The world largest sleeping Buddha could actually be in the Bamian Valley in Afghanistan. The Taliban destroyed the 2 standing statues but apparently there is one sleeping Buddha that had lied hidden in the area. Archeologists are now working to find this 300 m long sleeping statue. The latest I heard was that the projects which have funding from the French government and the National Geographic Society and the full support from the Hamid Karzai government have made a lot of progress and had found what could be classified as a giant foot.

Let's hope they are successful with their quest. This will at least put the area back as a World Heritage Site and that the Afghan people will enjoy all the benefits from tourism in the valley.

Maitreya Asri Temple

The majestic Buddhist Temple in Medan city, located inside the complex of most prestigious real estate in Medan so far, Cemara Asri. No less than 10 years old, this huge temple is always visited by devoted Buddha followers. But to less surprise, this gorgeous temple is also visited by other people (especially Medan citizen) just to enjoy the architecture and religious ambiance, and the officials here will happily guide them to introduce all about Buddha and the temple.

Chinese New Year celebration is the staple of the so-many Maitreya Asri's yearly activities. At some events like conference and exhibitions, many visitors coming from Buddha-dominated country like Thailand, Sri Lanka, Laos, China, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Singapore.
