Did the renovation in 2000 change the external appearance of the tower or was it just an internal refurb?

CULWULLA September 23rd, 2005, 04:58 AM i reckon the greatest "bank" building in Australia is Sydney's Deutsche Bank Place! inside and out its an amAzing structure.

The tallest Bank bldg to 'roof" is Perths Bankwest. also one of my fav bank bldgs!

tayser September 23rd, 2005, 05:09 AM Melbourne 45m 1941 (ANZ Bank, 287 Collins St)
There's an NAB building which shares the same wall as this one. somewhere in the address range of 260-285 Collins Street (will be a multi-address as there was a Queensland bank there before NAB bought them up, demolished their building and expanded their premises).
edit: 270 Collins St, I'd say roughly the same height as the ANZ building, on left: (anyone got a better pic from the northern side of the street?)

edit x 2: ^ above it has 'The National Bank of Australasia' you have to be careful as ANZ and NAB had very similar names when they started.
I think Australasia is NAB and Australia is now ANZ (after it merged with E.S.& A.). someone correct me on that pls!
Oriolus September 23rd, 2005, 05:14 AM Standouts are the 2 Com banks on Martin Place,Sydney.

tayser September 25th, 2005, 09:22 AM Thanks tayser, I added a couple of those. Do St George have naming or signage rights on 333 Collins?
they do on the street, but it's pushing it really - they didn't 'build' the tower or pre-commit to it when it was constructed, ignore 333C!
DamienK September 25th, 2005, 09:24 AM Ah, Cuwulla, you picked such an old pic of BankWest, and not from one of my favourite angles too. Here's a better view, from the roof of AMP!

But this new one - wow!

Colonial Tower, 180 George St (CBA) 21floors/81m
101 George St (UC for CBA) 13 floors/45mDoes Colonial Tower have CBA signage? The photos on Emporis have "Colonial" signage. I'm mainly listing buildings where the bank has naming or signage rights. I decided not to list Suncorp or ABN Amro or companies like that, else the list would just get too long.

The top of the building does have Colonial signange (although Colonial is a division of Commonwealth Bank), but in the foyer has Commonwealth Bank signage.

If only the banks in Brisbane had only one tower for each bank, you'd probably end up with a couple of tall towers!!!
LA53R March 29th, 2006, 02:18 AM haha Bankwest Ownes them all, we need to learn from Perth ;) Love that tower :)
hayds May 19th, 2007, 11:48 AM This will be the mother scraper of banks in OZ for now...with st george bank putting themselves up onto Central Park.
http://www.globalhomeloans.com.au/static/images/logo_stgeorge.gif
Perths tallest office building will get a splash of neon colour next month following a deal signed last week with Central Park tenant St George Bank to take on the lucrative signage rights.
The bank will be the first company to have its name on the 52-level building.
Two five-metre tall neon signs will be erected, one on each of Central Parks south-east and north-west sides.
The signs would cost the bank more than $400,000 to have made and installed.
This is an opportunity to put St George Bank in a prominent position to increase our brand awareness. Its a great time to announce our long-term commitment to Perth and the broader market, Mr Barrett said.
Most recent deals have involved BankWest gaining signage rights to the proposed Raine Square office development, and KPMG for Bishops Sees South tower.
Austraarabian May 19th, 2007, 03:55 PM HULLO.... What about Citibank!!!!???
Sydney 242m. I think this is second best after Deustche Bank.

