It takes 8 hours to walk inside the entire mall

There's a roller coaster inside, I-Max cinemas, etc.

Capacity: 500,000 people

The central platform can rise to the roof (like the parliament in Star Wars :D)

Turks love to hang flags on new built buildings such as malls, stadiums, schools, hospitals etc.. In former times it was just the turkish flag now they hang both.

So this is the one in Sisli, right? Yes I like this one. Any numbers and facts?

BTW, up to now, as far as I know, the biggest two were the West Edmonton Mall (http://www.westedmall.com/home/default.asp) in Canada (#1) and the Mall of America (http://www.mallofamerica.com/) in Bloomington, Minessota, USA (#2).

Now if this became the world's #2 congratulations and I hope I will be back to Istanblue soon... (If only the Diamond tops out till then... :))

At last it opened. Everything is fine but I agree with John regarding the EU flags. What an unnecessary thing to do. It's a Turkish capitalized, Turkish named mall in a Turkish city. So wtf an entertaining centre has to do with a political union.

That looks quite big indeed

btw, why there are EU flags hanged on the mall building? :|

It looks ordinary to be honest and you should really remove those flags and only hang them back up when u join the EU!

This mall (interior) reminds me of the malls that I've seen in certain parts of the U.S. especially in the upper mid west and north western regions. It looks very nice though!

Cherry it is interesting that you point that out because the interior of that mall looks very similar to many malls we have here in Toronto. Actually, I do not like when countries outside North America adopt that "generic mall" look. I'd rather see things built in each country's unique architectural style and themes. Other than that, the mall looks good.

looks fun - i live next to the biggest (I think) mall in the world - Mall of America, and the istanbul mall certainly looks nicer :)

The mall was designed by Minoru Yamasaki (architect of WTC in NY) in the 1980s, but it took so long to build (construction works were stopped for many years) that the design looks a bit outdated today.

An alternative design by Yamasaki also included skyscrapers, but it was not selected due to the anti-skyscraper mood in Istanbul back in those years (i.e. the public hatred for Suzer Plaza Ritz-Carlton rising like a dick on the Bosphorus)

Well, look at this: An anti-skyscraper public sentiment in Istanbul... I mean, this city was characterised by many travellers as "the Manhattan of the Minarets" in 1915 by National Geographic's writers due to the spectacle of its minarets by the sea back at the time... Tallness was ever present in Istanblue guys, so whatever the reactions, these were only futile attempts to avoid the inevitable...

I must say I would prefer the towers around the present design. On the other hand, if you click here (http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/5365/unbenannt0qg.jpg) to see the satellite picture provided by www.sercan.de, you will see that the Sisli highrise complex and the mall are connected by a pedestrianised corridor, making it a unified area. Not bad al all...

Also @ Asim: Nice complex overall, and the colours inside are also nice, as for the elevating podium, well, the ones in "Star Wars" at the parliament of the democracy Coruscant are moving with anti-gravity. In terms of scientific progress we may be several decades behind this but Istanbul threw the idea on the floor and that's a start...

And guys, try photobucket for your linked pics, this is where I plan to switch tofor mine too...

PS. Although I like Ritz-Carlton, I mean, look here (http://www.emporis.com/en/il/im/?id=157370) to see why this analogy with the particular male part is justified as depicted in yet another beautiful picture taken by Kerem a.k.a."Wheels on fire".

BTW, does Kerem still ride a bike?

The towers could easily be in Dallas or Houston or something. If it wasn't for Istanblue, I could easily be tempted to believe that this is a north American project.

Kerem stopped riding his chopper after getting married I suppose :D

And yes, a corridor connects the complex with Sisli's towers - I wish Yamasaki's towers could also be added to them :(

Oh well...

BTW, I was surprised to find that the two biggest malls are now in China with retail space exceeding 500,000 square metres.

According to the following link, looks like Chine has taken over although Istanblue still has the lead in European malls, still coming second to the Edmonton mall as far as the western world is concerned.

However, chech this page. The Chinese are unbelievable...

Oh how did I missed this thread!? And I can't believe this proposal either. Can you believe they rejected it and then, the munipacility of Sisli constructed a 200m tower just next to the mall? And the other smaller Tatlici Towers, Sisli Elite Residence Tower and so.. Unbelievable.. :ohno:
