In Asia, BKK Airport ranks 2nd!, faaaaaaaaaaaaaar behind Tokyo..

if there weren't Tsunami, and deep southern provinces problems, we'd probably make it higher!

Sorry boy, but we're counting on the total passenger numbers. Not international flights traffic. Of-course, Singapore and Hong Kong would mostly have international traffic because the nations are .. a little bit .. little in size.

But......I guess Beijing or Shianghai airport will take the second or even the first place in the near future. I notice everyyear the increasing percentage of the chinese's airport number of pessengers are always larger than ours. :)

I'm wondering....
If the airport first phrase is supposed to be capable for 45 millions of pessengers.
How long will the total number of pessenger surpass 45 millions? I think not so long, if the percent rising keep its 25% like the latest year?
Do they have plan for that?
Or just build more run-way? That's it?

That's a good point Khun Ten, How can we reach or even surpass other cities if our new airport's capacity is only 45 million in the first phase and what about the following problems like traffic jam around that area and etc.

Some information about the projection of vistor to Thailand

Thailand Projects 10.7 Million Visitors For 2002

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thailand is projecting total visitor arrivals of 10.7 million in 2002, a growth of 6% over 2001, well above the targeted growth of 4%. Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Mrs Juthamas Siriwan said the projection was based on total arrivals of 8.75 million in January-October 2002, an increase of 7.22% over the same period of 2001. Strong growth has continued in both November and December, final figures for both those months have not yet been finalised. "In 2001, we had conservatively forecast a growth of 4% for 2002, which would have given us arrivals of 10.5 million for the whole year. However, the real growth has been higher than forecast, and we can safely project to close 2002 with about 10.7 million arrivals," she said.

The total arrivals target for 2003 is 11.13 million, which will be an approximate six per cent increase over 2002. Earnings are projected at 360,600 million baht, up 11.5% over 2002. Domestic visitors in 2002 are projected at 63.07 million, up 2.5%, with earnings of 323,000 million baht, up an estimated 4.87%. On each of the markets, Mrs Juthamas offered the following performance analysis, based on the figures tabulated so far:

And TAT projection to 2006

The arrivals targets for 2006 are 15.12 million international visitors and 79.33 million domestic trips, with those sectors generating estimated tourism revenues of 533 billion baht (12.7 billion in U.S. dollars) and 380 billion baht (9 billion in U.S. dollars) respectively.

Hence,

45 million capacity of handling by T1 would be fair enough if it is consistency by 7 % growth annually and so, it will not be as a problem obviously in running over of its operation within 10 years :)

Yes, I'll bet you that Thai Airways makes brand new large modern-Thai decor First Class and Business Royal Silk Class lounges at the new Suvarnaphum airport next year.....which will even be better than the "The Pier" and "The Wing" lounges of Cathay Pacific at Hong Kong airport!! then the world rankings for airline lounges will change for sure! (especially if TG makes a cool Chinese or Thai noodle and dim sum bar like the one at the Cathay Pacific lounges and keeps having free Thai back/shoulder and foot massages) :)

There is one factor that driven Bangkok ahead of Singapore, a hugh one. Is the Domestic movement. If considering only International passenger volume, If I'm not mistaken Bangkok is well behind HK, SG, Narita and Incheon.

U got a point there, but they also have a lot better international connections with the low fare airlines. If I want to fly inexpensively Bkk - Manila for example I'd probably go via Singapore :dunno:

I think comparing to NYJFK is not big deal, it is struck on 35-40 million mark for past decade or so, this is due to 3 other airports in New York Area, if you combine their number of passengers than you get real number which is about 110 million passengers...

But saying this, I think it is great news for Bangkok Airport, I think it is major airport in SEA, and probably biggest in SEA...
Great stuff,

IMO, both good and bad developments are taking place under his administration...

some of the things his govt does are good while some other policies aren't that good...

mixed feeling about him in Thailand in general

As I have known...
BKK airport has the biggest number of airlines flying through in Asia.
I wonder why our inter. passenger could be that little comparing
to others airports?
Doesn't number of pessenger depends on number of airlines?
.....ummmmm just wondering :)

Thanks Zoowatch, but when youre outside of Thailand, youre going to think that he has done great things... I mean its in his administration that tourism has become a major industry and more investors flocked in... The Philippines peso and baht b4 his administration is almost equal 40 to a USD. Now our peso depreciates to as low as 56 Php while yours stuck up to 40s. :)

However, we still NOT satisfied what the Leader along with hiS Cronies & Eunuches
are DOING right now .... They could wreck havoc on Thai Tourism to please theri own vested (weasted) interests just like Macos and Soehato have done .... After all, the leader want to be the 1st president of Thailand.
