snoopy October 14th, 2005, 02:24 AM a very beautiful province! why are people always saying its flat? it seems to me it has much more valleys and hills and such. Are the pictures of the old buildings from the university of regina or sask?
Lucky 24 October 14th, 2005, 02:37 AM Beautiful scenery.
JARdan October 14th, 2005, 02:56 AM OMG! Some of those resemble pics I have seen of places such as wyoming, idaho etc... spectacular. I've NEVER seen Saskatchewan like this. Thanks!
Brett October 14th, 2005, 03:10 AM Nice, pics! When i drove through in the summer i noticed that it was not as flat as the stereotype. There is some nice scenery there...
ssiguy2 October 14th, 2005, 03:24 AM Thanks for the great pics.
I have always loved Sask. Interesting landscapes and history with clear open skies and friendly people. I far prefer the mindset of people from Sask than Alberta, its more communal. It doesn't have Alberta's rah-rah capitalism and a somewhat lack of social responsibility.
Sask has always seemed more easy going and less money driven than Alberta.
*Jarrod October 14th, 2005, 03:48 AM wow...stunning. i never thought saskatchewan looked like that! i guess i stereotyped it.
Hillis October 14th, 2005, 04:24 AM http://www.saskfilm.com/databasedfiles/saskfilm-1009-ViewNew80/ss07.jpg
Wow, where is this (on a map)?
rt_0891 October 14th, 2005, 04:41 AM http://www.saskfilm.com/databasedfiles/saskfilm-1009-ViewNew80/ss07.jpg
Wow, where is this (on a map)?
Great Sand Hills (SW Sask.), it has natural gas deposits underneath.

sargeantcm October 14th, 2005, 05:20 AM Wow, much more geographically diverse than I had ever pictured it. Of course Americans say that about Iowa as well...
touraccuracy October 14th, 2005, 06:28 AM Alberta's... lack of social responsibility.
How do you always manage to be wrong? Just because a government is somewhat conservative, doesn't mean that a province is killing its citizens. Alberta has better funded programs than the rest of the country and its only getting better. Whats wrong with capitalism?
Anyways, great photos. I see you made an effort to show off the less flat areas of the province. ;)
ssiguy2 October 14th, 2005, 07:28 AM Kill its citizens? Lets not get rediculous.
Alberta does spend a lot percapita on programs but has the lowest min wage west of the maritimes even with the recent jack.
Alberta prides itself on its can-do attitude which can be great but has a habit of leaving a lot of people behind.
Its far more individualistic than Sask which is more communal with a little socialist bent.
I really like Alberta but I find the race to the top mentality a bit overwhelming.

Hardly anyone earns Alberta' minimum wage anyways, so it's not really a big issue. Alberta may be a bit individualistic, but that's because the province is full of opportunities, and if you're hardworking, you'll get to share in the wealth. Those who can't earn income because of disabilities/family responsibilities aren't left behind though, and Alberta has kept many social services intact.

What do you consider hardly anyone? 100 people, a 1000 people 10,000 people?
vid October 14th, 2005, 04:36 PM Back on top, that second picture is quite interesting. Though I think they have "mountains" a bit farther north.
nightfire741 October 14th, 2005, 09:29 PM Wow! I really wasn't expecting such a large responce. Thanks, I'm trying to break the coner gas, smalltown, you can see your dog run away for three days stereotype. ;) You see the 9th pic? I wen't there this summer. I might post a few pic of my own.
skyscraper_1 October 14th, 2005, 10:46 PM Sackatchewan isn't just wheat.....its three kinds of wheat!
Those pics are really nice, I never knew it was so varied.
Rhino October 14th, 2005, 11:47 PM Its too bad there largest cities were built no where near these places. If Regina or Sasatoon had a land scape like your pics , the Provincial Pop. might grow more. I lived in Regina so I can say that ! hahaha , but seriously those are great photo's . I think we'd all like to see more .
sargeantcm October 15th, 2005, 12:42 AM Wow! I really wasn't expecting such a large responce...
Hey, I wouldn't care if the pictures sucked. I just like the name, Saskatchewan. I think it's the perfect name to use when you're in a conversation and you need a random place name to throw into the mix! :)
Nate October 15th, 2005, 05:00 AM ^^Moose Jaw and Saskatchewan have been mentioned on the Simpsons for that reason :)

.affed October 15th, 2005, 08:31 PM When people ask me which province I enjoyed the most when I drove across our glorious country, and I reply Saskatchewan, it's funny to see how surprised they are. Saskatchewan is, if not only for its simplicity and utter emptiness, definitely, a very magic place.

