G_DOG September 11th, 2005, 05:36 PM looks to be over 45 stories
Filip September 11th, 2005, 06:02 PM HOT, looks really cool.:omg:
I am kinda dissapointed about the name though... I thought we'd continue praising the Matrix trilogy by calling the next in line Trinity.:(
taal September 11th, 2005, 06:11 PM Wow .. i'm holding my breath .. but that could turn out quite nice
ps .. WestOne is definitely under construction correct?
DrJoe September 11th, 2005, 06:12 PM Looks like a nice change of pace.
Bertez September 11th, 2005, 06:40 PM That is sweet
neilio September 11th, 2005, 07:39 PM wow, I tried counting the stories and its around 50! cant wait to see more stats and renderings
rbt September 11th, 2005, 08:51 PM Is this tower north of Fort York Blvd. and west of Neo?
From the waterfront it would just peak over N1 perhaps partially obscured by West One.
Travis007 September 11th, 2005, 09:09 PM I honestly don't like it judging from that render...maybe I'll change my mind when I see better renderings.
partybits September 11th, 2005, 09:56 PM I counted the floors myself as well. My eyes hurt, but seems to be in the high 40's (I counted 47). So is this going to be in the same are a NEO I presume? It actually looks kind of like it, only alot taller.
I'm glad to see that we are getting different styles of buildings now. Everything west of Spadina was the same glass point tower (vancouver) style. There seems to be an effort to add in some more variety west of Spadina.
Filip September 11th, 2005, 09:59 PM Wasn't there a plan for a 40+ storey tower near called NEO 2 or smth?
Travis007 September 11th, 2005, 10:48 PM Anyways, it looks like Montage will be the first Cityplace building that would use red brick on its cladding. Looks like the balconies will be red brick and the rest of the tower would be something like HVE II. It would be interesting to see how it turns out.
If the floor count is 47s , then include the mechanical floors which is probably equivalent to 3 floors and this is very possibly be 500 ft.
G_DOG September 12th, 2005, 12:40 AM Wow .. i'm holding my breath .. but that could turn out quite nice

