View Full Version : Petronas Towers VS. WTC Towers
Travis007 September 21st, 2005, 04:39 AM Two of the most famous twin towers in skyscraper history. Both set of twins are iconic and have/had a great impact of their respective skyline. I think this would all depend on your taste in architecture. Do you prefer boxier 70's style buildings or ultra-modern buildings?
I choose Petronas. :)
Petronas

TalB September 21st, 2005, 09:00 PM I would say the Twins b/c the were a symbol to the world, and they did not cheat for height.
James Foong September 21st, 2005, 09:35 PM I would say the PETRONAS b/c they were an ICONIC to the world, and they did not MEAN for height.

WTC looks like box
FM 2258 September 22nd, 2005, 01:07 AM WTC Towers, NYC
That is what a skyscraper should look like. It's what people visualize when they think of the term skyscraper.
I would say the Twins b/c the were a symbol to the world, and they did not cheat for height.
^^ Also what this guy said, they didn't cheat either. Plus the WTC meant BUSINESS.
Siopao September 22nd, 2005, 01:17 AM WTC Towers, NYC
That is what a skyscraper should look like. It's what people visualize when they think of the term skyscraper.
And the petronas refuses to blend in :)
Travis007 September 22nd, 2005, 01:38 AM WTC Towers, NYC
That is what a skyscraper should look like. It's what people visualize when they think of the term skyscraper.
Meh...that doesn't mean much. It's just like the concept of a drawing of a house is simply a triangle and square. Buildings like Petronas force people to think out-side the box, which is good.:)
Azn_chi_boi September 22nd, 2005, 01:39 AM WTC, too bad they are gone
Siopao September 22nd, 2005, 01:43 AM I like it how the petronas glows at night :clown:
Fallen Blade September 22nd, 2005, 02:14 AM The World Trade Center.
It was just brilliant in it's simplicity. The Towers proved that boxes could be gorgeous if done right. (Sears' would be another example) Plus, I love how massive they looked from any vantage point. And the symbolism! Like a previous poster mentioned, they were a symbol of Business, Prosperity, and Capitalism. So naturally I'm biased.
Petronas' are beautiful in their own right, but I'd take the WTC over them.