hayds May 20th, 2007, 12:14 PM HULLO.... What about Citibank!!!!???
Sydney 242m. I think this is second best after Deustche Bank.
central park is taller. 249m
LanceDriver May 21st, 2007, 02:02 AM ^ what bank is central park?
tbor May 21st, 2007, 03:59 AM Well, its supposed to be getting St George signing... is that enough to make it a bank tower?
CULWULLA May 21st, 2007, 04:41 AM ^no. signage means jack. theres many bldg who seel off the rooftop fo advertising rights to who ever wants it.
how many levels do st george bank occupy in Central Park? i thought it was built as an office bldg to house many tennants?
Sydneys Citigroup (243m) was built to house Citigroup.
Signage doesnt nessasarilly mean its a bank building. Lots of bldg have di air rights on top of bldg.
LanceDriver May 21st, 2007, 04:51 AM i suppose if st george end up being a major tenant then it would count wouldn't it? but is that the case here or is it just advertising?
Neonxian May 21st, 2007, 05:01 AM St George have a public outlet on the ground floor of Central Park. I'm not sure if they have any actual space in the building.
alvse May 21st, 2007, 05:24 AM St George occupies the 11th floor, and some of the 12th floor. They also have a subsidary (Asgard Wealth Solutions) that occupies floors 37 - 41.
I'm guessing they would occupy more of the building if there was space for them.
LanceDriver May 21st, 2007, 06:06 AM ahh, yes, asgard, i forgot st george own them (although asgard don't like to acknowledge their parents). so would this then be the highest bank occupied building in aus? does it count?
funny how in perth st george is in the tallest building and the head office in sydney is in a 4-5 storey campus building in kogarah (14kms sth of cbd), and it isn't even a business hub! there's no other corporations in the area and the only other big employer is the st george hostpital and a few medical centres. in saying this, the building is massive and holds 2000-3000 employees and it helps hold the banks link to "st george". kogarah would go into a recession if st george left.
st george hq in kogarah (australia's 5th largest retail bank)

Tyson May 21st, 2007, 06:40 AM The Citigroup Centre in Sydney is half owned my Macquarie and half by GPT. Citibank lease a bit under half the available space with the rest taken up by Gilbert + Tobin, Spamil, and RBC, amongst others.
I would call it a bank tower if they were a major tennant of the building. So I'm not sure if that includes Central Park or not.
If you include any building with only a minority of space leased to a bank then there would be a whole stack of buildings. 101 Collins, 530 Collins, 333 Collins, 120 Collins, 565 Collins, 420 St Kilda Road, 200 Kings Way, and more, just in Melbourne alone. In Sydney you could add Grosvenor Place, 400 George, BT Tower, 60 Martin Place, 255 Elizabeth, 60 Market, and more...
If you were to go by "bank occupied" then I think 120 Collins would be the highest at 264m.
alvse May 21st, 2007, 06:51 AM Rio Tinto / Hamersly Iron & BHP Billiton occupy just under 50% of Central Park, with St Georges (including Asgard) having only around 10%.... I to be fair, I wouldn't call it a bank building, more.... a mining building
here is a tenants list;
http://www.central-park.com.au/Public/Contact/TenantContacts.asp?View=P
Ari Gold May 21st, 2007, 06:58 AM Well, its supposed to be getting St George signing... is that enough to make it a bank tower?
No. Central Park is still going to be Central Park with big lights at the top.
If Central Park was renamed St Georges Bank Tower or something, then we can talk.
hayds May 21st, 2007, 12:45 PM this thread just said bank scrapers...basically scrapers with bank signage on from what i thought? St George bank occupy central Park, will have their signage on the tower...you do the math.
CULWULLA May 21st, 2007, 01:02 PM maybe we should have a thread- highest signs in Australia? lol
Brendan May 21st, 2007, 01:09 PM maybe we should have a thread- highest signs in Australia? lol
That's actually not a bad idea.
Qantas743 May 21st, 2007, 01:13 PM I read this in the Guiness Book of Records a while ago so it may of changed but according to the book, the highest sign in Australia is the BHP logo on Bourke Place in Melbourne.

Austraarabian May 25th, 2007, 03:25 PM Here is an interesting article about banks from NSW govt. has a graph below for all the banks in OZ cities.
Australian and Foreign-owned Banks - Australian Cities 2006
In July 2006, banks in Australia held local assets of A$1.5 trillion.
Of the 54 authorised deposit-taking banks with operations in Australia, 44 are based in Sydney. This includes nine of the 11 foreign subsidiary banks in Australia and all of the 29 local branches of foreign banks. Major authorised foreign banks in Sydney include Citigroup, UBS Australia, Mizuho Corporate Bank, HSBC Bank Australia and Deutsche Bank. Other global banks have established highly successful back office operations in Sydney. Of the top 20 global banks, 17 have operations in Sydney.
The 2005 Australian Financial Markets Report, published by the Australian Financial Markets Association, demonstrates the considerable depth and sophistication of Australias financial markets. The report found that in 2005-06, total turnover across all of Australias financial markets reached A$100 trillion, a 21.6% increase on the previous year. Turnover on the over-the-counter financial markets rose by 23.2% to A$72 trillion while exchange traded markets (equities and futures) jumped by 17.9% to A$29 trillion. This continued strong growth reinforces Australias status as a global financial services centre, with Sydney as the epicentre.
