I think that is River :D

It cant be a river...its too clean to be a river:D And if you look closely, there are unfinished columns in and around the body of water. And i dont believe a river passes through that area.

I know that there is a river that passes along past Shangri-La, BNI, Landmark Center, though. Dunno its name.

indonesia has the most beautiful tropical plants!and weve got a lot of talented landscape architects (or maybe just artistic people ) :) our city would look sooo much better if they add more tropical plants to 'beautify' or streetscape..with colourful frangipanis, birds of paradise, orchids.. (sigh)....oohh im daydreaming now....

i think the first part is called jalan panjang.. the second part towards PIM and senayan is called jalan arteri

besides Gedung DPR MPR there is a shady and comfort park. was called Taman Ria Remaja if i'm not mistaken. with small 'lake' also.

Monas deer population explodes

The city has become so crowded that even the deer in the National Monument Park in Central Jakarta are apparently having trouble finding a little elbowroom, or is that "hoof room".

The population of spotted deer in the park has soared to 87, from 12 does and bucks released by Governor Sutiyoso two years ago.

"The ideal population density in the deer zone, as recommended by experts from the Bogor Institute of Agriculture, is 50," said Sri Mulyono, the head of Ragunan Zoo, which is responsible for the health and care of Monas' deer.

Overpopulation could spell trouble for the deer, because it would mean food shortages and a lack of space to roam freely.

Sri said he had recommended that some of the deer be moved to the zoo, but had yet to receive a response from the governor.

Sutiyoso is in South Africa and will return on Dec. 3.

"Some mayors in Jakarta have also expressed interest in releasing some of the deer in other parks across the capital, but we do not think this is a good idea because I doubt the deer would be properly looked after," Sri said.

He said spotted deer were sensitive creatures that did not react well to noise and pollution.

Sutiyoso set aside five hectares of land within the 100-hectare Monas park to create a "deer zone" in 2003, ignoring critics who said the deer would not be able to survive in the heart of the bustling and noisy capital.

The deer released in Monas came from the grounds of the National Intelligence Agency headquarters, the governor's house in Cibubur, East Jakarta, and from private donors.

President Megawati Soekarnoputri inaugurated the deer zone on June 5, 2003. One deer died before the ceremony but was immediately replaced.

According to Sri, each deer is valued at Rp 10 million.

Jakarta definitely needs more parks. I think in terms of the number and size of parks, Jakarta is currently below Singapore or KL.

jaystar, botanical garden is in Bogor and I agree in terms of size it is the biggest in SEA. The problem with Jakarta is that there are too many inappropriate landed houses in the downtown (not like the case of Singapore or KL where most people lives in suburb). The government can actually build more parks for Jakartans if it is not the case I think.

JAKARTA--MIOL: Masyarakat perorangan maupun swasta mendapat kesempatan merawat taman-taman kota yang selama ini seluruhnya menjadi tanggung jawab Dinas Pertamanan DKI Jakarta.

"Kami buka kesempatan kepada masyarakat untuk berpartisipasi pada penghijauan kota melalui program 'adopt a park'," kata Kepala Dinas Pertamanan Sarwo Handayani kepada wartawan di Jakarta, Kamis.

Dia menjelaskan konsep "adopsi" adalah perorangan maupun swasta yang berminat melakukan perawatan taman dapat memasang nama dan logo di taman tersebut, termasuk di bangku taman.

"Status kepemilikan tanah tetap Pemprov DKI Jakarta. Masyarakat yang berminat dapat melakukan perawatan sendiri atau bekerjasama dengan Dinas Pertamanan," kata Sarwo.

Konsep adopsi juga berlaku untuk jalur hijau dan pohon di mana nama atau logo pihak yang merawat terpampang pada papan di bawah pohon.

Sarwo mengaku belum ada perorangan maupun swasta yang menawarkan kerjasama tersebut, kecuali satu toko buku yang membiayai perawatan jalur hijau di Kwitang, Senen, Jakarta Pusat.

Mengenai lokasi taman, Sarwo mengemukakan pihaknya memprioritaskan konsep adopsi tersebut untuk taman yang dibangun di kawasan padat, kumuh dan miskin.