DïegôLG September 22nd, 2005, 02:34 AM Petronas Towers, just beautiful
Louman September 22nd, 2005, 02:48 AM You can probably store the Petronas Towers inside the WTC. They were so huge!
SpotlessMind September 22nd, 2005, 02:52 AM It's hard seeing those WTC pics. Hard to believe they are... really gone. :(
Chino_waro September 22nd, 2005, 03:01 AM WTC. they seem alot bigger
1984 D.F. September 22nd, 2005, 03:15 AM Petronas Tower
Khanabadosh September 22nd, 2005, 03:12 PM Patronas are more beautiful. It is very sad that WTC twin towers are no more.
B@dGuYoM September 22nd, 2005, 03:21 PM tie for me
Marcanadian September 22nd, 2005, 10:50 PM WTC was great for its time and its a lot larger. Hmm Petronas is nice though. Ill go with Petronas as its more amazing
jlshyang September 23rd, 2005, 08:29 PM Petronas Twin Towers but i will mourn the destruction of WTC so i'm not voting.
SEED September 23rd, 2005, 08:54 PM architecture and beauty wise.. Petronas over WTC.. and yes!! i cant be bother wit whos higher than who..
New York Yankee September 23rd, 2005, 10:58 PM The "ORIGIONAL" twins!
The WTC
samsonyuen September 24th, 2005, 12:42 AM WTC by far. I really disliked Petronas at first, but now they're not so bad.
F i l o September 24th, 2005, 04:14 AM WTC
Cliff September 24th, 2005, 06:14 AM WTC used to be called "big buildings, but not great architecture"
Petronas are still called "iconic symbols of Malaysia"
anyhow, I would choose Petronas over wtc by a mile. WTC does have more history though.:)
Sinjin P. September 24th, 2005, 07:00 AM Petronas Towers for me.
hirev8118 September 24th, 2005, 07:41 AM My vote goes to Petronas Twin Towers. ( I live facing them). They give me inspiration.
However, World Trade Centre has more historical, political and economical status in an international point of view.
My solemn condolences to victims of the 9/11 tragedy.
i_am_hydrogen September 24th, 2005, 08:08 AM There's nothing particularly great about the architecture of the WTC. But, for whatever reason, I've always been drawn to those buildings. I love the way they looked from different vantage points in New York. I miss them very much.
WTC.
beyond 1000 September 24th, 2005, 08:41 AM I voted Petronas but really it should be a tie. I love the beauty of Petronas but I also love the corporate power and simplicity of WTC. Both are a hit.
DrunKao September 28th, 2005, 06:05 AM 110 stories. 1970s. Need I say more?
Dancer September 28th, 2005, 06:15 AM WTC! Though I love the Petronas Towers the WTC was so much more original.
Facial September 28th, 2005, 06:42 AM Petronas towers are beautiful, but...
WTC was built in 1976. Twenty years later they cannot come up with anything substantially higher: the Petronas Towers cheated with those spires really badly.
WTC.
cincobarrio September 28th, 2005, 06:46 AM WTC > Petronas
TheOldMan September 28th, 2005, 06:49 AM WTC Twin Towers -too bad they are gone
Mr.ASAP September 28th, 2005, 07:06 AM WTC .....it very well represents the 'power'' of the city .......Petronas is very nice, with all the nagular architecture involved but still WTC rocks ! :) its more than just two towers :)
SoHo~ September 28th, 2005, 07:45 AM Petronas towers are beautiful, but...
WTC was built in 1976. Twenty years later they cannot come up with anything substantially higher: the Petronas Towers cheated with those spires really badly.
WTC.
Petronas Towers didnt cheat !!
Actually , Petronas towers were never meant to be the world's tallest , those spires were added because the designer thought it would look nicer and more proportioned to the entire structure . if they really wanted to surpass WTC , why would they designed it with ony 88 stories ? , knowingly WTC has 110 stories ? and theres a different between spires and attenas . attena' height doesnt count . But spires actually count !!
Daniil N. September 28th, 2005, 07:58 AM Guys, are you fuckin' crazy? It's so cruel... It seems like compare two people, who is more beautiful. "Oh, sorry, i forget, one of 'em is dead now, but it's ok, let's compare"
New Jack City September 28th, 2005, 08:29 AM Petronas Towers didnt cheat !!

They designed them with 88 floors because the number 8 is considered good luck. Anyway, WTC over Petronas for me. I remember watching a documentary on the Petronas and Pelli was saying how he took the WTC Towers as an inspiration for the whole twin tower concept with the Petronas.

