Manila-X October 11th, 2005, 08:00 AM Just wondering, do you like cantopop or popular cantopop singers like Leon Lai, Aaron Kwok or Anita Mui?

superchan7 October 11th, 2005, 09:03 AM Incredible: Jacky and George Lam
Good: Andy Lau, Leo Ku, Andy Hui
Okay: Leon Lai, Aaron Kwok, Gigi Leung
I think are overrated: Miriam Yeung, Twins
Stupid regardless of their singing ability: Nicholas Tse
trueapprentice October 11th, 2005, 09:39 AM Cantopop had a humble beginning in history b'cos hk use to be influenced by mandarin songs & english songs. Native original local songs began with Sam Hui, Wong Jim, Joseph Koo etc
I think there are many good singers & songs of Cantopop, but some are not 'packaged' as a multi-media product so not alot of people would appeal to them. I think canto-lyrics are great
Some good singers: Alan Tam, Lee Hakkin, George Lam, Roman Tam, Leslie Cheung, Anita Mui, Sally Yip, Eason Chan, Leo Ku, Sandy Lam, Teresa Carpio, Jacky Cheung, Joey Yung, Beyond (Original) ...
spicytimothy October 11th, 2005, 01:22 PM LOOOOOOVE Ivana Wong, she's just so talented :-)
Joey Kenny Miriam Kelly Twins aren't too bad, but dependent on particular songs...
Anekdote October 11th, 2005, 09:43 PM No, I don't like it, because the songs are boring to me...
I prefer more Alternative and Hard Rock :)
But i used to listen CantoPop 2 years ago lol...
hkskyline October 12th, 2005, 04:34 AM Yumiko is still around? I haven't heard from her for a while.
There are some good songs here and there. I can't pinpoint a specific singer. Good material seems to be scattered across the artists.
superchan7 October 12th, 2005, 04:40 AM Good: Anita Mui, Kelly Chen, Alan Tam, Hacken Lee, Joey Yung, Wong Ka Kui (deceased)
Okay: Sammi Cheng, Eason Chan

Syd-Hk October 12th, 2005, 06:41 AM eason and joey i like, but im starting to think twins are boring.
superchan7 October 12th, 2005, 07:28 AM The second list contains the singers I forgot to mention in the first. And I didn't feel like combining them, for some odd reason...
hktreasure October 12th, 2005, 11:17 AM I like Joey Yung most~
YelloPerilo October 12th, 2005, 11:57 AM Few are good, some are OK and most are crap.
OBman October 13th, 2005, 12:55 PM used to like songs from: aaron kwok, jacky cheung, sammi and gigi.
i think aaron kowk is gettin abit old, jacky cheung comes out once in while when he needs money, sammi gettin old, gigi cant sing anymore.
when i say gettin too old, i mean like.... in the 30s, since canto-pop earns most of the money from teens.
crap singers in my opinion: yumiko, edison, shawn yu, twins, and too much new singers i don't even know....
dun really follow canto pop anymore unless my friends play it

they are more movie stars than professional singers thesedays
OBman October 14th, 2005, 03:56 AM ahh yeh... forgot... after their singing career, movies will make money for them.
is hins cheung considered in the canto pop genre??
i think he's one of the pretty good ones out of the new singers
Terrence October 15th, 2005, 05:16 AM My favorite: Jackie Cheung, Leo Koo, Eason Chan