Unexpected...I'd say it almost looks downright strange! But interesting!

Yes. North-central Canada has the best "conversation piece" place names of anywhere I've seen. Either they're very descriptive, or you think "how the heck did they come up with that name?!"
(I apologize for the double post, I usually do a better job combining replies.)

Oaronuviss October 16th, 2005, 10:34 AM Those are nice pics.
And to think maybe three years ago I would have never believed those pics came from that province.
Saskatchewan isn't anything but FLAAAT land and wheat. lol no mountains, trees, lakes, nothing of the sort. ;)
ssiguy2 October 17th, 2005, 01:49 AM I love Sask so it bares the question why are so many leaving?
The young are moving away tto Alberta that yes has lots of jobs but Sask unemployment is also very low.
Sask like all provinces are dying to get professionals to stay even if they have their pick of a hundred jobs.
They will make more in Alberta and pay fewer taxes but at the same not pay medicare premiums and buy 2 houses for the price of one in Alberta.
It begs the question, why are they leaving? What's the pull that is causing the young to pick up their bags and leave? More like a comment. Its an intesting question so I'm going to start a new thread.
PS........fantastic pics, thank you!
algonquin October 17th, 2005, 04:53 AM I couldn't see the pics, but I've been through Saskatchewan, and I remember remarking how 'unflat' it was. People who fly across the praries to avoid them are idiots. What a surreal, vast, subtle and yet majestic landscape Saskatchewan (and Alberta and Manitoba) is.
The other thing I remember is how abrubtly the trees stop when you cross the Manitoba/Ontario border. They just stop.
Victoria October 17th, 2005, 09:07 PM Very awesome pictures, thanks for sharing. :)

PS........fantastic pics, thank you!one problem is that most people (even Saskatchewan people) think that Saskatchewan is nothing but wheat fields, so they never bother to go more than 10 km away from their house, unless they're moving to Alberta
I think one thing that hurts the view of the province is that the Trans Canada Highway cuts through the most boring part of the province (The southern plains), so when people are driving through Saskatchewan, they assume it all looks like that
I wish more people would realise that Saskatchewan is actually mostly covered in lakes and forest, and yes, there are many valleys and hills
I wish more people knew how beautiful Saskatchewan is, and what a great place to live it is..
all we need is to the word out.. I can probably name the location of every one of those pictures!

I'm guessing not that many, mabye 1 out of 10 people. Really sad though... :sleepy:
TO_Joe October 22nd, 2005, 02:38 AM Thanks for the great pics!
Someday, I would like to drive across Canada at a more leisurely pace so that I could explore SK more.
I am aware that the prairies have a lot to offer but one's got to have time to get off the big highways -- certainly the Trans-Canada through Southern Manitoba and Southern Saskatchewan (except the last 100 km towards Alberta) are exceedingly flat and featureless and the Yellowhead from BC / Alberta ain't that much better. It gives great sky views though -- I remember watching dramatic thunderstorms rolling into outskirt Regina from the west.
The problem for me is just the time it takes to get there. It's 2000 km and more than 20 hours of continuous driving just to get out of Ontario, and that is a tough drive. Actually I was relieved to get to the flat 4-laned highways in Manitoba after a day of driving through the forested muskeg and winding hills from Thunder Bay.

hah yeah, I used to think the same way, I used to think that Regina Beach and the Qu'appelle Valley (http://www.virtualsk.com/current_issue/valley_of_legend.html) (about 20-30 min from Regina) were the nicest spots you could find in Saskatchewan, because thats as far as I had seen.. they are nice, but when I first saw northern and southern Sask for the first time I was blown away

