I wouldn’t say that Bosnian culture was taken away from the war. Sarajevo is always going to be the center of cultures colliding, no matter how many wars there are. :)

Slavko Vidić, predsjednik Sindikata Rafinerije nafte Bosanski Brod

BiH: CANADIAN GOVERNMENT’S DONATION FOR RAILWAY SECTOR

SARAJEVO, October 10 (FENA) – Representatives of the BiH Public Railway Corporation (BHZJK) and the European Bank for Recovery and Development (EBRD) Dragisa Hadzic and Josip Polic on Monday signed the Agreement on the Canadian Government’s donation for procuring and installing the information-technological system for the railway sector in BiH.

This donation worth 1, 3 million euros, according to BHZJK Dragisa Hadzic, will enable appliance of an information system that will enable the corporation to be the carrier of transport and generator of country’s development. EBRD ensured the donation of the Canadian Government.

Charge d’Affaires of the Canadian Embassy Peter Paproski said that Canada supported this process with support of the Canadian Fund for the Balkans.

BiH Minister of Transport and Communications Branko Dokic expressed gratitude to the Canadian Government, noting that this is donation is a significant contribution to technological development of the railways. The project envisages procuring and installing hardware and basic software.

Dokic announced designing of the strategy for development of travel infrastructure in BiH with support from EBRD, which should be completed in the next year, adding that the negotiations with EBRD and the European Investment Bank for a new credit for BiH Railways, worth 140 million euros, start this week in London.

1) Mostarska Saborna, Ferhadija i još neka hrvatska katedrala će biti obnovljene, a obnoviće ih neko šesti, čini mi se neki Francuzi;

Dutchman top candidate to succeed Ashdown in Bosnia

10.10.2005 - 09:58 CET | By Mark Beunderman

Dutch carreer diplomat Michiel Patijn has a good chance to succeed Paddy Ashdown as the EU’s special representative in Bosnia, according to Dutch media.

On the basis of senior sources in the Dutch foreign ministry, Dutch weekly Vrij Nederland reports that Mr Patijn, who just stepped down as Dutch ambassador with NATO, is set to succeed Mr Ashdown.

But according to NRC Handelsblad, Czech and Italian candidates are also in the running for the post.

Mr Patijn, a liberal like Mr Ashdown, has been a Dutch state secretary for European affairs, as well as a top official at The Hague’s defence ministry.

Mr Ashdown’s job combines the function of EU special representative with that of High Representative of the International Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The post was installed as part of the 1995 Dayton Peace Agreement, and involves wide-ranging competencies including the possible blocking of Bosnian legislation as well as the sacking of high Bosnian officials, including ministers.

Mr Ashdown is said to have recently exerted strong pressure on the Bosnian Serb leadership to accept a key police reform necessary for Bosnia to begin talks on a preliminary Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) with Brussels.

The parliament of the Republika Srpska, the ethnic Serb entity within Bosnia-Herzegovina, last week by a large majority adopted the controversial police reform, which it had by an equally large majority rejected three weeks ago.

Bosnia is now set to follow the EU path of Croatia, which last week started EU accession talks, and of Serbia, which opened SAA talks in September.

Saray: I'm very angry with you. You know that I won't change the title to this thread no matter what you say, because I know I'm right. Herzegovina isn't even said by most Bosnians, why add it in the title when it's not needed to be there.
Like you offered, if you really want to make a Herzegovina development thread, be my guest. As you see in this thread, I include pictures, construction and news from cities in Herzegovina. It's not like I decided to take Herzegovina information out of this thread, I just chose not to include it in my title. Period!

LordMarshall: There are some people that can't read Bosnian very well, such as bloodsaric. Can you please continue to write a short summary of the articles you're posting so that he (and other people who can't read Bosnian) can understand what is being written? I will do the same, thank you. :)

bloodsaric: I'm really happy that you're interested in Bosnia, and the developments that are currently going on in the country. I'd just like to ask when you're quoting some of the posts made by other formers, you'll give a link of the post instead of quoting the whole post which may include many pictures. Also, the newest updates for the Bosmal City Center are in Bosnian, not in English. Their website decided to stop updating the English version, since most people viewing their website were Bosnian. Thank you. :)

skyscraper_BIH: Even though you've been causing some problems, I'd like to thank you for the contribution of articles you've posting in this thread.

bloodsaric[/B]: I'm really happy that you're interested in Bosnia, and the developments that are currently going on in the country. Thank you. :).

