts and suberbs that we will know that the engine of renewal is working......the `Hills of Liverpool` (Eleven) can provide plenty of `Vista Vista Vista`..... without destroying the areas but more adding the appreciation.
Whilst we have had some quantity talls in the past they need some quality (not green field sites in general) and more brown field and life style....which is what was left out before.

Is that figure (41)for the whole city or just the centre ?
If it's just the centre like ours then there must be a huge amount of development taking place there.

There is something going on, on the road behind and above Brunswik station, but not sure what. They had the stone wall behind Brunswick partly demolished, maybe for access. This area is due for a housing scheme, and the "Edge development" about 10 storeys is supposed to be nearby, so maybe this is upgrading the utilitys.

it seemed to start out with just small works but theres now definatel a full sized crane on site on what appears to be foundations for a building rising from the ground
JUXTAPOL July 10th, 2006, 10:19 PM Found out what this new development behind Brunswik station might be, see below.
