Because of the excellent photography, I gave Phoenix a 7. It looks dense in these shots; they're great.

They did take about 5 minutes to load over 56k though... Gonna take a while getting used to my PCMCIA slot being busted up. :(

Nice examples of Art Deco and PoMo, and Bank One is one of my favorite examples of late Modern.

Has awhile to go before the skyline=population, but it really is an up-and-coming city and will be impressive soon enough.

Wow, lol... that first pick is crazy...
I was scrolling along sideways...and I wasn't seeing any significant skyline until BAM!!!! that big old sucker poped right infront of my face. lol.

Anyways, the skyline for a city that size is actually quite poor... the buildings aren't very tall, and it's not very dense.

However, I do like some of the designs of the buildings, and for that, I shall give it a 6.5

Phoenix's skyline looks better up close, with there being some neat looking buildings up close. This plain skyline is also enhanced by the mountains in the distance. I give it a 7/10.

Not that I want them, but sometimes I think that it's really too bad that there are no Federal rules concerning the boundaries of cities. Phoenix is a moderate to low density region that has a city government and so is a city. Its boundaries are so large that it is considered on of the biggest cities in the US. Counties in the West are so large it is also considered a large metro. Sure the area is growing, but the population figures give a false impression of size. It will be a long time before the Phoenix skyline comes into line with its population figures.

Has a (very) small core area with a dense collection of tallish buildings, with some differing designs. The core creates a well-formed focal point. Other than that I am extremely disappointed with Phoenix's skyline, one of the fastest growing and largest cities in the US, it deserves something a hell of a lot better than that! Got my fingers crossed that it will happen in time.....

I flew into PHX on a Las Vegas trip couple of year ago. I saw it from the plane, just like those pictures, Patrick posted. Height does not make up 100% of my score. But the one thing I can't forgive, is how the skyline looks like it is all along that one street.
It will not factor into my skyline vote, but I want to say Sky Harbor is one ass-kicking airport! That thing was impressive!

I used to live in the Phoenix area and I can truly say that the skyline and the city itself is truly a pathetic joke! I've seen suburban office highrises in Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, and Atlanta that are taller than all the buildings in the Phoenix skyline. By seeing this short stuby skyline you would never guess that the Phoenix metro area is 14th largest in the U.S.

say what you want about it looking better from "some vantage point," but this skyline sucks! For as large as this metro is and for how fast it is growing, there should cranes all over the place and towers similar in height to Seattle...major disappointment!

The downtown is also too linear. There is really no "core" to speak of, just 2 intersecting streets lined with "high" rises. There needs to be some sort of monorail constructed down the two to promote higher density and walkability. Otherwise, the downtown is going to sprawl like the rest of the metro!

In addition to the cheap land, downtown phoenix is so stunted because it is directly in the path of the airport--cant really build up much. But the city is basically one enormous suburb. Outside of a few manufactured districts in Tempe, there is nothing urban about Phoenix.

I think Phoenix is one of the best examples of a skyline not being a way to judge the culture of a city. Phoenix is a great city and I been there and loved it(not the heat)and would live there.

It doesnt have a skyline in its downtown like most cities with over 1,000,000 people but, is a far more fun place than those cities with larger and more dense skylines. Phoenix is an example of you cant judge a book by its cover!

That being said Phoenix is a 6.5 in skyline alone not, by no means does there skyline tell the story of the growth in that town. I think Phoenix is Miami without a beach in about 10 more years. There new stadium for there football team is a perfect 10. And they have all the best in sports as far as pro teams are concerned.

More to this city than people who are just judging its skyline can see. The skyline of cities are the covers of books and the people and the places you visit in person are the inside of the book!

Phoenix is a great book!

Please take a gander at the street-level photo threads in the northeastern and mid-atlantic forum. It may not change your mind, but there is traditional urbanity in America.

If Phoenix's metro was around 250,000, I might even give it an 8 or 9. But alas, for nearly four million, this is a sad sorry 3.5

Phoenix was a big disapointment for me. The locals (if you can find them are nice, alot of Chicago and California transplants). I was there last year. Scottsdale isn't so bad, and the wether this nice during the winter, but I wasn't happy at all with the urban environment. It's skyline reminds me of one our suburbs (Evanston). The skyline is a 5/10 at best. The natural sorroundings are great!

What about Houston, Calgary, Denver, and Dallas/Ft.Wth? None of them r east coast, terribly old, or pressed for land...

Despite the city's skyline size/population ratio, in absolute terms, I actually like it for some reason. It's clean, simple, warm, and modern. Nothing spectacular, but cute. I think I'll be generous with a 6/10

This city is a joke, why even bother making a skyline at all? Wouldnt just make 1000 3 story suburban office park be cheaper, i suppose they dont want people to think that the fastest growing city in the US has no skyline.

For such a highly populated city, it'sskyline lacks, but I like it.
It's not a dense city at all, but the pics on page one make it look dense.

What do you mean by "dense" though?

I have been their several times, and it seems dense. Everything is pretty much lowrise, but it is like that forever. Everything seems tightly packed together.