"Kami punya data titik-titik mana saja yang bisa digunakan sebagai taman. Mereka bisa memilihnya sendiri atau kami yang menentukan," katanya.

Dia mengaku program tersebut butuh biaya besar, khususnya untuk taman di kawasan kumuh, padat dan miskin karena masyarakat perorangan atau swasta terlebih dulu harus membebaskan lahan minimal 200 m2.

Sarwo menjelaskan beberapa lahan yang dapat dikerjasamakan perawatannya adalah di Kecamatan Mampang seluas 808 m2 dengan biaya Rp41,2 juta/tahun, Matraman 912 m2 (Rp 46.5 juta), Johar Baru 531 m2 (Rp 27 juta).

Selain itu terdapat Taman Situ Lembang Menteng seluas 14.700 m2 (Rp 551 juta), taman Langsat Kebayoran seluas 35 ribu m2 (Rp 1,3 miliar), Taman Suropati seluas 15 ribu m2 (Rp 562 juta), Hutan kota Kampung Sawah seluas 28.762 m2 (Rp 661 juta), taman bumi perkemahan Ragunan seluas 70 ribu m2 (Rp 1,6 miliar) dan taman situ Babakan seluas 22.500 m2 (Rp 517 juta).

Jalur hijau di Jalan Imam Bonjo seluas 5.035 m2 (Rp256 juta), Jalan Kramat Salemba seluas 17.265 m2 (Rp880 juta), Jalan Casablanca seluas 32.503 m2 (Rp 1,6 miliar), Jl Rasuna Said seluas 55.855 m2 (Rp1 miliar).

Selain itu jalur hijau yang dapat dikerjasamakan adalah Jl MH Thamrin seluas 23.430 m2 (Rp 679 juta), Jalan Jenderal Sudirman seluas 121.380 m2 (Rp2 miliar), Taman Semanggi seluas 103.388 m2 (Rp1,7 miliar) dan Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat seluas 22.414 m2 (Rp381 juta). (Ant/OL-1)

I lived in Jakarta Pusat (Kebon Sirih area) aroun 1999-2000 ... Even, at that time Jakarta Pusat has been so cleeeaaaaannn (especially, Kawasan Gambir and Menteng) .... The dirtiest part of Jakarta Pusat (as I remembered at that time) was Cempaka Putih and Tanah Abang ;).

Debu jangan ditanya....kecuali di dalam kali. Yang gue sayangkan trotoar pada bolong-bolong...dan banyak orang bisa sih kagak suka lingkungan sehat & enak. Gue hampir tertabrak motor di troar waktu jalan, abiz motor sendiri ampe ke atas trotoar:ohno:
Padahal.....disini orang Indonesia dikenal disiplin & paling taat sama undang-undang negara. Berdasarkan angket orang Indonesia sebagai emigran yang paling berintegrasi dibandingkan imigran dari negara lain....:banana:

banyak kok yg bgn rumah2 megah di cemput sekarang.. :)
and tanah abang.. emang sampe skarang masih jorok.. :sleepy:
skrg tinggal di daerah jelambar ya ham?? di sana juga gak gt bersih kan daerahnya ya??

Maksud aq Cempaka Putih yang deket2 SENEN :D ...

Tanah Abang udah bersih ;) ... soalnya udah tertata .... Jalan yang di atas UNDERPASS bahkan udah jarang macet ;) ...

Aq tinggal di TOMANG .... Jelambar deket lahh ....

4 kelurahan besar Jakarta Barat:

1. Grogol: Rumahnya gede-gede .... sayang korban banjir .... jalannya lebar .... rada sepi juga dalemnya
2. Jelambar: Paling padet .... rumah bisa ampe 3 tingkat .... jalanan sempit -_-"
3. Tomang: Jalannya lumayan gede ... gak rame ... rumahnya rata-rata ukuran sedang :D
4. Tanjung Duren: Jalannya lumayan gede..... tapi macetttt :tongue: ... rumahnya rata2 ukuran gede ... macet, soalnya di dalamnya banyak kawasan RUKO (++ kantor) ...... dalam kawasan perumahan ada, pusat bisnis ... capeee deee :|

Aq yakin penduduk Jakarta Barat itu sebagian besar terpusat di 4 kelurahan ini :D

City Forest at Borobudur Park

BeritaJakarta.com Jakarta Dept. of City Park will implement forest city at Borobudur Park on Jl Borobudur, Pegangsaan, Central Jakarta. It will be realized on 2009. “The park will need Rp 10 billion and private instance will be involved as the sponsor,” said Jakarta Head of City Park, Sarwo Handayani, at Menteng Park, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (2/10).

