Well, after 6 or 7 different galleries showing the various unique areas of Windsor, I have finally made it to downtown without any problems! I took all these photos in July 2005 of purely downtown and some riverfront, and some of the Ambassador Bridge. I hope to take more of these next weekend, when I come back to Windsor (and Detroit) again! :)

I stayed in the casino overnight, and got these two shots of downtown...

great photo tour jaybird... when i look at the chrysler building and think what could have been there i want to cry... Its a beautiful building, but it would have been spectacular if it was taller, THE DESIGN WANTS IT TO BE TALLER!!! lol anyways great shots and questions... in the first shot, the site under excavation is a second casino correct? any renderings?

^ you're not the only one who would want to "cry", snoopy, it supposed to be like a 34 storey tower, and that would have been amazing, Windsor could have had the third BEST skyline in Ontario, I think. It is a nice building, though, but it's a BOX compared to its original design.

In the first shot, yes indeed, that old lot is gonna be part of the casino's massive expansion a new hotel, convention centre and new 5,000 seat entertainment centre, which is something I am looking forward to. Now I can see big name entertainment in Windsor, when it gets built. Be very similar events to Casino Rama in Rama, near Orillia.

Very nice. You guys must have a big budget on gardening each year.

You guys should see big business in convention events once the Convention centre is complete. Seems like Windsor has plenty of hotels to support convention activities.

^It does have lots of hotels and they're all struggling right now because of the high Canadian dollar and the lingering effects of 9/11. That convention centre will be a huge boost. The 5000 theatre is badly needed too since the current arena is incapable of hosting large events.

Good job Jaybird, you sure covered a lot of ground in one day.

whoa, this building is awesome. Who said brutalist buildings are ugly?

Heh, funny how people react different ways to architecture...that's actually my most hated Windsor building. Tear that schitt down!

Downtown Windsor does have lots of potential and some of it has been met since ten years ago... that building kind of reminds me of either the Library or Hamilton Place Theatre in Hamilton and kind of looks like an apartment building you'll find in Hamilton as well.

Thanks to all for the comments on my phototour!

Oh yeah, and for any of guys interested in Detroit DOWNTOWN or Skyline (across the river) photos (as they really don't belong in the Ontario forum here), look no farther than these two posts in the Midwest Forum:

Great pics, thanks.
Ya, I think the above building was cool as well.
Is Oulette still the main shopping drag?

Blitz
October 2nd, 2005, 08:57 PM
^ It's the main drag for everything. Ouellette Avenue will undergo a $3M makeover next year (new streetscaping, lights, sidewalks, trees, etc.) It's going to make getting around downtown a challenge.

Here's a rendering of the new casino hotel. Supposed to be 23 floors, 100,000 sq.ft. convention centre, and a 5000 seat theatre.

By the rendering up there, It looks like the new hotel tower will be a bit shorter than the original hotel tower, but should still be awesome. I don't know if this entertainment centre will be an arena or just an entertainment centre, like Casino Rama's. Probably not, because I don't think the Windsor Spitfires and Casino Windsor are on the same page here.

Thanks for all the comments, all! Again.

Blitz

It's not going to be an arena, just a theatre (similar to Rama). I went to the Spits game today and the arena is holding up well for being nearly 80 years old.

I got some more pictures of a few places I could include and add up to my later Windsor collection for Trillium Photography. I took all these last Sunday. These are kind of "WILD CARD" shots.

^Jaybird and I are going to update the Windsor gallery at Trillium simultaneously in a few weeks or so. I've been taking new pics of downtown during the past couple months whenever I'm down there.