Nate October 26th, 2005, 12:12 AM k19... you could have just editted the first of your picture posts to include all the pictures rather than post 1 or 2 pictures at a time, but have over 10 posts. ;)
reginaguy October 26th, 2005, 02:23 AM Its too bad there largest cities were built no where near these places. I think we'd all like to see more .That's a really good point, but think of it this way: placing large cities in the beautiful parts would only take the beauty out of those areas :)
and besides, I'm not sure about Saskatoon, because I havent been there in a while, but Regina is really close to a nice big valley and a few lakes. It almost seems like the people who chose the location for the city accidentally missed the nice lake, valley, and river only 25 km further north :p
http://img439.imageshack.us/img439/3519/reginavalley9nj.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Nate October 26th, 2005, 02:33 AM Saskatoon has Pike Lake nearby, but it isn't all that fantastic. However Saskatoon does have the river, and the bridges and the larger/older/more developed University, so that is partially why it has a larger population.
Saskatoon is called the prettier city, but now I actually think that both cities are quite nice looking. The Wascana park area really improved since the whole dredging and such, and the Meewasin Valley in Saskatoon was always beautiful :).
Filip November 1st, 2005, 04:47 AM It's really beautiful, ah Canada's so perfect:)
۩SkyScraper۩ November 1st, 2005, 07:32 AM ^^ i agree
canada cowboy November 2nd, 2005, 05:43 AM The pic of the sand dunes is the Great Sand Hills - I ordered the Sask Tourism info guide, and that exact picture was in it. I've driven through Sask a lot (between living in Wpg and Cgy), and always thought it is quite an amazing place...the prairies in general.
Cypress Hills in the SouthWest corner of the province is the highest point between the Rockies and Labrador (up to 1970ft)...some of the pics shown here are from that region (people standing on cliff).
Also - many think of the prairies as cold, but SW Sask has some of the best summers in the country...temperatures only second to Osoyoos, and less precipitation.
Another cool "feature" in Sask are the Nipekamew Sand Cliffs...kinda like the Hoodoos in AB. And Qu'appelle Valley (east of Regina) is simply beautiful - definitely worth the detour from Hwy 1.
flatlander December 16th, 2005, 01:34 AM My 2 cents ( maybe not worth that ) Born and raised in Regina hence (flatlander), Saskatchewan's bottom third is relatively flat and bare. THe northern 2/3 is fairly rolling hills, forest and lakes. Saskatchewan's mainly left of center politics and hence corporate economy chases many (including myself) young people away to more right of center provinces Albert'a growth is largely from Manitoba, Saskatchewan and New Foundland.
Regina's "highrise" development is largely government sponsored
SGIU now sgi
SASKTEL
SASK OIL- now Wascana
INSURANCE( i can't the remember the company bribed from Toronto)
EVEN THE TWINS have significant govt influence.
Many who travel west to Calgary are shocked at the cost of every thing but are surprised at tax savings. In Alberta rents are at least triple and you have to pay 1 month in deposit. You have to insure your vehicle on your own. You have to get health care insurance on your own. You cannot afford to earn minimum wage if you are supporting yourself. but... I pay more and more for my people that in Saskatchewan would be earning minimum wage. I cannot hire people there are too many competitors for laborers, therefore i have to up the ante and pay more - fact of life and business.
BTW the Drive from the Saskatchewan border to Calgary is the most boring desolate drive in Canada. The reward is getting to Calgary and then going 30 minutes more to the rockies.
Rob
furrycanuck December 16th, 2005, 03:56 AM It's illlegal to charge a month's rent for a damage deposit in Alberta.
We have provincial health insurance just like the rest of Canada, so what do you mean by "you have to get your health insurance on your own"?

How do are the twins government buildings? I believe the east tower is mostly offices, and the west tower is HSBC
Regina does have a lot of government buildings, because Saskatchewan has a lot of government corporations, but Regina's tallest buildings aren't government buildings, not even close. The SGI building is the only government building that even makes it on the list of the top 17 tallest building in Regina, and it's #5, here are the top 5 tallest buildings in Regina.
1) Delta Regina - 25 floors - Hotel
http://img475.imageshack.us/img475/8989/2166171gh.jpg
2) Roberts Plaza - 20 floors - Appartments
http://www.emporis.com/files/transfer/5/2003/09/216228.jpg
3 & 4) McCallum Hill Centre - both 20 floors - mostly non government Offices
http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/3853/2160197js.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
5) SGI building - Government & non-government offices
http://www.emporis.com/files/transfer/5/2003/09/216304.jpg
and then the list goes on another 12 buildings until another government building is reached
I'd also like to point out that the number of people living in downtown Regina has more than doubled since 2001, and we have the lowest office vacancy rate in Canada
And yes, the drive along the Transcanada in Saskatchewan is extremely dull, I already agreed with that earlier :( I wish they would have built the highway a bit further north and had it pass thru the valleys, that way people wouldnt be falling asleep at the wheel as much lol
flatlander December 20th, 2005, 10:45 PM It's illlegal to charge a month's rent for a damage deposit in Alberta.
We have provincial health insurance just like the rest of Canada, so what do you mean by "you have to get your health insurance on your own"?
What are you smokin
the residential tennancy act states that you cannot charge more than one months rent for a security deposit, I don't know of many land lords that don't, I sure do on mine.
Our provincial health care covers the bare minimums that are required by the quidelines layed out in the canada health act. Saskatchewan is much more generous on things covered, they also have a REAL health card not some bogus piece of paper for thier provincial health card. Gee I wonder why we have so many problems with illegal health cards?
They also tax the residents big time to pay for the health care.
My comment was to people planning on migrating here from sask, they need to be aware of the differences.
Ouuplas January 20th, 2006, 01:36 AM Great pictures! Most of those I wouldn't have guessed were in Saskatchewan.
steveowevo March 28th, 2006, 04:08 AM Saskatchwan is so beautiful... It's a shame that some people overlook it as a flat, borring landscape.