Handayani stated that park as ruang terbuka hijau must has esthetic and spatial value that useful for the environment. The department will hold park design competition at two locations, Semanggi and Ayodia Park. One of the judges, Karnaya, explained that forest for urban activities concept has good characteristic because plenty of trees will make air quality better. “The concept is naturalistic because the society activity is doing under the tree,” explained Karnaya.

Viaduct Park is renovated

BeritaJakarta.com Viaduct Park Klender on Jl I Gusti Ngurah Rai is being renovated. The park is not only for society interaction but also as city forest. Because of become the target for Adipura appraisal, the park which was fully loaded with street vendors and dumps has been changed directly. There are no street vendors and dumps in the park.

East Jakarta Vice Mayor, Terman Siregar, asked to the society to pay attention on the park not only for Viaduct Park but also for other parks near their house. “The society has responsibility to pay attention on the park,” said Siregar, Monday (1/10). Siregar added that burning the garbage will cause air pollution, it is better to bring to the final dump site.

You never realize that’s this is actually in the center of Jakarta, the crowded city :D Anyway, it’s so refreshing if you sit around the fountain because sometimes the water would splash some cold sensation to your face :D Let’s go!

Green movement mushrooms in Jakarta

Green events are sprouting like mushrooms throughout the capital, as many institutions hold events to promote environmental conservation and protection.

Cigarette producer PT HM Sampoerna (Sampoerna) held its My Green City Expo on Saturday and Sunday in the Keong Mas parking lot of Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII) in East Jakarta.

Guests at the event could browse the variety of plants and trees spread out over 12 stalls.

"With this exposition, we want to encourage people to start planting trees as well as raise their awareness on the importance of separating their trash," Sampoerna's Bambang Tri Prasojo said.

"We will be giving out 2,000 potted trees to visitors, so they can plant a tree in the stall they consider the most attractive, with a prize going to the stall that receives the most trees," he added.

Despite Sampoerna's hopes, more visitors were seen crowding the main stage to get a glimpse of local bands performing than touring the plant stalls.

Dewi, a resident of Pinang Ranti, East Jakarta, said she stopped by the stalls to pick up some cacti.

"I like plants and I decided to buy some cacti because they only cost Rp 5,000 per pot," she said.

The Jakarta Society Reforms Organization held its two-day seminar recently, with the participation of representatives from 10 junior high schools in Central and East Jakarta, as well of environmental activists and those in the private sector.

Imam Prasojo, a sociologist from the University of Indonesia and member of LPMJ, said green movements, including those concerned with waste management, should involve the city administration more.

"The green movement needs policy support from the administration, in the form of bylaws that will encourage people to go green. Unfortunately, city agencies too often get trapped in their own bureaucracies," he added.

As an example, Imam cited one neighborhood in a slum area in Muara Kapuk, North Jakarta, that had begun to process waste into fertilizer, only to encounter difficulty in market their product.

"Kapuk residents offered the fertilizer to the park agency, but agency officials said they would first have to prepare an official bid. I think we all know they won't be winning that competition," Imam said.

If a city bylaw existed allowing the park agency to set aside funds for fertilizer made by neighborhoods without a bidding process, Kapuk residents might be more motivated to manage their waste, he added.

Meanwhile, along the Kramat Sention River, the Central Jakarta administration held its clear river program and fishing competition.

As no fish actually live in the river, the organizing committee introduced some 500 kilograms of fresh catfish, placing colorful ribbons on some of the creatures.

Participants who reeled in a ribboned fish received various prizes, including a television, a fan, a mobile phone and a refrigerator.

'Superblocks add to green space'

Public parks within superblocks run by private developers can alleviate the lack of green public space and help urban revitalization, an expert said Friday.