yes there are currently 4 cranes at the site for west one ,n and the gallery
thay should be topped off about this time next year based on how quick it took to build harbourview estates.expect montage and neo to go up after,
by then they will be sold out.
WinnipegPatriot September 12th, 2005, 03:15 AM Yes--WOW! It will be nice to see the addition of different styles/colors to the area! It is impossible to keep track of everything!
Mr Man September 12th, 2005, 09:37 PM If you look at the Neo siteplan, it shows a tower at the northwest corner of the site. Montage must be it. Red brick - a welcomed change, this should look good!
Also, a long time back, the G&M published an article about the city's vision for the western phases of cityplace. The siteplan published showed small-scale streets with townhomes fronting them creating a attractive streetwall along with some storefronts along Bremner/Fort York Blvd. I think it's become obvious that this will not be built.
Cityplace is clearly following the forumla of large blocks with a tower or two, greenspace and an amenity building. Although this is probably they best they can build thanks to density restrictions.
It's not bad, but I wonder how pedestrian friendly the area will become. I noticed that the Neo-Montage block has a amenity building fronting most of Bremner/Fort York Blvd. That might be a little sterile. Walking past townhomes would add charecter and a human-scale to the neighbourhood. Especially in the future when residents add their own little touch and flare to their homes making them more diverse. On the other hand, the amenity building probably won't have any street enterances. It's not exactly inviting to pedestrians and it will take up most of the block.
Maybe I just like complaining but I was expecting more from Cityplace in this prime intersection. The tower is okay and Neo adds to the bold visual gateway of Spadina. But I wonder if the pedestrian experience will be lacking when all is said and done.
partybits September 13th, 2005, 01:26 AM So where does Cityplace go from here. The NE corner of Bremner/Spadina has been filled (excl. Signature Tower) long time ago. HVE filled out the SE corner. N, West One & Gallery are u/c on the SW corner. Finally, Neo & Montage (plus one more I assume) will take the NW corner.
From here, where do you suppose they will build. My guess will be westwards along Front Street. Maybe they will start the landscaping for the main park. Is'nt that supposed to be directly west of where N & West One is?
neilio September 13th, 2005, 01:56 AM i just cant wait to see signature go up!!!
so is this going to be or is it close to being the second tallest tower of cityplace after signature or will there be more in between?
Mike in TO September 13th, 2005, 07:34 PM Montage is planned at 45 stories plus mechanical space. It will be the second tallest of the Cityplace towers west of Spadina (West One is 48s + mech). Construction is targeted to be completed by the end of 2008.
It's not bad, but I wonder how pedestrian friendly the area will become. I noticed that the Neo-Montage block has a amenity building fronting most of Bremner/Fort York Blvd.
Mr. Man - The amenities are located above an approximately 40,000 square foot grocery store. That in itself should generate a fairly significant amount of traffic. By the time this phase along with the West One Block currently u/c are complete Cityplace should be reaching a critical mass of people and maybe start to feel like a real neighbourhood.
So where does Cityplace go from here? From here, where do you suppose they will build. My guess will be westwards along Front Street. Maybe they will start the landscaping for the main park. Is'nt that supposed to be directly west of where N & West One is?
There will be no expansion Westward along Front Street - Matrix and Apex will be it. The next phase after Montage/Neo will be a two tower block directly west of the Neo/Montage block on the North Side of Bremner. Bremner will be extended from Spadina to connect with Fort York Blvd at Bathurst.
rapideye95 September 13th, 2005, 07:55 PM I don't care what anyone says but that is one hell of a building...
Buster September 14th, 2005, 12:02 AM I like faux-modernism more than this frankenstein version of modernism or a less gaudy version of post-modernism. Go one way or another, but a combo's always risky.
Then again, this thing hasn't been built. I'll wait before I pass judegement.
RRo September 14th, 2005, 03:26 AM does it remind anyone of the new ritz carlton building. also, are those balconies on the right side, I HATE BALCONIES.
Travis007 September 14th, 2005, 03:53 AM ^^No, Ritz-Carlton looks A LOT better.
And I agree, those balconies, although may be made of red brick, remind me of those 60-70's apartments.
taal September 14th, 2005, 04:34 AM ^^ U might to look at but i sure do appricate them .. livining in a condo that is
Travis007 September 14th, 2005, 07:08 PM ^^I don't hate balconies...and I would personally never consider buying a condo unless it has a balcony for the views and such. But these balconies are just horrible looking.
rapideye95 September 14th, 2005, 09:11 PM Well I agree Travis...in a condo balconies are so important...if you have a unit without a blacony, all you can do is open the window for a gust of air....with a balcony you can walk out have a drink and chillax all in the comfort of ur home
Regan4000 September 14th, 2005, 09:20 PM The tallest building to date, I believe is one of the HVE, how tall is it? Will West one and Montage tower over it or just surpass it? It's nice and tall and looks great driving on the gardiner into the city from the west.

Regan
The tallest now is HVE II, which is 49s and 503 ft. WestOne will be 49s and 484 ft. And I don't think Montage will be taller than HVE II either.
Filip September 15th, 2005, 12:23 AM ^I thought West One would be taller than HVE - second tallest after Signature?
rbt September 15th, 2005, 12:28 AM I thought West One would be taller than HVE - second tallest after Signature?Ignore floor counts. Cityplace drops floors ending in 4, so the elevator and their sales information says 54 floors.

Are they going to extend Bremner all at once to Fort York, or are they only going to extend it as far as where the new buildings are going to be built...do you know?
neilio September 15th, 2005, 01:19 AM even skyscraperpage.com shows west one as being taller then HVE ...?
rbt September 15th, 2005, 03:24 AM even skyscraperpage.com shows west one as being taller then HVE ...?<Shrug>
It wouldn't be the first time they're wrong. West One was advertised as being 54 floors, but that was by the elevator count.
The information I collected shows West One being 148m to the top floor (not counting mechanical I believe) and 49 floors in height.