canada cowboy March 28th, 2006, 11:57 PM Awesome pics - and from some of the posts on here, it seems Sask is still not well-known to Canadians.
The Cypress Hills (where some of those photos come from) have the highest point in Canada between the Rockies and Labrador - so it should be no surprise that it isn't flat...It is also among the warmest regions in Canada.
The Big Muddy is also another hilly spot southwest of Regina, as is the beautiful Qu'appelle Valley.
Northern Sask is an amazing lakes area that easily rivals central/north Manitoba and western Ontario.
Its unfortunate that Sask and Manitoba don't have a lot of easy to find pictures though.
reginaguy April 9th, 2006, 01:52 AM It's been beautiful the last couple weeks, so I decided to get out and take some pictures.
Not the most beautiful pics, since this is early April and there's still a lack of green, but some of them turned out nicely

it makes me sad that Deer Valley is around the spot where Regina was originally supposed to be founded, instead some rich guy convinced the railway to build further upstream Wascana Creek, which is so much flatter :(
canada cowboy April 9th, 2006, 08:28 AM Reginaguy - nice pics, looks like nice homes too, how much do those go for?
I noticed Regina was hitting near 20c this past week, looks like beautiful weather!
As for Flatlander's comments - sorry you think its such a boring drive from the Sask border to Calgary...there is some extremely interesting scenery if you were to venture off the highway 1 (like south along the border for starters)...and the pictures posted on this thread attest to that.
reginaguy April 9th, 2006, 11:37 PM ^^ thanks! not too sure how much those specific houses go for. I did a quick search for homes in Deer Valley and found this 1825 sq ft. house (http://www.skhomes4sale.com/listingA-4572.htm) for 395,000. I'm guessing the average house price there is ~250,000
Housing prices in Regina have been rising steadily for the last while, but it's still pretty cheap compared to the rest of the country. I think the average price of housing in Regina is around $120,000-$130,000 now. You can get an upscale home in a new ares for less than $400,000
whitefordj April 19th, 2006, 11:51 AM There is a place called the blue cliffs in the south of maple creek that would blow your minds. you can see the black hills from there, and they are very close. no one ever sees this view because it is off limits. I did some work down there building a dam, and digging some water holes. One thing i should tell you all is there is a buffalo jump there that only I know about. the indian city that was there at one time was huge, as there is at least 500 teepee circles, and also, there is the bigest sun-dile i ever seen. There are stones pilled in the shape of people leading to the drop. It is at least 20 thousand years old the rocks are some of the oldest un totched ive ever seen and i picked alot of rock. the growth of green and red fungus, which takes thousands of years to acumulate on rocks, is the thickest ive ever seen. This place is where the glaciers ended and melted placing stones from far and wide, more on this later. The most spectacular part is the blue cliffs them selvs. they are pure white. the whitest white ever. they shine like a dimond and in the evining they glow blue. sparkling and all. Imagin a cliff 100-200ft high, stretching for as far as the eye can see, both east and west. Then to make it even more surreal, I found the largest meteor in the world there. it hangs over the edge of the blue cliffs and it has a smaller one that is next to it(Placed by the for-mentioned glacial melt). The smaller one is the size of a large car and the bigger one the size of a bulldozer. :eek2: I was driving one i can compare. at one end it is melted like a wax candle and they are pure iron of some kind, with rust and pits and perfectly round crystals of a sort ive never seen. The objects are so hard that i couldent take a sample, and even with my tools they wouldent scratch. I hit one with a hammer and it pinged for like 5 mins. There is also an eagles nest on the top of one white hoodoo, and it too is very old. it is still in use to this day. I tell you about this secret place because i want you to know ive been all over canada, and many parts of the usa and i have never seen a place that compares, or resembles it. The place looks like an alien landscape, I feel it is saskatchewans and Canada's best-kept secret. I plan to go there and take pictures. I have found it on google earth and can see it plainly as well. Maby its best left a secret, as if it where to be known then, then it would surly become a major tourist atracion. It is 50 kms from the nearest dirt rode and in comunity pasture. so its secrets could remain hidden forever. I will go take pics this summer, as the u of calgary, which is in charge of all such matters in western canada, gave me the ok to take a sample of the meteor. More on this in a month.
reginaguy April 20th, 2006, 01:26 AM ^^ can you show us where it is on Google Earth?

