A Luxury 5 star hotel to be run Legacy Hotels and Resorts International, is to be built on the Palm Boulevard, opposite Gateway.

The hotel, sister to the Michelangelo Hotel on Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton, will have 95 rooms, 42 residential units and 2500m2 of Boutique shops. Plus Conference rooms and an outside piazza for alfresco dining.

A syndicate led by Majeed Dawood is developing the hotel.

This will be the third hotel to be built opposite Gateway, following the 170 bed City Lodge, and recently announced 120 suite Royal Palm.

mike what ever happened to the triagular piece of land as you come off the freeway in the old umhlunga on your left. I was involved in the origional proposal to build a best western about 10 years ago on that site

Personally i can see aspects of the Michelangelo Hotel in the design.

Well that land is presently u/c with a massive "Grace Family Church". It will be competing in size with the Jesus Dome on the Berea. Will take 3000 people.

yip take the off ramp and turn left to go up the hill to thge new town centre and right to cross the freeway and head down to the old town

yip, thats the new church. some of the land is being left aside for the expansion of the roads which starts in jan/feb 2006. The bridge over the freeway is being increased from 3 to 6 lanes, and the entry roads into umhlanga village are being realined and new traffic circle is being developed...the Pearls retail section will partially front this circle, the other part will be another new dev.

It is a new 5 star hotel, to be dev in the present open space and road space area. when the road is realined, alot of space will open up. The hotel will be +-15F and is being developed by Vivian Reddy.

This dev has a new rendering out...will put it up soon...looks very good

Connected with 8 or 9 architectural firms...so i can also see the new things that are still to come out :) Some gorgeous dev's coming to umhlanga!!

Also...Have u noticed how many of the dev's on Palm Boulevard are designed by EPA??

Durbsboi.....do u have any idea on the split between apartments and hotel rooms in this one? how many apartments and how many hotel rooms? Also do u know when they planning to open? i presume before this december....2006?

I still havent recived the new plans, but that pool layout has deff changed. mush lager pool with larger deck.

i hear this is the 3rd largest development on the Champanile piazza at 24 000m2, just smaller than Royal Palm at 25 600m2 and the mammoth PalmGate.

paper the other day did a profile on the piazza buildings and said this one is to be completed only by april next year...that correct? also they finished playing with the design now?

yeh they finished up to level 7,just the roof to design now...........hopefully.
EPA is busy moving this weekend so hopefully by monday the new drawings will be in,

It is now to be a Protea Pride hotel and not legacy, therefore protea are getting a foot in the ridge

Yeh I saw the article in the property section on the Tribune.

this one is nearly complete now, and is the final block to go up on the palm boulevard, now ending construction in that area at last!

I must say they taking awfully long with this one, can imagine the project manager is shitting on everyone as usual, hence the reason we left.