Err sorry, I kind of figured out that I should not do that. Oh and the pictures for Bosmal are from the Bosnian site not from English one.

EC: 2, 5 MILLION EUROS FOR HIGH JUDICIAL AND PROSECUTORIAL COUNCIL

SARAJEVO, October 12 (FENA) – The Head of Delegation of the European Commission in BiH, Ambassador Michael Humphreys, and Director of Secretariat of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council (HJPC) Elmira Pasagic on Wednesday signed the contract on EC assistance to HJPC in processes of modernization and reforms in BiH.

The contract for 2006 and 2007 is worth 2, 5 million euros.

The donation refers to support for projects of reorganizing minor offence courts, computerization of judiciary with linking of all courts and prosecutor offices in BiH, and support in education of judges and prosecutors, which will be implemented by the Entity centres for education of judges and prosecutors.

Ambassador Humphreys commended the results BiH has achieved over the past three years in the field of judicial reform. The Court of BiH and HJPC were established in that period, while other reforms in this sector are progressing, he added.

“But this progress must be continued”, stressed Humphreys, adding that an “efficient State judicial system is absolutely vital for BiH’s membership in the EU”.

HJPC President Branko Peric thanked the EC Delegation for their support in establishing the Council, particularly for the significant donation for building this institution’s complex, worth 2, 2 million euros.

“The support we will receive over the next two years will be a strong contribution to continuity of reforms in the judicial sector. Thanks to the support provided by the European Commission, we have made significant progress in building a sustainable and efficient judicial system so that I dare to say that BiH today is ahead of the countries in the region”, said Peric.

bili Cimos, Impol, Meltal, Alpina i Koto.

http://www.oslobodjenje.ba/images/stories/dnevno/12okt/eko2.jpg

US urges Bosnians to strengthen common state
Wed Oct 12, 2005 1:59 PM ET165

By Nedim Dervisbegovic

SARAJEVO (Reuters) - The United States urged Bosnia's Muslim, Serb and Croat leaders on Wednesday to replace the three-man, inter-ethnic presidency with a single president to create a stronger, more cohesive state.

U.S. Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns, starting a Balkan tour, said he expected a strong commitment on these reforms by the time Balkan leaders visit Washington next month for the 10th anniversary of Bosnia's Dayton peace treaty.

The treaty, which ended a 1992-95 civil war, had served its purpose and must now evolve, Burns said.

"They will commit themselves to the ambition of further constitutional reform in the spirit of Dayton and that will be the objective of the single presidency and an strengthened premiership and an effective parliament," he said.

"I don't know when it'll be made but the process will start with the Washington summit meetings in November and when that happens this country will become a more normal country like any other European country," he added.

Burns' message set a fresh challenge for unity in a chronically divided country of some four million people used to having its ethnic struggles resolved by Western carrot-and-stick tactics.

"AN ABNORMAL SITUATION"

Bosnia is made up of the Bosnian Serb republic and the Muslim-Croat Federation, each with a high degree of autonomy, which are spanned by a weak central government.

The U.S. diplomat's proposal was certain to cause an uproar among Bosnian Serbs who see centralization as a direct attack on their sovereignty.

It was only after years of preparation and months of arms-twisting that they finally agreed this year to the creation of a single Bosnian army and, more recently, unified police.

The police reform would pave the way for the European Union to recommend by the end of the year the start of talks on the Stabilization and Association agreement -- the first rung on the long road to EU membership -- by the end of the year.

But Western peace officials have been saying that Bosnia's current complicated constitutional arrangement breeds inter-ethnic bickering, slowing down the pace of decision making and hindering efforts to speed up economic and social recovery.

"What you have now ten years after Dayton is still, frankly, an abnormal situation with tri-presidency and with the entities controlling so much of the national life of this country," Burns said.