thanks, We didn't mind too much, it sucked, but we can still have fun without being drunk
but we probably could have drank if we wanted to. they werent even enforcing it at Echo, because there was hardly anyone there. The news said may long attendance was down 70%.
The only cop we ran into the whole trip gave us fishing advice and then left!

Rhino May 23rd, 2006, 08:41 PM nice shots , I wish I could have went to some of these places before leaving SASK>
CCF June 5th, 2006, 12:31 AM Saskatchewan is deffinetly the most stereotyped province in Canada.
Such a lovely province, so diverse in landscape. Home to over 100,000 bodies of water, sand dunes, rolling hills, forests, flatlands, valleys and the like.
Of course, neither Regina nor Saskatoon are situated in those prestine locations. However, that may be for the best as building would only ruin the natural beauty of these areas. And both cities turned out to be okay anyways.
I love Saskatchewan, and I don't plan to take permanent residence anywhere else.
whitefordj June 6th, 2006, 03:27 AM Unexpected...I'd say it almost looks downright strange! But interesting!

Katrina June 7th, 2006, 02:38 AM Amazing images! One of these days I'm going to have to visit.
vid June 7th, 2006, 11:15 PM Actually, Ontario does have Uranium. Why do you think Elliot Lake exists? Before being designated 'Arctic Florida' (a place where old people can go to die if they don't mine cold) it was one of the biggest uranium mines in the world. :)
What you meant to say was 'oil' ;) We don't have much, if any, of that.

Canada is the world's largest uranium producer. All of the country's production comes from Saskatchewan.

Fratelli d'Italia,
L'Italia s'è desta;
Dell'elmo di Scipio
S'è cinta la testa.
Dov'è la Vittoria?
Le porga la chioma;
Ché schiava di Roma
Iddio la creò.
Stringiamci a coorte!
Siam pronti alla morte;
Italia chiamò.

I think people also associate Sask as being mosquito invested like Man.

In general we are pretty flat in the south (except for Qu'appelle, and Cyprus Hills ), the north is more hilly, and rocky though. And this part is the part that is always overlooked... the hilly forested terrain.
And we are mosquito infested... big time.

Indeed. I don't think we are less mosquito-prone than Manitoba. It is just terrible here up north in summer--- our beautiful boreal forest does often create this sort of troubles for visitors.
I hate our mosquitoes, but I do love our heat and storms in summer. Even as a native of this region I do often perceive Saskatchewan and Manitoba as one very large region, which has many varieties of landscapes--- from tundra up north, boreal forest, aspen parklands, ranches, badlands, grain fields, northern rocky mounds, small lakes throughout the province, as well as some hilly forested fragments scatters throughout our south. Saskatchewan's nature is very complicated.
algonquin February 8th, 2007, 06:44 AM This is wierd. I just rediscovered this thread... I'm in Regina right now, and I'm also watching Corner Gas... the episode where they go to Regina for the Grey Cup. Neato!

ScraperDude February 14th, 2007, 07:59 PM Hey everyone I have to chime in SK. I live in the US and have been planning a trip to Melfort and Star City up in Northen SK. I have seen tons of pics of SK and it's absolutely beuatiful.
Someone wrote earlier about how people don't realize how SK is diverse in both landscape and eco-regions and I can totally agree with that. I learned about SK when I was growing up in Kentucky and it seemed like a wild place so I studied it for years (geography nerd).
I think some of the issues with SK not being know as a place other than stereotypes to people who don't live there is due to your tourism office.
I think I have seen one Saskatchewan commercial ever in the US.
I constantly see Ontario and BC and even Alberta on tv here.
Another issue is it's not exactly cheap to fly into Regina or Saskatoon at least for us in the US. Last year I thought I would plan a camping trip to Cypress Hills Park in SK and I looked at flights and I had to fly from Tulsa, OK to Denver, Co To Calgary to Medicine Hat almost $900 USD. and flying into Regina was almost $600. I don't mind connecting 4 times to get to a remote area but the price was the stopper.
All of you in SK are lucky to live in a beautiful land.
MasonsInquiries February 14th, 2007, 08:03 PM after seeing these pics, all i can say is WOW!!!!!

