As I said in the Lab Building construction thread, I am also opening a U of R picture thread because after I took some construction pictures I walked around and took some more.

So without further delays here are some pictures.

The new res towers completed in 2004 I think:

UGLY heating building:

The new Kinesiology building (cost around 33 Million):
On the left is the Education Building, on the right is the old Kinesiology Building(White buidling behind the new looking offices), and above are the tops of the Residential Towers.

The main Library (there are 4 on Campus):

And time for the last 2 buildings I took pictures of today... and they also happen to be my 2 favourite :D

An engineering building(don't ask me what it is specifically for)

And the SIFC(Saskatchewan Indian Federated College)/FNUC (First Nations University of Canada). It's called both names.

And yes, some buildings (library for example) are OLD... most likey built in the 70s.

nice quaint little campus.. but it seems quite suburban style to me.. i've never been to the university of regina but is it actually suburban? I attend the University of Toronto: St. George Campus rite now and i'm amazed at the many different architectural styles/decades represented there... the old and the new are soo amazing.. its just some 70s style buildings that are not up to par... and the ROBART's Library.. *shudders* Giant Turkey...

lol so could you please tell me a little more about UR? how many students on campus? how many students commute? etc?
and is it just me or why do the new residential buildings look like grain elevators?

No they don't look like grain elevators at all... pretty much every town in Saskatchewan has one, and the elevators looks like this:

The Campus is on the outer edge of the city... The area around the university is mainly apartments. There are some residential areas(suburban style), but not all that much in that area. The university also backs onto the Wascana Park System (2nd largest urban park in North America).

There are a little over 10,000 students at the University I think, and most of them drive to campus (city buses are also currently on strike).

About the University... It used to be a satallite Campus of the U of S. It was the U of S Regina Campus. And I think it only became its own University in the 70s. There are also a few more University Buildings elsewhere in the city, but they aren't the main buildings so I'll just ignore them for the purpose of simplicity.

The U of R is supposed to have one of the best Education Programs in the country. And there is also the English as a Second Language Program, so we have MANY asian students here.

Some Satallite Images (old... from google earth)

Overview of the city and where the University Campus is:

Overview of the Campus Area... (SIAST=Saskatchewan Institute of Applied Science and Technology)

And the Campus itself:

Map key:

Engineering (little yellow box, is the emergency energy building - can supply power to most of the University for 72 hours if needed)
Ridell Centre (Student Union/Co-op program/main food court/arts departments/some administration offices)
College West (Math/Stats Department, the book store, classrooms, and some resident dorms)
Current Lab Building (The square titled lab, is what is under construction now. There is a thread about it in this section.
Classroom Building (Lecture Theatres, Classrooms, Astronomy Telescope, and some more administration offices)
Main Library
Ad/Hum(Administration and Humanities Buidling (School of Journalism, Administration offices, and classrooms)
Language Institute (ESL program, Language Classrooms (French, German, Spanish, etc.)
Old Gym (The new gym - already built - is within the green shape)
Education building (classrooms as well as Education and Engineering faculty offices)
Campion College (Classrooms, Administration, and offices)
Luther College (Classrooms, Offices, and Dorms)
The "Res" in the middle is where the Residential Towers/Buidlings are. Gallery of Construction pictures. (http://www.uregina.ca/campusgrowth/photogallery/residence/index.shtml) You can also browse images of other construction projects.

And then up in the right corner is the SIFC/FNUC building... the grounds are of course landscaped now.

Within the last few years there as you can see the campus has changed quite a bit... over $100 Million in new buildings (Kinesiology= $33 Mill, Lab= $31 Mill, Residential Buidlings= $38 Mill, I'm not sure how much the SIFC/FNUC building cost, but most likely over $20 Mill).

Any specific questions that I haven't somewhat covered?