R u sure Pelli with more long achievements n experiences would take WTC as the inspiration? He is one of the world's master architect just like I.M. Pei, thats think out of the box. There r numerous documented stories on petronas. It boils down to how you judge the source of the documentary. ;)
paul.skyscrapercity August 2nd, 2006, 07:46 PM The WTC TWINS are (were) the best i loved that boxy look of them and that plainless look and they shined all colors you can think of orange, pink, yellow, grey, white, red. there architecture was not that bad, ive seen worse buildings. the towers were always called bad architecture becouse there were no shapes in them.
SNT1 August 2nd, 2006, 07:53 PM i bet if its not the WTC, people wouldnt speak highly of two grey boxes. The structure of WTC is boring at best, although its just...so...iconic. And it fits right in NY. However, talking about skyscrapers, Petronas is simply better looking IMO
Ginza August 2nd, 2006, 11:30 PM The twin towers in reality were very ugly buildings the desing and the buildings themself were to simple,it is only by the fact that the towers were destroyed that they became a symbol, the symbol of new york before the towers were destroyed was the empire state building, in my opinion the Petronas Towers have a much better desing than the WTC
innov8 August 2nd, 2006, 11:37 PM World Trade Center, New York!!! The design was simple but made an impression.
PLUS: the observation deck was on the roof!!! :)
alsen August 3rd, 2006, 12:31 AM Petronas Towers
Mr. Fusion August 3rd, 2006, 01:25 AM Petronas, I simply prefer the look of glass over gray, and round and tapered over boxy.
Ecthelion August 3rd, 2006, 01:30 AM :) World Trade Center for me
sc4 August 3rd, 2006, 04:03 AM Duh....Petronas for me. The votes would've been different if WTC were still around. Only now that it's gone that they got many votes........
Sinjin P. August 3rd, 2006, 04:06 AM WTC for paving the way for towers like Patronas.
koolkid August 3rd, 2006, 04:15 AM WTC! I always liked the twin towers when i was a kid...
nano2192 August 3rd, 2006, 04:23 AM I liked the WTC...although Petronas have a better design..
koolkid August 3rd, 2006, 04:26 AM ^^ I agree...
Leeigh August 3rd, 2006, 06:32 AM Petronas for me but I think this thread should be closed cause WTC is is no longer around...a lil insensitive and cruel to be comparing one that exists and one that has 'deceased'...especially when it was being destroyed by terrorists and thousands dead.
Mosaic August 3rd, 2006, 06:43 AM I like them both but Petronas is more beautiful.
Taller, Better August 3rd, 2006, 07:05 AM Uhmmm. Bad taste. A lot of people died there... let's let it rest, ok? I vividly remember visiting WTC on many occasions and I remember the day it blew up and I just don't feel like putting it through a beauty pageant. Bad karma all 'round.
-Corey- August 3rd, 2006, 07:12 AM WORLD TRADE CENTER
Judazzz August 3rd, 2006, 12:00 PM I find the Petronas Towers much more beautiful (they are a true piece of art as far as design concept goes, imo.), so they get my vote.
The WTC is much more impressive, and fits into its surroundings much better - they completed the Lower Manhattan skyline, and that skyline in turn added to the appearance of the WTC. But in essence they are big boxes: extremely iconic, impressive and in a way even pretty elegant, but not really beautiful when compared to the Petronas.
HOUSECLUBBING August 3rd, 2006, 12:13 PM World Trade Center.
El_Greco August 3rd, 2006, 11:36 PM Petronas
MâF August 4th, 2006, 12:43 AM WTC always.
The Twins were sofisticated, simply perfect; Petronas are just one more, just higgers than other buildings.
I will always remenber my first visit to NYC... when I returned, two years later, they were gone...
P.S. Sorry about my english
Dreamlıneя August 5th, 2006, 12:20 AM The Petronas Towers are my favorite skyscrapers!! They look amazing
ANTONIO A.V. August 5th, 2006, 01:59 AM PETRONAS, Simply the best
broadie August 5th, 2006, 02:35 AM wct are more domenating and the pertonas look ugly from far away
Mimar August 5th, 2006, 09:56 PM PETRONAS
Cunning Linguist August 5th, 2006, 10:54 PM WTC no question. I'm not a fan of the Petronas towers. Even though the WTC were boring boxes.... they were just so grand and epic... they just screamed power and strength and were the defintion of the skyscraper.
Now they're gone :(
thelongranger101 August 6th, 2006, 08:50 PM petronas
Columbusboy08 August 6th, 2006, 09:25 PM World Trade Center for sure. Never got to see them in person but I hope they will be rebuilt someday as opposed to the freedumb tower.
crossbowman August 6th, 2006, 11:51 PM Petronas Towers :)
TalB August 7th, 2006, 03:58 AM Whenever you looked at the WTC from the ground up on a cloudy day, they look like they can go on forever.
Skyprince August 18th, 2006, 07:25 PM There is a big bias over here. Of course Americans would choose their WTC and Malaysians like me would vote for Petronas as a symbol of patriotism
WTC height is impressive given it was built in 1976 ,
Petronas--well it can be seen from my apartment in Shah Alam City which is 30 km away.