"The city administration needs to revitalize the city but doesn't have the cash. So permitting private superblocks is a part of urban revitalization," University of Indonesia economist Faisal Basri said at the launch of Podomoro City, a superblock in Tanjung Duren, West Jakarta.

"In the past, this area was a slum, but has now been turned into a developed area," he said.

Development of superblocks is on the rise in Jakarta. The superblock offers a mixed-used concept, comprising residences, offices and entertainment centers on a 10-hectare or more swathe of land, usually in the heart of a city.

Faisal said the green space in superblocks could also function as open public space to fulfill the city administration's green space target.

The administration aims to turn 13.9 percent of Jakarta into green space by 2010, but has only managed 9.6 percent to date.

"The only way to make it possible is to have taller buildings to allow more open green space," Faisal said.

He suggested the administration conduct extensive city planning to determine the details of each development plan and only then hand over the development to the private sector.

"The companies must follow the development guidelines provided by the administration. It would be even better if they can improve on them," he added.

The Podomoro City superblock straddles 21 hectares of land, with 4 hectares dedicated to green space. Of this space, 1.5 hectares will be turned into a garden that will benefit not only residents and shopping mall visitors, but also the overall air quality in Jakarta.

The city administration regulates the proportion of required green space developers must have based on several criteria, such as location and population density in the area. The precise figures are available at the City Planning Office.

The number of superblocks in Jakarta has increased rapidly as developers cash in on rising demands for more compact all-in-one living and working quarters.

"Many people moved out to satellite cities after the 1998 riot. But over time, and as traffic gets worse, people are thinking of moving back to the city," said Rubby Widjaja, marketing manager of the superblock's developer, PT Tiara Metropolitan Jaya, a subsidiary of Agung Podomoro Group.

"Superblocks will save people time and money on the commute since they can meet almost all their daily needs within the area."

Other developers have focused on building superblocks in South Jakarta, including Lippo Group's Kemang Village, Pakuwon Group's Gandaria City, Ciputra Group's Ciputra World in Casablanca and Bakrie Group's Rasuna Epicentrum in Kuningan. (mri)

Sayang tempat yg bagus gak dikelola dg baik....malah pengin masuk aja dihalang halangi katanya hrs ada ijin dari balai konservasi....lah alamat balai aja gak ngerti dimana. Yang jelas di depan papan atau di lobby gak ada tulisan dilarang masuk, tapi penjaganya sok galak...hanya boleh masuk sekitar 10 meter saja.....payah

Foke Resmikan Taman Ayodya Senilai Rp 2,1 Miliar

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com — Pemprov DKI mengucurkan dana Rp 2,1 miliar untuk menjadikan lokasi eks pedagang bunga di wilayah Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan, yang digusur tahun lalu, menjadi sebuah ruang terbuka hijau bernama Taman Ayodya.

Demikian Kepala Dinas Pertamanan dan Pemakaman DKI Ery Basworo saat peresmian Taman Ayodya Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta, Minggu (15/3). "Taman ini seluas 7.500 meter persegi, di dalamnya ada 1.500 meter persegi danau, 1.700 meter persegi jogging track, 200 pohon, dan 2 gazebo," kata Ery.

Menurut Ery, taman yang terletak di kawasan Barito itu, sejak awalnya merupakan tempat publik, tetapi sekitar tahun 1960 banyak pedagang bunga dan ikan membuka kios di tempat tersebut. "Untuk itu, pembangunan taman ini adalah usaha untuk mengembalikan fungsi tempat ini untuk ruang publik," kata Ery.

Sementara itu, saat meresmikan taman ini Gubernur DKI Fauzi Bowo dalam sambutannya tidak menampik tempat ini dibangun dari hasil penggusuran. Secara terbuka ia meminta maaf kepada pedagang yang digusur demi pembangunan taman ini. "Untuk itu saya juga ucapkan terima kasih atas keikhlasan para pedagang," ujarnya.

Menurut pria yang akrab disapa Foke itu, pembangunan taman sebagai tempat publik ini merupakan kebutuhan warga Jakarta untuk meningkatkan kualitas hidupnya. "Orang Jakarta itu perlu lingkungan yang mendukung life style mereka sehingga kualitas hidupnya meningkat," jelasnya.