If you have better information with sources, just yell. Till then I'll go with my original info.
Travis007 September 15th, 2005, 03:40 AM Yeah, I always though WestOne would be a bit taller than HVE II but the list compiled on UT by Canuck says other wise. But Cityplace usually has heights lower than the actual floor count. *note Apex being about 36s while being only 346 ft. or something.
Kind of off-topic but has anyone seen the ground level retail area of HVE? It looks pretty shoddy and un-finished.
Mike in TO September 15th, 2005, 03:56 PM even skyscraperpage.com shows west one as being taller then HVE ...?
Skyscraperpage is wrong... Stats are not very reliable from there.

Very true lol, pissed me off
arrrgg
snoopy September 22nd, 2005, 03:51 AM from what i hear from the chinese tv channel advertisements Montage will be the condo with the loblaws on the ground floor. thats pretty convenient =_=''
bizorky September 23rd, 2005, 07:27 AM So what does that mean for the proposed Loblaws on Bathurst?
CrazyCanuck September 23rd, 2005, 05:45 PM from what i hear from the chinese tv channel advertisements Montage will be the condo with the loblaws on the ground floor. thats pretty convenient =_=''
It has worked well in North York, so I could not see why it wouldn't work well in this area. I seem to like this kind of big box/indepent store mix that doesn't take up useless space with miles of parking lot.
partybits September 24th, 2005, 02:08 AM So what does that mean for the proposed Loblaws on Bathurst?
I would'nt be surprised if both are going to be opened. CityPlace and the Fort York neighbourhood each have enough people to sustain a Supermarket, especially since there are so few in downtown west (Bloor/Bathurst, College/Ossington, King/Hanna, Queen/Dufferin).
When you go to the suburbs, you often see competing grocery stores right beside eachother, and the density is 10 times less than CityPlace/Fort York.
The Mad Hatter!! September 24th, 2005, 02:18 AM i really like this one,neo was a bit on the ugly side but this one has some character hopefully they don't cheap out and add some red brick and not just red paint, but one thing that needs to be improved is the roof the tower just seems to end abruptly and kinda makes the building look funny.
doady September 24th, 2005, 02:51 AM All of Cityplace buildings are kind of ugly but this one looks really nice.
snoopy September 24th, 2005, 03:00 AM i hope this building doesn't turn out as bad as the commercial on the chinese channels (36,14) ... Brief Summary:
A Couple is living in the Montage building... they are lying on the bed
Girl is angry at husband.. since he always leaves her for work
Guy goes downstairs and goes to the Supermarket... buys Green Tea ice cream
Guy "secretly" puts the ice cream in the "fridge" and not the freezer portion of the refridgerator
Girl Finds the ice cream with a sorry note and is pleased again... because they live @ Montage... where whenever the husband makes her mad.. she can expect to recieve convienently purchased watery ice cream from downstairs... GREAT EFFORT GUY.. great effort =_=''
Otherwise... i really believe this is the best cityplace building so far if i base my decision completely on the render.
Travis007 September 24th, 2005, 11:00 PM ^^ LOL- I saw that on Omni 2 last night during the Cantonese News hour. I didn't understand what they said (since I'm Filipino) but I doubt it would have anything to do with the actualt tower. But I don't know if it means that there will be a Loblaws at the base of it or anything. It will most likely be a Rabba Fine Foods/Kitchen Table kind of store but I think I heard that there might be a Pusateri's in one of the Cityplace towers.
I also saw a commercial about a 20 storey or so Mon Shong retirement residence in Scarborough.
snoopy September 25th, 2005, 01:18 AM yup yup... Mon Sheong (pronounced Man Seung) is building condos on their plot of land at the North East corner of Kennedy and McNicol.. diagonally across from the Tridel condos... (the old "one more" restaurant.. i think its a vietnamese restaurant now) it will be a pretty good location and a vast improvement from what is there now (empty lot beside the actual Mon Sheong retirement home...)
ALSO on a side note... Kennedy and Denison (South East corner close to PacMall) has just released phase two of the residences of Casa del Sol or whatever.. i don't remember the entire name. Each building will be 8 stories. Its an okay design... but at least even markham is getting built up more now!