Very Controversial August 23rd, 2006, 07:02 AM Petronas, but WTC is also good looking.
Alweron September 14th, 2006, 05:23 PM There is no question about it! Petronas towers look so much better. WTC towers are (was :( ) quite boring after all.
Zaqattaq September 14th, 2006, 09:19 PM WTC, so simple so good
Spencer September 14th, 2006, 09:48 PM WTC. These towers were just magnificent with all that their cuboid simplicity. As for me, Petronas look kinda "kitschy"
DecoJim September 25th, 2006, 03:54 AM In view of the 9/11 tragedy, it is probably hard for most people to be unbaised. I will try my best...
WTC: Raw, unabashed power as abstract art. Aesthetically, it was fortunate that two towers were built as one would have been rather dull.
Petronas: Pretty but the design is a bit too fussy (I understand that shapes typically used in Islamic art were combined to create the outlines of each floorplan). The skybridge is a cool concept but does not look very elegant. The spire controversy is very annoying.
WTC gets my vote by a slight margin.
Miguel_Prat September 25th, 2006, 04:10 AM World Trade Center
SaRaJeVo-City September 25th, 2006, 04:55 AM WTC of course, they were best twin towers and will always be the best....
Leeigh September 25th, 2006, 05:15 AM TOO much sentiments ruled judgements on this thread....and yea also, pride and USA always better, bigger and advance in the universe. Boy...americans sure are sheltered.
nygirl September 26th, 2006, 07:15 AM I wanna tie this one up. The Petronas shape blows the typical box out of the water anyway you cut it. The buildings penetrate the sky so dramatically out of a much less dense cluster than the World Trade Center did and therefore have this totally mindblowing presense 10 x they normally would with a cluser just as dense and powerful as lower Manhattan. They have this total space age appearance that warrants these mesmerizing giants as the future of great architecture. They are like the keystone of future great architecture.
The World Trade Center was massive. Alone without 7world trade, or the lowrise portion of the complex it swallows petronas. They were so imbedded in ones memory ( America ) throughout the dramatic timeline of what was the Capitalist Icon for the age. The rise astonished 1960's New York and appaled them. They served as Manhattans pinnacle and were the first to end Empire State's 31 year reign. When they were knocked down it terrified us, angered us, and to me it rejuvinates us and makes us stronger. They were however simple even though they soared and somewhat uninviting and "intimidating" instead of graceful. World Trade Center would be my biased choice but I'll stick with a tie since I really cannot decide.
Manila-X September 26th, 2006, 04:06 PM Though I like the Petronas architecture. I still prefer The World Trade Centre. The builidngs are a classic.
Merlinakos September 27th, 2006, 09:44 AM :cheers1:
both towers are magnificent... but why compare marilyn monroe to beyonce
wtc is like a classic novel = people say it's great but won't take a second look
try staring at this picture for 10 mins
:tiasd:
where do u think yr eye will focus more, the square box?
TheBaseTower September 27th, 2006, 10:15 AM WTC NYC by far, The petronas are ugly, too messy.
I think those are my fav. Buildings ever, I cried when they collapsed back in 911, One of the worst days ever... :(
_zner_ October 1st, 2006, 10:38 AM petronas towers of course. breath-taking indeed!
Alweron October 1st, 2006, 05:49 PM Are some of you voting for WTC because u want to show ur sympathies for the 9/11 victims and their relatives?
And what does b/c mean anyway?
jacobboyer October 2nd, 2006, 05:35 AM No i voted for the world trade centers becasue they look better and look really bold.
ozscorpio7 October 3rd, 2006, 09:00 AM WTC twin towers , the first twins and they looked massive and impresive , strengt over beauty

This picture clinched it for me, simplicity works, they look so elegant, especially with that waterfront reflection. Absolutely stunning!
Question, am I the only Malaysian voting for the WTC??
FROM LOS ANGELES October 4th, 2006, 05:44 AM The Petronas symbolyze the awaking of Asia and 'skrapers, the twins symblolized eveything else..........9/11 never forget.

