I think I did mention the name na jar. it's 'Face Bangkok' located @ Sukhumvit Soi 38. :)

We love to dine at Anna's Cafe too coz it is relative cheap for the foods serve and its ambience. We usually pick seats near to their little 'green house'. Yes, indeed it is good to have Birthday meal at Anna's, their staffs will usually gather around your table and sing you a birthday song ... but it can be quite a disturbance for other diners who prefer peaceful dinning. Khor thort na.

How practical longest name to this distinguished outlet ;)
Wanna try and is there closely to Ekkamai ?

Actually Anna's Cafe is elegence but in reasonable price for dine-in . :okay: Friendly climate together with excellent amenity are recalling you return by next visit especially the birthday function where you're organized, can giving all of you in great surprise - sing a song and free pec of cake etc.

This is my favorite restaurant. Located in Chatuchak Rama III and has stunning view of Industrial ring road bridge. Their foods are superb, don't forget to order แกงส้มชะอมไข่, ลาบหมูเด้ง, ยำคะน้ากุ้งฟู, แหนมเอ็นข้อไก่ when you go there.

Coincidentally, we dined at Buri Tara recently. Overall, we found the food to be nice, service is good and the ambiance is laid-back. Not to mention that it is also pretty affordable. However, getting there is a bit tricky even for the local. Best to call them for direction.

hi all,

i just found this forum 2 days ago and ever since, i have been coming in here to look at the delicious food posted....

i really looking at the pix which makes me hungry every time, esp those posted by BODYholic ( great great shot of the food ). am wondering if there are address of the food place you posted BODYholic? are they expensive and how do you get there usually?

the first few pages, the picture just jumps at me as it was not scaled down but recently the picture are just great.... (fits )... not complaining though...

MORE pix... oh by the way, any great seafood place to go to? How about Soombon Seafood and another one near Emporium?

Somboon is good for tourists and foreigners. If you wanna eat great seafood, just eat fresh by going Pattaya, Chonburi, Rayong, Hua Hin or nearest Bangpu instead.

Glad that you love those pics but I have to admit i am not a professional photographer, this can be told by the many out of focus, some even under exposed pics. Basically, I just snap, snap and snap at beautiful things whenever I m in Thailand (btw i am fm Singapore).

I will compile the addresses of those restaurants that I posted here. As for the cost for dining, it really varies but generally, a table for two, it set us back anything from THB500 to THB4000 (include a bottle of red wine). In any case, it is easily 50% cheaper for the same food and ambiance in Singapore. We hunt for our food by cab. :) If you are observant, you may realise that we don't dine in hotels' restaurants. Famous they can be, we don't find it worthy to pay the high premium just because it is 5stars. We love Thai foods and especially when the ambiance is cosy, laid back and not rowdy! Do share with me, if you know of any good (less known?) restaurants in Bangkok that fit our bill.

I am sorry for the BIG fotos. Those were posted when I newly joined this forums. If I have the time, I will get them trimmed. :)

Regards,

Somboon (the one near MBK) is good and the price is reasonable. I and my family eat there quite often. Everytime I go there, most customers are Thai.
I don't know about other branches of Somboon such as the one in Silom, but I guess it's more touristy.

Thai food is the best. Better than Chinese. the only country i keep going back to because of the food. Thai restaurants in the US don't taste the same as the real thai food in bangkok though.
Some of my favorites, padthai, mango with sticky rice, laarb, papaya salad, beef salad,
I like the food court on top of mbk, cheap and delicious.
I think i will buy a small condo in bangkok so i can eat thai food for long periods.

Too bad it is really hard to get good Thai food outside Thailand. Even in Singapore, the so-called good Thai restaurants are still sub-standard to me.

I have sampled, for example, green curry chicken in a few local Thai restaurants. It was disaster. All chicken fillets came with skin and the color of the curry just didn't look appetizing at all. Not to mention the price was cut-throat.

Which is why I will only take Thai foods on every opportunity I have when I'm in Thailand. I seriously can't understand why some of country mates go Thailand to eat Chinese food!

Tokyo 'top city for good eating'
When will Bangkok follow?

The home of haute cuisine just got taken down a peg with an authoritative judgement that Paris is not the world's top city for good eating.
That distinction now goes to Tokyo, according to the bible for foodies everywhere, the Michelin guide.

