This is a rendering of a proposal by Danish architect Bo Larsen. Its the redevelopment of the town center of Icelandic town Selfoss which has about 5.000 inhabitants. Its a proposal of two buildings that are 5 storeys high and two towers 16 storeys high that will completely change the image of the town. Local officials say that construction could start next year if it goes through.

It would be even weird if they would be shining like this:

It sure looks like this town needs some central towers. Hope, they will build it. And hope - one day I would see it ;)

For what use are these towers being built? Are they going to accommodate the hole population of the town?(village)

Beautiful design, fits well into arctic atmosphare. Would be a very intersting project, with such huge buildings in such a small town.

The developer is a local guy that has lobbied for big scale development since the seventies. He bought some underused lots in the centre of the town and has for some years been working on proposals. These are not the first he has put out, but appear to be the most ambitious to date.

Its questionable whether there's market for such a development. The town has been booming as pendling is becoming a fact for Reykjavik metro area, with more families buying houses in 50min driving distance from the city. There will, without question, be people opposed to these plans, as they will alter the image the town has today, as a tranquil aggricultural centre in southern Iceland. Last year there was a community planning weekend in the town that called for more urban plans for the centre, with lowrise, urban village feeling in them. But in the end its all about money and politics, right?

I like the design of the towers, it looks like they are made of ice (atleast in the rendering, let's see how it will work in reality). I say build! :)

Btw - is it just me or do the towers look like short versions of the proposed scrapers surrounding Freedom Tower in NYC? :D

Iceland got a beatiful nature. And by building higher buildings people dont have to live on a bigger area. Leaving more nature alone. In that way, its good for Iceland to build higher :D.