khoojyh November 17th, 2006, 10:54 PM kl2c for me.
choyak November 18th, 2006, 07:25 AM WTC. Where else could you stand up at the base and look up and be enraptured. ANYWHERE on the base (You can't even do this for Sears Tower). I have been blessed, I stood on the roof observation deck, I think 1996 (I should dig for the OLD 8 MM tape and youtube it). The lobbies were insanely impressive. I thought WOW look at this open space and there are more than 100 floors above that!!! Petronas is absolutely beautiful also. The only weird looking thing is the sky bridge. I have never actually seen Petronas except in pictures, but the shape is cool. In KL I do like TeleKom Malaysia that is one real beautiful building! I vote WTC but it is close!!!
At least there exists still Minoru Yamasaki's twin towers, Century City in LA! They are only 44 floors though (and triangular)
Erebus555 November 18th, 2006, 02:15 PM I decided over architecture and construction. As a result, I chose Petronas. Architecturally, WTC is not original and the box method was being used all the way back in the stone age.Construction-wise, great achievement for its time but didn't Sears do something just as impressive?
Petronas is a beauty, so much detail in it and construction-wise, a real feat for modern times because it was so difficult to get the bridge to be on the tower in such a high winds and the stress put on the towers and bridge was such a problem.
xiaoluis November 18th, 2006, 02:23 PM Cesar pelli!! Cesar Pelli!!! go go go

MaLaYSia aNd KoREa!! December 1st, 2006, 09:54 AM Petronas Twin Towers-for the ultra-modern design...
TalB December 5th, 2006, 12:55 AM Since boxy buildings like the Twins do not change around the top, they can look like they are going on forever from the ground up.

great184 December 6th, 2006, 06:43 PM Both are iconic towers, but ill give the vote for Petronas for its superior aesthetics.

la bestia kuit December 7th, 2006, 03:58 PM petronas nicest and tallest!!! :)
the WTC was nice and tall, but it was a huege steel box

OshHisham December 9th, 2006, 12:04 PM i love both then and forever
will.exe December 10th, 2006, 05:00 PM This thread is biased because many people are emotionally attached to the WTC. Having said that I vote for WTC because it is much simpler and concrete than the Petronas which seem to flashy and picture perfect. WTC is more imposing.

saladin1970 December 10th, 2006, 10:35 PM The Petronas.
The wtc were just two ugly square rectangles. The petronas are much more beautiful and innovative
Alle December 10th, 2006, 10:47 PM I accidentaly voted for WTC, anyhow i meant to vote for Petronas, one of my favorite skyscrapers in the world. WTC really adds to density in another way though.
TalB December 13th, 2006, 02:50 AM This thread is biased because many people are emotionally attached to the WTC. Having said that I vote for WTC because it is much simpler and concrete than the Petronas which seem to flashy and picture perfect. WTC is more imposing.

greyconcrete December 14th, 2006, 12:09 AM The Petronas Towers to me are just far more interesting than WTC. One of my favourite skyscrapers in the world
MDguy December 17th, 2006, 01:53 AM The WTC just seemed much more iconic then the Petronas towers. I think they are both amazing though.

http://img107.imageshack.us/img107/7246/cidgreen064165rb1.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
redbaron_012 February 17th, 2007, 03:59 AM If you could see WTC and Petronas Towers side by side the scale would look similar to comparing the Empire State and the Chrysler Blds....Both have their merits...but the WTC was by far the most dynamic, tallest, largest, comlplex ever.....when I say tallest..at the WTC roof level name any other building now or ever with an area equal to its footprint???? can't can you ! I voted WTC!
poshbakerloo February 17th, 2007, 10:24 AM WTC they are so tall and slender...
gladisimo February 18th, 2007, 12:44 AM It's nearly tied. I like the WTC more. The petronas close up look modern and shiny, but many distance shots make it look old and archaic, kind of like beefed up steeples or something. The shape doesn't scream future or modern. The WTC shape doesn't accomplish that either, but its simplicity has a more modern feel to it. Plus they have a much greater feel of power. They are so imposing.
Jules February 18th, 2007, 05:20 AM WTC. Never been a fan of Petronas.
TYW February 19th, 2007, 09:58 AM Petronas Twin Towers!!
i have no problem with people liking the WTC better but giving reasons like cheating for height and originality is plain shallow:ohno:
weirdo February 19th, 2007, 05:41 PM petronas. but i like the boxy wtc too.
Zaki February 21st, 2007, 05:38 AM I like petronas more. The buildings both modern and traditional at the same time as it incorporates modern, islamic, and south east asian architecture into its design. Also the towers are just breath taking to look at. Only thing noticeable about the world trade centers for me was how big they were. But then now days, thats not such a special thing.
Pablo February 21st, 2007, 08:16 AM WTC is too boxy for me;)
skyscraperboy February 23rd, 2007, 09:24 PM Of course Petronas Twin Towers!!!
The design of PTT symbolise fair and order. Thats make me love about PTT.