For example, in the southeast, you will go from all woods, to shopping malls and houses, then back to the woods, and back to shopping centers. In Phoenix, there are buildings that seem to go on forever, with no breaks.

Phoenix is dense, just not dense when it comes to mid and high rises.

skyline to spread out, not dense enough. Makes it look too suburban if you ask me. The buildings themsleves would make for a nice skyline if it were clusstered more. Considering it's size, not too impressive a skyline. 5 or 6/10

But after seeing a few photos just now I would have to say that it looks like a nice city. I love the skyline with the blue glassy buildings.

I live here and I'm fully aware that the skyline is not all that impressive. Unfortunately planes are taking off right over downtown so we will likely never see truly tall skyscrapers in Phoenix. It does have it's charm though and there is definitely room to grow, but not without controversy. The areas immediately surrounding downtown are generally run down and full of cheap housing. In order to expand the downtown the city would have to deal with thousands of displaced low income residents in an area where housing prices have skyrocketed in the last few years. not an easy task.

I must say the sunsets here are spectacular.

I like Phoenix, but it needs more taller buildings and alot of renoavtions. Phoenix is a unique city because it is so new (compared to other major US cities), it has alot of different cultures, and it's like another Roswell due to the big UFO controversy in 1997. I see there is alot of construction going on and some high rises going up. Phoenix needs tall buildings like Chicago or New York since it's in the top 5 biggest cities. Hopefully in the future, I just hope that the airport will choose different flight patterns instead of sticking it right in the middle of downtown.
I give it a 9/10

The man who sells candy confections at a small concession stand cannot afford to pay for an expensive advertisement. Yet in 2007,( Cheap RS Gold (http://www.gobuycheaprsgold.com) )such concession stand owners stood to enjoy the benefits of what amounted to a lengthy commercial. That’s because a collection of candy confection lingerie had been displayed on TV. That collection had been included in one of Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows. That Show was shot by cameras from the CBS Studios. That show aired during prime time, insuring its delivery to a large, wide-eyed audience. Can you picture the interest in a Super Bowl halftime that had received the sponsorship of Victoria’s Secret?

Before the launching of Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows(RuneScape Gold (http://www.storeingame.com)), one would have had to look long and hard for anyone who was eager to watch an hour long commercial. Now a person who does not leave the room during every commercial is much easier to find. Now, comments made by Jack Sussman, an executive Buy RS Gold at CBS suggest an increased interest in commercials, or at least in one commercial like production.

Before the airing of the 2007 Fashion Show, as sponsored by Victoria Secret, a reporter talked with Jack Sussman. Sussman’s channel planned to televise the show that Sussman referred to as an “event.” After Sussman described the fashion show as an “event,” the reporter asked if the televised show was not really more like an hour long commercial. Sussman did not seek to counter the reporter’s observation.

Sussman knew that even a published story that compared a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show to a lengthy commercial would not diminish public interest in the scheduled show. Sussman knew that millions of viewers would tune in for a look at the starring act in that show—the Spice Girls. Sussman could also point to one big difference between the planned Fashion Show and a real TV commercial. Sussman knew that money from ticket sales would benefit a local AIDS related charity – specifically Camp Heartland.

By the way, we have enough RS Gold on stock. Just buy Cheap RS Gold from us(Buy WOW Gold (http://www.zyy.com)). It will be delivered at first time.

Given that Phoenix's metro population is similar to that of Sydney, I rate Phoenix about 3/10. The more I look at it, the more I am disgusted.

From a distance, Phoenix looks so uncongested and less crowded. It’s got properly spread buildings and mostly low line buildings. It’s not that I am not a fan of skyscrapers, in fact I love them. But I find the unique spread of Phoenix differently appealing.

4/10.

Probably the least impressive American city for its size. the buildings are small and boring looking, really nothing impressive about it. Phoenix should have a skyline to rival that of other cities in the southwest like Dallas and Houston, yet it does not.

I think the reason it sucks so bad is because this is another spread out city. Just like LA's skyline can't compare to Chicago's yet LA is much bigger. These are both cities in the middle of nowhere so there's lots of alternate land to build, rather than concentrating on a "downtown." Definitely a lackluster skyline, but it's a city that's growing economically! Just give it time.

Phoenix is awesome city, however, given its rank as the 6th largest (in population) in the States, the skyline and the city's downtown aerial view does leave much to be desired both architecturally and aesthetically (see those several spaces of desert sand :ohno:)

The height you can't do anything about since there are restrictions.

But it could at least be more compact (with some better architecture).

7.0. There are many buildings, the mountains make beautiful backdrop. I like the mix color of buildings, not just glassy like many other cities. The buildings look boxy rather than rectangular. I think the width is close to the height of the building. The buildings are mostly flat tops are boring to me. Could do better, but I doubt it will get bigger.

^^To be honest I live in Phoenix and I do not remember the last time I was in the downtown area. Phoenix is surrounded by mountains... they are the real skyscrapers of the city. Also, there is land available in every direction with a good freeway network. Therefore, there is no need to build skyscrapers.