Bosnia's membership in NATO's Partnership for Peace for ex-communist has been on hold for a year-and-a-half because of Bosnian Serbs' failure to hand over their wartime leader and genocide suspect Radovan Karadzic for a trial at a U.N. court.

Burns said Bosnian leaders told him at a meeting in Sarajevo that Karadzic and his wartime military leader Ratko Mladic, also a genocide suspect wanted by The Hague U.N. war crimes court and believed to be hiding in Serbia, should give themselves up.

Croatia and Bosnia plan to build Corridor 5 motorway (going through Bosnia) in joint venture .... If project gets a go-ahead a 337km motorway could be built entirely with in 8 years, costing some 3€ billion would be one of largest investments in Bosnian infrastructure and would greatly benefit both countries, it would allow quicker transit of foreign tourist to Adriatic coast as well help Bosnia connect its major cities, Tuzla, Sarajevo, Zanica and Mostar. Projects has been proposed by Izet Bajrambašić of Bosnian Ministry of Roads of communication...

Croatia is reviewing the proposals and offers and plans to finance Bosnian feasibility study in excess of 8 million euros... If Project goes ahead Croatia will co-finance the project with 1.5 billion US$ in return for 50% share....

they are talking of doing it, but bc poor credit rating (BB-) Loans might be very expensive option for Bosnia, only help would be EU finds and EBRD, but they have minimum requirement that 50% of funds be provided by local financiers.

Croatia has some experience and could help with some funds, after all it is paying for feasibility study what ever Bosnia decided, sort of Gratis Memoradai...

Zamjena instalacija usporila radove u centru Sarajeva
Popločavanje Titove ulice do kraja oktobra

I dont know about this, I dont like the idea. BiH should try to get loans and credits and build it by it self.

It would be a great idea if Bosnia can do this but from what I understand both countries want to speed up the corridor 5c project and this is one of the options up for evaluation. Not only will it open up Bosnia but it also helps Croatia in tandem as it gives the quickest link between the city of Osijek (Eastern Slavonia) with the port of Ploce (Southern Dalmatia). This project I believe is the single most important project to Bosnia's economic revival.

Ploce too is also Bosnia's primary port. :)

If Croatia is offering to co-build this project to speed it up then I think its a positive thing. At the end of the day the motorways will always be a part of Bosnia.

The geographic boundaries place Croatia & Bosnia hand in hand. What positive things happen in one country always flows onto its neighbour vica-versa (Croatia-Bosnia). :)

 yes but developing a project with 2 countries offers a better relationship towards the future of each country, I know that it is very important to Bosnia but this way they will stake only half the money and still be able to finish all the other projects, future projects and extra one with the money going to the extra ones...I am just making a opinion, thats all.

I can see where you coming from, you want to keep most of the revenue and this is great, but getting foreign loans for Bosnia now is something very prohibitive, unless development conference and countries donate more money for something like, it is very hard to think this motorway will ever get off, I am eternal optimist, and think Investors might show up and build the thing, which is great, but than it would not be Bosnian owned but foreign owned and Bosnia would get very little financial inceptive to go this way, other option is Croatia financing this thing only, sort giving a loan or financial help to Bosnia which Croatia can afford, but in return Croatia would probably want to have same say, as to who makes the motorway, how much is spent and where the routes goes...

Bosnia is Croatia's one of the most important economic and diplomatic friends, always was and always will be, this motorway is of significant importance for Croatia, but more vitally for Bosnia as it would allow Bosnia great economic growth and help Bosnian economy to stand on its feet. We aretalking about employment and new commerce opportunities that come with all this.

Example, Split had population of 192 000 Inhabitants in 2001, it is estimated population of Split has reached 225 000, Population of Zadar was 72 000 - now 85 000, Dubrovnik - 45 000 - now 57 000, all due to better motorway which made smaller cities more important and allowed better commerce, growth in economy this year is excepted to reach 4.25%, not bad when only in December last year most Croatian banks predicted growth of 3.5% at most.... :) :) :)

I think good motorway would do great things for Bosnia, imagine commerce and business opportunities alone..