Rizzato February 24th, 2007, 06:07 AM thats one of the nicest pictures Ive seen of the 'tronas.
nice!
Frankiec February 24th, 2007, 06:49 AM Are some of you voting for WTC because u want to show ur sympathies for the 9/11 victims and their relatives?
And what does b/c mean anyway?
Maybe as many people are voting for the WTC (out of sympathy) as others are voting for Petronas Towers (out of anti-Americanism)?
(b/c means because.)
I voted for the WTC because I like the simple, classy, modernism of the rectangular buildings.
I don't like the crosswalk (or whatever it's called) of the Petronas Towers. I think it looks stupid. Among other things...
doria February 25th, 2007, 02:30 PM WTC! those tower, although simple architecture, will always be a mark.
Sagaris February 26th, 2007, 09:40 AM I dont like ugly boxes. Petronas are very nice.
Poryaa February 26th, 2007, 10:20 AM I prefer rectangular buildings. They look most urbanized.
doria February 28th, 2007, 11:59 PM Petronas is a very confuse building
MDguy March 1st, 2007, 12:17 AM I dont like ugly boxes
Well, then you should have no problem liking the WTC because they were beautiful boxes :D
FastFerrari March 4th, 2007, 03:29 AM My reasons are ...Sheer size of the towers....110 stories...1353ft....can see 45 miles on any side on clear days....208 or 63meters on each side...and remember this is in 1973 ! !....over 13 million sq ft....Held world tallest building not because of spires! !....but for sheer height! !
Imperfect Ending March 4th, 2007, 05:01 AM Petronas. Because I don't like ugly buildings
Dudly March 6th, 2007, 04:27 AM I've never seen the Petronas in person so it's hard to compare. But the WTC were unbelievable
redspork02 March 6th, 2007, 04:31 PM WTC
They (use to) fit with the background scenery the best.
The Petronas for its Architecture.
So i like the 1st reason the best so WTC
TalB March 7th, 2007, 01:02 AM If the Petronas Towers are really bigger than the Twins, then why would a person on the highest floor of either of the Twins be looking down at the person at the highest floor of either of the Petronas Towers?
FastFerrari March 7th, 2007, 03:16 AM http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/2083/twintowersae4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
How many picturesque views are there?......A lot more.
rembau1958 March 7th, 2007, 12:33 PM ^^Cities (and buildings) sited by a large body of water (sea, lake, large river) tend to have that extra "oomph" compared with cities sited inland far away from any such body of water.
suzan March 7th, 2007, 12:36 PM Petronas to me.
They're unbeliavable!!!!!!! I went to KL and those towers, I can tell you, are the most amazing thing I've seen!
http://www.arrakeen.ch/malaysiafeb02/466%20%20Petronas%20Towers.JPG
jogiba March 8th, 2007, 12:37 AM I first seen the WTC under construction in 1969 at about 4am at night and the north tower was up about 30 floors and it was all full of lights and looked massive. I would stop there about every few months until it was topped off in the early 70's. The lobby of the WTC was about ten stories high and was fantastic compared to the Sears Tower that I visited in 1977 that was like walking into any generic office building. The indoor and outdoor observation deck of the WTC was huge and the indoor one was about four times the size of the Sears Tower's indoor observation deck. BTW my sister had her wedding reception at Windows on the World at the top of the north tower in the early 80's.
I like the Petronas Towers but I have too much of my life attached to the WTC to not vote for them.
Mahratta March 8th, 2007, 12:51 AM Petronas, since they actually look GOOD, the WTC were ugly boxes...incredibly bland and boring. Dull grey rectangles.
MDguy March 8th, 2007, 01:18 AM Uhmmm. Bad taste. A lot of people died there... let's let it rest, ok? I vividly remember visiting WTC on many occasions and I remember the day it blew up and I just don't feel like putting it through a beauty pageant. Bad karma all 'round.
I agree. mabey this thread shouldn't have been made. it makes me feel bad when people call the WTC ugly boxes :(
W!CKED March 8th, 2007, 04:25 AM Definitly WTC.
Zaki March 8th, 2007, 05:33 AM I agree. mabey this thread shouldn't have been made. it makes me feel bad when people call the WTC ugly boxes :(
why? The buildings are what they are. If someone was hating on the people who died there, ofcourse, that would be a different story. But the buildings, they are what they and buildings get destroyed in attacks all the time.
MDguy March 8th, 2007, 05:58 AM forget i said anything, sorry
FastFerrari April 8th, 2007, 10:11 PM Still WTC all day....how many beautiful views of the dull-gray, bland boxes are there....according to Google over 250,000

