Galp energia has announced it will lead a three-company consortium in bidding in a 1,500-megawatt international wind power tender recently opened by the portuguese government. Portugal's leading energy company said recently it was joining metallic structure builder martifer and wind-power producer enersis in a 1 billion euros investment to creat a wind-power" industrial cluster" in Portugal. In announcing the tender last month , Prime minister Jose Socrates said his government foresaw investments of some 3 billion euros in the renewable energy sector by 2010 to reduce Portugal's dependence on oil imports. Galp Energia said the structure of the consortium was still under negotiation but that in principle it would hold a 51% stake,with the balance equally devided between Enersis and Martifer. Beyond licencing production of 1,500 megawatts of wind generated power, the international tender is focused on the creation of employment opportunities, stipulating the creation of 700 direct job openings and of another 1,400 indirect post. The government has set jan.30,2006, as the deadline for receiving bids.