In its first ever edition devoted to an Asian city, it awarded restaurants in Tokyo a total of 191 stars.

That was nearly twice as many as Paris can boast, and more than three times New York's total.

Tokyo is becoming the global city with the finest cuisine, the city in the world with the most stars

Eight of Tokyo's restaurants won the maximum three stars - only two fewer than Paris itself. Another 25 got two stars and 117 one star.

To add to Paris's embarrassment, three of the top eight restaurants in Tokyo serve French food. Three more offer traditional Japanese fine dining, and the other two are sushi houses.

"Tokyo is becoming the global city with the finest cuisine, the city in the world with the most stars," said Michelin guide director Jean-Luc Naret.

Michelin's plans to assess Tokyo restaurants had caused controversy in Japan, where some commentators had doubted whether it would be up to the job.

Yes, I believe the Thai name derived from the Chinese words 'Dang Yuen'. Over here, the color is usually white and served sweet in soup.

I thought you would prefer chicken satay because that is more of a Malay dish which, I suppose, is popular in Southern Thailand.

What does "dang yuen" mean? And what is dang yuen made from?

ทองหยอด (thong yord) is basically egg yolk and flour cooked in heated syrup. Apparently it was the Portuguese, not Chinese, who introduced it to Thai cuisine.

汤圆 (Tang Yuen) is Glutinous rice balls and usually serve hot in sweet syrup/soup.
汤 = Soup / 圆 = round
This picture of 汤圆 was taken at Yaowarat last month.

Admittedly I must have mistaken the golden thongyrod for the Chinese tang yuen. The confusion could have been a result of their near sounding Thai pronunciation (for a foreigner ears of course).:nuts:

Are these the sticky balls with crushed black sesame seeds inside? And the syrup is flavored with ginger? I love those....

I also love เต้าทึง which is a Thai transliteration of a Chinese dialect. Basically its ice on various flour products, fruits and all lathered with syrup....Mmmmmmm

yes, black sesame paste is the typical filling but there are also other varieties like pounded peanuts, red bean paste or even the rare yam paste filling which I've tried. You are also right that the dessert is usually flavored with ginger and pandanus leaves (bai dtoey).

The เต้าทึง/dtao-teung looks yummilicious. If I'm not wrong, dtao is Teochiew for 'bean', and 'teung' is 'syrup/soup' (ie 汤 in Chinese).

Gosh! I'm salivating laew.

Yea I kinda had a hard time recognizing its location when I was there for the first time. Personally I didn't find their foods irresistible in terms of taste, but I do admit they did have awesome desserts especially the "BTS" - Better Than Sex,,,

been to this place; there were two cake buffet places in that soi (Sukhumvit 33), another one was Cafe' Buongiorno where they as well served Italian foods, mainly. But for some reason i went there again and the restaurant went disappeared - -"

Le Boulanger was a nice place too, compare to what we have to pay and what they have to offer :)

Thanks. I googled 'Cafe Buongiorno sukhumvit 33' and found this (http://dunbine.exteen.com/20070803/cafe-buongiorno-1-2-33). From those pictures, it seems to be better than Le Boulanger. what a pity, if they're no longer around. anyway, i've saved their contact for future reference.

AGALICO Tea House and Bakery @Sukhumvit 51

nice nice atmosphere for an afternoon tea, great taste of cake with agreeable prices,, this place doesn't have a sign or anything that let you know where it's located, you just need to drive into soi 51, around 70 meters and watch your right, there will be one white building with one friendly security guard welcomes you to the place at the door :)

^^ I believe I have heard of Agalico in the course of my research. My understanding is that (I could be wrong) they only open on weekends. In fact, the owner (who's who?) doesn't earn a living through this.

Well, that's something really good about Thailand. Anyone (creative ones, of course) can easily transform their residential units in to restaurants or whatever. We can't do that in Singapore, regardless how creative the idea is!

As it was pouring outside, we were assigned to this big low wooden table. It was a bit uncomfortable to eat so low.

No lah, You guys are eating Thai foods day in and day out. So I'm not surprised that this thread is kinda déjà vu to most forumers here.

Oh, may I know is Pad Kanom Jing (5th pic) an Issan dish? That's the first time I'd it and it was so so so good! :) it's quite a diff experience from eating with those spicy gaeng.
