bangali October 10th, 2005, 04:24 PM Brings back a lot of memories... Thank you for the pictures.
nayeem007 October 11th, 2005, 05:52 PM Absolutely wonderful pics. Thanks a bunch callapu for sharing the pics with us..
Akram June 18th, 2006, 10:34 PM While recalling old memories today, I thought of my college days too. This urged me to search the Internet with the hope to find some information about my old college in Comilla, and there I found some pictures. Thanks to the friend who posted them here.
I have been a student of Comilla Victoria College from September 1961 to January 1964. I left Comilla in January 1964 and then never returned. I still remember the view shown in the last picture.
There is a place called Rani Bangla about 5 miles from Comilla. There used to be wonderful Bunion tree on top of a small hill. I was told the tree is several hundred years old. I wish someone could take a picture of it and post it here.
Dhakaiya January 12th, 2007, 01:26 PM I have a handful of Comilla pictures (not too many) and I think its high time this thread was active again. It will really be great and appreciable if pros like Tmac & Mirza cooperate because I think with their help (and all Bangladeshis of course) the Bangladesh threads will shine.
Dhakaiya January 12th, 2007, 01:27 PM Time to revive the Comilla thread. Monument in Comilla Cantonment.

What is the distance between Dhaka (city) and Comilla? Isn't it about 60 miles? Just about the same distance between Ann Arbor and Sterling Heights, where many of my friends reside. It is about an hour to hour and a half to drive there. What is the commute time these days between Dhaka and Comilla?

I went to comilla by express bus a while ago. I don't remember how long it took me - but, i finished the task i had in hand, had lunch and mishti, and made it back the same day. i hear that it's a lot better now - even by public transport.

I'd say about three hours these days -- give or take half an hour. Yeah Majhi Bhai, can't forget the Mishti :)
Comilla Roshomalai is famous stuff. Originally the Moira (Sweets makers) people were employed under the Tripura Kings in Comilla before they moved to Agartala after India broke up and E. Pakistan was created. Sachin Dev Burman was a cousin to one of the kings at that time and he was (as we all know) culturally active.
Comilla was the seat of the Tripura kings and a large portion of Eastern Bengal was under their rule (mostly Comilla + Noakhali + Tripura).

British-Bangladeshi June 13th, 2012, 08:59 PM Construction of lot-2 of 230kV Bibiyana-Comilla transmission line completed
Construction works of lot-2 of 230 kV Bibiyana-Comilla transmission lines have been completed.
According to official sources, the Power Grid Company of Bangladesh (PGCB) had undertaken a project two years back to construct the 160 kilometre long transmission line in order to facilitate transmission of more electricity from Sylhet region.
PGCB officials said that evacuation and transmission of electricity from the three proposed large base-load power plants in the Bibiyana Gas field area were the main targets behind initiating the large transmission project.
The PGCB divided the total works into three lots and appointed three separate contractors for speedy implementation of the project. Indian contractor Jyoti Structures Ltd was awarded the lot-2 contract at a cost of US$ 13.6 million.
The contractor started the work in February last year and completed the project in May this year as per schedule. Officials hope the works of the remaining two lots will be completed within the current year.
Officials of Jyoti Structures, which have been operating in about 40 countries in the world having more than 35 years of experience, said they want more involvement in Bangladesh power sector in the future.