Motorways help tremendously to any country that makes them. It’s only harder for Bosnia to make them because we have more mountainous terrain, making the construction process much longer.
It’s good that Bosnia and Croatia are using each others ideas and making things happen. Hopefully they’ll become huge partners in trade and things like that.

They already are Mimica, Croatia imports about 25% of all Bosnians exports... I think Croatia is already largest foreign investor in Bosnia or in top 3... This year Croatia imported about 360$ million worth of goods from Bosnia, it is excepted by the year's end import might reach 500$ million, a growth of nearly 27%...

sorry to disappoint you, nothing of Iraq will come to good, Americans have secured most of the contracts even the crumbs have been picked up, Bosnia should first concentrate at home needs, and how it can improve its own infrastructure often than not most of this contracts in middle east where never paid well and in some cases never. Iraq comes to my mind ,lol...

Iraq owes Yugoslavia, (what was) about 1.6 billion$, you can kiss goodbye to this money, France is owed over 20 billion and they sat there peace and moved on, lol.. Iraq owes over 400 billion US$, most of it will never be paid, ever...

SARAJEVO: PRESENTED PROJECT "CENTRAL DATABASE ON FOREIGNERS IN BiH"

SARAJEVO, October 12 (FENA) – The European Commission and the International Organization on Migration (IOM) on Wednesday organized a presentation of the Project “Central database on foreigners in BiH”.

The said system is one of the most contemporary computerized databases for monitoring migrations, was said at the presentation.

Aim of the Central database on foreigners in BiH is to enable BiH institutions to manage precise records on status of foreigners in BiH.

The Project was financially supported by the European Commission through the CARDS Programme, and International Organization for Migration implemented it. The hardware equipment is worth 800.000 euros.

IOM Head of Mission Regina Boucault stressed that BiH has become a leader in the region in view of creating a central database on foreigners, adding that the neighboring countries are also interested in establishing similar systems.

“Establishment of the Central database on foreigners in BiH is a great step forward in helping BiH create a system for monitoring migration”, said Boucault.

She stressed that the Central database is a product of the BiH State and that it concerns cooperation between the BiH Ministry of Security, BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Civil Affairs and State Border Service.

Project Manager Sinisa Macan said that the system is currently in the phase of testing, and that it will be in function by the end of the year.

Croatia is reviewing the proposals and offers and plans to finance Bosnian feasibility study in excess of 8 million euros... If Project goes ahead Croatia will co-finance the project with 1.5 billion US$ in return for 50% share....
Why would Croatia fund something that is already finished? The final draft of feasibility study and documents have been presented to the government (complete documentation will be handed over to the gov. in November), already paid for. :dunno: :)

they are talking of doing it, but bc poor credit rating (BB-) Loans might be very expensive option for Bosnia, only help would be EU finds and EBRD, but they have minimum requirement that 50% of funds be provided by local financiers.

Croatia has some experience and could help with some funds, after all it is paying for feasibility study what ever Bosnia decided, sort of Gratis Memoradai...

Actually the credit rating for Bosnia, a country in transition, is not poor but everyone has his opinion. The load of foreign debt that Bosnia is actually very low for a country in its position, and as stated governor of the Bosnian Central Bank, Bosnia right now could carry the load of debt for construction of the corridor. This was confirmed by IMF and EBRD. The cost of financing would not be that different between the two countries because Croatia according to all credit ratings is stretched to the limit with a huge foreign debt and still has other internal project (which are of greater importance) to sustain.
The biggest obstacle in Bosnia getting the money and building the highway is not who is going to fund it and how, but the lack of political will inside Bosnia to go out and do something/anything about it. The politicians are more interested in appeasing their own ethnic group instead of thinking about what the country needs. :bash:

A. ŠIŠIĆ

Formirana Specijalna jedinica SIPA

Živim s mužem i roditeljima i obrađujemo šest dunuma zemlje.

Just plain disgusting:(
Football, while indeed "a beautiful game", attracts the worst breed of people.

Though, i think events in Belgrade were not any worse than they were in Sarajevo the past couple of games, where on one occasion a Serbian fan not only had his car torched but also lost an eye.

Montirani podgledi

***** ***** ***** ***** *****