Imperfect Ending April 8th, 2007, 10:40 PM I agree. mabey this thread shouldn't have been made. it makes me feel bad when people call the WTC ugly boxes :(
A lot of people died in the gas chambers too but I wouldn't call the gas chambers beautiful
MDguy April 9th, 2007, 03:09 AM okay, sorry :(. just forget i said anything
triple-j April 9th, 2007, 10:47 PM i do really hope this thread is closed or at least the poll is. Each of the building represents their unique value to the country they stand (or stood) on.
WTC for example is everything about New York and US as a whole. It represented US economy, capitalism, wealth, prosper nation. PETRONAS towers signifies the emergent of new nation, young nation in this world. It sorts of saying that Malaysia is now ready for the world.
It doesn't feel right to compare them with one of them is not there anymore although the initial purpose of this polls i believe just how people favour their twin towers. Now with WTC carry with it thousands of lives with it, this thing could get a bit emotional.
WTC indeed pave way for PETRONAS twin towers. Now with WTC is gone, PETRONAS is the twin towers for our generation today. WTC is remembered always. God bless the people who died together with the WTC....
Mascalzone April 9th, 2007, 10:55 PM I voted for WTC. The first, the true supertall twins and the most impressive towers I've ever seen.
Damn.

its ok to argue...its the point of this forum,as long as there are not insulting ,not touch sensitivity issue and still on topic, dont be too sensitive and emotional
wan11 December 3rd, 2011, 09:12 PM I voted for Petronas Tower for its beautiful architecture. WTC is is too plain and boring and quite ugly actually but that's my opinion. It's not what I call elegant and good simplicity.
Manneken3000 December 6th, 2011, 11:05 AM i cant believe petronas twin tower was build on 1995',its look so 2020'
I don't think so, it looks so 1995.
I still think that one part of on tower should have been a hotel, imagine with a suite on a full top floor, and a sky bar lounge.
Azrain98 December 6th, 2011, 11:20 AM LOL , I choose Petronas course like beautiful everyday...WTC like classic & ugly..in night this city looks not bright..

No1_Saint December 13th, 2011, 12:39 PM You have to witness the Petronas towers up close to really appreciate the wonderful design. They are amazingly light during the day and at night when lit up are just like crystal. And the double sided view from the sky bridge is breath taking. In fact when I visited there once I was inspired to visit a beautiful mosque that I saw off in the distance.

Student4life December 14th, 2011, 12:38 PM Petronas for me .

But architecturally , Petronas . Simply stunning and at night .... WOW !