Hmm your flight path seems a little off to me. We don't have any planes flying in from Med. Hat, unless I read something wrong there.
Basically our airports in Regina and Saskatoon fly to Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Toronto, Minneapolis.
Couldn't you fly direct from Tulsa to Minneapolis and then to Regina, or perhaps through Toronto?
The amount of comments that I come across regarding Saskatchewan drives me insane. I would say 99% of the people who bash SK haven't even been here.
Anyways, hopefully you can make it up here some day soon.

The first flight plan is for a camping trip in Cypress Hills SK so the closest airport to that area is in Medicine Hat, AB. for my northern SK trip I will fly direct to Minneapolis and then into Saskatoon and drive to Melfort via PA.
I'm just saying it's expspensive for those of us in states further from SK to fly in.
I can relate to anyone in Saskatchewan about sterotypes people have about provinces/states in the middle of North America. Oklahoma is thought to be flat and treeless just like peopel think about SK but we have mountains deserts forests swamps and tons of lakes. Oklahoma as well does little about toruism commercials for TV and therefore people have images in their heads that they create.

Ohh okay, now the flight plan make sense. It could potentially be cheaper to fly into Regina and drive to the Cypress Hills region. Only a few hours away by car.

This is not a lake, it is flooding from all the rain! which was desperitely needed

This is a lake, it is Blain Lake 1-2 hours north of Saskatoon

Water flooded overtop of roads in some areas, truck going through a foot of water.

Fences were completely submerged on the side of the road, here you can see some fence posts just above the water.

That is a road underwater in the backround, almost unnoticable.

Danny D July 7th, 2007, 08:44 AM Was would be the key word... as now, "Canada is the world's largest uranium producer. All of the country's production comes from Saskatchewan." -reference (http://www.cameco.com/uranium_101/uranium_sask/production.php)
Canada is the world's largest uranium producer. All of the country's production comes from Saskatchewan.
:tongue2: :D
And we have Potash! 2/3rd of the world supply is in Saskatchewan. With this little tidbit of information we will rule the world!
Apparently uranium levels in Northern Ontario are very high. I cant remember the source but we have some problems in some areas with radiation...
vid July 7th, 2007, 12:15 PM Elliot Lake was a uranium mine before they shipped all the old people there.

I love this one....McCallum Hill Centre towers would look pretty cool if they were stacked on top of eachother.

WinnipegPatriot July 9th, 2007, 02:46 PM OK, um...what I meant, LOL, was eliminate one, and increase the height on the other one to 45 storeys...
vid July 9th, 2007, 08:25 PM That would make the skyline lopsided. Why does it have to be so tall anyway? It's city of 200,000 people.
Nate July 10th, 2007, 01:45 AM The soil in Regina doesn't really allow for really tall buildings... It can probably be done with A LOT of prep work, but in the end, it's not worth it... There are always issues with the foundations of houses and the roads because of the type of clay-soil we have. It tends to shift around quite a bit.
I happen to think the twins make the skyline look really nice. It gives a more even appeal like Vid said, and it also give a prominent feature to the skyline, the "V". There's rumours here and there about a new office building going up in the near-ish future as well... All I've heard is speculation though, so there's a big chance that it is just that.
WinnipegPatriot July 10th, 2007, 04:10 AM The design of the twins would make a better looking single tower at 40+ stories. It wouldn't look so great without smaller buildings anchoring it....A taller version of that reminds me of this tower in Dallas....

CCF July 11th, 2007, 04:54 AM The buildings were built at different times though.
vid July 11th, 2007, 02:02 PM You know, I've never liked Fountain Place. I actually find a lot of Pei's work rather cheap looking and unattractive. (With several exceptions, of course.)
A smaller version of that might work in Regina, but like CCF said, they were built at different times.

No offence, but I would give credence to your opinion if you had some form of artistic background or career. Since you have neither, your taste is...well, anyway....
I know the towers were built at different times; that is irrelevant.
It is a sculpture...but only the uncultured would fail to see that :)
