Wow you sure have gone out of your way to prove to us how unsafe Vancouver is. I think I'm just going to stay inside from now on.

You are safe dude from scammers who find Vancouver a safe haven; they won't bother micky mices unless their cash go to crystalmeth labs, grow-ops (some say there were 20,000 growop houses here), gang activities.

Vancouver definitely has a serious problem of South Asian Gangs, and it's not going to be easy to tackle, especially given the racial/ethnic element that exists in such a sensitive issue.

Crime activity is a common pattern among the major port cities of the world. Take a look at Sydney, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Miami......

I don't know how you got HK on your list but HK's crime rate is wayyyyyyy lower than Vancouver's and it is safer than Tokyo and as safe as Singapore.

Statistically, Vancouver's crime rate is 9 times higher than HK's.

I don't think that growops are the problem, the law is the problem, if it was legal do you think that it would be as lucrative for organized crime as a revenue source?

Well if you are the number one city in the world. You are certainly going to attract people from all walks of life!

^ Yeah like all those street kids from Ontario and Quebec. Our downtown is littered with them, comming to BC for the milder winters.

True That^

I've heard that something like 90% of the people littering the downtown eastside come from either up north or back east. Hence, our drug problem is Canada's problem, Vancouver is the one left to deal with it!

Nice to see three Canadian cities in the top ten!

When you get to the top ten or so it really doesn't make a huge amount of difference. The differences in scorings at that point are very small.
Interesting to see Calgary moving so far up the scale.
I think they should be viewed as a general guide.
Vancouver has the most spectacular setting but probably the most uninspiring archetecture.
Many prefer good transit systems over others.
Calgary wins for being the cleanist city, infact of over 300 cities surveyed in another rating Calgary was considered the cleanist on the planet.
Toronto doesn't have Vancouver's beautiful situation but is also a much more dynamic city for the arts/culture and has a crime rate MUCH lower than Vancouver's.
When you get cities at the top like many Can/Aus cities and European ones, especially Nordic, then it becomes more of a personal choice on what is important to you as an individual not a .01 difference on a ratings scale.