Rev Stickleback December 15th, 2011, 12:18 PM I think the WTC is an example of something being popular for being so iconic. They made the lower Manhattan skyline for many, and to that extent probably weren't viewed in isolation, but as their part of thewhole picture.
guy4versa December 21st, 2011, 06:47 AM I think the WTC is an example of something being popular for being so iconic. They made the lower Manhattan skyline for many, and to that extent probably weren't viewed in isolation, but as their part of thewhole picture.
I think the WTC is an example of something being popular for being the first tallest building(i dont call box as iconic) ,while petronas is actually a symbol of iconic skyscraper..but both nice! masterpiece for its own decade, this is seven wonder of the world in skyscraper
2000-2009=burj khalifa
1990-1999=petronas twin tower
1980-1989=wilis tower
1970-1979=world trade centre
1960-1969=John Hancock Center
1930-1959=empire state building,chrysler
Rev Stickleback December 21st, 2011, 06:34 PM I think the WTC is an example of something being popular for being the first tallest building(i dont call box as iconic)
I'd disagree. A building doesn't have to be visually stunning to be an icon.
After all, when the New York skyline was viewed after the twin towers were gone, it was noticeable how few of the other buildings remaining were recognisable.
In isolation they were just big and boxy, albeit with on an impressive scale, but the rest of the skyline and the towers complemented each other.
The lack of a skyline around the Petronas Towers, among other things, stops them having anywhere near the profile.
guy4versa December 21st, 2011, 06:44 PM In isolation they were just big and boxy, albeit with on an impressive scale, but the rest of the skyline and the towers complemented each other.
impressive scale is actually height of the building, that what im talking about, being the tallest in Manhattan make it more appears, just imagine this tower only 30floor?its not iconic at all.and no one will notice it
RaySthlm December 21st, 2011, 08:18 PM WTC were more recognisable and iconic. Petronas look more modern, more beautiful.
azzi282 December 21st, 2011, 09:33 PM Petronas for me. Simply bcos it's not two boxes placed next to each other. The detail of work on the petronases intrigues me.
Sarcasticity December 22nd, 2011, 05:37 AM The Petronas Towers are more aesthetically pleasing than the WTC ever were. However, what the WTC had over the Petronas Towers was, despite the height and prominent showing on the skyline, the twin towers somehow complemented the surrounding skyscrapers and made the downtown skyline whole.
briker December 22nd, 2011, 06:52 AM Petronas are simply stunning/
Annaezett December 22nd, 2011, 07:17 AM Petronas tower simply the best in the world. Its beautiful and twin :)... Icon of the modern building in the world.
Annaezett December 22nd, 2011, 07:43 AM WTC vs burj of khalifah. I think all american will still vote for WTC. Annoying patriotism.
CxIxMaN December 22nd, 2011, 07:50 AM Petronas Twin Towers is a major landmark and icon for Kuala Lumpur. Without PTT Kuala Lumpur would look like another plain city with several highrises.
sichibukai December 22nd, 2011, 08:35 AM PETRONAS, Simply the best :okay:
Sarcasticity December 22nd, 2011, 04:42 PM WTC vs burj of khalifah. I think all american will still vote for WTC. Annoying patriotism.
But same can be said for Malaysians with Petronas vs anything else. Or any nationality for that matter. This is SSC. Pride is high in this forum.
Rev Stickleback December 23rd, 2011, 11:54 AM impressive scale is actually height of the building, that what im talking about, being the tallest in Manhattan make it more appears, just imagine this tower only 30floor?its not iconic at all.and no one will notice it
So if they weren't built to be so impressive then they wouldn't have been so impressive?
Can't really argue with the logic there, but it's a bit like saying if Susan Boyle was attractive, she'd be a stunner. It doesn't deal with reality.
The thing with the twin towers is they had the whole lower manhattan skyline as part of their look, rather than just being viewed individually, and it was how they fitted within that that made them iconic.
The Petronas Towers never had anything like that, and outside of Malaysia at least, they don't seem to have acquired anywhere near the status.
UjaiDidida December 23rd, 2011, 05:04 PM Petronas Towers win for architecture and design. WTC for history.
