Melbourne Australia's old central city shot tower is now now encased in a multi-storey central city shopping plaza and skyscraper complex, under a dome...
sorry, forget the originator of this pic: edit in later

The tallest shot tower in the world is in the Melbourne suburb of Clifton Hill. This beautiful brick structure was built in 1882 and is 80 metres high or 263 feet:

Coops shot tower is probably the most famous shot tower in the world and is located in the heart of the Melbourne CBD. It was completed in 1890- and is 50 metres high. The historic building was saved demolition in 1973 and was incorporated into the massive Melbourne Central complex in 1991 underneath an 84m high Glass dome:

Taroona Shot Tower (Tasmania) - once Australia's tallest structure!

http://www.australienbilder.de/serien/bilder/tas15.jpg

Ive studied the Taroona Shot tower in depth and keep in contact with museum owner at its base, after i sent her some diagrams for schoolies. I told them years ago there official height of 48m was wrong even though there own brochure indicated this.also history books have confsuing heights of 45m, 48m and 60m and even 66m.
So got the bloody thing surveyed!! The current height without 1.3m weather ball is 58.7m.!!So it was exactly 60m or 196ft up until 1920's.
It was Australia's tallest structure from 1870-74, it was surpassed by the 64m spire of melbournes Scots Church.
