Isan September 17th, 2005, 04:49 AM Thailand plans major tourists’ destinations

Even as Hong Kong gears up for the launch of Disneyland, scheduled to open today, Thailand has indicated about it plans to develop “five similar tourist magnets to help maintain the country's appeal in the region.”
“Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has revived his plan to introduce casinos to Thailand as a last-ditch gamble to boost the sagging tourism industry amid increased competition from rival Asian destinations, the tourism and sports minister said yesterday,” says Thailand’s daily The Nation.
According to another daily Bangkok Post, Pracha Maleenont, the tourism and sports minister, said the attractions, one of which would be the Chiang Mai Night Safari, would all be positioned to draw international tourists. “We should concentrate the budget on the development of major tourist attractions in each region of the country. Such major attractions will then become effective magnets that can draw international tourists,” said Pracha. The minister indicated that the Chiang Mai Night Safari could become a Thai rival to Disneyland. The key difference between Chiang Mai Night Safari and Disneyland is that the safari park will feature outdoor entertainment activities rather than high-tech amusement rides, said Mr Pracha.
As per the report in The Nation, Pracha said the one region one casino initiative was proposed in response to the opening of Hong Kong Disneyland this month and two casinos in Singapore in the next few years. The ministry said that the PM has assigned the Government Lottery Office to conduct a feasibility study that should be completed by the end of this year.
According to local media, Thailand witnessed a sharp decline in tourism since the tsunami (in December last year. “In the first half of the year, fewer than 6 million tourists visited Thailand, well off the pace to reach the tourism authority’s target of 13.4 million visitors for the entire year,” said local media.

I think it's good to have..Pick only one province and build up like in Vegas but only laws and regulations are straight forward with no corruption and so on. That province should be the poorest or no oppotunities to work or make money.

even tho, we know the thais love gambling, but by encouraging them to do more and more wont do any good to the nation. we are still lacking of good educaiton, and maturity, this will just cripple the already-weak society, like giving a gun to the 5 yr old kid.
imagine, a middle class family, where daddy always gambled, he was a gold member of one of the police/politician-owned casino, and went mad because he always lost big time at the casino, he got back home with anger, beated his wife who is a house-wife and his school-kickout 15 yr old son, and next day, the dad went back to casino aiming at win back some, but he lost again, the same story begun repeatedly.
the son aint wanna stay home and he hated his dad like shit, and believed one day he will kill him, so he always crushed his drug-addicted ghetto friend's spot who his dad was a police/politician and the casino owner and got his mom working at the casino, the son and his friend did cracks and heroine for fun, got high occasionally. the son ended up borrowing his friend's gun and went back home found his dad was beating his mom, he shot his dad in the ass to death. the kid was put in jail, and was raped and killed by a prison gang, the mom got so desperated, she became a street hooker, and caught herself the HIV disease from one of her customer, and she eventually commited suicide by jumping off the condo rooftop.
the tragic story has never been revealed in the papers, the casino is doing great and still go on, and on, and on..
there's no any law or regulation in this world will come to effectiveness, if the authorities do not strictly enforce it. do u believe our thai authorities can take care of this shit? NO WAY!
kiku99 September 19th, 2005, 04:07 AM "unless start a new city dedicated to casinos like Las Vegas"
hmm..agree.
Ten September 19th, 2005, 07:51 AM But I think that might be fine....if we screen out people who want to get to the casino. Only rich (or at least having like..a million bucks in bank), tourist or businessmen are allow to use the casino service. No general class citizen get inside there. What do you guys think?
muzic_lover2981 September 19th, 2005, 06:14 PM Hi guys, im just new here! I have question in mind! What is the biggest casino there in Thailand? And where it is located?Ten, your really updated huh?

Totally agreed
It was just resemble of sword had its two blade ;)
Can be giving us on both hand of wealthy or needy that the brighten and dakness side to the community at the result eventually even to the general public themselves if the govn't has been approved to build-in legally
At least local ppl will not be going outside desperately to the neighbourhood boundary for flirt as more be convenience and save up to in-land economy than ever if we had
Like YYZ here casino, it could be contribution back of better social welfare to the community though it was harmfulness to mostly family are they to indulge in vain as same as we will be facing to .........................
BUT assurance that more social problem and family delinquency would be existed inevitabilly because it's kind of globe phenomenon :)
Then what are we doing now to the next ????????
Just let it be lah~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kalix September 20th, 2005, 03:16 AM Once the thais are matured enough, u don't need to worry about having these sort of facilities in the country, because they will always be cautious.
the problem is when it will be?
having the thais to travel outside of country is better than just building one locally, as it makes things harder for the poor to go out and gamble there.
there's no way, u can screen the rich out from the poor, as the poor could always borrow money from the rich to make themselves rich enough to enter the casinos. As the rich are mostly smarter, they don't need to go to the casinos to gamble, just lend the poor some money, charge them with high interest, they don't need to take any risks.
trust me, Thailand is not there yet.

There are numbers of them on Thai border (mainly Mynmar and Cambodia)
