Düsseldorf has some very pretty highrises and Germanys most beautiful TV Tower. But there are just some tall highrises and they are not clustered, so it gets a 6.5 from me!

The population is 570.000.

Not many people have heard of it, and the problem there is because it's part of an agglomeration of several equally dominant cities that make up the Rhein Rhur metropolitan area. This metro area covers a similar area to Sydney's Statistical Division but with 12million people in it.

Düsseldorf city proper has approx 570,000 people. Other city proper's in the Rhein Ruhr are Essen - 630,000, Dortmund - 590,000, Duisburg - 535,000, Köln - 930,000 etc etc. They are join together to form the Rhein Ruhr metro.

This is a bit like if Sydney never had a single dominent core, but all the other cities in the metro were equally important such as Parramatta, Chatswood, Ryde, Penrith etc and to please everyone they gave the whole metro a seperate name like "Cumberland Basin metro" or something that meant nothing to the outside world.

Düsseldorf is part of one of the largest metropolitan area's in the world, and pretty much unheard of.

Their loss I suppose.

As for the photo's of the city, they are nice but the skyline is quite average. Düsseldoft does have some lovely riverfrontage on the mighty Rhein.

I was there last year in November to meet queen lizzie and prince philip. I really liked the city. mind the huge bus, police escorts and VIP parties were nice too:D

I gotta say i give it maybe a 6 for height but when you look over the city from the top of stadttor you see the architecture is really nice. I especially like the small but strange buildings I saw with the grass on, and that one that looks like its covered in tinfoil.

A 7.5 overall :)

hard to say, it's my homecity now and i really enjoy living here. but the skyline is not perfect;) 7/10 (i know it's too high, but who cares;))

Düsseldorf has some really nice skyscraper projects under construction and as the city
is completely debtless and the economy is booming hard, awesome skyscraper projects will follow.

8/10. Düsseldorf is a nice place to walk around, to shop and to visit the Rheinturm. And .... it`s not so far away from here.

i've lived before in Dusseldorf, one of the greatest city in western europe.

I loved the time I spent in Dusseldorf. There's so much more to the city than what these pictures show. As for the skyline itself, by European standards I think it's pretty good. I give it a 7/10, because even though it isn't very tall, there's a lot of cool buildings.

Needs more highrises and also some true skyscrapers. Duesseldorf has fallen behind a little the last decade. Hope it will catch up again.

What I like is the renovated airport. Probably the second best in Germany after Munich.

I agree with you generally. But Düsseldorf is among the german cities with most highrises under construction, none of those can really be considered a 'skyscraper' though..

Don't really consider airrail centre as part of the aiport. Its more an office building nearby. For travellers its really irrelevant. More important is the ongoing renovation of Terminal 1 which has cost billions so far. Lots of improvments but its still an old terminal and you see it. T2 and future T3 are nice though.

But for some reason I really like the atmosphere of Duesseldorf airport. A shame it burned down back in 1996 and couldn't profit from the aviation boom. It was always germanies second airport. Now its Munich.

Actually, in terms of skyscrapers, the skyline sucks (as in any Ruhr city,maybe except Essen). But I have many other reasons to like Düsseldorf!:)

Looking on pictures from Düsseldorf I don`t see anything tight, that looks like a town no old center. Very strange order of buildings and house rows. The harbor looks very suspect, cold and not very confortable for staying or living, however it has some interesting buildings there. The Rhein is too broad in this area, that you don`t have a feeling that the river is included or touch in the city, prefere more the interaction of Rhein and a town like given in Basel for example.
All in all, I don`t know if I would feel myself pleasant there, there are much nicer German towns than Düsseldorf is my feeling.

If you have that feeling, feel free to blame me. Obviously I posted the wrong pictures :)

Not very impressive and no density 5/10

well i dont know, düsseldorf has now spectacular "skyscrapers" but its a good mix of the rhine, old town, modern buildings and the bridge + TV Tower. It looks awesome 10/10!

Undoubtedly a beautiful city, but as far as skyline goes, I don't see how anyone is giving it an 8,9, or 10. This is pushing a 7. I'll give it 6.5
